Formulaic execution of one of my favorite dynamics, with a tacked on happy end

I appreciate the sexual chemistry, humor, fight scenes, and opening song as well as the general vibes, but the storyline and crime aspects are weak. No, I don't expect 16 hours of build-up to a cataclysmic revelation that shakes the very foundation of who Chaeha and Taeseon are. In a different story, I wouldn't mind Chaeha jumping in front of a knife for Taeseon at the halfway mark already, and I guess it makes sense on paper why he does it here. I would have enjoyed myself more, though, had the threats been mounting for longer.

As it is, it feels like the writers thought, "Okay, we're at this point in the episode count, so it's time for XYZ sex scene," and "Oh, now this much time has passed, so we need to insert dramatic scene number 5." Like, what? The leads do quite well to very well during these big moments, but... I live for the tension. And for the love of God, let me sit with my emotions and wallow in the pain! I need to be able to kid myself that bad things will actually happen and that the issues will be resolved in the next 5 episodes, not in the next 5 minutes!

This show is off to a strong start but doesn't deliver and honestly lacks creativity (of course, Chaeha gets knifed more than once). It is unfortunate, but having watched Beyond Evil, The Devil Judge, and Hannibal's much more thrilling portrayals of this kind of dynamic, I'm not sold on The Prosecutor's Proposal's version. I read a comment calling this story half-baked, and I regrettably must concur. There's a BL in my future that will do the morally gray-but-also-fighting-for-what's-right-and-definitely-BDSM-flavored "I will die and kill for you"-duo justice, no doubt.

A Story I Enjoyed, But a Drama I Didn't

I dropped this drama multiple times before finally pushing through my usual stop points. I don't often give a show this many chances, but I really like the author whose work it was adapted from, and the premise sounded like exactly the kind of story I'd enjoy. I wasn't sure if I'd been watching it at the wrong times or if I just needed to get through the setup. Neither ended up being the case. This is simply a drama that didn't work for me, even though it had all the ingredients to become one I loved.

I loved the central narrative, found the side arcs interesting and often tragic, and enjoyed most of the cast and their roles. Conceptually, this is exactly the kind of xianxia I gravitate toward. Unfortunately, the execution and pacing never landed for me. The storytelling often felt disjointed, and it wasn't until the end that I understood how all the different threads connected. Looking back, the structure makes sense, but the journey itself didn't feel fluid, making many of the arcs feel awkward rather than naturally woven together.

However, what ultimately ruined most of the drama for me was Yanhui. While I believe the series was intentionally aiming for an offbeat style, her characterization never sold me. The portrayal of her free-spirited, eccentric personality came across more as a baby voice than as endearing eccentricity. A similar approach worked for me in "Love Between Fairy and Devil," but it didn't here. Instead of feeling like a natural part of the story, her performance felt too mannered and stilted, to the point where I found myself speeding up her dialogue just to keep from dropping the drama yet again.

Overall, this drama simply didn't work for me. It had all the elements of something I should have loved, but the uneven pacing, disjointed execution, and my inability to connect with Yanhui ultimately kept me from enjoying it.

Better than initially expected

I was skeptical when I completed the 1st episode, but it picked up and got better. I definitely enjoyed the storyline between Xu Mu and Xie Shi. They did a great job with their acting. As always there were some annoying characters, but overall, I definitely enjoyed this show. I don't know if it falls into the category of me wanting to rewatch it later, but I'm definitely happy that I didn't give up on it after the 1st episode. One of the most impactful aspects of Xie Shi's character for me, was his view on having kids. After 19 years of marriage, his perspective resonated so much with me, because I appreciate the depth of his perspective.

Not bad but typically Japanese unrealistic

I kinda enjoyed the show up to a point. It is so... Japanese !

The conclusion is that it's impossible for the girls to "find happiness" but not for they own faults, but because the script writer artificially complicates the story ad infinitum. As he is probably paid to do. The irony is that even Rinko is portrayed as a script writer for love dramas, and her boss at some point says "nobody will cry over your script - I don't like it". So they make sure WE WILL cry over this one!

