I'm looking for a drama that takes a tough real issue and portrays it in a honest and beautiful way. I'm looking for a mature drama that can deal with a difficult topic that you don't see in many dramas because it may be looked at as taboo to some. Topics such as drugs, sexuality, abuse, mental illnesses, addictions and any other life issues. I don't expect Korea to ever tackle such serious issues like Japan which is why I'm asking for a Japanese drama. I've seen a few jdramas that have dealt with serious issues and I feel they handle it really good.TW dramas do good with this to  and  unless you know a kdrama that's really well made that deals with this! I'm very open to hear about it. as for other things I'm looking for I would prefer if the drama that is recommend to me has  romance in it as well please! That is extremely important to me. Unless the drama doesn't need romance.. I watched LIFE and it wasn't a romance drama but I still loved it. Also I don't care what year the drama is from it can be new or old.And just so you guys know these are the dramas I've already seen that have dealt with serious issues so need to recommend these!
LIFE
Kamisama Mou Sukoshi Dake
Last friends
14-sai No Haha
Deep love
Majo no Jouken
Byakuyako
MARS
 Hormones
Gloomy Salad Days
Boku no Ita Jikan
Scent of A Woman- Similarly to Flowers For My Life, this drama has a unique view of life and death and love.
Life Is Beautiful- A drama about a regular family with a gay son. I'm currently watching this one, but it seems like what you're looking for. This is the second Korean drama that's dealt with homosexuality, that I've seen.
Ho Gu's Love- I rarely recommend dramas that I haven't watched, but this might be another drama you might like. I can't explain why since it's still airing, but you'll understand by the end of episode 2.

Korean dramas that deal with the theme of adultery & redemption: Valid Love, Secret Love Affair, A Wife's Credentials. They're all mature Kdramas that aren't plastic or shallow, so I'd rec them if you want a story that's more about relationships and life rather than a clichéd love story.

Oh, and Incomplete Life is also a must-watch drama for anyone who's lost faith in Kdramaland and wants something a bit different.
i recommend mother too
I recommend:
It's ok that's love - very well made
Thank you  - a little older but tackled an issue that could have been ripped from a recent and real story. (A similar thing just happened in a small town in China)

I've also heard the Taiwanese dramas deal with serious issues well.
Since you already watch MARS and 14 sai no haha I'm just going to add:
- Innocent Love - murder and abuse
- Nagareboshi - prostitution and organ donors
- Tegami - murder and society
- Umareru - childbirth problems
- Tsubasa no Oreta Tenshitachi season 1 and 2 - several issues (prostitution, illnesses, etc)
- Daisuki!! - Mental illness
- Jenny and Juno-- becoming teenager parents
- I Heard it Through the Grapevine-- similar plotline
- Reply 1997-- dealing with high school / college issues and teen angst
- Misaeng-- the workplace
- My Name is Kim Sam Soon-- chef finding a job, very genuine though maybe not always realistic drama
- Sunny (K-movie)-- teen friendships, jealousy, love, growing up
