Another highly acclaimed and loved drama that I was putting off (It's become my habit to that) and regretting watching it so late. But better late than never. You should also take that into account and watch this show if you haven't yet, you're missing out on some really good writing and acting.

The story had me hooked right from the beginning. The moment I read the synopsis I knew I wanted to watch the show, but again the generally high ratings were turning me off a little, as I didn't want to start the show with unrealistic expectations. I began it nonetheless and to be honest I should have lowered my expectations a little and I might have enjoyed it more, much more than what I felt this time. The execution and direction was praiseworthy. The horror element could have easily become pitiable and downright miserable, but the writers kept a good balance between spooky and funny. The pace of the show is.. good. I wouldn't say it is perfect since it gets a little draggy in the middle, but that usually happens in almost all the dramas, even the really good ones, so it's not really something you should base your decision on, just giving you a heads up.

The actors. Wow. Impeccable work. Su Ji Sub was a pure delight to watch on the screen. His persona and charm as Joong Won was impressive. I could easily connect with the character because of him. Same goes for Hyo Jin. I'm currently watching another work of her's (It's Okay It's Love) and she's simply marvelous. I loved the work of each actor in this show. Each and everyone. I'm definitely going to try other works by these actors.

The OST of this drama was really likable. The songs were beautiful and catchy, and put forth the emotions well. The melody of the tracks especially, was quite soothing.

Despite the fact that there is so much I like in this show, there are things that stopped me from giving it a perfect overall 10 rating. It's definitely one of the shows I could rewatch again without much hesitation. But there was still the slight glitch that I faced towards the later part of the show. Too much push-pull tactic going on between the lead pair for my taste. Granted it's not unreasonable and foolish, there's a good solid reasoning behind it, but for me, it went on a little too long. But the writers need to be commended for giving a good and proper ending to the show. I was really happy with the finale. Almost so much that I forgot about the way it was dragged :P

Either way, don't let anything stop you from trying out this show. It's absolutely worth the watch. All the genres that the drama incorporates (Horror, Romance, Mystery, Comedy), everything is in a perfect blend and nothing overpowers the other. A really well crafted show. Don't miss it!

I'll just start this review by saying that So Ji Sub can officially do no wrong in my eyes. I just wanted to make that bias clear before I continued. :)

So, I had pretty low expectations of this drama when I read the synopsis, but It was the most fun I've had watching a drama in a while.I laughed, I cried, I crushed hard on So Ji Sub. What more can I ask for in a K-Drama? lol!

What made me love this drama so much, from the very first episode, was So Ji Sub & Gong Hyo Jin. The premise for their romance is pretty far fetched, but their chemistry was amazing, and their characters were so well played that even the most unbelievable parts worked. Both play the comedic moments, and the emotional moments equally well. They are, hands down, two of my favorites in K-Drama.

I think the entire cast was outstanding, even the minor roles. Seo In-Guk was so charming, that he didn't get completely over shadowed by So Ji Sub, which is very impressive. I'm definitely becoming his fan. Kim Yoo-ri was great, and it was really fun to love & hate her as Tae Yi Ryung. Their storyline, and chemistry, was also a lot of fun to watch. Choi Jung Woo was another favorite of mine. He was great as the caretaker/quiet instigator Kim Gwi Do. Han Bo Reum was maybe the only slightly boring one in the main bunch, but was still good enough to not be a distraction. It's the cast that held together the weaker episodes, because they were all so likable.

I thought the story was mostly original, and really well told, even though I'm not really a fan of dramas that include a bunch of unrelated mini stories in each episode. I think the Hong Sister's did a great job of making sure the stories still connected to both of the main character's development, so they aren't just completely random. The horror elements weren't cheesy, or all that scary (for those of you turned off by horror). There were plenty rewatchable romantic moments that made me swoon. There was one moment in particular that had me unexpectedly in boo-hoo tears. There is also a good amount of suspense.

The reason for giving this drama an 8 and not higher for the story is that It definitely lost some of it's magic, and started to drag a little, in the last episodes. I'm still not sure why introducing someone from Tae Kong Shil's 'unconscious' past was necessary, since it didn't do much to move the story forward, or explain much about why she is how she is. Too many plot developments like that seemed more like time filler towards the end, making the show lose some momentum. It had such a strong start, and was so addictive throughout most of it, that watching it start to fall apart at the end was really disappointing. That being said, I was satisfied by the end of the last episode.

Oh, the music. I guess nothing really stuck out to me besides "Touch Love" by T Yoon Mi Rae, but it was hard to get the "lonely love, yes i love..." out of my head.