For instance, Kaori: at first, all she wants from Ryo is to drop his girlfriend Rina so she can become his "main girlfriend". When this happens at last, and he says he only loves her, she STILL is not happy, because now she finds Ryo too "womanizer" for her taste. And she dumps him a second time a year later, for no clear reason, although he is shown to still love her. Clearly, she is portrayed as a girl who doesn't know what she wants. Either he is the love of her life, or he is not. Nobody knows.

Next, Rinko: her break-up with Hayasaka is also greatly exaggerated. In fact, he lets her go MUCH too easily, and she says nothing, she just picks up her stuff and goes away. But there is nothing in her actions to suggest to him that Key is "her big love" - letting him sleep at her home at the death anniversary (just sleep on the couch, no sex) when he was clearly broken is no big deal! And then, Hayasaka makes up his mind to dump her when he just sees them talking, without any physical contact, on the street. This is not at all serious. Neither Hayasaka nor Rinko seem to have the smallest will to fight for their love. Probably because there is no love. This is not how a relationship is built.

And 3 years later, in season 2 episode 1, Hayasaka has the nerve to tell Rinko that she is the one who dumped him, which is the a total lie (he was the one who refused to sign and who asked to return to their "business partner" status when she was signing the papers to move together in the same house , and then he saw all too well that KEY left the country and had nothing to do with Rinko) .

All 3 girls would easily end up married much quicker in a real setting based on the original show premises. Creating artificial barriers and obstacles was obviously the writer's intent, so that marriage becomes all but impossible. The show seriously lacks consistency between the first episode and the last.

As for KEY, he is an asshole. And it really makes no sense that they say to each other "I like you" reciprocally at some point, and then he is shown to revert to being an asshole to her, for no reason at all.

In fact, all girls seem to easily find relationships, even Koyuki finds men to sleep with. Only she knows why "the next morning she feels lonelier than before" (no real reason for somebody who initially said how cute, how kind the man was).

However, this seems to be the general style of most Japanese love dramas. Even the ones with happy ending take a long time to get to that ending. So basically I can say I LIKED the show. I saw many J-dramas so I know this is their recipe. Period. Just don't make the mistake of rooting for the characters too much. We the viewers are wishing more for a happy ending than they are wishing themselves!

Manga poorly adapted

I enjoyed the manga and wanted to give this a chance but they stayed too close to the book, the over-reactions work in a manga but needed toning down for the realism of a live action, it was very over the top and detracted from the story. This is not a fault of the actors, it was the direction that was taken for the production as far as i can see. I also think the main actors were poorly cast as didn't fit the characters, again they weren't bad actors, it was just a bad role.

My opinion only, if you want a bit of over the top comedy you might like this, i just felt a bit disappointed, although i did like the scenes with the older brother

When Complexity Becomes Clutter

I really wanted to love The East Palace. The first episode sold me on a fascinating premise: imagine John Constantine transplanted into the Joseon era. A protagonist who can confront spirits, travel to the underworld, and investigate supernatural mysteries inside a royal palace sounded like the perfect combination of political intrigue and horror.

Unfortunately, the series gradually mistakes complexity for accumulation.

Instead of developing the ideas it already introduced, the story keeps piling on more spirits, more shamans, more rituals, more hidden villains, and more supernatural revelations. But adding more elements doesn't automatically make a story deeper. It only makes it busier.

The biggest issue is that the supernatural world becomes vague, complicated, and cumulative.

The rules are never clearly established. Even by the end, I couldn't confidently explain what the female lead's actual gift was. Could she see spirits? Was she a shaman? A medium? Did she possess mystical knowledge? The series never clearly defines her abilities or their limitations, and when the protagonist's powers remain undefined, the world's internal logic suffers as well.

As more episodes passed, every new revelation felt less like meaningful world-building and more like another layer added on top of an already confusing mythology. By the time another family member turned out to have supernatural connections, my reaction wasn't surprise anymore—it was exhaustion.

This also hurts the mystery.

