The Power of Love in the Face of Illness

I've just finished this drama, and I can't stop thinking about how beautifully written it is. It shows just how strong a person fighting an illness can be when they are surrounded by people who love them. I adored everyone—there were no villains, just deeply 'human' people staying close to someone they truly care about.
I completely understand why Lin Tuo wanted to keep his parents, his friends, and especially An Zhique in the dark about his illness. The mere thought of feeling 'useless' and 'sick'—and above all, the fear that others would 'sacrifice' their normal daily lives to care for him as he gradually lost his independence —triggered a defense mechanism. It made him believe that by avoiding them and phasing himself out of their lives, both they and he would be 'relieved.' But love doesn't work that way; it doesn't fade so easily.
As the drama highlights, staying by the side of a loved one who is ill—no matter how much you love them—is a heavy burden, especially psychologically, and even more so when dealing with a degenerative disease.
I loved how the show paid so much attention to Lin Tuo's perspective. He found the courage to let go of the thought of ending his life (feeling like 'there's no point in living like this') and chose instead to truly live (even if it just meant enjoying a single meal) for the sake of everyone who loves him, even knowing the disease would eventually take over.
Obviously, the paralysis is the most 'visible' turning point, but the tracheotomy was no less significant—it was an even more courageous choice. In the final episode, when Lin Tuo gives his speech for the anniversary of the university where he and Zhique studied, you can see how much he struggles to speak. Yet, it's that exact courage and will to live that keep him from feeling ashamed and "showing" himself; instead, he uses the moment to raise awareness about these terrible diseases and the desperate need for targeted research to find therapies that can slow down their effects.
I also adored Uncle Guo's character, who 'delegated' to Lin Tuo the task of managing the support chat for patients and their families—a space to motivate each other, share experiences, and find strength.
In short, this drama isn't your everyday show because it touches on a very delicate subject: health and coping with illness. Angels Fall Sometimes is a masterpiece from the very first episode to the last.

4. The sudden invitation to dance in front of everyone at the ending without even having a proper talk about what they are and the fact that they haven't spoke for a while, all that and still smiling in the dance like nothing happened
5. That obsessive girl who originally dances with ML, something about her obsess just doesn't click for me

The East Palace Is Basically Stranger Things Meets Kingdom

The East Palace felt like Stranger Things and Sweet Home meeting Kingdom. It blends the eerie supernatural mystery and creature horror of the former with the engaging palace drama of the latter, creating quite unique and thrilling experience. While the first half felt a bit underwhelming despite its fast pacing, the second half completely transformed the drama into perfectly gripping, edge of your seat thriller.

Funnily, it wasnt the ghosts or supernatural creatures that scared me the most, it was the humans, especially the royal family, who would stop at nothing for power and the throne. They didnt even spare their own flesh and blood. Even after causing so much destruction, their greed never stopped. Despite facing the consequences of their actions, they kept going until the very end and even then they never changed. They remained completely consistent with their characters, which i found to be one of the most fascinating aspects of the drama.

Also another favorite aspects of the drama was its world building. It established two parallel worlds, one inhabited by humans and the other by ghosts, spirits, supernatural creatures and powerful beings known as the Realm of Gwi. I really loved this concept. The two worlds mirrored each other while remaining completely separate. Ghosts and spirits existed and operated within the Realm of Gwi and the protagonists had to enter that realm themselves in order to confront and eliminate them. The concept was executed really well. The Realm of Gwi gave me strong Stranger Things and Sweet Home vibes, while the palace politics, royal conspiracies and historical setting reminded me of Kingdom. The drama really felt like a perfect fusion of both.

Both protagonists find themselves trapped by the big bads of the series and are left with no choice but to fight these supernatural beings to survive. What i also liked was that almost every major character outside of the protagonists existed in morally grey territory or was outright evil. Whether it was the King, the Queen Dowager, the King's biological mother, the Crown Prince or the other royals, nearly all of them were consumed by power to the point where they wouldnt even spare members of their own family.

