Typical toxic chinese BL...

It ended without much fanfare... While it was interesting in the beginning, it was overly toxic and the redemption arc was not well done. I felt like Mr. Toxic doesn't want to change for real and he still behaves like the asshole he is to anyone not connected to his love-interest.

I can't complain about the production quality, that was very high, even when they used too much blur for my taste in many scenes. So it felt a bit artificial. OST is excellent and the best point of this show.

Besides that I have not much to say. The kissing was lackluster, there aren't any nc-scenes and many say it's an adaption of another work but altered so they don't have to pay for a licence to use it. So that also leaves a bad aftertaste. Overall it's too plain and too ordinary to leave a lasting impression, it's average at best. If you are into the toxic tropé there are much better chinese series than this.

Justice, Education, and Reform: A Different Kind of School Drama

I was initially hesitant to start this drama since it’s about school bullying—a theme that usually makes me uncomfortable, and I generally avoid shows like this. I do watch some dramas with this theme, but only if the first episode manages to pull me in; otherwise, I’m not tolerant enough to continue.

After watching the trailer, I became curious because it approaches the subject in a pretty unconventional way, aiming to educate students rather than just sensationalize the issue. It also gives off a Taxi Driver-like vibe in how it addresses justice and societal issues from a similar perspective.

I watched the first episode and quickly got hooked. One thing I really liked is that the drama handles just one case per episode instead of dragging a single case over 2–3 episodes, which keeps the pacing tight and engaging. It doesn’t dwell on the violence itself, as the team usually intervenes before things escalate.

Tbh, I also couldn’t agree more with an MDL member’s comment: “Although this is far-fetched from reality, it also shows such a radical reform is needed from teachers to parents to students. The very existence of this story shows the failure of the education system.” 👍

So cliché but so cute

June 5, 2026

Duang With You is some cliche romance final boss Thai BL. I am not sure what kind of condition possessed Duang because he is so hilarious. It does not even feel like a drama, it feels like I am watching a sit-com every time he pulls his random antics. I genuinely do think that Duang and Qin is just TeeTee and Por in real life.

Their chemistry is amazing hence why I can see why the ratings for this series is so high. Though, I must say, the plot is doable to watch but it took me a while to finish it. Not gonna lie, I do think the ratings are heavily influenced by the casts rather than the plot. Regardless, it is a cute show to watch and good dose of comedy injected into your veins.

Honestly liked it

This show is pretty refreshing. I haven't watched too many cdramas and this isn't a storyline I have seen before. The actors were casted very well and the storyline is great so far. I think that I would come back to watch this show again. It is slow burn but I love watching the romance blossom between the leads. Also I think the side characters are fun as well.

Amazing acting with some strange storytelling

I miss both couples already, but especially the mains! Both love stories were so emotional and romantic. The chemistry of the first couple is beyond amazing. Their intimacy was unreal. I mean holy damn. I won't recover from that anytime soon! It was hot and so incredibly emotional. Really well done. (If you want a treat, go find the actors reacting to the mains NC scene. It's one of the best reaction videos I've ever seen.)

The second couple is so good to watch too. Their chemistry is also fire. They are more playful but also full of emotion.

Honestly, both couples seemed very confortable with each other, which makes everything better to watch. It feels natural. Thank you actors!

The other characters are also great. The dad, mom, and uncle made me so happy. They were very genuine characters that didnt feel forced.

There were a few weird storylines that were confusing and one or two characters who I didn't think were propely tied into what was happening (and their stories were definitely not tied up).

But overall I liked the story despite the sometimes awkward flow. Definitely watch this one!

He Xian Sheng You Zai Hong Ta De Bai Yue Guang Le (2025) is a romance miniseries with Wang Zilin (as He Huai Zhou) and Wang Yujing (as Shen Si) in the leading couple's roles. The cast did a decent job bringing their characters to life and the leading couple had some cute moments but there was no strong romantic chemistry. The story had some good developments but the romance lacked luster and the end was not only rushed but also unexciting. Is the kind of drama where the viewer feels that something good is coming just to have the leading couple get closer romantically but nothing but a bit of sensuality and not even breathtaking embraces.

Surpassed my expectations exceedingly!!

Oh my - my only gripe is that this needs to be another 5 episodes longer!

I read some comments about how good this drama is but I have been hindered by how tricky it is to source the drama. I have an Iqiyi and Netflix account and I don't really want to start another subscription. In the end I had to use a streamed website ( with ad blocker) which I don't normally used. After finishing I realized I should have just paid to join amazon Prime or HBO. The drama alone is worth a subscription.

This drama deserves a 9 in MDL in my opinion. I think the rating is on the low side because it is so difficult to find it. I watched the ever popular Pursuit with Jades in Netflix prior to SOT and I must say the later drama blew my mind away so much more. The story telling and the pace are brilliant. There were no dulled moments and the story kept me guessing right to the end. Scripts are great and kept the momentum right to the very end. It reminded me of my first time watching the drama Reset. There were no fillers. I love all the actors.

Do watch this. It has surprisingly landed in my top 10 list.

Review of Hana Yori Dango (2005)

The 2005 live-action adaptation of Hana Yori Dango remains one of the most influential versions of Yoko Kamio's manga, but it is not without flaws.

One of the most noticeable issues is the exaggerated acting style. Many scenes are highly theatrical and over-the-top, which can make the characters feel unrealistic. While this approach is common in manga adaptations, it does not accurately reflect how most Japanese people behave in real life.

The portrayal of wealth and elite school life is also heavily dramatized. The extravagant clothing, lavish displays of luxury, and unusual behavior inside the school often feel more like a fantasy setting than a believable environment. It is difficult to imagine even wealthy students dressing and acting in such an exaggerated manner on a normal school day unless they were attending a special event.