One of the greatest risks of combining palace intrigue with supernatural horror is that the audience must trust the narrative's internal logic. Here, that trust slowly disappears. Why spend time analyzing clues if the next episode can introduce another spirit, another ritual, or another hidden character to redirect the story? At that point, the mystery stops being an intellectual puzzle and becomes an act of faith.

The repetitive structure doesn't help either. Investigate a mystery, enter the underworld, fight with a sword, return, and repeat. Instead of expanding the supernatural possibilities, the series keeps relying on the same formula.

What disappointed me most wasn't the ending itself—it was the feeling that my investment of time wasn't rewarded. Eventually, I lost so much interest that I skipped ahead to the final episode simply to see how it ended. That's never a good sign.

The East Palace doesn't fail because it lacks imagination. It fails because it mistakes quantity for depth. A great story isn't measured by how many mysteries, villains, or supernatural entities it introduces, but by how well it develops and rewards the ones it already chose to tell.

Must-watch cdrama packed with twist after twist!

This drama is one of my most awaited to watch and it did not disappoint me at all.

Let's skip the age gap issue because that has been an old news already. The casts proved themselves why they are casted for their roles. If your mindset is mainly looking for that specific 'skinship' who do not care about the plot at all, then I feel so sorry to you for missing out on this amazing drama.

Anyways, I would like to applause and appreciate both Hou Ming Hao and Ai Mi for their amazing and incredible performances for their roles. I never expected to see such an amazing chemistry between the two (despite their age gap). Their acting really feels genuine that even me, as a viewer, felt it and was emotional most of the time. I really admire how they were able to bring that insane amount of tension and chemistry with their amazing eye acting. They are really a seasoned actors wherein you can see how much they poured their efforts and emotions in completing their scenes. I would like to give a special mention on Episode 10 for that legendary and wonderful red ribbon scene. This truly made me feel various emotions that I can't fully explain. I was too happy and overwhelmed to see how well their characters worked together and trust each other.

The scriptwriting is really well written! And if you will say that I am biased (well kind of), but with a great script and how well the casts performed their roles, they would also bring out the best of their characters. Not only that, one of the most important thing is how well each episodes were shown. Cinematography and camera angle wise? It's good. There are certain angles and scenes that I really love seeing especially if you're an observer viewer, you will notice what it was pertaining and appreciate how well it was executed. The editing? It's okay but could be better in some parts. Not gonna lie, since this drama is 'fast-paced' it is expected to have those abrupt scenes and editing where we can obviously see that it was choppy editing. But still, even with those issues, it still manage to make the drama enjoyable to watch.

I am most excited to talk about on how this drama had so many plot twists. I never expected to be surprised, and then get surprised and again and again. You never really expect what will happen next. Starting Episode 4, this is were I get surprised and amazed on how the plot twists are going on this drama. Even in the last episode, there's also a plot twist! I can't explain how much I appreciate the script for making the drama not easily predictable. Even myself, I keep on asking if what the actions of the characters are doing is an act or genuine, or what they are doing is part of the plan or leading to a betrayal. So many things happened and I highly recommend watching the drama to experience the exciting and thrilling I felt.

The insane chemistry of the leads are truly amazing.
The OST are also really good and I truly enjoy listening to it while watching drama.
The plot twists are twisting so prepare yourselves for an intense ride.
And finally, the script is well written, if you want to confirm, watch the drama to see for yourself.

A Complete Disaster: How to Utterly Butcher a Legendary Webtoon

Overall Rating: 2/10 (Only giving it a 2 for the physical casting, everything else is trash.)

If you have never read the original Manager Kim manhwa, you might be easily fooled by this show’s generic K-drama tropes. But if you are a fan of the source material, watching Agent Kim Reactivated is nothing short of painful. What started as a promising adaptation quickly devolved into a slow, heavily padded, and completely unrecognizable mess by Episode 9.

1. Nerfing the Action and Speed
The webtoon is legendary for its relentless, lightning-fast pacing and jaw-dropping, superhuman martial arts. The drama completely stripped that identity away. To stretch the runtime, they injected massive amounts of slow, sentimental melodrama and unnecessary flashbacks. The explosive, high-octane rescue mission was replaced by cheap dialogue and dragged-out pacing just to fit a standard television format.

