In the drama, JC walked off after WWX fell, but LWJ watched in horror as he fell. Still, that whole part happens in slow motion and we technically don't see WWX fall too far. Maybe LWJ actually did jump on his sword after the shock of WWX throwing himself out of his grip - but he was already too late. We just didn't get to see that part.
It was mentioned that WWX's body was never actually found at the bottom of the cliff. So what happened between that initial fall and the bottom of the cliff? Well, when WWX was dropped onto the Burial Mound, he was swarmed by all that dark spiritual energy - he managed to survive that fall. Perhaps something similar happened during his fall from the cliff, except WWX was suicidal at that point. Remember how XXC couldn't be brought back because his soul had been shattered? Maybe something similar happened with WWX except his entire body disappeared with his soul. After all, there was all that talk about how using demonic cultivation could damage his body. Maybe LWJ saw it happen before he could save him.