Overall I loved this drama. It caught me off guard the way "Secret Garden" did, making the unbelievable seem perfectly plausible. Sure, it's the same rich mean chaebol meets quirky poor girl cinderella-type romance, but it still manages to feel fresh & unique. I would definitely recommend The Master's Sun to rom-com fans who want something that's a little different, and isn't too light-hearted.

This review may contain spoilers
-----Story: (possible spoilers, but I tried to keep it vague)

When I saw the plot synopsis, I must admit I rolled my eyes a little. “Yeah, main girl can’t live without main guy because they are both special to each other…”

I have never been so wrong.

The plot was crazily fun. They sort of had a ghost-of-the-week plot going, and I think that’s what really kept the story going so strong. Each time Taeyang and CEO Joo met a ghost, they learnt something new and the story + characters could both advance at the same time. Between the ghosts, the main plot lurked in the background, and I had great fun trying to work out just what had happened between Cha Hee Joo and CEO Joo.

I felt they dropped the ball a bit from episode 12-16, but to be fair dramas have so much air time that it’s probably pretty impossible to make it entertaining all the time.

-----Acting/Characters:

The characters in the drama were so absolutely on point. CEO Joo was absolutely hilarious. I’m in love with the way he played his character. The way he developed through the drama was excellently done—he bit by bit with Taeyang’s help thought with his heart instead of his head. On that note, the relationship between Taeyang and CEO Joo is probably my favourite ever from a k-drama. It was bittersweet, fun, heartbreaking, and had me in stitches. Together, they shined.

Can I just praise the heavens that we finally have such an excellent female lead? I’m so sick of the ‘weak, can’t do anything without her man’ type. Taeyang was a much needed breath of fresh air. She wasn’t just there to further the male lead’s story, but she stood on her own and it was really freaking fun to watch.

I have nothing but compliments for ALL of the characters in this drama (yes, even Hee Joo, as much as I hated her). The side characters were great and the acting in general was stellar. Secretary Kim and Loose Lips deserve a special mention.

On criticisms, I would’ve liked to hear a bit more about Taeyang’s past and parents, so I was a little sad they didn’t explore that. Also, I wasn’t too fond of Seo In Guk’s (Kang Woo) acting. He wasn’t bad, but he just didn’t quite do it for me, which was something I was pretty upset about because he’s my favourite actor. Also I felt they flubbed Taeyang’s development at the end. They kind of just sent her away and had her come back a strong character. Eh.

-----Music:

I didn’t quite hate the repetitive love songs playing as much as usual. For me, that’s a big bonus.

----- TL;DR:

AMAZING. I would recommend that anyone watch this. The characters were fantastic, along with the acting, and it’s probably one of the best dramas I have ever seen. Kudos to the makers. 9/10

My Master's Sun is really a great drama.
Many people said that it lost some of its spark by the last few episodes, and I agree. That's why I gave it a 9 instead of a 10. A very annoying cliché was added to the mix, but I think the Hong Sisters handled it better than I expected. Plus, the episode 17 rewards you for all the draginess going on in the three previous episodes.
That is the only complaint I have for this drama. The rest was really amazing: all the characters are lovely, even the "mean" second female lead, Yi Ryeong. I ended up loving her by ep. 17. The CEO and Tae Yang also showed a lot of character growth. And not one that happens from one episode to another, but a progressive one that you can enjoy throughout the whole drama.
And for those who watched The Greatest Love, the CEO is very similar to Dokko Jin. Except that a much less extravagant version.
I recommend it to everyone, no matter the kinds of dramas you like. It has its touching moments, its hilarious scenes, the very cute romantic ones. It even has a little action and some mystery packed in it. If you don't like Horror, then don't worry. I did not see much of that aspect. Sure, the ghosts were sometimes... disturbing. But it does not go farther from that.
And it also has a very enjoyable OST, especially the instrumentals.
Do yourself a favor, and watch this (if you do and you don't like it, I'm sorry).

First let me tell you how I met master's sun:

when I first saw the teaser from watching I hear your voice, I thought it's creepy; a pure horror story and didn't make me interested.
Then when I visited this page in mdl I look into the cast when I saw the main girl I was like: " oh the girl from the greatest love, why her?" (don't get me wrong I don't hate her..XD) then when I saw seo in guk *makes me a little happy, but when I knew he was not the main guy I was like "why not him?" In short the cast still didn't make me interested. Then I scroll some more and look into the genre and oh there's a romance in it!! then I was like what? comedy too??? is it possible? it's weird, kinda NEW for me and by that it makes me interested and look into this drama
I'n short I met this drama not because of the teaser, the cast but because of the genre and the comments too!:>

I was actually pleasantly surprised in the beginning that this show was almost like an episodic paranormal procedural. Every episode, they try to help a ghost and uncover a little bit of the overarching mystery, and I really enjoyed that. But then I guess they decided to blow it all to hell two thirds of the way, and the plot just became a convoluted mess.