2. Ruining Ju Gang-chan’s DownfallThe absolute breaking point of this adaptation is how they handled Ju Gang-chan. In the manhwa, his defeat is incredibly satisfying because he is systematically stripped of everything. Once Manager Kim activates his elite connections with Chairman Cho Pyeong-gyeon, Gang-chan's entire financial empire, underworld syndicates, and legal safety nets are utterly crushed, forcing a genuine reform.

Instead, the drama relies on the most frustrating, lazy K-drama tropes imaginable. They turned Gang-chan into a generic political conspirator colluding with corrupt officials. Even after being physically beaten in Episode 9, he is magically insulated and untouchable, resorting to a cheap hostage cop-out with Department Head Nam.

3. Erasing the Lore and LogicBy choosing to prioritize a convoluted political "Special Missions Directorate" subplot over the actual lore, the writers completely erased the terrifying, unstoppable influence of Cho Pyeong-gyeon. The poetic justice of the original story is gone. It is no longer a legendary martial arts retribution story; it is just another repetitive, frustrating bureaucratic drama.

Verdict
The production team treated a masterpiece webtoon as a loose, disposable blueprint just to inject their own generic creative egos into the script. Fast-forwarding through the later episodes is the only way to get through it. Do yourself a favor: skip this trash adaptation and go read the actual manhwa.

The Ultimate LOL Role Reversal Comedy

This series is quite light hearted and funny, and the creators/director have really brought out the spirit of a manga/anime in all its strange weirdness, and I love it. I found myself thinking, there are very few shows that make me laugh out loud, even if I love many of them. This J drama is a rare gem although it goes way downhill in the last 3 episodes because of the female lead and her Debbie Downer best friend. The earlier episodes made me feel joyful just to watch it, even the intro song and their little moves they do- for some reason it makes me happy.. This is the kind of thing I can never find in the West, and why I love J dramas and anime so much. All the characters are a bit cooky and humorous, which makes them quite lovable. I love the characterization of Yamamoto’s protective older brothers acting like parents over him- it’s quirky, cute, and very anime like. Especially that 2nd older brother, the sassy cool Patisserie one Kaoru is straight out of Sailor Moon- he gives me Sailor Uranus vibes.

I should give a 10 just for Yamamoto Chihiro and Akamine. Meanwhile, the female lead, Hayami and the actress who plays her is truly awful - a love pentagon revolving around a female lead who is not good looking and wears mom jeans style pants what on earth. I loved the show, but hated the female lead. She starts off dimensional, emotionally unavailable, and jaded like she doesn’t really care about anything including herself. And she largely remains that way from beginning to end. Shes almost in the wrong show because she’s so dull. All she has is her sales work persona. But Yamamoto is just adorable from all angles- he’s so handsome, so vulnerable and innocent, does all the physical and emotional labor, and his expressions and acting are just adorable. But there’s the whole fan/celebrity vibe in his dynamic with Hayami who he calls senpai, being 7 years younger than her, which is another detracting point from the possibility of a truly equal loving relationship..