Cho Seung Woo's character was particularly fascinating. He was the King of the nation yet completely rotten to the core. However, there were moments when he displayed genuine human emotions, making him a surprisingly layered and interesting character.

The drama also didnt limit itself to traditional ghosts. It introduced several unique supernatural creatures and i found them quite interesting. I especially loved the little Labubu like creature that constantly clung to the ML and saved his life in several critical moments. It was both cute and hilarious.

The production quality absolutely deserves special praise. The cinematography, camera work, direction, visual effects and overall atmosphere were all fantastic. Many scenes set inside the Realm of Gwi and throughout the palace were visually stunning. The eerie lighting, haunting environments and beautifully composed shots made both worlds feel immersive and unforgettable.

The acting was another major strength. The exorcism sequences, horror moments, emotional confrontations and action scenes were all very well performed. Several scenes actually gave me goosebumps because of how convincing both the performances and direction were.

If I had to criticize one aspect, it would be the first half. It wasnt bad by any means but compared to the second half, it felt relatively tame. The lighter comedic moments early on slightly reduced the tension and made it harder to fully invest in the story. However, once the second half began, the tone became much darker and more intense. The drama started delivering one plot twist after another. Although a few twists were predictable, the execution, pacing and presentation made them consistently exciting and entertaining.

The ending was satisfying. Both protagonists got a happy ending and most of the villains were punished for their crimes. The King, however, was spared. Initially, i expected him to die but keeping him alive actually made sense within the story. Removing him from the throne would have created political instability since there wasnt a suitable successor. Instead, his punishment was arguably even worse. The final scene reveals that the countless vengeful spirits would continue haunting him for the rest of his life, forcing him to live with the consequences of everything he had done.

Overall, The East Palace absolutely lived up to my expectations and didnt disappoint me at all. While the first half was somewhat dull, the action packed second half more than made up for it with its engaging narrative, thrilling plot twists and satisfying payoff.

Siparietti teen: tra cybersecurity, propaganda, culto di Li Xian e sceneggiatura improbabile

Immaginate il mondo della cybersecurity competitiva:gli "hacker" che sfondano il sistema attaccando i nodi, i tornei internazionali e una delle attrici più amate della Cina, insieme a Li Xian. Ora,prendete tutto questo e usatelo come sfondo per una ragazzina che, dopo aver visto un uomo in un internet café, decide che sarà l'amore della sua vita per capriccio, gioco o necessità. Immaginate anche la voce narrante nel 1ºep., quella della protagonista che presenta l'opera, e dice che se non si fossero incontrati quel giorno le cose sarebbero andate diversamente, e tu pensi WOW, salvo poi rincontrarli all'aeroporto e alla cena di capodanno con le famiglie (ma come alla fine si sarebbero rincontrati altre 3 volte!!!!). E lì capisci che gli sceneggiatori non si sono impegnati molto!!!