Some people might disagree, but I also had a serious case of Second Lead Syndrome all throughout.

*Main Lead:* Treating her like unwanted trash and always telling her to get lost, that she's not even attractive, and she should wash her hair
*Second Lead:* Tells her to call out for him if she gets scared and actually follows her around just so he can be ready if she does call out. When he says that she never did, that actually broke me.

I wonder if there are any dramas out there where the female lead subverts expectations and says, "You know what? I'm done taking crap. I'm going to go with the nice guy that looks like Seo In Guk and actually cares for me." This ain't it.

Let me start by saying that the reason why I watched The Master's Sun is because of the good reviews AND viewers kept saying that it is the best drama of 2013 or one of the best (the other one being I Hear Your Voice).

I was actually confused what the rating should I give this show. I kept switching between 7 and 8. As I thought I will finally give an 8, I decided I will give it a 7.

I don't want to say I am disappointed with this drama, but it didn't really meet my expectation. I honestly DO NOT like horror. I avoid them as much as I could, but because of the reviews and people continued to say to watch this, I gave in.

I liked the first episode a lot. There are parts of the show that made me surprise and got scared a little, but one of the people who watched this did say as the story progresses, you wouldn't mind the ghost at all and she is right! I didn't get THAT scared as I thought I would, but I am still happy I watched this with my aunt and cousin. xD

Few of the stories of the ghost made me sad and cry a little (especially the first episodes). Erhm I thought the ending would be bad because my cousin and aunt told me it had a terrible ending, but I didn't think it was horrible at all. It wasn't spectacular though. (You might be wondering why I didn't watch the ending with them. We watched this show for 2 days, but for the last episode, I couldn't take it anymore and fell asleep so I just finished this drama.)

I really LOVE Kang Woo and Yi-Ryeong. They look good together! I enjoyed watching them. The other couples look cute too and I enjoyed looking at them as well. As for the main leads, they weren't amazing for me. I thought they were okay.

Lastly, you probably caught glimpse of why I rated it with this score, but the main reason it is a good drama for me but not very good or great or whatever is because there are parts where it dragged and parts where I got bored. I was really tempted at times to skip it. When we reached around episode 11, we almost decided to just jump into episode 17 to see what is the ending (I am glad we didn't though. We wouldn't know the answer of what we are looking for because it is not in that episode - if you know what I mean).

Recommend this drama or not? I think that if you guys want to watch other dramas, watch those first before this one. You wouldn't miss a great deal if you wouldn't watch this at all. If you really want to watch it though, go right ahead. It will make you laugh, at least in the first part of the show :)

First: this is a brilliant series and I wished I could give it a 10/10 because it was that good. But sadly not good enough. I would have given it a 10 until the 12th episode (or was it the 13th?). But then the drama lost a bit of its quality. Episode 13 to 16 I would rate between 8 and 9 and episode 17 would be a 10 again. I don't mean that episodes 13-16 are bad, but they aren't as good as the other ones. You could feel that something changed and this change wasn't much to my liking. Other people might have liked this change, but not me. I still enjoyed watching this drama, because it's just fabulous with great actors, good music and heart-warming scenes.

Master's sun was the first horror-drama I've watched and I thought that it was pretty cool (although the horror decreased in the further episodes a lot).

One of the most important things for me to like a drama are the supporting characters and I have to say that hey were really awesome in this drama. I mean, how could one dislike Secretary Kim or Kang Woo? Even Tae Yi-Ryung was adorable.

And about the main couple .. I honestly don't know what to say. I liked them big time! Gong Sil was such a cute person and it really surprised me that I liked her character. I tend to dislike such simple-minded characters, but there was no way I would dislike Gong Sil (thumbs up, Gong Hyo Jin!). And Joong Won, our little master was also a great character. I couldn't help but fall in love with him, despite his somehow rotten character. He made me laugh everytime he told Gong Sil to "get lost" with his epic characteristic gesticulation. Although it was really mean I couldn't help but laugh my ass off. Haha.

