The story is quite common, but the story around it isn't, I so loved the magical touch to this story, it made it really interesting! They managed to keep me hooked from the beginning trough the end of this movie. The surroundings were gorgeous, the clothing was beautifully made and the decor is interesting. There were some funny parts, that I found really enjoyable.
As someone that comes from Europe and has zero knowledge about the Dynasties in Korea I so find the usage of costumes so interesting!!
It would have gotten a full 10/10 if there was a bit more action, it had some but it was stuffed into 15 tiny minutes, I hoped they played that out a bit longer, it would have wrapped up the story a bit better in my opinion.
The actors did a splendid job, from the minor ones to the two leads, whoms connection I felt troughout the whole movie.
The music was perfectly chosen in the scenes and I surely will rewatch this movie.
Watch this if you like romance, magic, humor and historical movies.
Skip this if you like full on action, blood and dislike romance.

An enjoyable show until the last two episodes
I really enjoyed watching this show. Sure, it had a number of silly K-drama cliches and tropes but they all do. It had a cutesy story and I liked the chemistry between the male and female leads. The fact the mom from the rich family didn't do the usual "here's ten bucks, stop seeing my kid" was refreshing. It's the usual rich-guy meets "poor"-girl story and hilarity that ensues from the whole opposites attract thing. We learn through various story bits that Sun Gyoel's grandpa was not that nice of a guy, especially when it comes to his business dealings, which is why Sun Gyeol has, at best, a frosty relationship with him. The grandfather also had something to do with a tragedy in Oh Sol's life. So, of course, we all know what's going to happen,.And happen it does in episode 15 with the ol' "We can't be together because someone you're related to did something to me/my family, even though you have absolutely nothing to do with it" cliche. The fact that Sun Gyeol and his grandpa don't get along (and never really have) makes the crappy way Oh Sol and her family treat him when they find out even more maddening. He didn't deserve that treatment they gave him when they found out who his grandpa was. He didn't deserve not being told what he had done wrong to warrant the treatment he got from them (he didn't do anything wrong). He didn't deserve the cold shoulder he got from her when he went back to Korea after a trip to the US to get some help. She didn't deserve getting with him at the end. There is no way they should've gotten together after the way she and her family treated him.
The final two episodes ruined what was a nice, cheesy, and entertaining show. The first fourteen episodes were enjoyable, for the most part, but I can't recommend the show because of how terribly it ended.

After seeing so many dramas, I've developed this sense of prediction what will happen next in most of those I've been watching and i assume many of you did as well. This drama is everything but predictable.
Many unexpected events occurred and it made me wonder what for God's sake I've just seen. It has a bit special sense of humor, so it might not suite everyone's taste, at the moments it gets even weird, but it definitely has its own seal. I have to admit, i haven't seen a lot of family dramas, but this one was totally my coup of tea. Although I enjoy watching comedies, it's really, really hard to make me laugh out loud. I didn't have this kind of problem while watching this one.
The story was really heartwarming and it gave me the feeling of family warmth, which is the purpose of family drama i guess. Characters were unique and well designed. The story gave enough of space for every character and a chance for us to meet them all and hear their stories. Actors were good as well, especially the kids. Kamiki Ryunosuke's acting was at the moments odd, but overall, it was great and he was a nice surprise. Tanabe Seiichi was amazing and i couldn't imagine anyone else in this role. I really liked the character he portrayed - a totally unusual father with a totally unusual actions. The supporting characters were also amazing and led us to many hilarious moments. I really liked that after each episode, family was growing bigger and bigger. Even the supernatural part with a ghost of late mother was very well matched and had a great meaning behind the funny scenes.
Music was also very good, especially the opening, and nothing in this drama was unnecessary.
As for rewatch, i'm a rewatcher, i usually rewatch dramas i've liked sometimes more than once and this one i'll surely see again!
Anyway, if you are the fan of Japanese dramas, i suggest you give this one a try - it has that Japanese touch and sense of reality - although in this drama you might find some parody elements as well.

Story: Most of the plot is just the main female character trying to get this cold CEO to fall for her and marry. It would have been more dramatic if the fight over the hotel happened during instead of at the end. Also, the romance between the 1st main couple is slowly built with most of the relationship (falling in love, breakup/angst all happening towards the last few episodes. In between though there is a revenge arc going on to keep you interested because you will want to find out the details. I actually liked the romance between the 2nd leads more because their messy relationship pulled me in making me root for them. The ending brings a welcomed twist for one of the characters.