Benvenuti in Go Go Squid! (che anche se il titolo inerisce il nickname della protagonista, riguarda Li Xian e la sua crescita, i cinesi quando scelgono i titoli inglesi li estraggono da una bowl, ne sono convinta).
L'idea , quella dei tornei In ambito informatico, il CTF (Capture The Flag), ossia una competizione di cybersecurity in cui singoli o i team competono per trovare stringhe di testo nascoste, chiamate "flag", all'interno di sistemi vulnerabili o software, è persino intrigante. Finalmente un drama che esce dalle solite aziende milionarie e dai chaebol per raccontare un ambiente poco conosciuto. Pensi: "Finalmente vedrò strategie, hacking, competizioni, dilemmi tecnici... parallelismi tra l'informatica e le relazioni".
No!
Ho visto principalmente persone che cliccano furiosamente sul mouse mentre lo schermo mostra finestre nere piene di codici, mentre uno speaker parla di sicurezza, attacco, 3 vs 1, 5 vs 1 e via dicendo. Per il resto puoi tranquillamente immaginare ciò che avviene ( e non avviene così nella realtà!Resa irrealistica per rendere tutto scenografico).
Il problema non è nemmeno la tecnica o che non si parli poi approfonditamente di CTF. Il problema è che il contesto viene sfruttato pochissimo. È un fondale narrativo, non un motore.
E così rimangono i siparietti romantici (se hai più di 15 anni potresti annoiarti, specie se non hai tempeste ormonali in corso).
Tong Nian si innamora di Han Shangyan con una velocità che farebbe impallidire Cupido. Lui passa metà della serie a respingerla educatamente prima e ad allontanarla poi, l'altra metà a comportarsi come se fosse innamorato senza però ricordarselo quando ha 5 minuti liberi.
La serie continua a ripeterti che Han è profondamente innamorato e te lo mostra tramite qualche premura, regali che mostrano più goffaggine sociale che reale interesse( non sa come spiegarle che la collana di cui lei si appropria da ubriaca non è per lei ma è della matrigna, è un malinteso, le regala una ps4 e decine di giochi ma lei non gioca ...). il problema è che le azioni non convincono e neanche i personaggi che avvisano che è innamorato.
E quando finalmente decide di cercarla... lo fa quasi sempre perché la trama ha bisogno che succeda qualcosa.

Il loro rapporto nasce da un malinteso, scritto malissimo (vengono scambiati per una coppia e lui per non controbattere agli anziani e non dare l'idea di essersi approfittato di una ragazzina non nega, il che è assurdo perché è proprio il negare che toglierebbe ogni dubbio su ogni eventuale esecrabile profitto, non confermare come invece accade); prosegue attraverso altri malintesi, si interrompe per un sacrificio degno di una telenovela (lei si vergogna di essersi ubriacata e lo lascia, del resto e tutto finto ma per 3 episodi la vedrete piangere come se fosse stato vero). Si riparte con lei che cerca ogni scusa per avvicinarsi a lui e soffre e si dispera, e lui che la tratta malissimo ma se la porta dietro.
La cosa incredibile è che anche se inizialmente è una finzione per uscire da una situazione scomoda lei non spiega, finge di essere la sua ragazza e ci crede davvero, si comporta come tale, lo lascia; piange, e si dispera manco fosse vero.
Inizialmente viene presentato un conflitto che sarà al centro dell'opera e del trauma del protagonista: la scelta un decennio prima di sciogliere il team e ritirarsi prima di concorrere per il titolo mondiale e dare legittimità a questo sport e onore al paese (questo è un drama di propaganda). Immaginerai chissà quale stronzata ha combinato Wang Hao (SOLO), e Han Shangyan,che viene descritto come un uomo rigidissimo e intransigente, ha del rancore incredibile e reputa Wang Hao il solo responsabile (quando a me è parso l'unico martire). Scoprirai, e qui la sceneggiatura, tocca l'acme di assurdità che Solo aveva abbandonato per assumersi le proprie responsabilità di padre (di una bimba disabile tra l'altro). Chapeau. o_O.
Peccato che si può scendere ancora più in basso, con le assurdità, perché lo stesso Shanhyan assume come manager del proprio team... la madre della bambina avuta proprio con Wang Hao e che affidandola alle cure paterne ha determinato lo scioglimento del team. La coerenza evidentemente era in ferie.
Lo stesso vale per il lato tecnologico:abbiamo davanti un campione mondiale di cybersecurity. Uno capace di violare reti, analizzare vulnerabilità e competere ai massimi livelli ma non sa creare un account su NetEase Cloud Music o bloccare un contatto su WeChat. Ha bisogno dei suoi ragazzi per registrarsi.
Nel 10° episodio un personaggio viene aggredito, Han è seduto su una scala a meditare. Lei urla. Lui aspetta. Continua a urlare. Lui continua a meditare. Poi, improvvisamente, come se qualcuno avesse gridato "Azione!", si alza, corre, colpisce un aggressore. Cambio inquadratura. 2 secondi dopo ha in mano un manganello.
Yaya e Xiao Mi, con pochissime scene, riescono a trasmettere una chimica migliore della coppia principale. Lui combatte con la perdita di fiducia in se stesso, lei avrebbe potuto rappresentare la persona capace di ricordargli il suo valore. Sarebbe stato un arco narrativo bellissimo. La sceneggiatura, invece, preferisce dedicare altro tempo ai flashback del Team Solo e all'ennesimo equivoco sentimentale dei protagonisti, risolto ballando come i bambini in un vicolo.

