Not giving away the setting of the story too much, one of my favorite things was that the actual storyline is set somewhere in the 80s/90s, so the actual vibe felt very real. I think I enjoyed the chemistry and the growing relationship of the 2 main characters. The romance was super natural and made me chuckle at least 10 times during the whole film. Also, the actors were gorgeous to say the least.
Without much rambling, everything about this movie is splendid and enjoyable. If you are a sucker for lighthearted love stories, you'll definitely want to watched this movie. It's worth watching and I know that I'll be rewatching ir some time soon. Oh, you'll thank me later for this recommendation! <3

"Chain letters can never bring good luck. But on that night, I found my luck"
for a first watch, this somehow felt nostalgic. similar to many love stories out there, this was yet another bittersweet high school romance with unspoken words from both sides. this movie truly brings you back to a feeling of "i could've"; that moment you could've brought about a different outcome to the situation.what i personally love from this movie is how both characters were helping each other grow. i found the bond between the leads so charming with how they would go out of their way to stand up for each other. there was one scene in particular that stood out to me in which hsu tai yu was being mistreated by the principal. lin truly summoning her fearlessness and speaking out for hsu tai yu TRULY did it for me.
the movie was self-aware that being a grown up person isn't a one way ticket to living a life that you like. even though it frustrated me to see the tension between the leads on not confessing their feelings, it was in a way realistic as complex ideas like romantic relationship is quite a scary path to go for a young age.
overall, this movie TRULY (pun not intended) fueled my cravings for all the yearning and angst with a nice side of cute desserts.

TOTALLY RECOMMENDED FOR ALL OF YOU IF YOU NEED A SUPER SWEET (but not cringey) MOVIE TO WATCH! ;)
What can I say except AMAZING?! You’ll definitely smile, laugh and cry watching this movie, so prepare tissues you guys! Our Times would be my very first full-length romance movie I’ve ever watch my whole entire life and I love every second of it! I wasn’t actually the type to love something lovey-dovey or super fluffy because it can sometimes cringe me out, so I prefer not to watch it. Same goes for this movie, I was told that this movie was SUPERB, but I kept preventing myself to watch it, until today, after all the exhausting hours of school, I decided to watch it.Darren Wang is super dreaaamy in this movie, ugh, I can’t even stand watching all those sweet scenes without squeaking like a little girl! <3 The acting was very excellent. What made me love this movie even more, is the level of relatable-ness to myself. Since I am a high school student myself, I can mostly relate to Lin Truly who’s insecure about herself, a hardcore fangirl, and also someone who can’t manage to confess her true hidden feelings for her crush.
Overall, a 100/10 for me. A truly-super-recommended movie for all of you who needs some little fluffiness during this boring quarantine season and also a dizzying school days! ❤️

If you've ever seen the Thai movie, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, and you enjoyed it, you will absolutely enjoy this movie. (If you haven't seen Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Get On That!!!) Crazy Little Thing Called Love had a bit of an indie film feel to me, which Our Times doesn't, and both movies are slightly different in theme (although mostly due to having male leads with very different personalities), but the feelings they manage to express are very much universal and keenly felt in both stories. They manage to capture much of what it's like to be young and insecure and confused and hopeful and in love. This isn't a joint review of Crazy Little Thing and Our Times though, so let me talk about what you're actually here for.
Our Times is a ten-star movie. Wonderful acting, wonderful story-telling, wonderful heart, wonderful soul, wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. (Not to mention Wang Darren is very good looking and cheeky and has a smirk for days, and I now want to watch as many of his movies and TV shows and bath soap commercials as I can. Hell, sell me dishtowels! I use paper plates almost exclusively, but by golly, if he sells it to me, I will find a use for it!)
I don't really know what else to say other than this movie just ticked all my boxes.
I do have to bring back the joint review for just a second though to say that while I didn't like the teen actors in Crazy Little Thing playing their characters as adults at all and felt like it took me out of the movie at a crucial moment, I strangely had the entirely opposite feeling with Our Times. I found myself alternating between wishing that the actors who played the leads as teens had played them as adults as well or wishing they had resolved the story while they were still teens and never shown them all grown up. I was just so Attached to their teen selves, their personalities, their mannerisms, their facial expressions. They were so affecting in their performances that I felt like I was being dragged out of the story while watching the adults. The adults were also on screen for so little that it almost seemed pointless for them to even be there. I'm not saying this makes it bad a movie, or it will keep you from enjoying it. I think most people probably wouldn't have any issues with it. I'm just saying I was way too invested in these teens to want to be away from them, and this is why I've given the story a 9.0 instead of a ten.

