It has taken me watching a dozen horror movies to realise that horror movies have tiny categories of their own.
For example, there is the ‘Serious horror’ category, where the movies are purely intended to be scary. Then, there is the

‘Comedic horror’ category, where even though there are ghosts running around, you’ll be laughing more than jumping off of your sofa. The ‘Narrative horror’ category is centred on the story-line and moral values.

And finally, there is the ‘Trash horror’ category, which focuses on jump-scares with shallow plot-lines. This recommendation list will contain movies that fall in most if not all of these categories. I hope you enjoy it!

Horror Category: Narrative. Duration: 1hr 41min My Rating: 9		Based on a Thai legend. Mak (Winai) leaves for Bangkok and is seriously wounded in the Chiang Toong War. His wife, Nak (Intira), dies together with her stillborn child, but when Mak returns, they continue to live together, without his being aware that she is a ghost. But the forces of the supernatural realm eventually prove that such co-existence ultimately leads to an unexpected resolution.
Horror Category: Serious. Duration: 1hr 58min My Rating: 7.5 [Don’t blame me, I was really weirded out, but I was not afraid.]		The plot centers on ghosts invading the world of the living via the Internet. The film is a philosophical exploration into the alienation and loneliness of modern existence due to technology. Communication breakdown and isolation are the main themes of the film.

Duration: 1hr 26min My Rating: PTW		Upon getting an eye-transplant, Wong Kar (Angelica) begins seeing things that other people can not see, she also starts having visions. Then she realises that the face she sees in the mirror, is not really how she looks like. Just who is the girl she sees every time she looks into the mirror? Just what does she want?
		After a failed suicide attempt, a pregnant woman (Shu Qi) gains the ability to see ghosts.
		While entertaining friends from Hong Kong, Chongkwai (Ray) takes his friends Ted (Bo Lin), May, Kofei, and April (Isabella) to a tour through Thailand. One day while on tour, they witness an accident. In a solemn mood, the group decide to tell ghost stories and also try to summon them. But then everything slowly begins to go wrong.
Horror Category: Serious. Duration: 1hr 55min My Rating: 6		Su Mi and Su Yeon (Im Soo Jung) return home after an extended illness and hospital stay, their return is welcomed by Eun Joo (Yeom Jung Ah), their stepmother. Strangely, unexplainable things start to occur at the house. Something has changed, no one knows what it is, but the sisters can feel it. Could it be their stepmother trying to torment them? Or could it be that there’s something more sinister at work, a supernatural force in the houses that wants to drive everyone away?
Horror Category: Serious. Duration: 1hr 37min My Rating: 7.5		Tun (Ananda), a young photographer, and his girlfriend, Jane (Thongmee), were driving home after drinking with friends when suddenly they crash into a girl that was walking in the street. Panicking, Tun tells his girlfriend to run away. The next day, Tun discovers mysterious shadows in his photographs, and his girlfriend starts seeing strange things in his house.
Horror Category: Serious. Duration: 1hr 32min My Rating: 8		The story is about Yoo Jin (Lee Se Eun), a transfer student from Seoul who, with her two other friends, is constantly bullied by a few classmates. One night, Yoo Jin and her friends decide to place a curse on their enemies by creating an Ouija board and start to write the names of the female bullies. Using the Bunshinsaba curse, Yoo Jin warns the others not to open their eyes until the spell is finished. The calling takes effect, and Yoo Jin, somewhat curious, opens her eyes. To her shock and horror, she sees an image of a pale-like dead girl with long hair beside her. However, it does not stop there...
Horror Category: Serious. Duration: 1hr 42min My Rating: 7		Ping, a young nobleman, has retired from the service of the crown in order to become a musician. He becomes a student of Master Duang, a famous musician. Master Duang owns a mysterious drum called Perng Mang, which has the power to bring success or death to people. After a series of gruesome deaths in the group, Ping finally learns the secret of Perng Mang and that it was made from a woman’s skin. The woman’s name was Thip (Nune), the same name of the woman he has fallen in love with.
Horror Category: Serious. Duration: 1hr 35min My Rating: 8		Conjoined twins Ploy and Pim (Marsha) are very close until Pim meets a boy named Wee (Aun), causing her to decide to separate from Ploy. The surgery is performed, but Ploy does not survive. Years later, Pim and Wee are living together in South Korea when Pim suddenly has to return home to take care of her mother after she has a seizure. While back home, Pim is haunted by a ghost from her past.
Horror Category: Serious. Duration: 1hr 35min My Rating: 8.5 [this was v. scary, trust me.]		What kind of scenes in a horror film scares you the most? When a ghost appears totally unexpectedly? When the main character does not see the ghost sneaking up behind him? When at the very end, you find out that the main character was actually a ghost all along? But none of this compares to the feeling of arriving home alone and suddenly being struck by a feeling of deja vu that you are reenacting the very same scenes in the horror movie you just saw! This movie will scare you from the second you step inside the movie theatre. It will get you wondering if something or someone might be waiting for you to let your guard down. The horror movie that you just saw is about to happen to you in real life! COMING SOON!
