10/10 Perhaps this year's K-trauma
South Korea are masters at delving into emotions and relationships between people, and when they succeed, as in this series, no one stands next to them.
The series is honest and vulnerable about how we live with trauma, which survival strategies we use and how we protect ourselves.
The main characters are two young adults who fill the entire series with their stormy, charming and tragic lives. Woo Do-hwan and Lee Yoo-mi have a good chemistry, and she rises against his masculine radiance, something not everyone can master, think.
The balance between them is fine, and intensity and depth come across in a touching way. The film jumps a bit in time, and at the beginning the communication and behavior between the main characters was a bit uncomfortable. This was quickly cleared up because they know each other well from before, and when they meet again they continue roughly where they previously left off. But now life has become even more complicated for both of them.
The series is bittersweet and with humor, hope and action.
Love is stronger than death, and there is nice symbolism. Mr.
Plankton says that plankton is at the bottom of the food chain - at the lowest level in the ocean, and I thought about how much a human can endure before we burst. Mr.
Plankton thinks of the bonds of heaven, and I can feel in my heart the longing and fear that lies behind it.
It is good that obvious clichés are avoided and that 30-year-olds dont behave like innocent teenagers. Certain scenes could have been shorter, but it still gets a 10 because the story and authenticity triumph throughout the series.
Once again: Cheers South Korea, keep making these amazing series that take us on adventures and grip our hearts. Thanks to everyone behind the production.

A New Low for Me (to finish watching this)

*note: I have never watched any other version, since others saying this is a “Marry My Husband “ remake, so I don’t have anything to compare

I thought Samantha’s role in Queen of News was interesting (kind of grey character) so I was interested to see this one where she is the FL (I also watched her in the variety show Joyful Grownups 2 and found her charming there). I am a native Mandarin speaker but my ancestral homeland is south enough (and dialect close enough) that I can reasonably understand Cantonese. But I don’t know if it’s a cultural thing or what but this story was just way too out there.

I get that she “travels back” to before she marries that gross Mark but just how much does she need to put up with?!? I guess that’s the beauty of this is to show anyone (male or female) that being a pushover does you no good. Also the show spent too long on the Ryan crushing on FL (I think they keep spelling her name Senna), that was just completely unnecessary. I did like in her “second” timeline that she was able to show up that stupid Sherman multiple times, from the classmates’ reunion to even her wedding (who was the one who told Sherman’s mom? That’s still a mystery to me). Her blaming Senna for her miscarriage was just the ultimate pinnacle of despicableness (thanks Sherman’s mom for once). Finally she gets fired.

The worst is the ending. Although Sherman finally does the right thing in the end, you don’t know what happens to her after she’s in the coma (she is now penniless and a vegetable). That despicable Mark is also not (yet) punished by the law but you only just know he is chased by the creditors. Although big bro finally “turns around” in jail, that was just way too easy. ML and FL are finally together but so lame - the only kiss the entire show was that accident from many episodes ago. Even the villains got so much more action than they did.

That ending song was horrible and really grated me (hence just one star for music). It was just so corny!

I do regret watching but unfortunately I am a never dropper so had to finish (also hated the speed these episodes came out). Better off watching Queen of News or Themis.

Hou Minghao gives one of his strongest performances yet. He brings a quiet confidence to his character, balancing composure with vulnerability in a way that feels natural rather than overly dramatic. He doesn't have to rely on grand gestures to make an impact; the subtle moments, lingering glances, and restrained emotions say just as much. His presence anchors the series, especially during the tense political confrontations where every word matters.

Aimi is one of the drama's biggest surprises. At first, she appears gentle and unassuming, but as the story unfolds, she reveals remarkable intelligence, resilience, and emotional maturity. Rather than being defined by her relationship with the male lead, she actively shapes the narrative through her own choices and convictions. She balances compassion with determination, making her someone easy to root for. Her growth feels earned, and by the end of the drama, she stands out as a capable and memorable heroine whose strength lies not in physical power, but in her courage, wit, and unwavering sense of justice.

While romance is certainly present, it never overshadows the drama's true focus. Instead, it develops organically amid the larger conflicts, complementing the characters' journeys rather than defining them. Rather than forcing moments that would have felt inappropriate, the drama builds its central relationship through trust, mutual respect and meaningful conversations. The emotional connection becomes far more important than physical intimacy, allowing the romance to develop naturally within the story's political backdrop. The casting is one of the drama's greatest strengths. Every actor feels perfectly suited to their role, bringing distinct personalities and believable motivations to the screen.