Acting/Cast: The 4 leads did a great job actingwise. However, the actress that played Hong Mi Mi really made her character stand out more than the other female lead. She made me hate her character at times but also feel sympathetic for her at other times. I also feel like she had the most character development. For the actress that played the main female character, while she was great, I feel like anyone could have played her part and probably better. Same goes for the second male lead. When it comes to the main male lead, I wish the writers had started his character development a little sooner because it made it hard to like him for most of the drama. The supporting cast did a super job of making their characters stand out and made a lot of the scenes so enjoyable.
Music- It wasn’t that memorable but I can think of one song I liked (they repeated it over and over again in the latter half) enough to listen to outside of the show.
Rewatch- While not a must watch again, I liked the story enough to watch sometime in the future.
Overall, Can Love Become Money is not perfect and probably won’t appeal to the masses but it has a lot of things that hardcore drama lovers like myself would find enjoyable.

The plot was very credible such as the characters. The love story between the two forbidden lovers is amazing and very realistic which only made me like the movie more.
It may be a little slow in the beggining but as we go into the movie it gets better and more interesting, leaving you wanting to know the ending of the couple. The sensual scenes are very romantic and sexy at the same time (at least I thought so).
I noticed the characters growing in me as the movie advances, and I came to love the main couple (even if they don't always make the right choice - in my opinion). Even though the ending is not perfect I was very satisfied with it.

OMG!!!! You must watch this drama because the story line is perfect. Sometime when i watching drama, i skipped a few scenes. But, I don't skip anything in this drama. I think the story line is not complicated as the other lakorns but it has plot twist (actually i already guessed it first, but my sister couldn't guess it haha). Their acting are excellent. The female lead succeeds in playing 2 roles from 1 body. I prefer the female lead from the future to the past. Beside that, i can't take my eyes off to the male lead because he is so cute especially when smiling. His smile makes my heart warm haha. The other actor and actress acting's also very good too. The female lead and male lead should act together again in the other drama. Their chemistry is so excellent. The soundtrack from this drama are so easy to remember. I really like the opening song especially when it is played during a romantic scene. At first, it's hard to find the soundtrack in spotify, but finally i found it. I think i will rewatch it again someday. I just don't like the ending (this drama is happy ending but...). I hope there is season 2 or another drama playing by the main couple. Highly overrated
I have to preface this by saying one thing - I like both Zhao Lusi and Chen Zheyuan and I’ve watched several of their shows. This is the show I couldn’t like either of them in.I didn’t intend to watch this show at all- the premise and trailer didn’t interest me, but I thought I would give it a shot anyway. Even though there was an uncomfortable age difference between the characters (not generally, but just because she’s a minor at the beginning), I thought the first 9 episodes were handled pretty well. There were some sweet moments and the episodic nature of the show made it look a bit like a story about growing up.
Till about ep 14, the show was still kind of sweet and funny. It’s after ep 15 that I found this absolutely juvenile and boring. I know most of the comments here will praise the “love story” and so on and how great these characters are, but I actually couldn’t root for the couple at all. From ep 15 to the end I was hoping it would get better but it never did. It was like the writer put some effort into assuaging fears of the story seeming creepy in the beginning when Sang Zhi was young, but once she was “older” all of those efforts went out the window.
My main issues:
When did Jiaxu fall in love? For someone who had been through a bunch of trauma and had a difficult family situation, he has no hesitation or thought about getting into a relationship with Sang Zhi. I didn’t like how CZY played Jiaxu as a cocky, overconfident guy (I’m guessing that’s what the script required him to do). It seemed like such a bizarre decision. We are told that he somehow blames himself for what his family got into (the accident and all that)- at least that’s what we hear Sang Zhi saying- but we never see it from Jiaxu. He has no trauma that we can grasp - his father gets shown only twice in the drama. Once when he’s about to pass away. This is where we learn that Jiaxu doesn’t drink because of the accident his dad caused. None of these traumatic events are even touched upon until the story demands them to be there. Without them it would make no difference. Instead this trauma should have been a big reason for Jiaxu to hesitate or to believe that he’s worthy of being loved.
