We Watch Challenge 2025
Hello fellow We Watch Challengers,
As Wish Upon A Star can't continue this challenge in 2025, I decided to take over (for the time being) to keep this challenge alive as it's definitely one that stands out with its uniqueness.
Like everyone else here, I’ve only been a participant so far so we will take this journey together and see how it will go. I ask you all to be patient with me and encourage you to point out if I have made a mistake or have overlooked something. :)
I will keep this challenge as it was with the Hall of Fame at the end of the year, with only two changes.
1. I will not post monthly ceremonies, but have a list on the second post that will be updated regularly where everyone can see the latest status. A huge thanks to SAOMEO146 wo will run the monthly ceremonies.
2. The customized badges (new design) will not be made unless you ask for it. Since Selbee mentioned she didn’t care for the badges but the challenge and its recommendation factor, I assumed others might feel the same about it. So in order to reduce the workload in graphic aspects, I will offer to make badges for those who want them and will not make badges for those who don’t want them.
The following parts are copied from the past We Watch Challenge 2024, credit goes to Wish Upon A Star.
For returning challengers, the steps and game mechanics remain the same, with new badge design.
For new challengers, read on for the details of this challenge.
Fancy taking part in a Watch Challenge that is less time demanding, and in the process watch a drama you have not watched before and make new MDL friends? Join the We Watch Challenge 2025 and get your customized badge. Participants who collected at least three customized badges in 2025 will be placed in the We Watch Challenge 2025 – Hall of Fame. See Hall of Fame post below.

To facilitate the transition, the last Challenger to recommend the final drama for the 2024 Challenge will be auto ported over to be the first Challenger to be recommended a drama in the 2025 Challenge.
So starting the 2025 Challenge forum is KC Drama LOVER. Do recommend a drama to KC Drama LOVER!
Hi, KCDramaLover! I saw that you are having a very busy year, so I am going to leave you with three short options that were impossible to put down for me… they are 8, 6, and 8 eps (each ep 50mins so 6.5 hours, 5 hours, and 6.5 hours total).
**If you don’t want to participate, it isn’t a big deal... or if you have to wait til you have time, likewise, we’ve got all year. Don’t feel pressured, just welcomed! ❤️
Option 1: Light Shop Some sadness in this but dark humor interlaced and cinematography that is breathtaking… thoughtful, warm, compassion-soaked, and despite centering around people passing, it is really warm and can offer solace. I saw one of its leads (UTG) on your profile. ;)
Option 2: Family Matters My weakness got exposed, and my soul got thrown into a character, so admittedly I can’t resist recommending this. It is a found family with a grandpa, mom and dad, and teen twins, only the twins related. They just happen, despite very normal day to day lives, to have REALLY different superpowers from the norm (um, don’t watch if violence bugs you or blood, either, bc it has quite a bit of each though it is a bit funny even in dark moments-or I am twisted…both, probably) and such intensely dark, quirky comedy that I was cracking up too too much. It is ridiculously fun and centers around a whole different kind of Avengers.
Option 3: The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call A different, real world day in day out superhero story with fantastic leads who are charming and eccentric and devoted to their craft. As the title suggests, these are trauma center personnel: surgeons, anesthesiologists (man buns never looked so good, I swear, and shouldn’t!), and a kick but “gangster” head nurse holding the place down. It is very high-energy annd rewarding, and coming from that world, I can say it is quite authentic with medical accuracy (I wouldn’t be able to recommend one if it screwed up terms, procedures, etc). The bromance is through the roof.
Open for recs! In general, 24 hours is my typical limit unless something is adventurous or otherwise high energy (and doesn’t have the dreaded filler 2/3 through). My two requirements are no dubbing (all Chinese historicals have dubbing, modern less so but if you aren’t sure, maybe pick another or Baidu lists both the person on screen and the voice dubbing cast for most I’ve seen on there) and no glorified violence that gets easily forgiven in the script, ie no domestic violence with “but the one who hits you really loves you and…” because I will implode if I see someone stay with a perpetrator who beat them; just be sure anyone who hits innocent people gets punished heavily is all I need. :) That is it. Weird is wonderful, thrillers always welcome, maybe not so much pure fluff-I need a bit more story depth to think about so tend to like sadder romances more than fluffy ones but prefer romance to be secondary, not the main plot… always seeking stuff from Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Thailand.
Sorry for the delay in posting (and for being really long winded!), but I actually watched both after finally finding the movie (which truly NEEDS and deserves an official streaming platform!) and decided to keep How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies as the title for this challenge as I liked it so much it should go on record here! I wasn’t sure I would enjoy it at first, and it did take some warming up to, but this made me equal parts enraged and sorrowful. The characters’ realistic lives and priorities thoroughly pissed me off, the elderly brother introduced near the end getting all manner of curses from my head! He was so despicable I wanted financial ruin to suddenly strike him in his final years (and still do). The grandmother absolutely broke my heart, and her grandson went from aggravating me as intended to making me ache as his childhood memories came back, especially with the phone call that he thought might be a scam and the following parts with the “knocking and announcing where they were” to keep it vague/not spoil things too much in case anyone stumbles upon this. ;)
My main, very small criticism is the ?cousin? (some cultures use that term for close acquaintances of the same age to clarify they aren’t siblings, not sure about Thailand though they seemed more like friends whose parents were close than relatives). She felt a bit too like a prop, lacked any expression to indicate how she felt (so both dealing with the elder and the ML, she seemed a bit artificial, just there) and there were moments with aroused undertones (him staring at her midriff showing as she changed an incontinent elder’s diaper, her wearing that to tend to a dying grandfather also kind of strange, the mention of kissing as little kids) that felt pointless for telling this story and her lines felt a bit strangely delivered… it really is a minor thing I would have wanted handled a bit differently since she felt like she was dropped in there solely to connect the ML to the notion of taking grandma’s wealth and didn’t feel like a real person, only so noticeable because the rest had such powerful parts!
My final rating is a 9.5 which is, aside from a total guilty pleasure film and a sequel to a favorite that outperformed the original, the highest I have given films on this site. It joins the ranks of films like A Taxi Driver, Innocent Witness, Rashoman, Parasite, Silenced, the film version of Love in the Big City, and Swing Kids along with a few smaller, lesser-known titles, so it is in great company. :) Thank you so much for the very different recommendations! (I enjoyed The Other Half of Me and You, too, and was grateful they put chunks of episodes together on YT though the breaks were a bit frequent for my taste and took me out of the moment quite a few times. Their chemistry was fun, though, and I liked both versions of her, his attendant hair a distinct “nope, that’s gotta GO,“ each time they threw that 7 year old prep school boy style—hair and garments alike—on him, pushing allll the fluff down firmly onto his scalp as if intending to make him seem like a Little Rascals character that grew too tall too fast but kept the hair and fashion from his school! It added some unexpected comedy for me.) I’d never heard of either which is why I love this challenge so much!

