Twinkling Watermelon is absolutely the best drama of the year for me.

Main Actors—Ryeo Un (Secret Romantic Guesthouse) and Choi Hyun-Wook (Twenty five Twenty One, Weak Hero Class 1)

Twinkling Watermelon Youth Music Life Romance is a great concept drama.

A hearing little boy has deaf parents and a deaf older brother. He speaks to them through sign language. When they move to another neighborhood, the boy begins to be mentored in music by a music shop owner. The boy is uniquely aware of sounds, living in his family’s deaf world and he uses his hands to communicate. The shop owner chooses to teach him the guitar. This is a perfect match, because the boy must use his hands with the guitar to speak the language of music, the same as using his hands to communicate with his family. The shop owner discovers that the little boy is a musical genius. You get these rare finds of a drama which concentrates on a unique story. Twinkling Watermelon is a concept drama about Youth, Music, Life, and Romance. This is a youth driven music drama, but it will appeal to all ages. I am totally impressed. It is a high Yes to add this drama to your drama list.

There is a huge plot redirection in the drama, Twinkling Watermelon. I am totally surprised that no one has blabbed and let the secret out. The redirection knocked me for a loop. I will have to write up a spoiler later on. This can’t stay a secret long. I am watching real-time. For bingers, I would suggest to start this drama ‘Twinkling Watermelon’ and view the 5 episodes posted already, then you can binge episodes 6-16 later. It appears that no one was given advance notice, by what I have read so far. However, some want to be the first to tell the secret. With 5 episodes posted, many won’t keep the secret long. In addition, so many others do not understand what a spoiler is. Twinkling Watermelon may tap out to be one of the best Music Life Romance Korean Dramas ever.

The boy is a coda. That means that he is the only one in the family who can hear and speak.

Quote: Music is the only legal drug.

Sign hung in the father’s restaurant: No need for words.

Cast

Choi Hyun Wook—This role is in his wheelhouse, playing a creative dare devil who falls for the rich chick. He is so good in this drama. He overwhelms his scenes. Many have touted the acting talent of Choi Hyun Wook and I am one of them. He will not disappoint you.
Ryeo Un—He gives a breakout performance, which many will be talking about.
Seol In A—She is a veteran talented Actress and once again gives a great performance.
Shin Eun-Soo—This actress is a newcomer and she is a little shinning star. Shin Eun-Soo is given a difficult role, which I will not spoil.

Is it acceptable to use the word ‘Deaf’? Yes, most of the Deaf community do not shy away from this word.

Cute enough!

I am not a fan of most of the stories coming from MAME novels, so I started watching with very low expectations, but in the end I can say that I had fun.

The story is very simple and very predictable, so the main charming point of the series is all about Nuea, Lom, and their constant pull toward each other. Seeing Lom getting more and more bold with his flirting and Nuea trying not to fall harder and harder for him was fun. The story also keeps a steady and rather fast pace, which helped me a lot with not getting frustrated or bored while watching.
The actors all did a good job with what they had. My biggest annoyance were the character monologues, which is something that I can't stand: I'd rather have the characters show me their true feelings naturally through actions and expressions rather than have them recite it out loud like a school assignment.
The couples are cute. They're not hyper romantic and memorable couples, but they have good chemistry and their moments together are really cute.

I don't have anything especially bad to say about this series, I just didn't find it to be anything other than reasonably entertaining. I can recommend it to you if you have some spare time for a shorter series!

A random beautiful fate of mistaken arranged marriages!!!

What I liked about this drama was the simplicity of the story. The flow of how it was shown was never unfussy and clearly brought me to what I was expecting it to be. Much to my enjoyment, it was very light and contained minimal dramatic scenes. The characters of the five couples were sensibly built as to the role they were playing, noting as well the pleasant screen chemistry of all. It was amusing to watch these five couples supporting each other to protect their relationship, family, and friends.

