I'm not going to lie; this movie had me so excited and then I was let down. If you have never read the manga or seen the anime then you might still enjoy this, but be warned it left out a lot of critical points.

Story: I think the writers took it for granted and just assumed viewers of the movie would already know the story. The story has a lot of potential, a twist on the common flower boy and inexperienced girl shoujo plot. However, this was not executed very well. I have seen shorter manga adaptations that tell a better story than this 2 hour film did. I never thought I would say a movie of that length was rushed but this one was. There was a lack of writing for their relationship and so it did not progress in a believable way and the character development was lacking. The friendship between Erika and Ayumi was fairly good, written with enough detail but Takeru, Kyoya's sister and even Kyoya were very underwritten and flat. Yes, I said Kyoya. THE MALE LEAD.  The movie was a meh romance that just wasn't as funny, compelling or satirical as it was meant to be. I think it could have been wonderful as a drama, even a limited episode drama, because there could have been more character development to convey the story much better.

Cast: The cast is not bad at all. My low score has nothing to do with the casting, I enjoyed everyone but they were not given much to work with. If the cast had better scripting and even more screen time for some of them, this could have been much better.

Music: The music was okay? There were some songs I liked such as the ending theme and the song where Kyoya is running through the city. However, I disliked most of the other music choices. They intruded on the scenes and were not very good choices in my opinion, especially the song choice during the cake scene. I found myself focusing more on the music at times than hat was actually happening on screen.

Rewatch: If you like it you can rewatch it.  I will most likely never watch this again unless I am desperate.. I really, really just didn't care for this one. I would rather watch the whole anime again.

This is just my personal opinion and I hope it helps. Don't let this deter you from trying it out if you think you might enjoy it! ...I'm just saying t don't expect a masterpiece. Overall, it was just between meh and okay.  Like always, happy drama watching. :)

A nice adaptation, could've been better

I am a huge fan of the manga (re-read it many, many, MANY times) and I was aware it would be hard to adapt the story into a single movie (a series would have been better), so I didn't have huge expectations.

The movie is nice, a bit messy maybe and lacks a bit of dialogue (like many Japanese movies/shows, sure, but this one would have probably benefited from it) and thought-process on how the characters reach certain conclusions/feelings. If you read the manga/watch the anime, it's easier to digest, otherwise it's a bit of a rushed movie.

The cast is very good, maybe only the female lead I found a little... not so great among the rest of the cast. Not for her acting skills, because no one in the movie really shines (except maybe the male lead and the female lead's best friend) but I feel like another actress would have fit the role better. Not what I imagined for Erika at all tbh. Kento Yamazaki, on the other hand, is perfect for the role, nothing to say about that choice.

One thing I can wholly praise is the soundtrack, cause there are many songs that are download-worthy and replay-until-you-vomit-worthy.

All in all, the movie is not too bad and I rewatched it 2-3 times since it came out. I'm still hoping for a live-action series though.

Disappointing

As someone that didn't see the anime or the manga, I didn't have any big expectations but was still quite disappointed.
The story could have been so much better but there wasn't really any development. The characters didn't really bond in any way and each time a new character was introduced, it's so brief you don't even have time to learn about them and think about if you like them... Also, you never learn anything about them, you just get to know what role they play (friend, sister, etc. not much more)
The acting wasn't so good, i cringed so bad even tho i'm a sucker for corny romances. I'm not sure how the main guy is in the anime, but here, he is so hateable : never acts or says anything nice and always talking to the girl like she's a dog... Till the end.
Another complaint of mine is the way it was filmed. For some reason, there was an overuse of extra long shots. A lot of interactions were filmed using extra long shots, resulting in me being confused on what i was looking at and even who i was looking at.
I found myself speeding through the second half of the movie since it got boring and had too many filler scenes.

This is  very typical japanese school drama featuring the 'bully' main and the 'insecure' girl. I definetely enjoyed this movie but as a stand alone. It's not a great adapation from the manga. The one main problem I had with this movie was the cinematography. As someone who did a tv and film course I can properly ask what the hell? There are scenes in this movie that just feels like that guy editing it didn't want to go through all the possible clips and pick the best ones. And they chose the completely wrong time to make these mistakes. For example during the emotional scenes. They start with a wide shot of the main couple talking and instead of cutting in close so the audience can see the emotions being portrayed by the actors they just stay on the wide shot for like 5 minutes longer than necessary and it just makes the movie lose so much value. Other than that I would have rated this movie an 8/10 as I'm a huge fan of the mean boy good girl troupe used in a lot of japanese dramas.

Over all a good movie and a must see if you enjoy school romance movies as much as I do!

I wasn't expecting that this movie would be any good, but surprisingly it was quite entertaining. Sure, the cliché was there. A student makes a deal with a bad boy to pretend to be her boyfriend in order for her to keep her friends. In exchange, she agrees to be his dog. Well, one good thing about this movie was that the boy didn't change into prince charming. On the contrary, he kept being a bad (really bad- not to use any other inappropriate language) boy and he was really rude, though the movie kind of tried to explain his behaviour. The girl was crazily naive and the definition of a push over. But the movie was quite entertaining and the love story okay, which was helped by the nice performances. So, 8 out of 10 (after watching it for the third time).