But let’s get back to Hayami- I think she’s actually struggling from depression and a deep lack of self love and purpose. She puts on a decently happy face outside, but her house is a disaster and she eats spoiled food, doesn’t clean, or cook for herself. She doesn’t know or care how she feels about anything, and constantly lies about her feelings, and just says “I’m fine” and seems like she doesn’t care about Yamamoto, despite benefitting from his overdoing of all the chores while she just sits around taking advantage. She doesn’t care to know about their “1 month anniversary” which Yamamoto went all out preparing a feast for, and instead invites a colleague to eat the feast that was meant for them. She seems quite callous and empty on the inside like a black hole, confused, self absorbed, but not in a self loving way, but rather in a avoidant, almost narcissistically selfish kind of way. Like she doesn’t care about herself or her own feelings and doesn’t truly care about anyone else either. When Yamamoto leaves, she’s like “Oh well, guess I’ll just go back to the way I used to live,” and starts buying her usual junk. She’s a character that doesn’t really seem to change and doesn’t care either. She offers half apologies, and then runs at the first sight of vulnerability, while firmly keeping the lines of communication closed even when the onus to reach out is on her. Meanwhile Yamamoto, even though he can be a smothering mother type, puts in all the effort, and is typically the one who truly cares about her well being, while she still doesn’t care. But honestly from the beginning, Hayami never even desired to change because she didn’t think anything needed to change- it’s just what she did. She didn’t care if her house was a mess or if it was clean- the only reason she asked Yamamoto for cleaning help in the beginning was to appease her parents. But she herself didn’t care whether she ate garbage or the feast that he prepared. She literally doesn’t care about anything, except her job and maintaining the outer hollow shell. In the beginning she even says “I don’t have anything to offer you,” (except money) and that was right. Its interesting how all the men are so attracted to her outer shell, when she is so hollow and empty inside. Yamamoto makes her life easier by cooking and cleaning, like a live in maid, and asks how she’s doing. But that’s it. She made a sales presentation to Yamamoto’s brothers saying that she would make Yamomoto into a “sales God,” but did nothing of the sort, instead just drove him out while taking advantage of his cooking and cleaning. It’s a weird relationship, but if you reverse the roles, this is how many husbands are to their overworked wives. And this is how many women become attracted to hollow shells, shiny on the outside, but offer them nothing. A shell of a person who despite appearances, has low self worth , who doesn’t care about themselves or others, but is childish and selfish and just takes in the relationship, without giving anything of true value back (apart from a paycheck). To be honest Yamamoto is too good for her- but he’s drawn to her because his own mother was like that, so this is why his brothers have protected him so well, and yet the attraction to the parental wound was still too strong.

When Yamamoto goes to Akamine’s house to “do chores” (lol), Hayami ignores him for the most part, and doesn’t apologize until the other colleague (Koga) suggests it. She has no emotional intelligence, doesn’t care that she drove out Yamamoto, and then at some point drags him out of Akamine’s house by the hand just to ask if he helped her in a sales deal, and then says “I sort of miss you, and I don’t want you at other people’s houses.” Spoken like a man who tries to monopolize his wife for himself right? She says exactly that, “I want to monopolize you, but if you want to stay there I’ll leave,” and then walks away leaving him hanging and needing to do all the emotional work for her. Then she chickens out of talking to the brother/mother-in-law by saying “When I think about it, I’m not sure if I really like him.” I think she likes him and feels possessive in the same one would feel over a vacuum cleaner that does a good job. Not that she’d ever use one of those, though.

The only time where Hayami does any real work is during her birthday camp, when the brother/mother-in-law makes her chop wood, carry water, and all these chores, which is kind of funny. Other than that phase, she is kind of dead throughout the relationship, with Yamamoto having to compensate and pick up the slack.

It’s interesting how all the characters around Hayami are quite dramatic, flamboyant, and exaggerated (not to mention all fans of Hayami), although Hayami herself as the center seems to be quite uninteresting and dull in comparison. I’m not sure if it’s a casting issue but the actress who plays Hayami lacks spirit or vitality in her role compared to the others.. but then again, maybe that is part of her character in the series itself- she is truly lost- putting on an ace sales facade for the world, but an empty shell in her inner life, which is why something seems missing in her. It almost seems like she’s being dragged from scene to scene as an obligation, rather than by any inner spark or passion. It leaves a sorely lacking chemistry between her and Yamamoto or any of the other characters who are bouncing up and down the walls in comparison. They are all compensating for her dullness. But her character itself is like that so maybe it’s not a casting issue. Her focus and priority seems to be on her outward performance and appearance to the company and others, while her inner room/Self remains dirty, ignored, and unkept. To disregard one’s own house to that extent while maintaining an image of outer perfection reflects a profound lack of self care and self love. She’s often clueless about her own feelings and true needs, while her outer veneer remains impeccable. Yamamoto San and everyone else in the office who declared her as the “perfect wife material” is essentially in love with her fake outer shell, while knowing nothing of the true person, who is deeply unloved and uncared for. It’s only Yamamoto that broke past that outer shell and still continues to accept her the way she is, although he’s putting on a performance of his own in order to “earn” her love or acquire her like a toy or possession that he really wants. And meanwhile Hayami has ignored herself and her own physical and emotional needs for so long in the favor of tending to the needs of others that she has no idea who she really is or what she wants. None of this is real love so far (as of episode 4), but certainly it can go past surface superficiality. Let’s see…