By prioritizing intelligent storytelling, morally complex characters, and formidable women who shape the course of events, Key to the Phoenix Heart delivers a richly rewarding and entertaining historical drama.

A Promising Premise with Flawed Execution

The Human Vapor is a reboot of the 1960s film of the same name. I haven't seen the original, but the drama leans heavily into a retro aesthetic through its cinematography and costumes. I initially found this confusing since much of the story takes place in the modern era.

From the trailer, I expected a violent, gory crime thriller centered around The Human Vapor. Instead, the violence is surprisingly PG-13, and the titular character is criminally underutilized. Rather than driving the story, The Human Vapor is relegated to a supporting role and used as a pawn by others. The plot instead focuses on conspiracies and revenge with predictable storylines and character arcs. Honestly, I felt a little bait-and-switched. The story is also bogged down by questionable writing and character decisions. Some choices are so illogical that they made it difficult to take the plot seriously.

The Human Vapor's origin story had a lot of potential. They could have easily made him the driving force behind the murders, but instead, the story takes a more convoluted direction that ultimately pulls the spotlight away from him and puts it on a dislikable female lead. Despite everything she does, she still gets a relatively happy ending that, in my opinion, isn't deserved. Oguri Shun's character is similarly frustrating, spending most of the series doing very little of consequence.

The drama is the most interesting whenever The Human Vapor is actually involved. I also enjoyed the streaming sibling duo's storyline, which I found to be the most compelling part of the series. There are also unexpectedly funny moments that caught me by surprise, which felt like such a Japanese touch to me.

Overall, The Human Vapor had an intriguing premise, but it ultimately feels like a missed opportunity. The drama is still a decent watch, but it definitely didn't meet my expectations.

A true Treasure Hall

Words might not be enough to describe my love for this show.
I already had watched the Donghua, which is one of my favourites and I rewatch episodes of it over and over.
Searching for Ya She's OST music, (which is fantastic, check it), I accidentally stumbled on The Company's trailer. It looked like it took a different route from the Donghua, so it didn't catch my interest at first. Then after over a year I stumbled on the show itself and recognised it from that trailer, while looking for something else. So I thought of giving it a shot.
As I figured from the trailer, it was quite different from the Donghua, but not in a bad way. It was something new, a different premise, but so truly interesting and fascinating! But while the story resembled more Link Click than Ya She, with only one arc being common but still altered from the Donghua, its core essence is similar, as it combines, wisdom, beauty in aesthetics, enchanting music, tragedy, comedy, horror, loyalty, wholeheartedness and a deep dive in the Chinese culture.
But something that is unique to this Drama, aside its breathtaking acting, cinematography, setting and costumes, is how instead of falling to the Western cliches, it defies them and takes a different approach, much more sentimental and intriguing. As for the plot twists...they are truly a chef's kiss and the entire idea behind the biggest one is uniquely brilliant!
While I was watching it for the first time, I started to slow down because I didn't want it to end... and when I finished it I started to rewatch it again with my brother. I only suggested him to watch the first episode with me, but he got hooked and now he can't get enough of it. Even when we watched together The Untamed, he wasn't that invested. Imagine that yesterday he got back from a trip to another country and the first thing he told me was to watch Ya She! And I couldn't be happier because I was already missing it these few days we didn't watch it XD
Ya She is one of my favourite shows of all times. Not just Asian Dramas but in general.
And I hope more people discover and love it as well.

wow good drama

Okay, I just finished watching the whole thing, and honestly, I really liked it. It lived up to the synopsis and context—and even exceeded my expectations. It really surprised me; it’s been a long time since I watched a dark romance like this, especially one involving a homophobic family. Also, a special shout-out to the OSTs—they are so good! The lead actors are excellent; their acting is top-notch, and their crying scenes are incredibly convincing. I’m not a huge fan of the supporting characters—like his brother and the other guy, I don't know, I just didn't care for them much—but otherwise, I really enjoyed the drama. It’s definitely one of the BLs that has left the biggest mark on me over the last two years. The story is impactful in both good and bad ways—what an emotional rollercoaster! I’m speechless; I’m genuinely impressed by the story and how they managed to adapt so much material into just 12 episodes.

Enjoyed the investigation

I really like these 2 in My Stand In, one of my favourite shows, thats what pulled me to this show. I really recommend it, the romance is great, the investigation keeps you interested although it's fairly obvious and slightly predictable progression.
I was excited for the parental side of the show, but this was fairly weak and felt more of an adorable prop, would have liked to see more family time, so if your wanting to watch for a slice of life BL raising a family you might feel a bit let down, but this is a dynamic of the show.