Anche visivamente il drama si difende. La scenografia è molto curata, il cast è piacevole e Li Xian ha un carisma che spiega buona parte del successo della serie.
Il problema è che, a un certo punto, ho avuto l'impressione che il drama fosse più interessato a costruire il mito di Han Shangyan che a costruire una storia coerente attorno a lui. In ogni scena, dal personaggio principale all’ultimo comprimario di passaggio, sembra esserci qualcuno pronto a ricordarci quanto sia geniale, affascinante e irresistibile il “Dio Gun”. Il suo aspetto fisico viene celebrato con una frequenza quasi parossistica; la serie sembra voler imporre allo spettatore una percezione di straordinarietà attraverso la ripetizione insistita, invece di lasciarla emergere naturalmente, ammesso che si possa fare ( Li Xian ha carisma, fascino, aura ma non è una bellezza).
Viene spontaneo chiedersi se alcune di queste scelte servano a rafforzare l’aura quasi mitologica del protagonista. Considerando il successo enorme ottenuto da Li Xian, l’impressione è che questa glorificazione sia stata costruita in modo studiato per trasformare Li Xian in oggetto di culto.
💕Relazione principale: un uomo di 29 anni e una ragazza di 19 ma che ne dimostra 9. La FL, nel suo settore professionale, matura, brillante e spigliata; in amore, invece, sembra lobotomizzata. Non mi riferisco al vestiario, che ha una sua funzione narrativa: il rosa, i pupazzi e lo stile "bambina" contrapposti al total black di Han Shangyan servono a creare un contrasto visivo e una coppia immediatamente riconoscibile, quasi iconica, oltre a dare un'aura romantica e sognatrice. Mi riferisco all' atteggiamento quando è con lui, alle smorfie, ai dialoghi vuoti e a una serie di comportamenti che sembrano appartenere più a una bambina che ad una giovane adulta.
Mentre la serie spiega in modo sufficiente perché Han Shangyan finisca per affezionarsi a Tong Nian, non riesce mai a spiegare davvero il contrario. Lei si invaghisce di lui nel giro di pochi minuti e, da quel momento, sopporta qualsiasi cosa: freddezza, rifiuti, umiliazioni e atteggiamenti da perfetto tsundere. Non mi è piaciuto il rapporto che costruiscono, perché non si basa su nulla di concreto. Manca il dialogo, una reale conoscenza reciproca e, in diversi passaggi, manca anche il senso logico. Il risultato è una relazione poco matura e, francamente, poco sana.
Lo stesso discorso vale per Yaya, i dialoghi che le vengono affidati la fanno sembrare una decerebrata. Peccato che anche lei frequenti un dottorato in Intelligenza Artificiale con progetti in ambito forense.
È uno di quei personaggi che vengono completamente svuotati di complessità e spessore.