I commend the creator for her candid style of writing. First, in those scenes where the main lead couple (Tian Xi Wei & Ao Rui Peng) always beat the wicked schemes of the adopted grandson in the Qi’s residence, unlike in other shows, the protagonist was inclined to be fooled by the villain and it was so frustrating to watch. Second, in the revelation parts of the switch identities of the brides that were not taken against them and swiftly gained acceptance from the involved parties. Third, the process of exposing and capturing the villain’s characters was done in a rightful end. And finally, it was a nice sight choice to include an interesting prank scene in the final episode that came as a surprise. The whole story ended where it began where the mishap of swapping happened and manifested their faith and gratefulness by going back to the temple.

I considered this drama as “less but more” in the aspect of being simple but substantially full in storytelling. It was a comfort watch, adding to the fact that Tian Xi Wei is one of my favorites.

MAME ugh

Thanks to MAME, I'm now defaulting to looking for red flags in all Thai BL. She's managed to make me so paranoid that I can only call what I am right now traumatized. Congrats MAME, for ruining me for life. Not in a good way.

Fair warning - if you liked this show, then stop reading this review right now and click away. If you haven't watched this show, and have issues with dub/non-con, then watch at your own risk.

(If you have watched it and feel the way I do, thank god because I'm feeling very lonely with what seems to be my very unpopular opinion.)

tl;dr: MAME = Trigger Warning.

It's probably established by now that MAME has a thing for romanticizing toxicity. Enough that people are willing to overlook the messed-up-ness of her main couples that almost always start off on the wrong foot, and yet somehow has (most?) people watching it calling it cute/sexy and eating it up like it's so romantic. But if you look at her track record, you probably wouldn't find a single non-toxic pairing. Not even AePete despite how wholesome it started off as. And don't get me started about the clusterfuvk that's KengklaTechno or TharnType or LeoFiat, ugh. (She just freaking loooooves manipulative/controlling/possessive semes, istg)

I thought LITA would be different because it's rated much higher, but obviously, I should start seeing MAME as a TW before picking a series up. Seriously, how TF is it romantic to use multiple phones to stalk someone when they block you? If someone did that to me irl I would want to get a restraining order. And the whole spanking thing - it made me so freaking uncomfortable when it happened - it's definitely non-consensual and not sexy in any way. They know each other for like a few days and Rain is clearly uncomfortable with it. And from beginning to end, Phayu is so creepily manipulative and controlling, and I don't understand why I'm in the minority in finding their relationship extremely uncomfortable. It's like they're in a D/S relationship, except Rain isn't even aware of it, so there's no question of consent at all.

But the worst thing is everything is shown in such a rose-tinted way that it seems either comedic or romantic. I don't mind watching a fucked up relationship, as long as it's written well enough that you know it's fucked up. (VegasPete obviously did that very well. You know while watching that it's wrong and at no point do you watch it with hearts in your eyes. Morbid fascination, definitely - Lima/Stockholm done well.)

Also, her obsession with giving her uke characters abusive (sexual/physical/mental) pasts. Please MAME, that's not the only way to create angst. I mean, it's not completely a wrong way, as long as you, again, do it well - and deal with it well, instead of just using it as a reason to develop the relationship as opposed to a way of giving a character depth by healing past trauma and moving forward in life. Which is never done. Not with Type, not with Fiat, and definitely not with Sky. Love doesn't magically heal trauma for god's sake. Somehow MAME just manages to send all the wrong messages with her stories, and for those people who would say that it's all okay because it's "only fiction", well, it means her message managed to get across for you, congratulations.

If I could go back in time and make sure I never watched a MAME series again, I would do it in a heartbeat. I just keep making the mistake of not checking who the writer is before starting, so I suppose it's all my fault. I wish all of her works came with trigger warnings in the blurb so that I could have avoided them - but it's far too late now, so at least from now on I'm going to make sure to check who the writer is so that I never have to watch something written by MAME ever again.