- Love 911 - a movie full of fun and romance ✓
- Under the Skin - a slower paced crime/mystery drama

Thoughts: It’s hell on earth to keep driving, knowing it’s really just a wrong turn. This really hit me hard. To sum up my thoughts and emotions about this drama, I’ll quote a comment: “This is one of the pinnacle dramas in the romance genre!”
However, I can’t give it a perfect score because the nonlinear narrative was a bit hard for me to follow at times. Also, I was hoping for more screen time with both the FL and ML together. That said, I’ll definitely rewatch this drama a few more times.
Thank you leafless7 for your recommendation!

I checked your PTW list and found some real gems there that I would say are best dramas of those countries.
1. 1 Litre no Namida (beautifully sad, prepare tissues, but so worth it)
2. Age of Youth (sismance, drama and comedy, that one got me into sismance dramas)
3. The First Responders 2 (action, medical, teamwork, one of my absolute favorites)
4. You Are My Glory (modern romance with sweet chemistry, I loved it)
5. The Gifted (mystery thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat)
I'm in a bit of a drama slump so something shorter with max 20 hours that pulls me out and keeps me interested would be best at the moment.
I'm open to genres (please check my like/avoid info on my profile as there are genres that do not work for me). Preferably a drama from China, South Korea, Japan or Thailand.
@Arclei Thank you! Going with Nagatan to Aoto: Ichika no Ryourijou. When it pulled you out of slump it can do so for me. The only thing I watch right now is The Top Speed which is okay enough to keep me seated but not mind-blowing. xD Thanks for the recommendations, they all look interesting. <3

Rating: 8.0 Nagatan to Aoto is a solid drama, that is perfect when you're looking for a calm drama watch, the ending was a bit rushed in my opinion and also a bit open (I even checked if there was a second season as it sort of indicated there was one). Overall a really nice watch and the food scenes made me hungry. xD

Hello there, @JulyMoon 👋
I went through your profile's likes and dislikes and I recommend you...
![]() | Nagatan to Aoto: Ichika no Ryourijou Japan - 10eps (25min) Noona slow-burn. Short and endearing slice-of-life drama with a sprinkle of romance. Just been in one hell of a slump and this seemed to have pulled me out |
![]() | Japan - 9eps (25min) Contemporary fantasy mystery/action with incredible sword fights and a solid story. |
![]() | Ready, Set, Love Thailand - 6eps (1hr) An unusual romcom with adorable couples and pretty funny comedy. |
Recc requests: Please do check out my like and dislike list on my profile 🙏
- Nothing too long please since I rlly struggle with very long watches xD Miniseries, short length series, or movies are ideal (under 8 hours)
- No tragedies, sad endings, or terminal illnesses
- I mostly gravitate towards mystery/thrillers, atypical romance dynamics (mostly rr), and sports
Edit: Thank you for all the reccs @SAOMEO146!