Questo drama è un enorme contenitore di cliché. A parte i triangoli amorosi, che almeno evita, troverete praticamente tutto: la madre ostile, l'amico innamorato,conflitti inesistenti creati dal nulla per allungare la storia di 3 episodi, il protagonista perfetto e bellissimo che si innamora della ragazza "normale", lei innamorata di lui senza un vero perché, la cina dei B movie ci crede davvero: "l'amore non ha spiegazioni"!
Per me, inoltre, questa è anche una serie fortemente patriottistica. La protagonista si chiama Tong Nian, letteralmente "bambina", e come una bambina viene trattata per tutta la serie. Non è una mia interpretazione: lo spiegano più volte gli stessi personaggi. La manager dice chiaramente Su Cheng che Tong Nian rappresenta il tipo ideale di ragazza perché è "ingenua, pura, senza significati nascosti". Persino la madre insiste continuamente sulla sua innocenza. Il messaggio è evidente: il modello femminile proposto è quello della ragazza pura, paziente, che sopporta, non crea problemi e perdona sempre.
Han Shangyan la tratta male? Lei resta.
-La respinge? Lei aspetta.
-Torna da lei? Lei lo accoglie sempre a braccia aperte.
Questo modello della donna che sopporta lo tsundere di turno, spacciato per romantico, mi ha infastidito parecchio. Riconosco però a Yang Zi un grande merito. Era già un'ottima attrice e, rispetto a lavori successivi, qui costruisce un personaggio molto diverso: una ragazzina adorante, ingenua fino all'esasperazione e a tratti persino fastidiosa.
Tra i valori che la serie ribadisce continuamente c'è anche quello dell'onore nazionale. Portare lustro alla Cina diventa quasi un mantra. Han Shangyan lo ripete fino alla nausea e, successivamente, Tong Nian finisce per ripetere gli stessi concetti quando li spiega al nonno, come indottrinata.
Molto bella, invece, la relazione tra Han Shangyan e il nonno. I loro dialoghi sono tra i pochi momenti che alzano davvero il livello del drama.
Sul fronte delle interpretazioni, Yang Zi e Li Xian sono convincenti e sorreggono gran parte della serie. Gli altri, invece, sono decisamente più altalenanti. L'attrice che interpreta Ai Qing, per esempio, mi è sembrata molto debole. La scena in cui si asciuga i capelli facendo quelle smorfie estasiate sembrava uscita da una produzione amatoriale.
Hu Yi Tian, invece, qui mi è sembrato più a suo agio che negli storici, dove comunque è uno dei migliori nelle scene d'azione. Il ruolo qui richiedeva soprattutto presenza scenica più che padronanza. Continua però ad avere una certa inespressività che alcune sceneggiature riescono a nascondere e altre mettono inevitabilmente in evidenza.

Go Go Squid! è un drama di conflitti irrisolti. Ogni membro del Team Solo vive prigioniero del proprio passato; fanno eccezione Ai Qing e Ou Qiang, gli unici che sembrano aver raggiunto una certa serenità. Tutto questo viene raccontato attraverso continui flashback che, dopo un po', diventano ripetitivi. Qui la serie avrebbe dovuto osare molto di più.