All in all it was a really great drama. With probably on of the best endings ever. You must know that I'm pretty much hooked on happy endings. And I say it was great. Although I hoped so much that Gong Sil and Joong Won would marry .. but I can't help it. Drama-makers apparently dislike marriages *shrug

I admit that giving this drama all 10s is probably over rating it a bit. However, I enjoyed this drama so much even with its flaws that I am just going with my feelings instead of picking it apart. Some people may find this scary, but it isn't to me. It is romantic and fun. Even with the girl seeing ghosts, I find it to be realistic about love. There is never a time when love is perfect. We all live in our own worlds. The trick is to combine your world with the world of the one you love. It is a well written story with great character development. The Hong Sisters have redeemed themselves.

Anyone that knows me from MDL, knows that I think So Ji Sub is the best. I was so glad to finally see him in a romance (although, I wonder still if I will ever see him in a drama where he doesn't get hurt...LOL). His hand gestures and way of speaking as Joong Won is very charming. For once I got to see that beautiful smile for longer than a minute. I absolutely adore Gong Hyo Jin as Tae Gong Sil in this. I wonder how she makes looking tired so adorable. The chemistry between her and So Ji Sub is perfect. Seo In Guk was also good as Kang Woo. He is amazing as someone that has only done a few dramas and being a singer turned actor. The other actors were good also. There were also some great guest appearances. For all of you Infinite fans, L is in this a little also.

The music is daebak!!! Even if you don't watch this drama, you have to listen to T Yoon Mi Rae's "Touch Love" and Gummy's "Day and Night". I'm putting "Touch Love" on my mp3 player as soon as I'm done writing this.

I will rewatch this eventually.

I recommend this to everyone no matter what genre you prefer. If your done reading this, then "get lost". LOL Peace

So this was supposed to be a mixture of romance, comedy and horror. But they failed to mention what a tear-jerker it was! I was bawling my eyes out practically in every episode, whether to sympathize with the ghosts or Gong Shil.

Acting wise the drama was pretty good. I enjoyed everyone's parts. But quite surprisingly I enjoyed Little Sun's part the most! She was so funny at times, even though she could be a little annoying. But I was really happy with her ending. I liked the main couple too. But somewhere it felt like So Ji Sub's character was being made to act like Dokko Jin (The Greatest Love) and that sort of ticked me a bit. Don't get me wrong - I love So Ji Sub! I'm sorry I love you (starring him) was the first drama I ever watched and it's like First Love, you can never forget it. It's just that Dokko Jin is EPIC. Every line coming outof his mouth is classic and no one can pull that kind of role better than Cha Seung Won. So somewhere along the way I couldn't stop myself from making comparisons.

And not just So Ji Sub's character, I was also left making comparisons in a lot of other aspects. Like how The Greatest Love was funnier and had a sweeter ending. I think this is the only reason I'm giving this drama 9s. Because in my eyes it can't surpass The Greatest Love.

But it does surpass it in one aspect. Music. I just love the entire OST on this drama. In fact, if you ask me, this drama has the best OST so far this year. The songs made it top 10 billboard too and it' fully deserved.

The rewatch value is a bit low for me, because I won't really come back for any funny scenes. I might come back for a few ghost stories that were super touching. I might come back for Kang Woo and little sun. And the aunt and her awesome husband! But that's all for me.

Overall this is a good drama. Much, much better than Big, but I think other Hong sister dramas are funnier. Nonetheless this drama deserves a good average, despite being a tad bit overrated.

One of the best dramas in 2013. The cast is outstanding, it's very exciting because of the scary elements and the love-line is very adorable! This is a must watch, with eye candies (So Ji Sub, Seo In Guk OMG), with 10/10 music, twists, and it hardly contained super annoying characters who you want to punch in the face!

I have watched so many dramas which had a really strong beginning but all went to disappointment. Not this one! It won't dissapoint you until the very end :)

Though I dont like the dramas where all episodes have different stories but at the same time very similar and the main story is in second place I really liked the first episodes of Master´s Sun.

Some stories were very interesting and I was liking of the romance but in a point this romance did not make sense anymore. The main couple was ver inmature, they looked like 30´s years adults but they acted like teneegers, the conversations all the time was about the same and not important. The main male character was very very arrogant and in the most part of the drama he had no respect for the main female character, in the beginig he was insulting her in many ways and then he did not respect her decisions.

The second couple was also the same, Kang Woo was very harsh and gross to Yi Ryung.

I really dont undestant this kind of love in the korean dramas. It seems that being a snooty and a jerk is seen as a quality for a man and them can treat to the woman as a ownship. The worst is when this happans because the male protagonist dont want to admit that he loves the female protagonist and it is so stupid and childish.

When this happens in a drama, I immediately lose interest.