Let the BL pink love fills you up!

The ending is amazing, especially the last 2 episodes!

Ep 9 is absolutely hilarious. A real life comedy of "Reality vs Expectation" lol. Ep 10 is so sweet, especially the ending scene, so touching and the visual of Yanase, I died! lol

I really love the part where Yanase wrote down a list and it got checked. Its just so swet!

The show started out really great and started to flatten a bit, but the last 2 episodes saved it! If not, for that "flat period" in middle, it would have been 10/10!

No major plot. Simple story of 2 ML falling in love.

I really love it, it's not toxic, it's cute, its funny, its healthy and its just heartwarming,

Its a lighthearted comedy romance for those who needs a break after watching a heavy show, if u know what I mean

A show where you no need to think but just stare and let the visuals and the BL pink love fills you up.

This is the kind of show for it. It's actually way better than I thought. I'm glad I wactehd it!

it was so interested!

I really like this series. It is amazing! From the beggining I knew that Laws of attraction will be my next favourite bl series. At first lawyer Charn annoyed me with his psychopath look and smile, and the fact that he was on the wrong side - he wanted money, power and defends the culprit.
Than`s father was awful, he hated his own child. At first I didnt like Tan, but deep down I knew that he is innocent. Thanks to Thee, he became a better person, and their love was pure from the beggining. When his father went to jail, Tan still felt sorry for him...
My favourite character is Tinn, of course. He is good person, who seek justice for his niece; he was brave enough to fight such a battle with all the bad people. He saw Charn`s good side, even though Charn acted like a idiot.
This series captivated me from the beggining and till the end. It was so interesting, intense, i like series which include crimes and bl moments. To be honest, I wanted more romantic stuff, but I`m glad that Charn and Tinn had a happy ending. It is all that matter. Of course, Laws of attraction deserve 10 stars, so I gave it a total 10!

Indiana Jones has a love child with Laura Croft in the 5th dimension

By rights this show should be a hit because the leads are superb actors and who doesn’t like an adventure romp.

They have oodles of charisma, and their chemistry will keep a house warm in the dead of winter. There is a catch though. The world building in the first half of the show is problematic.

It leads us into a fantastic parallel world, but it also left us with more questions than answers. On the surface, the parallel world is unique and interesting, but it is like the shifting sand our leads travel through. It is an unstable base to build a civilisation if you don’t create some solid foundations. There are plot holes and inconsistencies galore. It was okay in small doses but as the plot deepens, it begs more questions. The show ploughs on regardless. It is not until ep.20 when we finally get a long winded exposition on how the world came about but even then, it was more a history lesson than any practical information.

Here lies the fundamental problem with this show. To sustain the fantastic setting the writer used every trick in the book. It is closer to a xianxia drama with cars than a contemporary adventure a la Tomb Raiders. This means all kinds of magical macguffins and invented lore are used to sustain the narrative.

This is a double-edged sword. It allows access to all kinds of wondrous situations, but you can tie yourself in knots if you don't have a deft hand. The protagonist needs a flying horse to get out of a tight spot? There is one grazing right there! The antagonist needs an evil doppelganger? There's one in the bag. Sometimes it can feels like cheating.

It is no surprise that the plot gets more and more convoluted as the show progressed. Is it class struggle, power play, love triangle or historical feud? It is raining revelations, expositions and flashbacks in the second half. Some are true, others are red herrings and false memories. We don't have a clear picture until the last few episodes.

End do cometh to us all. As ending goes, it is serviceable, but it feels flat. The resolution doesn’t make a lot of concrete sense. Yes, one side won but how this can leads to eternal peace is more than a bit vague. It is too facile. We are then told the whole show is just a richly embellished fable even though the characters are driving modern cars and using cellphones. Also hinting that the HEA ending is just our wishful thinking. Nice. Did the writer just gave up?