I’ve never seen such an animated, vibrant bunch of supporting characters. As mentioned, Yamamoto’s brothers are unique in their characterization and lovable, even the office staff supporting characters are good looking and likable. Then there is Akamine San, the diva like villainess (almost seems like the author of the story itself, she says a line in episode 10: “Since I’m the writer, I can create one wave after another!”) who’s in HR, but her entire persona is an HR violation. With an aggressive crush on Hayami, she is quite entertaining in all her little schemes, while remaining thoroughly lovable and attractive which is rare and difficult to do in such a role. She lit up the screen every time she came on, and I was intrigued to see what facial expressions would come out of her next. The only supporting character who was rather dull was Hayami’s cafe owner friend, who was a perpetual downer. She, like Hayami lacked vitality or spirit in her role, and when I see the contrast with the other characters, it becomes very obvious. Somehow whenever I saw Hayami say “Daijobu da yo! /I’m fine!” With a facade while hiding her true feelings, it annoyed me. I guess, something about her (and her friend) is not likeable like the others. She actually seems disingenuous, fake, and inauthentic, while totally lost on the inside. She really doesn’t have it together at all in any way. Her dad captured it in the most LOL line at the beginning, “We were so worried that you’ll end up dying alone in a pile of trash!”

With all that said, the love “confession” and first kiss were actually really sweet, where for the first time I saw Hayami putting in effort (physical and emotional), not by force, but from her own inner feeling. I think the camp scene was the first turning point of the series, showing a real change in our main character. And from this point outwards (episode 6 onwards, my poor assessment towards Hayami shifted slightly.

But then episode 10 comes around and when poor Yamamoto fails an interview, but makes a feast anyways, and says he wants to continue being serious about their relationship and to get married. And what does Hayami do? Instead of being supportive of him, she acts like marriage is a shock (so what is she dating him for anyway?) and breaks up with him and says she’ll stay at someone else’s house and then goes with Koga like she has fallback options when one falls through. What is wrong with this character?! Her behavior is so irritating. Why can’t she openly communicate what’s wrong or show basic human empathy and affection instead of just breaking up when the poor guy just failed an interview. Man she’s so callous and cold. And then she can’t even do a 5 year old’s level of cooking and cleaning, that Yamamoto has to take on all the housework because she’s so useless despite her “trying so hard” and burning all the vegetables and throwing everything in the kitchen sink and messing up the house, while falling asleep in front of her laptop while the kitchen burns. And then she pouts to Yamamoto saying “I tried so hard, but it’s impossible.” And he’s wondering how she’s so awful at housework despite “trying really hard.” And of course she goes back to “let’s break up.” She’s an awful partner. She puts in zero effort and destroys everything and then breaks up without mutual consent, despite Yamamoto carrying the whole relationship. Then she goes around saying “We broke up - when she just gave up on the relationship because she ruined everything, and acts like everything is fine with her usual fake facade. Then sobs at home as if she’s the victim when she’s the one who ended the relationship and threw Yamamoto away. Then she does the usual trope of the mad dash to the airport before Yamamoto leaves and then gets there panting and puffing and says “Have a safe flight.” And he’s like “Uh is that what you came all this way to say?” And that’s it. That’s the extent of her communication skill. Shes an awful, awful character. She’s back to zero in my books. Yamamoto deserves better. Sadly his script dictates otherwise.

All the usual J drama tropes:
-Love triangle revolving around the female lead: In this case, more like a love pentagon. One of the love interests in a previously known dude from childhood or college or coworker.
-Lead has not had a relationship in a long time and acts like they have no clue how all this dating romance game works. Acts like she’s never seen a pot and pan in her life.
-As soon as love is confessed and locked down, the ex shows up with a “cut music” and echo of footsteps.
-Onsen intimacy
-An amazing job opportunity requires one to go for a training or whatever somewhere else which causes a temporary separation.
-An impeding temporary breakup over some stupid miscommunication turned catastrophic because the immature female lead refuses to communicate openly
-Backup romance prospects on the bench are called up to bat
-Some airport scene where people are running to catch the person before they go to America or (insert far off place here) for a “1 year training trip” … if they go, the relationship is on pause until a year passes by in 5 seconds and they pick up where they left off as if nothing and no one has changed.