For being a manga/anime adaptation, it was pretty good. I did read the manga and watched the anime, and this movie did a pretty good job of keeping with the story. A lot of shows/movies that are based on manga/anime do a really terrible job of representing it, but this did a really good job. The casting was great and the music was amazing! Now the only real problems I had were the weird camera angles. For some scenes it would show the wide view of the whole setting and then wouldn't get close up. So, you would just be there listening to the scene rather than watching the acting because the characters are so far away. Along with weird camera angles, when it was close up the camera was really shaky. You know how the cameras shake in documentaries? It was doing that, as if someone was just filming it on their phone or something. Lastly, there are some scenes (not very many, I think like two) that I felt were way longer than they should have been. Other than that great acting, story, and music. It was just the weird camera.

Waste of my time

I had high hopes because I saw Yamazaki Kento, but this was by far one of the worst romances I have ever seen. I haven't read nor watched the anime/manga, but this was truly awful.

The story is garbage, 12 year olds on Wattpad are writing better content. The acting and the actors are the only reason I give it above 3/10. The relationship is not only disgusting but also unhealthy and extremely toxic and abusive. I liked Erika's character at the beginning but she lost more and more brain cells as the movie went on. There was NOTHING promising about Kyoya's character and I hated him until the very end. His feelings towards Erika are most definitely not genuine, and the entire dynamic between them is very strange and doesn't make sense. The end was rushed and his character changed all of a sudden, and overall, there was no character development. If the goal of this movie was to hate men, it was accomplished. <3

Kawaii...!!! This movie is so cute, funny and heart warming at the same time. Nice story, nice casts and acting, but for me the ending is too fast. I don't really see the changing of Kyouya's feeling (and the reason behind that). As always, I'm not finish read the manga yet (^_^;)

A lot of scenes have squeezed my heart. And not only once my eyes got teary. That moment when Kyouya lie to Erika before they went on study tour. Really. That scene really hurt my heart and my eyes got teary in instant. But I'm glad Erika pour a glass of water into Kyouya's face. That boy deserve it to cooling down himself. Then hmm..I love when Kyouya running all over Kobe to search for Erika. That panic and confused face of him tells us a lot about his feeling for Erika.

The average rating doesn’t suit the deeper layers of this film. You should watch it.

It’s a typical deeper meaning Japanese movie. I forgot that I already watched this film a long time age. That’s because I watch a lot of movies and series. But the feeling of how beautiful the deeper layers in especially his behavior (being damaged in his past, with forthcoming behavior as consequence) struck me directly again.

The movie is softer than the manga, from what I read. It also doesn’t the complete story and the years after. I’ll leave the manga and the behavior in that out of the evaluation and rating.
(Has spoilers https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolf_Girl_and_Black_Prince)

He was ‘wearing’ a shield to defend himself, because of harm in the past. That shield was his behavior, in order to not get further harm in his live. Behavior always has a reason. He’s not just a jurk, born this way. Behavior is often a reaction to (a) certain event(s), which brought about thoughts and feelings. If you change your behavior, you change your life. That is not easy. It requires awareness, insight and the courage to dare to change. That's what we've seen here. This takes time. Fall and rise. At the end of the film, this process is not yet complete. Not with both, because se also changed, with as outcome the decision she made in the end (I won’t spoil that).

I love the acting of both. Yes, he looked like a cold person. But that was his shield role, right?

The music suits the film.

I’ll surely will watch this movie again. .

A disappointing adaptation of an already quite average shojo manga.

A flawed film which did not manage to improve on its basic source material. The script was full of -sometimes fun, even though quite toxic/outdated- clichés (the tsundere hero, the naïve heroine, the pretend dating trope,...) but done in a quite boring and frustrating way. One of the key element being that the main female lead is subservient to the male character, it can quickly become annoying to see her being trampled over all the time. The secondary characters were not developed enough in terms of background or relationship with the main leads to allow some emotional investment regarding the story told.

The acting was subpar and the actors were not helped at all by the movie direction with some strange choices regarding its creative vision. For instance, the camera framing was often set very far away from the characters' faces during critical scenes, preventing the viewers to see and feel their emotions. Another example would be the way to drag out the display of protagonists running, hindering the pacing of the story for no seemingly valid reason. The OST was pretty good but again not really an appropriate match suitable for the poor narrative.

I would not recommend this movie to people unless they are looking for the usual high school romantic trope and/or they loved reading the manga 'Wolf Girl and Black Prince" from which this has been adapted.

A cute and funny movie

I wasn't sure if i wanted to watch a movie from 2016 as i have so many drama/movies to watch, but i fell in love with the title. The storyline reminded me of Best mistake a korean drama that i really liked and upon looking at the cast i am a fan of yosuke sugino and Yamazaki Kento. It was a storyline that could relate to HS students and the pressures felt in trying to fit in a group rather than be lonely. Erika was that girl and wanted to be part of the conversation instead of just listening to her friends talk about dating and sexual activity that have happened. So she has been pretending to have a boyfriend and involved in a rasey relationship and they want to see a picture and so she takes a few randon photos of this cute guy. As she nervous to show them they all agree that he looks like a model, but familiar until someone says hes Sata Kyoya and goes to there school. Now the fun begins as she has to ask him to be her BF and so he agree, but she has to be his dog and answer when he call and fetch what he wants. So now the so called fun begins as he doesn't believe in love and such and she try teaching him in her own way. Its a cute and fun movie to watch.

I really loved the 12 episode anime and even from that you can tell there was more left of the story. I really wanted to love this movie too but like many others have said it was just too much information to cram into a 2 hour movie. You never get to see why she actually falls for Kyoya realistically and why he starts to like her back. The characters are too underdeveloped and some characters are combined here to accommodate the time crunch if you will.

Over all though, if you take it out of context it's an ok romance to watch on an afternoon if you go into it not knowing anything about the anime or manga.

Also, I don't remember the soundtrack so what doe that say about the movie or me? I wonder!