I will try to exclude the genre you mentioned (some changes)
Hikaru no Go -Centered about game of GO and the MC with the ancient GO master (I personally Loved it a lott)
One Day Off - For me this is the most relaxing drama I have ever watched , in case you want genre like that it is perfect
Reply 1988 - undoubtedly the best reply series including comedy romance , , talk about character development every situations , acting , dialogues were so natural like in every other household
Soundtrack #1 - A decent miniseries slow burn romance
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pls give me movies only (Korean/Chinese - thriller based only ) , Not in the mood for romance genre for now

I accept THE WITCH: PART 1. THE SUBVERSION (was on my mind for a long time)
Status - PTW COMPLETED

RATING - 8.5/10
THOUGHTS- Kim Da Mi , as always impressed with her acting (already seen 2 of her dramas) everything , It was genuinely was going a bit boring was a thriller genre as half of movie didn't really showed any part of that aspect (was getting feeling of slice of life something type , but then at 1:40 hr , went too spicy that's was really the holding part of whole movie , those fight damn!! and the plot twist, not really expected .
pretty ironic when thinking of Beloved Summer and then this movie 😂
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have added the pic for the badge
Hi SAOMEO146
the movies I am impressed with-
1. Soul mate- Chinese movie. It also has Korean remake.
2. The Call- Korean thriller
3. THE WITCH: PART 1. THE SUBVERSION- Korean thriller. I was so impressed with Kim Dami acting.
4. Kim Ji Young: Born 1982- Silenced movie actors.

Hello again, leafless! I'm happy to see you seemed to enjoy 1 Litre No Namida so I give you the other recommendations again as I think they are equally good in their own way. If you want something new though, feel free to drop me a DM.
1. Age of Youth (sismance, drama and comedy, that one got me into sismance dramas)
2. The First Responders 2 (action, medical, teamwork, one of my absolute favorites)
3. You Are My Glory (modern romance with sweet chemistry, I loved it)4. The Gifted (mystery thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat)
I'm open to recommendations. This time I feel ready for something longer (but not necessarily, you may recommend me a standard length K-Drama as well). If you watch Chinese drama, please take a look at my 30-40 episodes long C-Dramas in my PTW list, as I'd like to watch one but just can't decide.
I accept the recommendation for The Trauma Code from KC Drama LOVER.
Status: Completed
Rating: 10
Thoughts: What a ride. Episode 1 left me dumbfounded. I liked it, but what was that syringe throw?! That really upset me, because it's so far from reality, but then they thankfully stopped with such nonsense and picked up pace. I laughed so hard on many scenes as it was wild and funny. Every time I think the drama lacked in something I remember, no it didn't. There were deep and emotional parts, there were intense moments, there were heartwarming moments, all that within 8 episodes. Could it be longer? Yes. Were more episodes necessary for a good pace and story building? No. Also gosh that surgery scenes were so authentic and I love the drama for it. Yes, it takes lots of budget but you see the difference it makes. Overall that drama deserves a 10. Yes, I was annoyed at the higher ups scheming (I always hate those even though it's realistic, I just hate scheming in general) so for a moment I was thinking of giving it a slightly lower rating, but the drama didn't put too much focus on it, so I'm able to put it aside and the scriptwriting did well in that aspect too.

I was first going to choose Light Shop but after this iconic intro, "How have you not yet seen the beautiful, heartrending, equal parts agonizingly fearful and immensely hopeful, psychologically intense 2018 drama" my mind could not resist. Thank you for your amazing way of introducing, because of that I got curious and read all the options you gave before choosing :D But the bait that was so interesting that lured me this time is:

1st Challenge completed for 2025!
Hi, again, KC Drama Lover!
Well, since I already had two others from the first time I challenged you this year, I’ll include those:
Option 1: Light Shop Kdrama, 6.5 hours total, description above
Option 2: Family Matters Kdrama, 5 hours total, description above
NEW OPTIONS!
Option 3: How have you not yet seen the beautiful, heartrending, equal parts agonizingly fearful and immensely hopeful, psychologically intense 2018 drama that is Mother? Kdrama, 16.5 hours total
-Summary for anyone curious: The most melodramatic toned of the offerings but not tacky melodrama to me, real world nightmares and imperfect solutions with an abused child that needs saving desperately, an emotionally detached substitute teacher who only wants to follow birds as they migrate and study them and whose own family feels complicated and difficult…
Option 4: Home Drama Jdrama from 2004, 8 hours total (first ep is 90 mins, the rest 45), links hidden in spoiler gray at the bottom of the summary you don’t read. :)
-Another favorite of my fave theme (found family). Tender, healing story of 8 people who meet as strangers of three different generations and live together under one roof because their shared situation, losing the people most important to them in the same accident, has them feeling alone even if around others, the pressure to be okay and cope/get over it so others aren’t uncomfortable too much for many. A bit of tears, some laughter, constant warmth, perhaps some rage at society, too, can be in store for you. Two current places to watch before I forget em (they moved around a lot), dvd rips from 2006 IIRC so maybe check the servers to see if any are clearer than others or adjust your screen colors if the colors are too washed out): https://ww2.kissasian.vip/watch/home-drama?ep=1 or https://www.dramacool.sr/video-watch/home-drama-episode-1
Option 5 if the others don’t call your name: Usotoki Rhetoric Jdrama, 10 hours total
-This is a quirky little thing, stress-free, cute, peculiar, and warm, good sick day or “brain detox” viewing. The charm of two cat-like people, an actual cat with prominent screen time, and a small community around them in a mystery set in the mid 20th century.
(Summary you don’t read lol: The FL has a superpower, her ears hearing a metallic sort of ringing tone in voices when they lie, while the ML is a private detective forever behind in paying the bills. She becomes his assistant and lives upstairs in his office-home situation. I almost waited to recommend it closer to the end of the year since it ends at Christmas in the story, but it isn’t holiday-centered, so I am throwing it here.)
Take your pick! Take one, take all! What bait has lured you in this time? 🤣 if my math is right, they only total 46 hours combined (and I am not even typically one to watch super short stuff but it is what is in my head now).
Open for recs! Forever seeking the great unknowns, stuff not flooding feeds when they aired, thrillers, off the wall stuff, dark comedy, anything goes EXCEPT 1) dubbing (no Chinese historicals or other titles where the mouth and voice is disconnected be it a different person or the same cast member but with the timing off) and 2) glorified, overlooked/“no big deal” or “but they didn’t mean it” excuses/forgiven violence/assault/abuse including neglect (especially against family members and any elders, kids, disabled, or otherwise vulnerable subset of the population). I want those people heavily punished in dramas like I wish they would be in real life far more consistently.
That list took a while to get through and consider! I know people love Untamed and Fairy&Devil, but dubbing has killed solid stories for me, so I don’t want to hate something so very loved by so many humans I adore! Same for Killer and Healer—I checked its credits on Baidu and almost all the main cast aren’t doing their own vocal parts which is a shame… Go Ahead might (if I can get myself to watch something that lengthy) be in the cards later, but I watched the Korean adaptation toward the end of last year so its storyline won’t be so fresh, especially since people on here kept spoiling the Cdrama by constantly comparing and saying every little difference without spoiler tags for those of us who hadn’t seen Go Ahead.
With that leaving Cherry Magic (which I am watching the Jdrama original version of so probably shouldn’t mix them if I want to keep things straight and not feel hefty Deja vu), Link Click, and Never Let Me Go, since I had already gone through and checked the Cdramas…
I accept my dear Tanii’s recommendation for Link Click since it both comes with your approval and hurrah doesn’t dub over the actors’ voices! I am going in blind beyond checking my dubbing trigger! :)
Thoughts/rating: TBD!
Hi Elbee! I know you don't want Chinese Historical dramas, but I'm putting them down just in case they pique your interest! (We seem to have similar tastes, because all the titles on my "Loves" list are highly rated by you!) (If these are a no for you, then lmk I'll choose other ones!)
1. The Untamed
2. Love Between Fairy and Devil
3. Killer and Healer (this one is more on the modern side (no costumes kind of one)
4. Cherry Magic (not sure if you watch BL, but this is a Thai BL)
5. Link Click (modern C-Drama but more on the sci fi side than romance)
6. Go Ahead
Hope you enjoy it!
I accept SAOMEO146's recommendation to watch Study Group! (I was planning on watching it actually, just forgot to update my list!)
Status: Completed! 9/10 Thank you for the recommendation!