I took off some acting points because of Haru and her character.

Hayami “is fine” after not seeing Yamamoto for 8 months and stayed busy at work. Seriously why is she in this relationship? And why is Yamamoto so “in love” with her? If he didn’t have that strong parental wound with his mother, this relationship would have ended long ago!

Rewatch value is actually a 10 for all the characters except Hayami- but since Hayami is the main female lead, I had to reduce the rating on that too.

Watch it for the chemistry - Don't watch if you hate plot holes

Good things:
The main leads had great chemistry and made the most of the material they were given. The younger actors also delivered strong performances and were convincing in their roles. Several supporting characters had enough depth to feel like real people instead of being one-dimensional. The drama started off on a strong note. The story of the young couple learning that family isn't always defined by blood was heartfelt and engaging. Everything was working well until the major incident shifted the story.

What didn't work:
Unfortunately, poor editing and numerous plot holes in the second half undermined what had been a promising drama.

- If accounting audit teams have to go undercover and risk their lives investigating crimes, they might be in the wrong profession.
- Ms. He's and Chen Yi's sacrifice to protect the illegal ledger felt unnecessary. In the end, saving it had no meaningful impact on the story, making her death seem pointless.
- There's a scene where Tu Li meets with Ce Yen, but the audience never learns what they discussed or how it affected the plot. It felt like the editors forgot to remove an unfinished plot point.
- Too much screen time was spent on characters who added very little to the story, particularly the mother. The drama seemed to expect viewers to sympathize with her by the end, but it never earned that emotional payoff.
- Country Jin is repeatedly described as a dangerous and terrible place, yet the audit team later talks about vacationing there. The drama never clearly establishes what Country Jin is actually like or explains what Chen Yi did there beyond fighting, making the world-building feel inconsistent.

This drama is seriously overrated.

This drama is seriously overrated. I don't understand why it's so highly praised. maybe for the teen generation

I agree with the reviewers who share the same opinion as me.

My biggest issue is the casting. On screen, the male lead comes across as younger than the female lead. I'm not talking about their real ages I'm talking about how they look and feel on screen. Since the story is supposed to portray the male lead as older and the female lead as younger, that dynamic just doesn't come across visually.

Because of that, the female lead's childlike behavior although it makes sense for her character, who is younger and dependent on those around her ends up feeling more cringe than believable. I think the pairing would have worked much better if she had been cast opposite a more mature-looking male lead. The casting simply doesn't fit the story.

Another thing that bothered me was how, the moment they found out they weren't related by blood, romantic feelings seemed to appear almost instantly. There was almost no time for emotional conflict or adjustment, which made that transition feel rushed and unconvincing. 

I noticed this in the very first episode, the moment the male lead made his entrance. Right away, it felt like the pairing was off for the concept the drama was trying to portray. By the end of the episode, there was already a hint of romance, but it just didn't work for me.

The first episode itself was hard to get through.

Well, I gave it one more episode, and the second episode still didn't convince me. Sometimes, you just shouldn't rely on ratings. This drama is genuinely overrated and overpraised.

This got me back into Thai BL!

I actually really enjoyed **Khemjira**
It was such a refreshing change from the usual cookie cutter school BL dramas
I loved the ancient curse, paranormal, and spiritual elements—they made the story feel unique and kept me invested from beginning to end.

Another thing I really enjoyed was that I didn’t know most of the cast.
The only familiar faces for me were Net, Nammon, Mark, and Jab, who all appeared in guest or cameo roles.
Going in without knowing the main or supporting leads made the experience even better.

It’s been since **The Next Prince** that I’ve truly loved a Thai BL. For years they were my go-to, but I felt like they lost a bit of their spark for a while\. Recently, though, I’d been hearing that the newer dramas were getting really good again, so I decided to give them another chance.

