Different Strokes for Different Folks!

I've watched both Korean & Japanese versions of this dramas. Well, I've watched both, kind of. I finished this version and I dropped the Korean version maybe around episode 8 or 9. I honestly can't remember. Moral of the story - it's all based on personal preference. Whatever you prefer in your Asian dramas will determine which of these versions you're going to connect with and enjoy more. There is no right or wrong answer here truly.

Personally, I dropped the Korean version because I couldn't connect with the female lead whereas I know some reviewers preferred the Korean version over this one because they felt that the FL in the Korean version had more of a backbone and more spunk, if you will. Honestly, I disagree with that notion. I feel both leads had the same amount of backbone in the beginning honestly. Neither one of them were particularly assertive after traveling back to the past, if I'm being wholly honest here. I know that's what most people expect from these types of dramas and I've essentially accepted that these dramas will never truly write a FL who immediately shows her own personal growth and anger like we would like. We expect more fire from these leads and we never get that. There's usually two extremes with revenge dramas (which is why I'm generally not too fond of them) - either they're like this drama where there's still a little too much timidity and fear from FL OR the FL goes full-on psychopath and it's dark before the end of the first episode. There's never a true happy medium in these dramas, which there should be but I digress.

So anyway, this drama felt more dark while also having more of a heart. The OG version lacked heart. K-Dramas, generally speaking, are notorious for being melodramatic. K-Dramas have a tendency to read like telenovelas/soap operas sometimes. So while the characters are technically messy on paper and in practice, it comes off as more of a caricature than an honest depiction of human beings. The inherent darkness and rawness often found in J-Dramas worked for this series. The grit we saw made it easier to see these characters as three-dimensional beings. They seemed human in that way and I think that's what I feel was missing from the Korean version.

Also, the ML in the K-Drama was completely lost on the canvas. I barely remember anything about him and he made little to no impression on me. However, the ML in this drama was definitely felt. I've seen this actor in another J-Drama that I love and he essentially played a variation of that character in this drama, as well. The tsundere, stone-faced type. Despite that, I did feel more of an emotional connection with him. I felt his presence; he was very much so represented throughout the narrative. His presence was there even when he wasn't on-screen. The antagonist felt human to me, as well. She was objectively awful but we know how she became that way. We hated Reina but there was some realism to her.

Last but certainly not least, the K-Drama's pacing was SLOWWWWW. The episode count is longer so I guess that's to be expected but that leads to certain arcs being drawn out more than they should and certain arcs being forced into the narrative to fill up the rest of the drama's runtime. This version doesn't have that issue. It's shorter so every episode contributes to the main plot and nothing seems to be filler, to me. Nothing was wasted in that sense, especially your time. They immediately placed us into the meat & potatoes of the story and you didn't have to wait for the show to hit its sweet spot, so to speak. The sweet spot started from episode 1.

Would I recommend this? Yes! It's not too long and it's incredibly enjoyable. Would I rewatch it? Sure, I can definitely see myself rewatching this one if I desired.

Literally amazing/Littéralement incroyable

English:
I just watched this show all in one sitting (which isn't hard to do since it's only 8 episodes, 15 minutes each), and I loved it. I love the idea/concept of it, I love the cast, and basically the entire thing. First off, the acting in this was spectacular. I think that every actor in this show is amazing, especially Lee Seung Gyu (Shin Ki Tae in the show). The way he portrayed emotions was amazing; it even made me emotional. Sometimes when I watch romance K-Dramas, there isn't any chemistry between the leads, but in this show? I see chemistry, I see love, I see admiration. Secondly, I loved the pacing. Even though this is an extremely short show, the show didn't really seem rushed at all, which I enjoyed (I hate when shows drag on plot points and the show overall). Also, I loved how there were just the right amount of cute scenes between the two leads, as well as emotional scenes. I don't want to write any spoilers, so just watch the show! Overall, I think this is my favourite BL. It's amazing, the cast, the acting, the plot, overall perfect. I will 100% rewatch this at some point.

Boring, generic, frustrating

Things I loved

1 The 2ML, Kim Bum. I could watch it for his smile. I wish he had a bigger part and I'm not sure why he doesn't have more dramas to watch. He was the only thing worth it in this boring and frustrated drama.

Things I liked

1 The premise was quite interesting, but it failed to deliver. I thought it would be funny and relatable, but it turned out to be boring and generic.

Things I disliked

1 The cast as a whole. None of them were good enough to make me care about what happened to them. The biggest problem was of course the leads. No chemistry at all and the romance wasn't believable.

2 The FL. I won't say I hated her character and he acting but it was close. The first thing I disliked is that her character wasn't endearing enough and that I blame on the writing but mostly on the actress. I don't think she's a good actress. She tries too hard and I wondered what kind of role she could be good at but I can't imagine any. That here she didn't have any chemistry with the ML didn't help of course. She looked much older than him and haggard in most of her scenes. I hope she is okay, but she looked so much older than her real age that I was surprised. Usually all Korean actors look younger.