The other issue- Zhao Lusi playing a 19 year old like she’s 13. Initially when ZLS was playing a 17 year old like a kid, I accepted it. I thought it was cute and endearing in a way. But when she’s a supposed adult, she continues talking in a baby voice. I don’t see the difference between this version and the younger one. It became rather annoying after a while.
I also don’t understand why they cast a 10 year old kid to play 14 year old SZ. With all the comments about grooming and all that going on, you think the makers of this drama would’ve been extra careful. Instead, this didn’t help the case.
The love story did absolutely nothing for me. We are somehow supposed to believe that these two have an amazing love shared between them. They never have deep conversations about things like a real couple would. Instead there are just lots of kissing scenes inserted randomly. Where are the long and deep conversations? Where is the friendship and banter in a relationship? For two supposedly smart people, they surely don’t have any smart, intelligent conversations.
I think all of these are easy fixes. Firstly, SZ and DJX could’ve met once again probably 8 years after she gives up her crush on him. At this time having both of them as working adults, having meaningful lives outside each other would have been interesting. From a slow friendship it could’ve eventually grown into love. This would’ve been much better as currently there’s no friendship stage on this show. They go from “you’re my brother/sister” to “I want to woo you” within one episode.
The supporting characters could’ve been interesting and could’ve had their own stories but their lives mostly revolve around the leads. I liked SZ’s brother the most but even he doesn’t get as much to do outside the leads.
This show is just so disappointing. It’s not a horrible show by any means- the beginning was rather nice- but it is so superficial and lacks any depth. I’m rather shocked at the immensely high ratings for a show that has nothing to say or contribute.
I’m really stumped that the rating on MDL is this high, beating out masterpieces such as Nirvana in Fire, the Untamed, etc. Actually even ZLS’s other dramas like Love Like the Galaxy and Who Rules the World are so much better. To put it into perspective, a show with a simple story - such as Reply 1988 - is so brilliant that it could do so much with the time it had. It built multiple storylines with multiple characters and everyone had their own story to tell. HL missed so many of the important elements that makes for good storytelling, so yeah, I am indeed shocked by the ratings.
EDIT:
I forgot to mention how unrealistic it is that by 24, Jiaxu has paid his father's debts and medical bills, etc, owns a really fancy car, gets a house soon after, quits his job to move to SZ's city, all in just 2 years of working. Is he a millionaire or what? Another example of the writer not having had any experience of adult life.
I also completely dislike how this drama pushes the idea of a perfect romance to very young people. SZ is only 19 when she gets into a relationship and I guess she gets married 3 years later? That’s a really terrible idea when an individual’s brain doesn’t fully develop until they’re 25. I wouldn’t have had any problems if these two were actually above 27 (ideally late 20s), but this feels like it’s telling youngsters to find “the one”’ immediately after they become legal adults.
All that said, I’m happy that Chinese dramas are getting some popularity through this show, even though in my opinion this is an average Chinese show and far from the best. However, I guess it has made some people happy and I can appreciate that.

Knowledge of the soul boundlessly make s us gloomy if the pros of feelings fail to keep us cheerful and vigilant. Melancholy leads to doubt which in turn results in despair and ultimates cultivates wickedness."Melancholia (멜랑꼴리아)" is a journey of desolation, dejection and despondency with fruitful meanings and worthwhile outcomes but what's different? It's mathematics. Yes, the most hated subject in the world, haha. The drama uses a different approach to promote the mathematical perspective of life through the characters who are devotedly peruse mathematics.
The drama have more than a dozen of flaws, even to be called good. It's purely an average piece and can be easily skipped though I can't exactly say it's bad and deserve to be treated as a complete trash, and I have many reasonings for it as well.
Note: There is no paedophilia or cheating involving the leads of the drama. It's just stupid perceptions of some narrow-minded people who jumped into conclusions without watching the drama.
Based on 2 different time periods with a gap of 4 years, the story is almost equally divided into 2 parts; a past story of 2017 and a present narration of 2021. Ji Yoon Soo (Im Soo Jung) and her most favourite student Paik Seung Yoo (Lee Do Hyun) falls victim to a conspiracy of intentionally set up scandal that frames them of having unsound relationship. Owing to the constraints, both of them fail to prove their innocence and fall apart, just to find themselves in misery. 4 years past the tragedy, both of them cross paths and unite to bring to surface, the corruption, conspiracies and the big faces behind it, in the school, of the past and the present.