First I watched **Love Upon a Time**, which completely won me over. Then I moved on to **Khemjira**

Two incredible dramas back-to-back! I’m so happy to see Thai BL finding its magic again, and I can’t wait to see what I watch next.

I like the lovely fat couple a lot.

First, when I started watching this show, I had a negative feeling, because the female protagonist was the liar about her health, and a lot of negative stereotype about people with obesity. I do not like the way some people in the real world look down fat people. However, later, both fat characters got better role, and for me, I think both are very cute. And something I do not like about this show is that there are too many many scenes with cats. It's unnecessary. Without cats, the plot could be still the plot. There is no reason to add too many cat-related things into the story. I also saw the same actress holding cats in other shows too. In some show, she also wore a cat mask. Next time, I will avoid watching the show intensively about cats.

The Xu Kai Rabbit Hole Started Here

Although it's been years since I watched Arsenal Military Academy, it's still one of my favorite Xu Kai dramas and one of the first titles I recommend to anyone exploring his work. Arsenal Military Academy revolves around the classic "woman disguised as a man" trope, yet it executes it surprisingly well. Bai Lu's portrayal of Xie Xiang is genuinely convincing, making it easy to believe why those around her never suspect her true identity.

Xu Kai absolutely shines as Gu Yanzhen. He perfectly captures the character's arrogant, playful, and reckless personality while gradually revealing an unexpectedly sweet side once he falls in love, making him incredibly endearing. Watching him slowly realize his feelings for Xie Xiang and awkwardly navigate falling in love is easily one of the drama's biggest highlights. Looking back, I can't blame fans for becoming obsessed with Xu Kai and Bai Lu. They complemented each other so well on screen that it was almost impossible not to ship them. Their chemistry wasn't forced, it simply clicked. And let's be honest, Xu Kai's visuals were absolutely unreal in this drama (!!!).

The story is entertaining, the military academy setting feels refreshing, the cross-dressing trope is executed well, and the chemistry between the leads is simply the icing on the cake.

Better than I thought

TLDR: This is good :).

Has been looking for a good rom com for a long time and found this gem. Actually saw the trailer a while back and during that time I've watched How Dare You and really liked Wang Churan so wanted to give this a try. But at that time it wasn't released yet and tbh the trailer didn't really captivate me. Plus the ML and the cast is quite foreign to me so i eventually forgot about this.

Recently started to look for a good rom com again and finally decided to give this a try. And i am glad i did! It turned out to be the kind of rom com i like with a bit of fluffy-ness.

Story/plot: Probably nothing new and has probably been done many times. It's your typical ML and FL had misunderstandings from the beginning and somehow dislikes each other. But yet are forced to deal with each other daily and eventually become friends, and eventually falls in love.

I will say the bread and butter in this drama is the interactions and scenes between the ML and FL. But surrounding that is also a lot of plots, etc related to their work. Like the investments, etc. I've seen some people dislike it, but i personally didn't mind it.

Cast: It's my first time watching Tian Jian Ci. I usually have a hard time with unfamiliar faces in dramas. But i grew to really like him as i watched the drama. I see some people comment that he carried the drama with his acting, etc and i kind of agree. His acting was really good and a pleasure to watch. I really hope to see him in more dramas and roles like this.

For the supporting casts, tbh some of them was a bit annoying and hard to watch at the beginning, so i mostly skipped them. Especially scenes with Jun Cheng and Dang Yu. He was just a very annoying character in the beginning. But eventually he grew up and it was later quite pleasant to watch them.

Otherwise in general the other supporting casts are good and quite liked watching them. For example Yao Jing Jing and Lu Ze. And even Fang Yun and Liao Shi Yu.

Won't mention the FL since i liked her before i watched the show.

Rating: I will give this a solid 7.5. I will say i am giving this a bit of a lower score, not because it's not good, but because of different factors like story/plots, etc I don't think this deserves an 8+. But I will say this was a very pleasant watch and I would rather watch this than a lot of dramas rated 8+.
