I am a fan of the manga and place the jdrama at the top of my list so I had high expectations when I heard JKS would be Momo... but what kind of huge let down was that?! I come to think this story wasn't fit AT ALL for a movie length. The very heart of the story is relationships, how two lost souls connect by hiding themselves behind a master and pet game, but clearly, there wasn't enough time for them to fully bloom nor for the sexual tension to deliciously sneak in, resulting in poor chemistry and rushed acting. They included too many major elements to develop them properly, giving a feeling that nothing that was told or that the characters did were important. The pace was boring (ugh, the first 15mn...) and I had a hard time actually watching the movie until the end because I just couldn't focus on the plot.
I'm also disappointed that they worked Momo's character around JKS abilities. As much as I like him - and he does sing beautifully - MatsuJun actually learned a few ballet moves for the drama and it was much more elegant and graceful than that weird musical piece they delivered at the end. It was also part of the character: the original Momo/Takeshi has this aura of mystery that draws in and fascinates Sumire as she gets to know his "human" life. JKS's Momo was 80% Momo/20% Kang In Ho. The ambivalence of his character wasn't well-balanced.
Worse for Ji Eun. I didn't see her two faces at all! While she's Miss Perfect in the office, she's supposed to be a total wreck off duty. What I saw was just a regular woman chilling out in lounge wear. The contrast between her "working self" and her "at-home self" should have been much more prominent than that because this is what allows her to develop a close complicity with Momo in the first place. Boy, I didn't even find the "hitting Momo every now and then" a comic relief...
I know the actors aren't originally bad (at least, for JKS) and I really wanted to like this movie, but sadly, it didn't work for me.
P.S.: also, thumbs down for JKS haircut... he doesn't look cute but girly. I wish he'd be back to the manly "Beethoven Virus" look.