Yoon Soo, morally upright and endearing woman, is a highschool math teacher, who is aware of the art of steadfastly making someone fall in love with the subject. She's all the qualities to be a perfect teacher but her sense of righteousness gets her in trouble. Paik Seung Yoo, born genius and immensely attracted towards math, is a highschool student after dropping from MIT which he joined at very young age. After a tragic experience, he shows no interest in studies, tho he has all the capabilities to conquer.
Im Soo Jung is an amazing actress and a movie person, rarely opting for dramas and very selective in that regard. She must have seen some potential in this though the execution went shabby. Lee Do Hyun is definitely the best in acting, among the rising Korean actors and his performance was good as well. Other than the leads, there are in fact many familiar and good actors in the drama and I will refrain from mentioning them to keep it short. But special applause for Jin Kyung who played Noh Jung Ah, the Principal of Asung High though she's the main antagonist in here. She definitely created an impression with her character dynamics and we are aware of her acting skills.
Plot development.....umm..... It's inconsistent and unremarkable though it had scopes and rooms for improvement with the episodes; like given the basic plotline and the mixture of 4 genres (romance, highschool, slice of life and corruption reveal), it could have been a lot lot better to finally come forward as a decent melodrama but, alas! I wasn't really that bothered while watching the initial episodes with the slow pacing, but the later half consequences made me realize that that the speed was totally inaccurate to begin with.
As a story, it isn't actually a trash as some people will tell you, or even below average. I would say it's just ordinarily average and the ratings can lie somewhere around 6.5 bcs Well, talking about episodic progression, From ep1 to ep8, i.e exact till the first half, it's a fair watch and didn't feel like skipping or fast-forwarding. The show starts going downhill from the beginning of 2nd half with the repetition of some events and constant push & pull between the characters over one thing. To reach the ultimate goal, i.e. bringing forward the truth, they particularly start dragging from the 13th episode and that's clearly visible. Tbh, I started fast-forwarding from 9th ep at 1.5× and kept the same till the end.
The script could have been squeezed into 12 episodes or even 10 by increasing the pacing and removing all the dragging they did in the last 4 episodes. However, I must admit that the ending sequences in the last 2 episodes were good.
Kim Sang Hyub is a producer of extremely popular yet qualitatively mediocre dramas. His dramas blow up bcs of good-looking cast and the story he adopts are usually typical cheesy romcoms. But this was a different approach, i. e. not a romcom and cast ain't dominated by good-looking young mass. Moreover, the slice-of-life elements along with mathematical pov; all these things are not his forte and he couldn't even execute them experimentally, which is quite visible. The direction was poor, the pacing is unnecessarily slow for a corruption-reveal drama. The slow screenplay could have been manageable only if it were a warm pure romance genre but that's not the case.
Kim Ji Won is known for only one of her scripts, that's Doctor John, which was in fact a good drama. I haven't followed other 2 dramas of her so can't really tell about her skills though I can assure whatever she had to offer for Melancholia, that didn't work to a great extent. Can't cite the script a total failure but it surely had the potential to be a good and likable one-time watch. I have already talked about the plot development above, so let's move on.
OSTs are very good indeed. Park Se Jun is quite a talented composer with the experience of working in uncountable numbers of dramas and the 4 OSTs of this show are the proof. I loved all of them. 2 of them are in English and other 2 are in Korean.
"All I Need" by Jemma is a ballad of comfort. More than love, it depicts solace, relief and assurance. The vocals of one of my fav singers Sunwoojunga in the soulful and longing song "Darling" questions one's faith in love. "Lilly of the Valley" by Band Nah, a popular indie trio is actually a cover of the song with the same title by Daniel. It's simply a beautiful melody that expresses gratitude to the essence of love. "Let Me Know" by Cheeze is a melancholic call in true sense; it has the feels of an authentic Kdrama OST.
The most notable thing about the drama is mathematics. I am a bio major and wasn't that fond of mathematical practises but I, for sure, knew that it's an interesting subject and studying it can be enjoyed though not everyone can accomplish it with utter amusement. The writer has tried to connect mathematics with life, love and living in a beautiful way. Mathematics here is not just a mere subject of academia and profession, it's much more than the mystery of the universe and one's pleasurable experiences.
There is very short-lived romance or you may take it as almost little to no romance, but sure there is development of chemistry, there ie comfort and there is undisplayable emotions that constantly blooms despite all the odds they have to pass through. This is not romcom and you should skip it, if you're actually expecting some romance. Even so, this buildup is worth it, in my opinion.