41 episodi mostrano un'evoluzione dei personaggi che procede per scatti anziché in modo graduale, compromettendone la credibilità. Avrei preferito vedere una protagonista che cresce davvero, invece di una groupie a tratti tenera ma spesso patetica e irritante; un protagonista con motivazioni più solide per giustificare un odio durato 10 anni; una madre e una zia meno inflazionate (tipica stronze da drama), una maggiore attenzione alla vita dei ragazzi del K&K, visto che solo Demo riceve un minimo di approfondimento, anche la gestione del divorzio dei suoi resta superficiale e poco convincente.
Sul finale migliora e riesce a coinvolgere di più ma continua a trascinarsi dietro problemi strutturali che ne limitano la riuscita. La serie risente chiaramente di tagli in fase di montaggio, di un abuso di flashback — stesse scene vengono riproposte addirittura anche 4 volte — e di una gestione poco soddisfacente delle storyline secondarie, molte delle quali non ricevono un vero payoff emotivo. È il caso di Yaya e Xiao Mi: dopo averli fatti mettere insieme, nell'ultima puntata lui festeggia con il resto del gruppo mentre lei è completamente sparita, proprio nel giorno che rappresenta l'inizio della loro relazione. Anche Solo ottiene una conclusione, ma sostanzialmente da solo (un nome, un presagio) mentre Ai Qin e gli altri personaggi vengono lasciati in sospeso. Lo stesso vale per gran parte dei ragazzi del team: conosciamo davvero pochissimi membri della squadra e persino Wu Bai finisce incredibilmente sottoutilizzato.
Anche alcuni passaggi risultano poco credibili: Grunt viene escluso dalla finale per un'ulcera ma qualche ora dopo è già sugli spalti a fare il tifo, fresco come una rosa, senza che venga data alcuna spiegazione. È una di quelle scorciatoie narrative che spezzano completamente la credibilità, portando all'incredulità.
La sceneggiatura dedica uno spazio enorme e ridondante solo alla storia d'amore e al trauma irrisolto di Han Shangyan con Solo e con il vecchio Team. Quel passato viene raccontato, spiegato e ripetuto fino allo sfinimento, sottraendo tempo prezioso allo sviluppo del presente e degli altri personaggi. Di conseguenza, molte dinamiche rimangono appena abbozzate e il finale lascia sensazione di incompiutezza.
Anche l'evoluzione del protagonista convince solo in parte. Il cambiamento è così improvviso e concentrato negli episodi finali da risultare quasi miracoloso, come se la sceneggiatura avesse deciso di accelerare tutto all'ultimo momento. Viene spontaneo chiedersi se siano stati eliminati passaggi importanti in fase di montaggio oppure se sarebbe bastato ridurre buona parte dei continui ritorni sul passato del Team Solo per lasciare respirare maggiormente la storia presente.
Ci sono poi dettagli difficili da ignorare: in una delle tante scene costruite per esaltare Li Xian, il personaggio canta accompagnandosi con la chitarra durante un giro nei canali a Guizhou, ma il lip sync è vistosamente fuori sincrono e si nota chiaramente che la voce non è la sua. Lo stesso accade con Yang Zi durante la competizione per la sigla del torneo: inizialmente sembra essere lei a cantare, ma pochi istanti dopo, quando la scena vuole suggerire che ritrova l'ispirazione pensando a lui, il timbro cambia completamente. La voce diventa quella di Lara Liang, riconoscibile per una coloritura timbrica più ricca. Sono dettagli che danno un'impressione di poca cura.
Non è una brutta serie, ha momenti piacevoli, 2 protagonisti che funzionano e riesce anche a emozionare nel finale.Il problema è il montaggio è spesso discutibile, la scrittura ridondante, molti personaggi sacrificati e i dialoghi, soprattutto nella componente romantica, risultano spesso troppo infantili; con una sceneggiatura più equilibrata e un migliore utilizzo del tempo a disposizione avrebbe potuto essere superiore.

Pas mauvais, à voir sur sa suite…

L'intrigue est bonne, mais la narration la rend difficile à suivre, car tout semble décousu. J'adore l'angle d'approche de ce petit thriller. Les informations sont dévoilées progressivement pour préserver le mystère, et certains personnages sont assez étranges pour mettre sur la piste, mais le format est ridiculement court.

En revanche, le dernier épisode perd toute sa tension et son atmosphère pour finir sur une note terne et prévisible. Le mot de la fin ? À suivre… Les personnages sont bons, bien que les acteurs manquent parfois de naturel.

Certaines histoires ne sont pas faites pour les courts formats. Unfold en est la preuve. Sur une moyenne de 18 minutes par épisode, plus de 7 sont consacrés aux génériques. Une série de quatre épisodes aurait permis une meilleure immersion, évitant ainsi les coupures toutes les dix minutes.

Unfold se termine sur un cliffhanger qui ne laisse guère de doute quant à une suite. À voir si elle pourra être aussi convaincante.