Honestly just a good easy watch that i didn't find myself getting bored or wanting to skip through, had some heavier moments, but not overly tense.

A story about loyalty and new beginnings ⭐️

I really loved this drama, I devoured all 32 episodes and wasn’t disappointed at all.

For me all the episodes were very cohesive and strong. To telo the truth the only reason why I didn’t grade it as a 10 was because I was expecting a little more in the end of the show.

I though the end was congruent with the show as a whole, but I think my expectations were a little high about a marriage in the end 😅 The fact that It didn’t end this way doesn’t ruin anything for me, but it kept me with a feeling that something was missing.

Furthermore, i really liked the side characters, especially Yi’s friends and “Uncle Zhou”. I was really sad about the end of Wen, but I also thought was beautiful the development of the grieve and the conclusion of a path for Zhou.

About the love story with the main characters I really don’t have words to describe it. They delivered everything: chemistry, cute scenes, loyalty and so much more. There were a lot of memorable scenes between the two of them, and they’ve a couple that will stick with me.

My opinion about ML's character

I started this drama because of the second couple, i loved their dynamics and they were my main motivation to finish it.
(Second couple are my biological parents btw, I don’t make the rules.)

The drama was actually very good, it was very easy to watch, with the right amount of romance, politics and harem elements. The side characters were well written and easy to love. The main couple was also cute.
Overall, i liked it and gave it a rather high rating.

There’s just one thing that baffles me.

Why is it that i saw few negative comments about the female lead’s cold personality and her not reciprocating ML's feelings sooner but I haven’t seen a single person talk about the ML's pushy side?
Its crystal clear the male lead is devoted to his partner and has everything planned out for her and does his best to ensure she’s happy and safe that makes him a green flag in many ways (and i love his shamelessness) but there were clear moments of him being pushy with fl and not respecting her boundaries.. while watching i found those scene quite uncomfortable but i didn’t pay it much attention since she acted okay afterwards,
But I just don’t understand why this flaw of ml is overlooked but the fl being cold towards everyone equally and not falling for ml at first sight is considered such a horrible thing?
And regarding the ending,
I’ve always thought a drama needing comments from other watchers or reading a novel to make the audience understand the plot better means it was incompetent in communicating its story clearly.
I finished the drama and had to spend an hour going through all comments from mdl and twitter just to understand wth was happening in the final episode.
This is just my opinion about some aspects of the drama otherwise it was a good drama and I quite enjoyed it.

I am challenged by this series

I’ve written many reviews and this how challenges me so much that I wrote this one episode before it ends. I’m genuinely struggling to decide how I feel about this series. Even after eleven episodes, I’m still undecided whether I like it or not, and perhaps that’s part of what makes it so intriguing.

Deep In explores actors wrestling with deep psychological issues while asking an interesting question: how much of a character eventually becomes part of the actor portraying them? Years ago I had the opportunity to speak with a well-known actor about this very subject. When I asked whether playing certain roles affected him personally, he simply replied, “How could it not? The characters we play eventually become every bit a part of who we are.” That conversation stayed with me, and this series attempts to explore that idea through its “show within a show” narrative.

I’ve always enjoyed stories that blur the line between fiction and reality. When executed well, they become fascinating character studies. Unfortunately, Deep In isn’t always successful because the performances don’t feel equally matched.

Ollie, despite being only twenty years old, appears more comfortable inhabiting both of his roles though struggle with his youthful looks. Although this may also be Shu Yuan’s first major acting role, his inexperience is more apparent. There are moments where he feels self-conscious rather than fully immersed in the character, creating a disconnect that weakens the emotional foundation of the story.

If viewers are simply looking for another BL romance, attractive leads and fan service may be enough. But in today’s crowded BL landscape, that’s rarely enough to make a series memorable. What separates a great drama from an average one isn’t how many romantic or intimate scenes it contains, but whether the emotions feel authentic. A passionate kiss or an NC scene may quicken the pulse for a moment, regardless of whether it’s a straight or gay romance, but those moments fade quickly. What remains are the quiet, emotionally truthful performances that stay with you long after the credits roll.

I don’t watch BL because I want attractive actors paired together. I watch because I want to understand the people they’re portraying. Genuine chemistry comes from believable performances, not simply from fan expectations or carefully cultivated “shipping.” Great actors create emotional connections that transcend the genre itself.