Bullying in highschool, corruption in admission process, unfair and unequal treatment to students in the same school, illegal & phoney favors, creation of unnecessary competition among students, parents negligence to children as well as leading children towards wrong paths, etc. are the factors used in the drama. I love how the writer has put emphasis on the ways of nurturing a child and their future, both in home and school along with the mistakes in the process that can ruin them. It also addresses the ways in which children are wronged by adults.
In short, the drama had too much potential with a good plotline, good actors and good premisea but what ruined it are choppy script, poor character dynamics, shoddy plot development, superfluous pacing and expendable characters of no significance. But personally, it was watchable for reasons like: mathematical interpretations of life, resolute leads, acting of the major characters, up to par basic plotline and so on.
I don't believe in completely discrediting something for flaws in some parts of it. If something specific has convinced me, I should def be fair with mentioning them. On that note, Melancholia, overally, is not a bad drama though it has a lot of flaws which could have been easily avoided. The major reason to watch the show is the mathematical frame of reference and utilization of that outlook in the drama. I came here, as expected, for LDH and ISJ and several other actors whom I like, and yeah, I loved their performances even though the drama didn't interest me to a great extent. So on a final remark, you can either skip the drama entirely or watch it in leisure when you have nothing to watch.
P. S. All of these in my review are very personal. I loved the drama but I didn't; i would like to describe it like that. For me, this drama was actually very difficult to judge; it'a not really very bad and not very good as 2 different groups will claim but I guess 7.0 is fair enough considering all the aspects. I thought it's important to put a unbiased, fair and balanced review. Some might agree and disagree with both my contents and ratings but I'm okay with constructive arguments.

This is a cute series - if you like fluff, this is for you. I'll likely forget about it fairly quickly, as it really has very little to say - it's just a well-done production of a very standard BL story.I'll start with the negative to end on all positives. The reason I didn't enjoy this more is that I think the main character was poorly cast - I didn't find him likeable and I don't think he was well-acted. Before anyone knifes me, Shinwoo is an even more awkward character with even greater problems expressing himself, but I'm totally in love with him. Kang Yoo Seok managed to imbue his character with layers, subtly expressing a large range of emotion. But if you scratched Lee Sae On and found out he was actually a mannequin that can talk, I wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised. This made me not really care who he ended up with - I was just resigned to him getting one of the love rivals when I was kind of hoping they'd form a thrupple with Shi Woon.
The show was also a bit too sanitized, with everything too perfect - it was a bit distancing. For example, TK was visibly plastered with white makeup - they all were, but it was worst with him.
There are a lot of positives, too - other than the main character, all the acting was great. Choe Chan Yi's DaOn was a masterpiece of placing a happy face over a struggle with inner demons - the subtle suffering under the smile was really affecting.
And while the show was a virtual checklist of BL tropes, it did avoid tropey cinematography and attempts to translate manga frames into live action. For example, there was no weird wide-eyed stare when anyone kissed, people just reacted naturally. And there wasn't that stupid triple-take whenever anyone hugged, kissed, held hands, or at any other time - that always drains the moment of emotional energy, and I was happy that was dispensed with and I was allowed to just enjoy the moment.
The story is well-laid out and coherent - we needed more context for Shinwoo's behavior, but it wasn't a big issue. I really, really needed there to be an explanation for why anyone was interested in Mr. Robot with so many superior options available, and we really could have done without the sole female character being a villainess, yet again - but I never once thought to myself "that makes no sense", and there were very few cheap and lazy excuses for drama, and the dialog was good.
I gave the story an 8 - unorignal, but well-laid-out and paced (slow, but it moved in a direction instead of meandering all over the place).
I gave the acting a 7. I thought it was a 9 for everyone else, but Lee Sae On dragged down the average, and he was the main character.
I rated the music a 7. I don't remember any of it, which is good. It did it's purpose and wasn't intrusive.
Rewatch is a 3. I can't imagine why I would ever watch this again - maybe if someone did a Shi Woon cut I would want to see that.
The "suggested overall" was 6.5, but 7 seemed more appropriate - I don't think a series should be too heavily dinged just because I don't want to watch it again.

