I've never been this triggered over a movie. The topic is so heavy and so frustrating to think it happens in real life. Ryo kase is a wonderful actor, an excellent example of subtle acting with passion. The highlight of this movie is seeing his character changed over these gruelling case hearings. His facial expression went from "lol are you serious?" to "Damn I didn't do it what the hell".
Kohinata "the king of jdramas" Fumiyo just portrayed the most annoying Judge ever. His trademark pleasant face made you believe he will made the right call but NO.
I also love the monologue at the end
"I know I didn't do it. I'm the only one who can judge here cause I know I didn't do anything wrong. I can judge the judge and he is wrong."
The things you hate is what I love about the show XD. Like you said too realistic. I also know people like michiru in real life and there's many of them. I know it's annoying but it's the combination of dependence and personality of a person. Sometimes there's things you can't control but good thing she had awesome friends to help her.
I think it's one of the best character driven dramas out there. Acting is great, it's one the few dramas that I wasn't annoyed by masami's acting, it's also the best performance by ueno juri imo. Kudos to japan having this kind of dramas.
Because there are people who loves cliche romance just like in anime and kdramas. You know $$$$$.The setting is…
Yeah we're cool. World would be a boring place if all of us think the same.
It the unusual themes...that's the appeal to me, and that's why I love arthouse types of movies cause you won't find those themes on mainstream ones. But not all student teacher dramas are like that. Some are cliche like for Sensei, Rainy Days & that yamapi movie that I forgot the title. But there are people who loves that because sometime in our life there's a time we had a crush on our teacher which most of us confused it with love. They just want to live that moment even in a fantasize drama.
Not just japan but in hollywood if you know the movie "The Reader" is also about a teenager who has an affair with an older woman. But guess what it is critically acclaimed and won best actress for kate winslet in Oscars. It depends on the person on how they will view it, those judges that saw "The Reader" view it as an ART which other casual movie goers thought it romanticize pedophilia.
Japan really doesn't care about the opinion of westerners so I'm not surprised about that. Just like any country there's a hidden dark side. But what I like about Japan there are drama/movies that shows how f*cked up their country is. They are not shy on showing that. Like bullying for example which is a big problem in japan right now. There are many dramas/movies that portrays bullying in the most honest manner, and sometimes over the top, which would only make their bad reputation worst. IMO It's their government that needs to be blamed and not their people.
Morals is a very difficult topic because before that word is invented, our world is big grey area and that's why every set of people has their own set of morals. It's also the main source of conflict...conflict that lead to war, so I would not even dare to have a debate on that matter. Just respect each others opinion.

Granted it's against the morals in this world, what's the difference between dramas about infidelity or criminal antagonist, or let's get more controversial...the bible when it says man is for woman vice versa, there are dramas that against this teaching. It's not that I'm against it, I'm just giving an example.
IMO It doesn't mean these stories are made that they are already romanticizing the idea. Dramaland is not real ife. People are not dumb to say "oh I'm gonna have a relationship with my teacher because that's what I saw last night". Or "cheating is ok because the mistress is so baddass in that drama". Get my point?
No it's ok I'm also just giving my opinion. I'm not here to shove my beliefs onto someone's throat.
Why is Japan so obsessed with student-teacher relationships? I get it that they view everything differently compared…

The setting is cliche and the characters but the romance part like love they portrayed is not. There's 3 types of love portrayed in this drama which I will not bother to explain since you already dropped it in 3 episodes. Also, not all student teacher dramas are cliche. There are themes that they tackled aside from the student teacher romance part.
I'll give you 1 example https://mydramalist.com/790-kou-kou-kyoushi-2003 This drama tackles the difference between love and dependence which I didn't know before watching the drama. It's an interesting concept kinda fascinating.
Believe me I know where you coming from. God knows how I hate cliche type of dramas, triagles is what I hate the most. But even if they are cliche as long as it has underlying layer themes that is fresh to my eyes I would still love that drama.
Another movie about the conflict between south and north korea. The last movie I watch like this is "Spy gone north", and just like that movie it has awesome chemistry between leads and has a heartful ending. Unlike spy gone north it has more action, so between the two movies I would recommend this the most, but between the two I love spy gone north more. They are so good doing movies like this, they should do more.
It made me think, what would happen to japan if world war 2 didn't happen. There might be no anime and Godzilla wouldn't exist. It's just sad, but also fascinating to think, the events that happen resulted to them having such a strong pop culture.
Sex themed movies will always be viewed as negative here on MDL, hence the low rating. Yes, there's countless number of sex scenes in this movie, but it is just shallow to view it as a Softporn because this movie has meaning. The characters are the foundation of this movie, they are very raw. I love how they interact and their awkwardness at first leading to them opening up with each other (no pun intended). Ikematsu and Kadowaki are really great, they didn't talk that much but you could feel the chemistry by just simply staring at each other. The ending is a bit punch to the gut but also realistic.
Let's be honest the only reason why some people hated this movie is because they want cheesy romance between Shin Min Ah and Lee Byun Hun. LOVE is the theme, but ROMANCE is not the main point of the story.