Perhaps that’s why I’ve grown increasingly critical of the BL industry as a whole. Thai BL, in particular, has become an effective launching pad for young actors, but the industry’s reliance on fixed pairings and fan-driven shipping can also become limiting. Watching the same couples play variations of similar characters eventually loses its novelty. Variety challenges actors to grow, while repetition often breeds complacency.

Another challenge Deep In faces is its casting. The story asks very young-looking actors to portray characters with emotional maturity beyond their years. Ironically, I think it may have been easier for older actors to play younger roles than for these youthful actors to convincingly portray older, more psychologically complex adults. Their performances are sincere, but I was never entirely convinced by the illusion.

What I do appreciate is that the series isn’t afraid to explore uncomfortable ideas. What happens when an actor’s role begins to reshape his own identity? When actors genuinely fall in love because of the characters they portray, does it last? The show even touches on morally complicated territory that invites discussion or arguments rather than easy answers. Whether viewers accept these probably depends on how willing they are to separate fantasy from reality.

With one episode remaining, I’m still undecided. I admire the ambition behind Deep In far more than I admire its execution. Perhaps the finale will bring everything together. For now, I’m left appreciating the questions it asks more than the answers it has given.

a village full of stories

i really wasn't prepared for how much xiao fang would end up meaning to me. going in, i expected a cute rural comedy, but it turned into something so much deeper and more emotionally resonant than i ever imagined.

the story follows fang, who becomes pregnant before marriage, and how that one event sends shockwaves through her family and the entire village. the drama uses her story to explore generational expectations placed on women. through three generations of the women in her family, we see how each of them faced similar societal pressures, yet responded to them in completely different ways. it's such a thoughtful look at how times change, but certain judgments still linger.

beyond its central story, it also explores emotional neglect and absent parents trying to make up for lost time. it doesn't treat forgiveness as something that's automatically owed. the hurt is given space to exist, and the characters are allowed to feel angry, resentful, or hesitant before they're ready to move forward.

the humor is where the show truly excels. i wasn't expecting to laugh nearly as much as i did. the village setting is packed with nosy neighbors, overly enthusiastic matchmakers, and all the chaos that comes with a close knit community. even when the drama tackles difficult topics, the comedy keeps it feeling warm and comforting instead of overwhelming.

visually, it's absolutely gorgeous. every countryside shot feels so peaceful that it genuinely made me want to pack my bags and move somewhere rural just to wake up to those views every morning. in an era where so many productions feel rushed or visually uninspired, i really appreciate the amount of care that went into the cinematography <3

i also have to give so much credit to the supporting cast. every character is given room to grow instead of existing solely to support the leads. even the people who seem frustrating or narrow minded at first gradually reveal why they think the way they do. nobody is painted as purely good or purely evil, because real people rarely are.

overall, this has been one of the easiest 10/10s i've given in a long time. i honestly don't think there's been a single boring episode. it's funny, heartfelt, beautifully shot, and filled with characters that feel like real people rather than fictional archetypes.

Un potere che sboccia... E che presto appassice. Tra valido intrattenimento e potenziale sprecato.

Se ci rifacciamo al titolo, “Blossoms of power” è certamente un drama al quale non mancano né le questioni di potere né la componente floreale (fiori nelle poesie, fiori disegnati, fiori infilati tra i capelli, fiori salvavita, fiori che sbocciano e appassiscono in una notte, fiori in vaso che si rovesciano mentre i due si baciano, fiori ricamati, fiori che danno l’insonnia). Tanti fiori, insomma. E anche una “fioritura” di potere, certo, poiché questo è il nocciolo del drama.

Partiamo dagli aspetti narrativi che più ho apprezzato: la questione della fusione di anime e in un corpo altrui, elemento sì caratterizzante ma non oggetto di un focus eccessivo, risultando così interessante ma mai pesante o ingombrante. Tratto originale è l’aver ereditato, insieme al corpo di Shen Xi He, anche tutti i suoi ricordi, particolarità che non solo funziona molto bene ma che evita anche banali fraintendimenti e altri meccanismi già visti mille volte. Ad arricchire la storia ci pensano inoltre i molteplici intrighi di palazzo, che rendono pienamente l’idea di dinamiche complesse e creano una rete di conflitti e alleanze in continuo mutamento. Sono davvero tanti e non tutti necessariamente collegati direttamente al pairing principale: per una volta, insomma, almeno una parte del mondo non ruota attorno ai protagonisti.