Revenge Is Sweet…
Screenwriter Kim Ba Da’s revenge-filled drama follows vengeful young woman Yoon Ji Woo ( Han So Hee) who seeks to find and bring to justice by hunting down the murderers of her father ( Yoon Gyung Hoo). Taking up another alias and infiltrating the police force as Oh Hye Jin , Ji Woo’s quest sends her down a dark road with many revelations coming to light.
Whilst the drama does present some prominent messages about corruption and morality both within South-Korean society, the justice system and the police force, the drama itself doesn’t really stray away from the stereotypical reaches of the “ revenge” drama, from Ji Woo’s experiences as an outcast teen to the “ murdered parent” trope soon taking central route before the actual zest of the revenge story crumbling slightly by the midway point . Of course this boils down to the ultimate question; “ is ‘ My Name’ actually worth watching or is it a waste of time?”
One of the strongest virtues of the series came through the acting front of our main cast. Main actress Han So Hee was undeniably dynamic as Ji Woo. Whilst the actress has respectfully formerly come under mixed reception for her role in the controversial Netflix flop ‘ Nevertheless’, Han So Hee reinstates any doubts within her moody, angst-driven and cunning onscreen persona as Ji Woo. As a character, our female lead has two different lives which are both intriguing as one another. On one side it’s easy to understand Ji Woo’s role early on in the series. She’s the “ outcast” and socially isolated from her peers due to her father’s criminal record and past. However refreshingly rather than presenting Ji Woo’s father as a “ heroic figure” in the eyes of a grieving Ji Woo, the series helps to explore more complicated depth to Ji Woo’s emotional state, as well as cunningness and stubborn to enlist help in unlikely places to reenact her revenge.
Helping her along the way comes the merciless and mysterious gangster played brilliantly by Park Hee Soon, Choi Moon Jin. Moon Jin acts both as a major mentor figure and an antagonistic plot foil for Ji Woo by helping to reinvent her identity as Hye Jin as well as hide his own personal motives also . He shares his own reasons for helping Hye Jin / Ji Woo but isn’t afraid to be more brutal or punish those who put a toe out of line.
As Hye Jin our female lead is a talented and a skilled police officer who over the years has not lost her raison d’être for revenge. Her partnership with fellow colleague and partner Jeon Pil Do( Ahn Bo Hyun) presents a great contrast between other relationships in the drama. Bo Hyun plays Pil Do with a laidback yet naturally driven charisma as a hardworking cop. Naturally as he spends more time with Hye Jin he becomes more curious about her identity and motives. Whilst a later plot development was supposed to present a “ moment we’ve all been waiting for” this undeniably felt lacklustre due to lacking screenwriting and bonding opportunities often made revelations between the fall short of plot drive.
Yet ‘ My Name’ isn’t without its more obvious problems either. Pacing could sometimes be a major downfall. Whilst a major drive was evident within Hye Jin/ Ji Woo’s search for her father’s killer, this major plot point felt often rammed into the storyline when it was necessary rather than flowing more coherently within the small subplots which followed in each episode. Evidently another major downfall as a consequence occurred within plot lore and logic with many setups (including early on) often falling short or lacking more depth due to writing and character exploration often falling short. Consequently the ending was overly anti climatic than well-paced or completed with an expected yet abrupt twist which failed to bring a sense of finality or completion overall.
What is refreshing about the series is that it isn’t afraid to trade any punches with presenting brutality in its full glory. Interplayed with moody lightning and a dramatic OST, bloody fight scenes and knife attacks, as well as hallucinogenic palettes of bright reds, purples, blues and golds during drug and dodgy dive raids help to shed a more dangerous and dark presentation of the mysterious underbelly of Ji Woo’s world.
Overall ‘ My Name’ is an odd array of both a highly-talented cast and crew, but often falling short of plot-writing also. The revenge drama was a fairly archetypical approach to the revenge genre; intriguing with many interlaced messages shedding light into corruption, violence and problems in South-Korean society, but sometimes failing to hit the mark with actual build-up . Undeniably a good watch but lacking more finesse in certain areas.

I'm sorry, but I need to like SOMEONE in the show
Maybe I was watching a different show than everyone else, maybe I was in a bad frame of mind, or maybe I just didn't get it, but this show irritated me no end. It was full of unlikeable characters, especially the FL. She was self-centered, self-absorbed, and every other "self" word that you could come up with. This is someone that wouldn't have any friends, because she can't think of anyone other than herself. There was a lot of name-calling, and overall, the relationship between the FL and ML was just toxic. Break up, make up, repeat ad nauseum. Then, at the end, when he is baring his soul to her, she continues to nag him. I just wanted to tell him to run away while he could.I did like the music though.

