Did you watch the drama yet? If you have you cannot miss the BL between the main leads. Although it’s subtle…
So. True.

I understand the frustration with China's censorship. However, I must admit that I really enjoyed the way this drama was done. The connection between our two leads feels much deeper because the story relies on other means to show their love. In the US we see all sorts of physicality, but the relationships feel so shallow.

(^v^) I should have mentioned the blindfolds. That might have been convincing enough to continue the drama. Oh well.

I can't get over this drama. Someone please help me.I'm so obsessed with this story and everything about it XD
I just finished the donghua and am savoring another read through of the novel. I was just thinking how crazy I must be to want to start watching the drama again, but then I come here and see that everyone else has done the same. I know I'm not exactly sane, but I'm glad I'm not alone. ♡^▽^♡

Erm...not offended, but romance by definition isn't really something that you can be objective about since it's all based on feelings. What you think is romantic may not be the same thing I think romantic is. Lan Zhan's protective nature toward Wei Ying and everything he does for him is incredibly romantic as far as I'm concerned.

I notice on this forum, many of us have changed our profile pictures to Wei Ying/ Xiao Zhan or Lan Zhan/ Wang…
I've had my account for almost a year. This is the first time I've decided to add a profile pic . (^_^)

It's not like that through the whole drama. Only episode 6 has that stuff. Okay... there's a little more bondage later on and there's more drunken frolicking, but it's not a threesome unless you count the chickens that are involved.

In all serious, though, it's okay if this isn't your thing. I look for story and characters first because I'm in it for entertainment value and this hit the bull's eye for me.

I love those scenes so much. They all look so graceful! It's got to take some amazing coordination and strength to pull some of that wire work off. I seriously tell people that one of the reasons I watch Chinese wuxia and xanxia is because of the flying people.

Great points. o(^▽^)o

On the point of the pornbook that WWX borrowed from NHS, I'd like to add that NHS admires LWJ's good looks on a couple of different occasions which leads me to believe that he is also gay for LWJ and makes it even more believable that he has a large gay porn stash to lend to WWX.

I caught the drawings in episode 14 too! :D

We'll have to agree to disagree on the point of acting and directing. You should give it until episode 6 because there's a drunken threesome, bondage, and spankings. Still, if that's not your thing, don't torture yourself. ໒( ͡ᵔ ▾ ͡ᵔ )७

It's hard to get over this drama. I know how you feel. I'm glad you have a plan that includes the novel and fanfic. You might also need a rewatch once you've completed the novel. There are also numerous BTS clips on YouTube along with other Untamed content, including fanmeeting clips and fan made videos. Search Tumblr for some great Untamed .gifs and ficlets. There's also the donghua (anime), the manhua(manga), and the audio drama if you still need to re-experience the story. There's lot of things to feed the addiction, including coming to here to talk about how much you love the drama.

So... in real life I've known gay guys who have acted as if they are interested in the opposite sex because of societal pressures so I always shrugged off WWX's pretty lady talk as something like that. It's in his nature to flirt with everyone. In the book, he's portrayed as a much bigger ladies' man than in the drama, so the drama actually waters down that aspect of him.

LWJ is a very introverted character. He's super annoyed by WWX in the beginning because of how persistently outrageous he is - they're seemingly total opposites. Still, LWJ also quietly notices WWX's other qualities - he's smart, he's got excellent fighting skills, he knows when to take things seriously, and he's selfless. LWJ's brother actually notices his interest in WWX, so there's something going on in LWJ's head pretty early on, he just stays in denial for a bit. This could be because he struggles with how much of a rule-breaker that WWX is which goes against everything he was ever taught, or because he honestly doesn't know how to make friends.

The story is told from WWX's point of view, so we aren't entirely privy to what's going on in LWJ's head - we can only really make assumptions based on his actions. I really think that LWJ comes to some realizations after the cave incident, but I don't they don't see each other again until after WWX starts using his flute. LWJ looked for him while he was gone, showing he really did care about him by that point and grows even more concerned because he believes that WWX has started practicing evil cultivation techniques.

When I first started watching this drama, I hadn't read the book either. I expected a friendship between the two leads, but the first two episodes convinced me that it was more than that because of the way the two main leads interacted with each other. I felt the relationship was well done and the chemistry between the two leads was amazing whether you thought of them as friends or potential lovers.

What do you feel was not believable about their friendship?

It's nice that you articulated the same things I felt about the show. I don't understand how people overrate some…
1. The rating system has no set rules. People get to rate based on whatever criteria they want. I know it's annoying, but it's how it works. I'm annoyed that I can't rate this 87/10, but I don't make the rules either. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

2. Positive points. Score! You're not a total negative nancy. (๑•̀ㅂ•́)و

3. Mo Xuanyu sacrificed his soul to summon WWX. The mask is to keep WWX's identity secret - when he reincarnated, his appearance changed (this is different than the way it happens in the book, but masks are universally known to be a thing people use to hide their face). Mo Xuanyu is known to be a bit nuts which is one of the reasons he has a mask in the first place, it's also why WWX's is nutty in episode one. I didn't find this difficult to follow and it's what hooked me on the show. I didn't read the book until later and found that the content from the first episode was even funnier in the novel, but couldn't really be used cuz censorship.

4. I don't understand the concept of boredom when it comes to this show because I'm a bit of an obsessive freak so my brain is constantly analyzing whatever is going on any scene. Look up The Untamed Crack on YouTube for examples of what goes on in my head at any given moment during this show.

5. It's okay to look in the mirror and tell yourself that you don't have to do anything you don't want to do. Feel free to sing a few verses of "Let it go" while using your magical ice powers to build an ice castle if that helps.

6. I may have been too distracted by WWX and LWJ's love affair to notice scenes like the one you are describing. I am totally willing to watch a third time to figure out what you're talking about. I'll still probably want to rate it an 87 out of 10 though.

7. The Untamed is better than Nirvana in Fire in my world. And on MDL according to the rating system. The reason is The Untamed provides more Feels than NiF does. Nirvana in Fire is rated higher on douban if that makes you feel better.

8. You really need to understand how rating systems work. They measure how much other people like something which is not necessarily an accurate predictor of how much you'll like something.

9. (ง ͠ ᵒ̌ Дᵒ̌)¤=[]:::::> <:::::[]=¤༼ຈل͜ຈ༽ノ

Wei WuXian also topped my list of my best characters in any fiction/any media/anything pretty early on as I was…
Oh, I didn't feel like you were dissing YiBo at all :) Xiao Zhan was amazing and he was able to show his incredible range as an actor - he feels incredibly genuine in all of his emotions which I think is one of the reasons the emotional ride of The Untamed felt so intense and real to me.

I just feel that there's also brilliance in being able to convey emotions like love, concern, frustration, surprise and anger while still maintaining the general lack of expression that is central to Lan Zhan's character. Wang YiBo does an amazing job with this, especially for being as young as he is.
