The saddest thing is the realization that they MAKE them be like that. Because obviously, in that patriarchal society, women are infantilized, and the ideal woman is pure, innocent, bubbly, like a little girl. The saddest thing about Esther Yu is that, in Love of Fairy and Devil, a few episodes before the end, she finds her true self (won't spoil here) and suddenly she has a beautiful mature voice and calm demeanour. So this was her voice! She can speak normally! And we had to endure the baby-talk for so many hours! Dang!...
(The drama in itself was beautiful, and the characters were very well written, even secondary ones.

I have heard people say that botox immobilizes the face muscles and this may be the cause, because she was better in her older dramas. Of course I'm not in a position to know whether she had some work done or not (and I generally don't care), but in that case, for an actor, it's not a good idea!

Someone's acting makes us believe in the character, become invested in him/her, makes our heart beat whether in anger or romantic feelings, makes us dream and be immersed in the drama/film. Another actor's performance does none of that but makes us bored and uninterested in the character's fate. We want to skip or fast forward. Or go to bed instead of watching one more episode So, do we have to be a director or actor to know how we feel about them?
What is an actor's job if not to help (together with script writer, director, cinematographer and composer) the audience become immersed and involved in the story, so that we are breathlessly waiting what will happen next, and when it's over regret it, wish for more, and think about it for days after ?
For me this actress didn't deliver that. Of course you're free to disagree. But we do have the right to speak about our personal experience, thoughts and feelings.

Enough of her. She's the same in every single drama I've watched her in. After Encounter, I thought I'd give her another, last chance with Now We're Breaking Up but nope, again this single-expression acting. Yes, she's really beautiful, but... so what?

Yes, most of us feel the same. The 2-3 episodes before the finale, the action parts with the criminals, were not very well handled by the writers.

Just finished it. Wonderful drama. Took off one star for the lame couple of episodes before the last one. I do think that a final confrontation with his father and with his gangster bosses was necessary to help our boy get closure and start a new life, but it wasn't handled very well.
I also thought that, once our two lovebirds became a couple, there was a loss of spark between them, they acted around each other like a couple of 20 years, bound more by affection and friendship than passion. (Yes, passion does fade with time, but so quickly?)
Other than that, I loved watching this, it was very comforting, all the cast did a fantastic job and JCW had a chance to really shine as an actor this time, with a juicy role he could give justice to. Apart from the enjoyment of just looking at him and wondering, how on earth can a man be so perfect?

No, I'm talking about the first male lead, Huai Huai, and the lady lawyer. The ones you mention have already become a couple.

I'm loving it! Binge-watched the first 18 episodes in 2-3 days in the midst of a very hectic schedule. When will our hero and heroine become a couple? The romance is a bit lukewarm here.

You can see the difference in the last few episodes, when she becomes her true identity. The baby girl voice vanishes. So it seems she does have a normal voice, the baby one is done on purpose to sound more cute and innocent and vulnerable - nearer to the feminine ideal of that part of the world.

What you say about her voice is true. It was unsufferable for most of the drama. But it seems that the Chinese public wants their women to be childlike, it's part of the patriarchal culture. Voice apart, though, her character has been shown to be very brave and strong and she makes her own decisions. Which is a plus.

This series is so good! Pity that now we have to wait 28 days for the next episode!

Acting skills gap too, which is much more serious.

Is she a great actress, though? I looked her up in Wikipedia and, although I've watched some of the dramas she was in (Crowned Clown, My Fellow Citizens and Witch's Diner), I couldn't remember her - neither her face nor her acting.
If she's not a memorable actress, at least let her be a beauty. And a mature one, to match him, like Han Yeseul for instance, or Shin Min Ah.

That one, surprisingly, was better. I'm saying "surprisingly" because I'm not a fan of Chinese dramas.

Because the two male actors suck and it kinds of ruins it.

She didn't "fall out of love", she discovered that she had never really loved him.

That snarkiness was uncalled for. As you have every right to say that the drama is quite enjoyable for you, I and everyone else also have the right to point out things that we feel are lacking, without us being attacked. I won't engage in more conversation with you, it's not the kind of interaction I enjoy and in my opinion it's also completely useless for both.