Sorry but I needa Drop out of this mess.You'll get my initial views as well as my changed views of this drama in this review, I'll try to separate themm.
I gave the acting and cast a higher rating because this is August and Leng's first drama together, so it's understandable that their kissing scenes felt a bit awkward. However, I really wish they had shown some improvement. They honestly need to take notes from the youngsters or recent Chinese BL actors on how to deliver a good kiss scene.
They still could've done much better, honestly their kids scenes looked forced and uncomfortable..
I've watched many historical and time travel dramas, I thought I would get extremely bored if I try this one, I thought it would have very similar other storylines and the actors I thought would not be that professional.
This series is so good, not that different though, but it's watchable and nice, I don't mind watching something similar but not exactly the same..
Even though it's quite similar to Love Upon A Long Time, suddenly after some incident both the characters time travelled to recover the past mystery.
And then fall in love with someone in the past, someone they bicker with..
But honestly I understood stuff in this series much better, it's conveying every stuff clearly, actually LUAT the characters talked in a beautiful poetic harmonious manner, I don't really understand them well so, I wasn't able to understand many parts.
Well, those lines sounded very beautiful but sometimes they were quite hard for me to catch up.
The language used in this series is much more simpler, and the storyline is extremely romantic, the way P'Muen was blushing aww that was so cute, I loved his reactions after getting picked up by Gaew ( Great ) .
They always bicker, and from inside adorer each other..
Great and Gaew do they even have a thing in common except for their faces. I don't think so!
Gaew, something wrong with him, how can he do those things to those people who raised him like their own son. He's arrogant always getting into trouble, bringing shame to his own people.. Getting into fights, troubling P'Muen, arguments with elders, what good about himm

It's so damn similar to Love Upon A Time.
I want more of the main couple really, there are many irrelevant stuff, Great is literally the exact opposite of Gaew, about personality, manners, talking and everything even eating.. Great is extremely perfect to be a member of that family, cooking, medicines he's so good at everything..
I like the way Dech is discovering his own heart, the way he feels his heartbeat and hide his thoughts, even though he likes it he won't ay so instead he would hide them to save his auraa or you can say self respect. He's blushing every time he's around Gaew.
Great is doing so well between them, making the people around so shocked about this drastic change, in his personality.
I loved the funny and detailed description of those chips, it's different and creative, but took a lot of time..
About the servants honestly I secretly ship them, umm they look so good together, their chemistry's fireee, so, I couldn't help myself much. Don't mind me, but I'm already getting a feeling that they'll fall in love and we'll see some of their scenes together.
Lady jumpa is so annoying I know Gaew was type of a thug only butt howw that Great is here she still blames him unfairly, using unfair tactics. She is still picking on Great, aww I feel so bad for Great, he's always trying his best, and I'm sure Dech likes this version of Gaew the best and the most adorable..
I don't know I'm getting kind of evil vibes from that Constantine, he had a very good relationship with Great but looking evil. He killed that person, when Great was asking for his help as he was caged because he was the one who was the biggest suspect of killing that person, I thought he wouldn't help instead put the whole blame on Great only, but I was pretty shocked when he came to confess everything was his doing and Great has nothing to do with it, gave the cops all the truth and got Great out, I didn't expect that much from him though...
The visuals are great and the setting is incredibly beautiful.

Everything was going welll, and suddenly all those unwanted storylines entered, it's nothing but a waste of time..

Oh God, this show was such a mess.To start off with a nicer note, I'll talk about the drama's one and only saving grace: Lee Jun Ki. I am going to be honest, this was my first time watching him, and I was simply impressed. Not only is he a beautiful, beautiful man; he can also act like nobody's business. I also believe that even though he wasn't given much to work with, he tried his level best. And it showed, for the 4th Prince was the only character who I felt somewhat connected to. For me, this was a total case of liking the actor better than the character.
Next, I'd like to come at the people who gave so much flak to IU for her acting. Like, why y'all tripping? I mean her role wasn't even that hard, neither was it anything special. It was the same old 'bumbling, fumbling, self-righteous Mother Theresa level goodness' shebang that we've seen a billion times before. Every other actress in every other drama is doing it. It doesn't even require that much effort and for what it's worth I think IU handled it quite gracefully. People simply want to jump on the bandwagon of the 'singers can't act' stereotype and bash her, while ignoring the other much bigger problems with the show.