Nevertheless, kudos to the production team and ensemble actors for their dedication as shooting on location must have been a real challenge. The desert landscape is harsh but starkly beautiful. Who needs CGI when nature provide something that eclipse our imaginations.

In the end, it is a rollicking escapist romp. It is action packed, cheesy, tense and swoon worthy but it also has a lot of world building issues and plot holes. I would have stayed for the leads alone but it does test my patience at times. You really need to switch off your frontal lobe to truly enjoy this show. Beers and pizzas help too. Peace out.

This Was Not BL..

First the positive. I liked the actors well most of them. But this story left the BL reservation when they turned in to a woman scorned story. Namning created a relationship with Ram in her mind. She felt entitled to seek revenge against Ram's boyfriend LukChub. This then became all about Namning and her revenge. Revenge She didn't deserve to take.
Ram in all his promises to protect the fragile LukChub he allowed Namning to go free which allowed her to strike LukChub again which also cause hurt for Ram himself.
Plus there was very little affection between the couples. A true disappointment. But I loved the actor playing LukChub I'm all his innocence. But not a BL this is a tale of a woman scorned.

... boring

the first two episodes were good. this drama, as many, is full of cliches but it seemed nevertheless enjoyable. the male protagonist is the "cool cold hearted business guy" but he drops the act right at the end of the second episode. by the third one he was already in love. his behaviors are shown to be "romantic" but If you take away the romantic music, they appear to be controlling and frankly "stalking" like.
the main protagonist was endearing.
the should have explored more the "business side" of the deal, but as I said, they were already in love after 3 episodes. a missed opportunity.
as many Korean drama they drag it a bit too long and put a lot of plot "twist" at the very end.
overall it is an enjoyable Rom com but nothing to write home about.

Started from the bottom and we soar to the skies

This is what you call a blessing in disguise. Cause the first episode was not good at all but I am glad I stuck around. Cause it kept getting better and better. The plot was simple but well executed and cute. Both the characters were really likeable. Phumjai in the first episode was really annoying than cute but after the first episode he became so cute. Yang too was so cool and cute and expressed falling in love with his eyes. The other characters were not done so well but it was expected since there were too many and it had only few episodes with small run time but it still did quite well. The chemistry between the characters is not a joke. The actors did very well. The thirsty scenes as well as the cute scenes were done very well. I am so amazed and satisfied. A very enjoyable sweet and simple drama. Give it a try at least after the first episode. You won't regret it .

Heartwarming ride with no angast or draggy plot

So, From the title, it may look like a food blog, but this dorama was much more than that. It was so heartwarming and beautiful, especially the ending. The setting is in the 50s, where Japan is still under US rule and has a male-dominant society. It follows a female protagonist who paves her way through all the odds. The whole plot may seem obvious, but they represent it beautifully. On top of that, both characters were understanding and supportive. The show also features a beautiful aesthetic scenery of 50s Japan. I mean, that's all I needed. The manga is still ongoing, so I really wish we could have more seasons, but I wouldn't mind if it ended like this either. Being short also helped as there wasn't much dragging in the plot, and it got straight to business. This was such a good watch that I highly recommend.

emotions

I have to disagree with the reviewer who said that this drama has no content, for me this is about relationships, emotions and reslution, how even when you love someone timeings can be off, or the one you love is not in the same place as you.
I think that within the time frame given in four episodes this was done very well, perhaps because of my age and experiences of life and love I can only go on my own experiences.
For me the acting was very good and the scenery was beautiful, it makes me want to visit Jeju Island.

I loved it

I discovered the series by chance and I was so excited that I finished watching it in a few days. I love series with older versus younger ones. And the couple was so cute to melt away. I think, I will rewatch it in a few month.
The music at the beginning and ending of an episode was very beautiful.
The actors fit together very well. I found the "uncle" really funny. I also had to laugh in other scenes.

I will look for other series with these two actors in the future and also watch them.
Is there anyone here in the forum who knows other series with older and younger lead actors?