Dreams, Destiny, and Difficult Choices

I had heard about **While You Were Sleeping** for years and knew it was one of those dramas people constantly recommend, but I honestly wasn't expecting to enjoy it this much. What surprised me most wasn't the fantasy element or even the romance. It was how incredibly well everything fit together. Fantasy, legal thriller, mystery, romance, comedy, and suspense all exist in the same story without one genre overpowering another. Every episode introduces a new case while slowly connecting everything into a much bigger picture, and it never once feels messy or overcomplicated.

The writing is easily the strongest part of the drama. Every case matters, every character serves a purpose, and every decision has consequences. Nothing feels like filler. The dreams are more than just a fantasy gimmick; they're used to explore whether fate can really be changed and what people are willing to sacrifice to protect others. I also loved that the legal cases weren't simply there to create suspense. Each one challenged the characters morally and emotionally, making the story much more engaging than a typical courtroom drama.

One thing this drama does exceptionally well is its characters. Every major and supporting character feels important, and no one exists just to move the plot forward. Hong-joo is one of those female leads I immediately liked. She's compassionate, proactive, and determined without the drama constantly trying to convince us she's "strong." Jae-chan's growth from an inexperienced prosecutor into someone willing to fight for what's right feels natural and believable.

And then there's Woo-tak. Jung Hae-in completely stole every scene he was in. I honestly found myself looking forward to his appearances just as much as the main leads. He was kind, dependable, funny, and impossible not to love. I'm also really glad the drama never forced an unnecessary love triangle. Instead, it gave us one of the healthiest friendships between the three leads, and I appreciated that far more than forced romantic conflict.

The romance is sweet, but what kept me watching was everything happening around it. The friendships, the legal cases, the moral dilemmas, and the mystery were always the driving force. That's something I really appreciated because many dramas lose momentum once the couple gets together, whereas this one remained interesting throughout.

The cinematography is another highlight. The dream sequences are beautifully filmed, with creative camera work and a color palette that perfectly separates dreams from reality without feeling overdone. Even years later, the production still holds up remarkably well.

If I had one criticism, it would be that some of the connections between the characters rely a little too much on coincidence, and parts of the shared backstory felt slightly predictable. But honestly, I enjoyed everything else so much that it never really bothered me.

Overall, **While You Were Sleeping** is one of those dramas that simply gets almost everything right. It has an original concept, excellent writing, memorable characters, meaningful friendships, engaging legal cases, and just the right amount of romance. More than anything, it's a drama that keeps you invested because you genuinely care about every person involved, and that's what made it such an enjoyable watch for me.

The class is now in session

Love Class 3 was such a great watch. I enjoyed every second of it. The episodes were short, but honestly, I didn't mind because by now I've kinda gotten used to it. The plot isn't super complex, but I think it was well done.

My boys Yun Sooan and Lee Jaemin went through so much. Getting kicked out of the survival show for reasons that weren't even in their control? Devastating. Obviously, Kim Hyeonjae felt so much guilt for debuting without Yun Sooan. And Khun faced toxic stans who were fine doing whatever as long as they felt like they could claim ownership. All of them eventually came together to debut in a new group, but it didn't work out.

I love that this series didn’t shy away from exploring the dark side of the K-pop industry whether it was bribery, using a trainee for clout, leaking news for their own benefit, failing to protect idols, tossing them out when they're no longer profitable, blackmail, or treating them like straight-up products. These are things we see daily in the real K-pop world. I have receipts and examples for everything I just mentioned, but I'm not gonna get into all that though.

Shoutout to the actors because knowing some of them are actual real-life idols made the performances hit way harder and feel so real.

Both couples had unique dynamics, and I honestly liked both of their storylines. All the actors did a phenomenal job, the chemistry was definitely there and it was incredible. I liked the kiss scenes and NC scenes a lot too.

Also, all the OSTs were straight-up no-skip masterpieces that perfectly captured every single emotion of the series. They really did an amazing job.

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter how complex or simple a story is. What matters is: did you enjoy the series, were you entertained, and will you watch it again? And for me, it's a hard yes to all three questions.

Wow.

I truly love TutorYim, they are my gay uncles like I love them with all my heart. Their acting is so good and they are sooooo handsome omg.