As Lin chases the popular guy of her school, fate brings her to Tsu, the "bad gangster" of the movie. The first thing that really caught my eye was how the whole story connected between the lines as the plot progressed. Lin is nothing special in her eyes, but to Tsu, she's the girl he'd thought he'd never want to be with. As they both chase the popular kids, they also find themselves forming a bong between each other. It does hit some heartbreak worthy notes, especially as the story wraps up, but I think it really paints this beautiful picture of unexpected love. They both started out fighting for their crushes without realizing how much they got to know each other throughout. It's a romance that you see a thousand times in movies, but this one is just special. It's not every movie where you feel the emotions (at least for me) you feel while watching this one. Although it has its cliches, there's also a subtle touch that makes it different.
I loved the cast of this drama, mainly the "younger" versions as they're portrayed more than the older ones. I do think the choice to use two sets of actors for the same characters worked out in terms of realistic aging. I also enjoyed how each actor executed the role, especially the main leads. Their acting was pretty good in my opinion, but then again, I'm no professional in terms of criticism. I just enjoyed their acting.
The music, as always, is good. It's not the worst songs I've heard but nothing worthy of adding to my music library. This is just me though and my music tastes.
Would I watch this cheesy movie again? Over and over. It's too beautiful to watch once in my opinion, and properly portrays the feeling of love in a new way. A love that lasts years.
I wouldn't force you to watch this movie but I highly suggest it for the romance movie goers. It's simple, sweet, and surpasses any expectations I had going into it.

Movie equivalent of comfort food
This show is nostalgically soothing with a high-sentimentality quotient. Set in the 90s, it serves as a perfect time capsule for that decade. The fashion, food, music, and everything else are showcased perfectly and meticulously. Personally, it takes me back in time on two fronts - my high school experience and my first love.Sure, the show is not perfect, but it is good comfort viewing that hits much more than it misses. The characters are likable and simple, the plot dynamics easy to follow, and the laughs are just what one needs sometimes. The central romance is so pure and sincere, with a bit of teen angst that everyone can relate to. Vivian Sung and Darren Wang are so sweet together, and their acting as teenagers going through the emotional roller coaster of first love is on-point. Plus, I love that Andy Lau is featured so prominently. With a sweet ending, the show is unfailingly heart-warming. Also, the music has exactly the right tone and emotion for the scenes.
The only thing I don't understand is why the show has to use different actors for the adult version of Truly and Taiyu. I like Joe Chen and Jerry Yan, but the ending would have been more poignant if Vivian and Darren continue playing as their adult versions.
I would re-watch this show. It is deserving of its high rating and it serves well as a distraction from the anxiety of real life.

This is such a beautiful and cute movie, I have watched this like 6 times and never get bored about this story even it´s basically some cliches that were all put together. It´s at the same time lovely, funny, and tear jearking. And I totally love this kind of movies that make me feel so many things. The main actors really suit each other and their relationships is constructed in a natural way so you can get excited about their growing relationship.
Concerning to the music I discovered this movie because of Hebe Tian´s song and it´s a great song
Totally a must watch

- the story is so effortless! It flows so well. I think the characters all have such great on screen chemistry and they play their parts so well that even though it's a movie, I really felt that each character really grew into the roles so well.
- I love the different story arcs and the way each of them fit together
- its so cute, yet thought provoking, yet lovable, yet tears inducing, but also laugh out loud funny. This movie has everything!!!!
- THE SOUNDTRACK IS JUST <3
No dislikes. JUST WATCH. and then WATCH AGAIN <3 and then listen to the sound track on repeat multiple times even though you can't really sing the high notes, you try anyways.

Makes you reminisce without reducing the throwback time frame to simply trope.
The acting is excellent. The characters are silly without being annoying. It reminded me of my own secondary school experience. I rooted for the OTP with all my heart during this movie. I laughed and I cried. Darren Wang and Vivian Sung are absolutely perfect as Hsu Taiyu and Lin Truly. Plus, they have incredible chemistry.
You will find some drama cliches in here... There's some noble idiocy, there's some "girl falls for bad boy instead of the good boy she had liked before," and "boy saves girl's life." But it is presented with an unexpected freshness together with wonderful acting(and directing) which makes the events seem to be happening to real people. Their world somehow seems real.
Thoroughly enjoyed this movie.
I am giving it an 8.5, however, because I felt that the ending was not quite as satisfying as this story deserved.