Speaking of problems, to be frank, this has to be one of the worst written shows I have ever watched. It's like the author had this vague idea of how to begin and how to end and so she bullshitted through the road in-between.
There is no character development whatsoever and convenient plot-lines are used time and time again to further the plot.
Want to give our hero the run-of-the-mill tragic pariah look?
No problem! Let's riddle him with some mommy issues and a scar to match.
Want to show our heroine change the hero's life by covering up that scar? Alrighty, let's make our heroine a cosmetician!
Want to show that everybody loves our heroine?
Let's make a harem of princes, throw some half hearted moments between them and take a leap; suggesting that they are suddenly so close that they would die for her!
The story is lacking villains?
Ugh, why not just bring back one that we already killed and got rid of before? We will just deem it a miracle of sorts and call it a day. Haha.
Uh oh, did our cranial light bulbs just fuse and we don't know how to prolong the show to 20 fucking episodes?
Nevermind. We always have good old flashbacks to help us through.
God, what a clusterfuck.
Everything was rushed and carelessly executed. They killed people just for emotional appeal. The relationships between characters wasn't fully explored. I mean, do you really expect my peepers to gush a waterfall if you scarcely show me a character; just enough so that he'll be in mind but not enough so that I would actually come to care for him, then in one random episode you show nothing but him and quickly kill him in the next to tug at my heartstrings? Nah boo.
Scarlet Heart was the definition of an ostentatious production. There was loud music flaring up out of nowhere to make scenes more dramatic, over-acting done by a lot of actors and numerous in your face close-up scenes. All these antics did well to suck up authenticity from the show and what you were left with in the end was superficial characters that are only pretty to look at.
Even the 4th Prince had major inconsistencies throughout. Many times, he seemed like a dumbed down version of Bidam from Queen Seon Duk. Thank goodness for LJK and his roguish charm, that he somehow managed to carry the show on his shoulders but ofcourse, one poor soul can do only so much.
The OST while itself brilliant, was also highly inappropriate for the time setting of the show. Do you really want me to swallow that a court lady in 18th, 19th century Goreo would be nodding her head and singing 'My Baby baby boy' in her moving carriage? Sorry, but I'm choking.
The story flows in fits and starts and the poorly executed time jumps don't necessarily help the case. Some aspects of the storyline had so much potential but the writers failed to tap into it. You could say that some scenes were well executed individually but they fell short at fitting together as a bigger picture.
It was crazy how sometimes, so much attention would be given to a supporting role and the main one's would be ignored. Or how important scenes would be inexplicably rushed while things that would be completely random would take up so much screen-time. The jumbled motivations and the fickle thought processes of all the characters reflected the confused mind of the writer.
When a show tries to elaborately sell me the fact that characters can fall from cliffs, get poisoned and stabbed in the heart and still survive, you know what, with some grievances intact I might actually buy it. But when the same show also tries to tell me that someone who got their knee banged up a bit years ago might, out of nowhere, lose the ability to walk or that heart-ache can cause people to have chronic heart diseases, I'm sorry but I'd just have to call the bullshit out.
Even though it was labeled as a period drama, it seemed like a parody of the genre. There were no intelligent palace politics or court intrigue. No cultural focus or attention to detail. All the antagonists were hare-brained idiots and the biggest enemy the good guys had to face was their own stupidity. Needless to say, they lost to it.
I don't consider myself a particularly hard person to move. Often little things touch me deeply and bring tears to my eyes but in this show- all these character deaths and tragedies- all I felt was a vague sense of detachment.
I am not gonna lie, the love story sure was cute. No matter how over-rated they get 'good girl-bad boy' romances will always have allure. And since the romance was all the drama had going for it, I'll give acknowledgment where it's due. There were scenes that made me smile and swoon but they weren't nearly enough to overcome all the weaknesses of the show.
Normally, I would give a show like this a much poorer rating but it's solely because of my love for LJK that I brought it up a notch. Also, I have to say that despite all its flaws, it did make me watch to the end. So all in all, you should enjoy Moon Lovers like you would enjoy a toddler's company: by being indulgent and not taking it too seriously.