But what was that storyline?! Where are we going to? That was shitty as hell, and that was just sex selling. I kinda regret watching this, I literally lost two days.

The worst thing for me was that Erng wanted to be called wife, sweet, cute, petite… that was cringe asf. I mean, you are a man and I’m here for gay couple. Not for a mid gay mid straight. If he wanted to be a woman I would be ok, but that was just for the couple to be straight and I hate that.

36 Episodes to Fall in Love, 5 Minutes to Undo death

I am so tired.

The premise is actually interesting soul merge, two warring families, political intrigue, a princess navigating a court full of snakes. On paper this should be compelling. In practice I am watching a girl make a pros and cons list for 14 episodes straight.

The FL is cold, calculating and unbothered by everyone around her and honestly that part I respect. Men are falling at her feet left and right, puppy eyes and grand gestures and she is looking at them like they are mildly inconvenient furniture. Genuinely funny at first. But then the back and forth of who she will choose among the princes, whether she will marry the crown prince or not dragged on so long that I stopped finding it amusing and started finding it exhausting. Either do it or don't. The suspense is not that serious.

And the crown prince is presented as weak, poisoned, sickly, with no connections and no real power. The least favorable option in the room. And then ever so conveniently, it turns out he knows martial arts, can take on multiple people at once, and has powerful people backing him behind the scenes this whole time. Nobody suspected a thing. Of course they didn't. And then on top of all that he catches feelings and loses what little personality he had. Suddenly he is just a child who spotted a toy he wants and will not stop until he has it. The obsessive ML with zero thoughts outside of romance is such a tired trope and this drama does nothing new with it. The "secretly the most powerful person in the room" thing is also a tired trope.

The actual plot the revenge, the family legacy, the political scheming is sitting in the corner collecting dust while these two go back and forth. There is so much potential here that the show just refuses to use.

That said, I will admit, once the FL started reciprocating feelings, the drama genuinely became easier to watch. Two mature people being truly devoted to each other while the political storyline finally got the attention it deserved. It felt like the show it was always supposed to be, just several episodes too late.

And then the ending happened.

The ML had died. The FL became empress. She raised their child alone for four years believing her husband was gone. And then he just... appears. Alive. Safe. With a cure to his poison that apparently exists now. No explanation of who was in the coffin. No explanation of where he had been or who was treating him. We are simply expected to accept it and move on with our lives. This drama and Generation to Generation must share the same writer because the "incurable poison suddenly cured with zero explanation in the last five minutes" is becoming a pattern.

Pretty to look at though. I'll give it that much.

The weakest of all Love Classes so far....

I'm still not a fan of two people not speaking the same language, while mr. thai boy is doing at least an acceptable job in english, mr. korean boy can't even speak english. It's not like such a project materializes over night, so there should have been time enough to put him into language school, so both could talk in english with each other.

And then there is the editing and run-time. Love Class Season 1 episodes were around 20 minutes each, while Love Class Season 2 episodes were between 22 and 34 minutes. Season 3 episodes have a runtime of just 13 minutes. They could have alternated between the two couples per episode but no it's mixed, so depending it's often just 5 minutes for one couple. For me there is no natural flow, it feels choppy.

So the story is predictable, the chemistry is nothing to write home about and everything feels flat. I'm not happy with this season because even the "Love Class" in University only plays a role in the beginning and the finale. They could have removed that part completely and it would not have changed anything. And what's with the finale for the second couple? The prince in shining armor gets disgraced (but not the boss), they meet again and then no falling in each others arms, no kiss, just credits? That was one of the laziest written finale ever.

I did expect much more from this series, both previous seasons are sooooo much better. But we can't have it all. It's just a generic BL with not much depth, predictable story, forced drama with homophobic antagonists (because it's Korea). Also disappointing that there was not enough music considering it's about an idol group. There was nothing which kept me excited. It's there, you watch it and you forget it.