Another limitation is the short episode count. With only nine episodes in the first season, the series could not fully adapt all the storylines, character development, and emotional depth found in the original manga. As a result, certain plot points were condensed, altered, or omitted entirely.

Casting was another point of debate among manga readers. Tsukasa Domyoji is portrayed in the manga as an imposing and physically intimidating figure, but the live-action version cast a relatively shorter actor, changing the character's visual presence. While the performance itself was memorable, it differed from many readers' expectations.

The adaptation also delayed certain character elements. For example, Rui Hanazawa's violin playing, an important part of his characterization in the manga, was barely explored until the second season.

Season 2 introduced several original scenes and story changes that were not present in the manga. While some fans preferred a more faithful adaptation, these additions helped keep the story fresh and unpredictable, even for readers who already knew the source material.

Despite these criticisms, the 2005 Japanese version became highly influential. With the involvement of manga creator Yoko Kamio in the adaptation process, it helped establish many of the conventions later seen in subsequent versions, including the South Korean adaptation Boys Over Flowers, the Chinese adaptation Meteor Garden, and the Thai adaptation F4 Thailand: Boys Over Flowers. In many ways, the Japanese drama served as the template that influenced later generations of live-action adaptations.

Overall, while the series sacrifices realism and manga accuracy in several areas, its strong cast chemistry, memorable soundtrack, and lasting cultural impact make it one of the most important adaptations of Hana Yori Dango.

Dark suspense with great characters

There isn't much to add to the story that others haven't already extensively reviewed. Partially because with plots like this one, it's actually better to not read too much about it and just jump right into it like I did. The heavy suspense theme isn't usually my first choice of genres but I really enjoyed the pacing of this one. The highlight here is the complexity of the characters and the choices they make that derive from their own individual desires. The series does a great job zooming in on each relevant character and piecing their pasts to their present. This isn't one where there is a idealistic hero or villain but simply grey areas across the board under various circumstances, which is something I appreciate.

Although the overall theme is relatively dark and moody, they are able to counter it with the lighter moments of the past and the natural humor and warmth from interactions. The relationships between the cast are shown in subtle but meaningful ways and there isn't a need to be in your face about it, which I also appreciate. The underlying mystery of the killer and the past is also done really well because you'll find yourself continuously guessing.

My only complaint is that they made it a bit too over-complex at times and especially tried too hard at the end. They didn't highlight certain characters enough to be clear on who they were and what their role was such as Magistrate Wei's right-hand man. They also didn't conclude Qu Sangeng's role well in the end either. So while I wasn't a huge fan of how they ended it, the journey towards it was still quite enjoyable.

Um drama gostoso de assistir, pois tem cenas perfeitas de lutas, muitas risadas e lágrimas. O elenco superou todas as minhas expectativas. Yang Yang, Alen Fang e Zhang Ruo Nan formaram um trio que ficará na memória por muito tempo. As cenas pós créditos arredondam a finalização do drama. O figurino é bonito e a trilha sonora agradável.

BOYCOTT THIS DRAMA!

Being a regular Kdrama watching fan, it makes me so disgusted and angry that a woman who wanted to live was forced to choose something so heinous. All thanks to that nasty hellspawn that wanted so much money with its crocodile tears and untalented existence that it literally used underhanded ways to silence the officials investigating the case. As a woman with adequate intelligence and logical understanding, would rate this show good only because of powerful actors like Jo BoAh, Kwon Nara, Yoo JaeMyung and everyone else. I feel bad for them but I stand with the decision to cancel this drama permanently until a different male lead is selected.

A Missed Opportunity for True Comedic and Emotional Brilliance

I feel compelled to share my thoughts regarding the casting and character progression in 'Ya Zhai Die Die Bian Wang Ye Niang Qin Ni Bie Yun'.

Specifically, I want to highlight the phenomenal performance of Hong Qiao, who portrays the initial, oversized version of the female lead, Qun Wan Rong Yue.

Hong Qiao is an exceptionally gifted actress who brought an undeniable charm, vitality, and immense versatility to the screen. She successfully broke the typical mold of historical drama leads by embodying a character who is simultaneously oversized, incredibly talented, beautiful, and multi-faceted.

Her screen presence is magnetic, and she handled both the fierce bandit identity and the chaotic motherhood of five children with absolute grace and comedic perfection.

While this is by no means an attempt to underrate Zhou Yi Qian’s performance—who is a capable actress in her own right—the decision by the producers and directors to switch actresses feels unfair to Hong Qiao's incredible acting calibre.

Had Hong Qiao been allowed to continue her journey throughout the entire story as an oversized beauty, it would not have altered the core plot at all. Instead, it would have elevated the entire series.

Her unique dynamic with the male lead (the Prince) and her interactions with the five children would have offered significantly more hilarious, heartwarming, and groundbreaking moments. It would have proven that charisma, talent, and romantic chemistry are not defined by conventional style standards.

The production team missed a golden opportunity to deliver something truly unique and progressive. Hong Qiao’s expressive acting skills deserved to be showcased until the very end, which would have been far more satisfying and entertaining for the viewers.

She is a standout talent, and I sincerely hope to see her leading more dramas where her full range can be appreciated without interruption.

I enjoyed this

There were a few plot twists I wasn't expecting, so I think the writers were on the exceptional side.
cultural ideals were kind of delightful.
There were a few funny moments.
One detractor is that one of the actors took too long to deliver his lines, so I thought "meh"
That's the only detractor.
Otherwise, pretty entertaining and creative compared to other "cultivation" series I've seen.
The camera angles were pretty good, as were the sets.
Kind of got lost on one area, but otherwise pretty good.
I generally don't care for Chinese Dramas, but this was good.
Got me going to the last episode.
