it's so cheesy and embarrassing yet unexpectedly so entertaining. i had a really good time watching it. honestly i could watch 20+ episodes of this drama and still not get bored. i hope they'll continue the drama with new seasons when they have enough material from the manga because it deserves more than 8 episodes.
It's like a dorama version of Love Actually with many couples and the xmas theme, they even recreated the iconic scene from that movie in this drama lol.
Overall it's a very lovely and positive drama about illness, I like how they didn't mention the name of her disease because the disease itself doesn't matter, what matter is her willing to live and his desire to stay by her side.
Other comments here were right about it being slow though, somewhere after the first fews episodes it started to feel like this drama was dragging and I found myself keep expecting it to end. It's not a bad drama, I just I don't think I'd give it another watch.
I'm surprised no one mentioned it here before but there should be a little warning that some supporting characters did blackface while wearing afro hair (for comical purpose of course) in this special epsiode. I first watched this drama about 10 years ago and as an Asian I admit I was totally ignorant about this matter so I didn't notice it. The drama itself is still a good one anyway but this special is kinda unnecessary imo. So if blackface matters are offensive to you, I suggest not watching the special ^^
I like to think there are some metaphors or symbolism to the piggyback scene at the end. My english is not good…
Yep, their childhood place was not like how it used to be anymore, just like their relationship. At first I thought so too. It was like they buried their relationship in that ground forever. But I guess something about the ending made me change my mind on that (I rewatched it months ago, I can't recall the details sorry). It just felt like they didn't give up yet. I never watched the anime actually, I don't really want to know how their relationship will turn out in the future because their relationship makes me feel like no matter how they try to split up, they'll just end up together again (if that makes any sense) so I'm satisfied with the LA movie. But do watch it again and let me know if your thought has changed :)
