Hi,

i am almost new to JDramas and I want to watch more of them. Please recommend JDramas which match the following points:

- no weak / dumb female lead
- less or no comedy
- less or no romance
- no terminal illness
- no pure detective / police investigation drama
- special plot / very interesting maybe unique story
- psychological would be great but is not a must

JDramas I liked so far:

- Itsuka, Nemuri Ni Tsuku Hi
- Sixteen Shoukougun
- Orthros no Inu
- Switched
- Boku Dake ga Inai Machi
- 3 Nen A Gumi: Ima kara Mina-san wa, Hitojichi Desu

Thank you in advance :)

Some of my personal favorites:

  • Kotaki Kyodai to Shikuhakku (about two brothers who work as "rental oyaji")
  • Dakara Watashi wa Oshimashita (about a woman who becomes interested in the underground idol scene)
  • Eerie: Mienai Kao (thriller)
  • Juhan Shuttai! (workplace drama in a publishing house, focusing on manga publishing)
  • Soratobu Kouhoushitsu (workplace drama about Japanese Air Self-Defense Force, and a journalist who covers them)
  • Spark (a drama about manzai comedian, and even though its main characters are comedians, I assure you the drama itself is not the least funny; the ending is really weird and I'm still trying to figure it out even now)
  • anone (a drama about a group of misfits who end up as a "family" of some sort)
  • Quartet (four "failed" musicians band together to form a string quartet)
  • Yami no Bansosha (investigation drama; unique in how it uses the perspective of a seasoned manga editor in solving the case)
  • Kataomoi (mystery drama; I'm trying to avoid spoiler here, but it shows how some marginalized people try to make a life in a society that doesn't seem to accept them as they are)
  • Tokyo Joshi Zukan (a woman and her life in Tokyo, seen step by step as she continually moved from one neighborhood to the other)
  • Gou Gou, Neko de Aru (a manga artist, her cat, her assistants, and her day to day life; very low key)
  • Koko wa Ima kara Rinri desu (real life problems faced by high-schoolers, considered through the lens of Ethics; I think the English subs is still ongoing)
  • Ore no Hanashi wa Nagai (a jobless man is really good at talking)
  • No Con Kid (video games and friendship)

Kazoku Game

Kenja no Ai

Keiji Yugami

Joshi-teki Seikatsu

Gipo to Musume no blues

Liar Game. (Japanese original, 2 seasons + 1 movie)

I rate it 10.

But I rated 5 the korean remake.