Valida anche la caratterizzazione dei personaggi: abbiamo a che fare con una protagonista femminile forte e determinata, che non cerca il grande amore della sua vita né qualcuno che la protegga o che si spenda per il suo bene, bensì la piena libertà di essere – nel bene e nel male – autrice del proprio destino. Sul fronte maschile, il principe ereditario Xian Hua Yong è uno splendido concentrato di contraddizioni affascinanti: cagionevole ma abile nelle arti marziali, astuto stratega ma anche giovane dal cuore puro, abile manipolatore e teneramente vulnerabile allo tempo stesso. Un personaggio davvero sfaccettato, capace di rimarcare costantemente la propria identità – intesa come caratterizzazione - con un semplice sorriso complice o un finto colpo di tosse. La chimica tra i due rende vivo il loro rapporto, costruito su astuzia e rispetto reciproco, tant’è che quando cominciano a fare squadra, la carrellata di sguardi complici e i dialoghi sottili danno al drama una marcia in più.

La buona riuscita dei personaggi è sicuramente più merito del cast che della sceneggiatura. Apprezzo Meng Zi Yi fin dalla sua prova in “Ever night” risalente a quasi una decade fa, anche lì nei panni di una donna forte e determinata. La sua recitazione elegante e raffinata si sposa particolarmente con ruoli decisi e composti, nei quali non deve continuamente dispensare sorrisi o lacrime, ma dove la difficoltà sta nel far emergere il personaggio nonostante l’aura di algidità e l’atteggiamento da glaciale calcolatrice. Riesce a far coesistere con grande naturalezza l’anima di Gu Qing Zhi con il corpo e i ricordi di Shen Xi He. Per quanto riguarda He Yi Qin, sarò onesta: non mi aveva particolarmente colpita in “Speed and Love” e la sua presenza in questo drama era più un deterrente che un incentivo, ma devo ammettere di essermi ricreduta strada facendo. Intendiamoci, non lo metterei nella rosa degli attori più talentuosi – c’è ancora molta ma molta strada da fare – però in questo drama porta a casa una prova dignitosa che, nell’insieme, funziona e fa il suo dovere. A livello espressivo trasmette in modo credibile una buona gamma di emozioni. Tra i personaggi secondari, gli attori che a mio avviso hanno centrato in pieno il personaggio sono senza ombra di dubbio Xu Zheng Xi nei panni del Quinto Principe e Cao Wei Yu nel ruolo del sovrano. Quest’ultimo in particolare ha dato vita a un personaggio ambiguo, che si prestava credibilmente a più interpretazioni e alimentando così il costante dubbio nello spettatore. Passando ai personaggi secondari – dove spesso così secondari non sono – tutti i principi hanno, ognuno a modo suo, una ragione di esistere, anche se in alcuni momenti le loro storie sembrano più un esercizio di stile che parte integrante della trama principale. Bene che ci siano, ma si potevano gestire meglio, insomma. La coppia formata da Bu Shu Lin e Cui Jin Bai è una ventata di aria fresca, con una dinamica divertente e una chimica accattivante che ruba la scena in molte occasioni.

Non tutto, però, ha funzionato a dovere. I primi episodi tengono alta l’attenzione grazie al ritmo serrato, ma al contempo chiedono anche un po’ troppo. Una sfilza di personaggi vengono introdotti a raffica ed è davvero facile andare in confusione, soprattutto per quanto riguarda i principi, tutti con nomi simili. Per distinguerli ho dovuto affibbiare loro dei soprannomi, per cui il secondo era “L’inconsistente”, il quarto “Il rancoroso Sacrificato”, il quinto “Il devotamente Ossessionato”, il sesto “Il Bello perso per strada” e il nono “Il Guerriero infatuato”. Dovessi etichettare anche il protagonista, la scelta ricadrebbe su “Il Fulminato”, perché è l’aspetto che più mi è saltato all’occhio quale pecca di un personaggio che per il resto funziona. Questo perché il l'essere rimasto affascinato dalle abilità e dall'acume di FL, innalzata per questo al suo livello, avviene comunque in modo troppo repentino, proprio come un fulmine a ciel sereno. L'ammirazione diventa in breve un misto di amore, devozione e rispetto e da lì poi inizia un lungo corteggiamento, un gioco di scacchi sentimentale che può anche starci, ma l’inizio partita è stato davvero un po’ troppo brusco e affrettato. Per quanto abbia apprezzato la protagonista femminile, se la forma è risultata splendida il contenuto si è rivelato un po’ carente, nel senso che ci troviamo davanti a una donna ferocemente intelligente, capace di destreggiarsi con sicurezza tra le insidie della corte e che sa cosa vuol dire perdere tutto. Manca però una motivazione profonda a questa sua sete di potere, tant’è che il dolore e la sua determinazione sembrano più raccontati che sentiti. Questa cosa del "raccontare invece di mostrare" si ripropone più volte, in vari contesti, durante la serie, quale limite evidente e anche piuttosto noioso. Qualche perplessità sull’epilogo del pairing secondario, piuttosto banale, moscio e deludente. E' stato un po' come avere tra le mani una materia prima di qualità e non sapere bene come trattarla. Si poteva fare molto ma molto di più, e la coppia, per come la si era portata avanti, meritava davvero uno sforzo maggiore. Riguardo agli intrighi, dicevo all’inizio che è un bene che siano molteplici, poiché sarebbe stato semplicistico e ridicolo far ruotare l’intero drama intorno a un unico ostacolo. Il ritmo dell’intreccio politico è però altalenante e, dopo un buon avvio, incappa in una fase centrale di stallo, permeata da troppi momenti di vita quotidiana piacevoli ma non così necessari, aspetto che porta lo spettatore quasi a dimenticarsi del mistero dell’avvelenamento, questione che verrà ripresa in mano solo nell’ultima parte e liquidata in fretta e furia, con una rivelazione che arriva come un pugno in un occhio (poteva starci benissimo, idea anche intelligente, ma gestita davvero coi piedi).

Ultima nota dolente, il finale: per un’amante degli happy ending come la sottoscritta, la dipartita del ML a quattro o cinque episodi dalla conclusione è davvero un colpo basso. Non mi fa impazzire, non è gratificante, ma posso accettarlo, se ha senso. Però patti chiari e resti morto. Il ritorno dal nulla dopo anni nell’epilogo è davvero una caduta di stile, una scelta che vanifica tutto il pathos precedente e che manca sostanzialmente di coraggio. E no, non è una sorpresa inaspettata. Solo la presa in giro di una sceneggiatura che, nell’indecisione, ha voluto mantenere il piede in due scarpe. Peccato che così facendo nessuna ha calzato in modo giusto.

Dal punto di vista tecnico, siamo a un livello qualitativo medio-alto con una cura quasi maniacale per i dettagli. La fotografia è splendida, con una palette cromatica calda e autunnale che avvolge ogni scena in un'atmosfera sognante ed elegante: i toni dorati e ambrati, caricati del giallo intenso delle foglie di Ginkgo biloba, dominano le scene di corte, creando un senso di opulenza e intrigo, mentre le tinte più cupe e fredde accompagnano i momenti di tensione e pericolo. La luce, spesso soffusa ma prevalentemente naturale, esalta la bellezza dei costumi e dei volti degli attori, regalando immagini nitide e pulite. La cinematografia compie scelte interessanti: non si limita a inquadrature statiche, ma gioca con movimenti di macchina che seguono i personaggi nei loro intrighi, creando un dinamismo che riflette la complessità della trama. I campi lunghi mostrano la maestosità delle architetture e dei paesaggi, mentre i primi piani catturano ogni sfumatura espressiva dei personaggi nei momenti salienti. La regia mostra una mano sicura e una visione chiara, riuscendo a bilanciare i momenti di intimità romantica con le sequenze più epiche e politiche. Il montaggio segue un ritmo disomogeneo, soprattutto nella seconda parte, ma funziona a dovere nei primi episodi e sicuramente nei vari momenti clou. Scenografia e costumi meriterebbero un capitolo a parte: la meticolosità è impressionante, ogni drappo, gioiello o ricamo sulle vesti contribuisce a definire il personaggio stesso. Anche la colonna sonora, con il brano di Zhou Shen in testa, è di altissimo livello e sottolinea perfettamente i momenti più emozionanti.


In conclusione l’ho trovato un drama complessivamente meritevole. La sua forza risiede nella peculiarità dei suoi protagonisti, con una chimica di coppia che funziona, un valido cast di supporto e una produzione visiva di tutto rispetto. Il tallone è – come spesso accade - la sceneggiatura, incapace di sviluppare adeguatamene e con i giusti tempi molte dinamiche. Adatto a chi è alla ricerca di un drama storico che dia priorità al romance e ai personaggi carismatici, meno per chi auspica a una trama politica solida e corente dall’inizio alla fine. Valido intrattenimento, ma gli è mancata qualche carta per essere qualcosa di più.