3 The ML. I could say I liked him, but that wouldn't be accurate either. Comparing to the FL yes, I liked him more, but both end un in the dislike list because it felt like both were miscast. There was no chemistry between them and although in some scenes he was okay most of the times he seemed out of his depth. I must preferred him in Business Proposal where he had at least some chemistry with the FL. I'm not sure I'll watch anything else with him, but I may try again in the future.

Things I hated

1 The angst that permeated the whole series. It was too much and not that interesting. The humor wasn't there to balance this. I barely chuckled a few times. Maybe my expectations were high but when I saw the poster I thought it'd be funny and healing without the over the top villains and the bad acting.

Childish story

i am writing this on the 24th episode and I really don't want to finish it bcuz of how the ml is treating the fl. I used to watch things like this when my frontal lobe was not developed.
This is a typical rich ml, poor fl from two different worlds story. there is nothing wrong with that, and there starting youth time was even enjoyable but later on it got so repetitive push and pull. And the pure lack of communication ruined it for me. There was no solid reason for the fl to constantly lie to the ml and leave him. Just a 5 minute Convo could've solved everything. The money for grandma plot was stretched, then they didn't have any reason for fl to leave so they used the classic, "leave my grandson" trope.

And don't make me talk about that ml, i believe he has had a fair share of trauma from his childhood, but he is the spoilt, son of a rich man.
He has big anger issues, and mostly in room dramas u would see the ml atleast trying not to hurt the fl bcuz of his anger issues but in this he purposely hurts her after their reunion.

People were comparing sang yan from first frost to lu xixiao and I really can't understand them.
Sang yan would never force yifen to live with him if she was this uncomfortable.

overall i would not recommend spending your time on this drama. I will complete it bcuz I am already quite ahead.

I just created this account to say one thing: this sucks, please do not watch it, and save yourself time.

At first, the drama did not make sense, but overall it was okay, as I was still somewhat looking forward to watching the next episode. As it went on, some of the choices the writer decided to make made no sense at all, so it was just up and down.
Toward the last episode, I was angry, disappointed, hated everything, and regretted ever continuing to watch because, as a person that have watched a lot of dramas, I guessed how the second lead was going to be so obsessed with FL, after watching the episode where he dreamed of losing everyone, but I kept watching believing the writer would change it up. But they did not, and they just kept dragging the whole drama. I am truly sad that I spent so much time watching this drama.

And one thing that made me uncomfortable is how the other character did not really care about the ML; it felt like everything was just about the FL, as all the characters adore her, and I am happy that they did, but I did not like how the ML did not get any love or true friendship with anyone else. I love a Man that is all about his girl, but this was just not it.

I am the type to never comment on anything unless it has some effect on me, and this was one of them.

Plotlines with unsatisfying endings

I'm not going to lie the writing in this show was pretty bad. The plot wasn't very thought out either. It just felt like the show was trying to have too many plotlines going that didn't really entirely matter or had a good start and then was wrapped up quickly and not satisfying at all (an example is we kept hearing about how Phali wasn't over his girlfriend and then once the two of them got back together we never saw them together again except maybe once or twice and they didn't feel like a couple at all). The thing that bothered me the most though was that the show is called Wednesday Club, but we barely ever saw all seven members together at the same time. We saw the first meeting and maybe a few other times, but for the most part we just saw the same pairs of people interacting over and over. I just really wish we got to see them all develop some kind of relationship with each other, but we really didn't. I think this show had great potential but just needed some major tweaking in the writing room.

Characters:
Kong: He was really nice and clearly cared about his friends a lot. It was cute seeing him fall for Tam and I liked that they ended up together. Him and May had chemistry together too, but I definitely think Tam was more suited for him. I felt bad for him for how he's always been treated by his family, even if it was with a reason, it doesn't make it any better. After the first episode or two we didn't really see his and Phali's friendship much either which I thought was weird since they started this whole thing.

Phali: He really shouldn't have tried to get with Tam when he wasn't over his past girlfriend. I thought he was a pretty funny character but after him and Tam split, I feel like we didn't see him much at all, and especially not with his girlfriend (like I mentioned previously). I did feel bad for him when we heard about what happened with the two of them in the past. I liked seeing that he does and enjoyed doing the volunteer work and seeing him trying to make it right with different people he's wronged. Again, I wish we got to see of more of his friendship with Kong. Shoutout Nani, he was the whole reason I watched this show in the first place.

Kun: He sucked. I didn't like his character at all. I did feel bad for him in different moments for sure, but overall, he was just an asshole and was quite rude. I get he was trying to make money for his family, but he was awful to people (especially Mac) for literally no reason.

Pheem: He was such a sweetie. Not only for everything he was trying to do for Mink, but how he took care of May as well. His crush on May was really sweet too. I loved seeing the scenes with his family as well. He was just the nicest of all the characters for sure.

Mac: This poor dude. Every time he was on screen I just felt bad for him. Someone was always being mean to him, or he was going through something. I loved his friendship with Kong a lot. I didn't really have strong opinions on him other than I just felt bad for him.

Tam: She was the other character I thought was really sweet. Even when she was being mean to her family, I didn't blame her at all and thought they deserved worse for all they put her through. Her crush on Phali was cute but I definitely liked her better with Kong. Her friendship with May was really sweet too and I liked seeing what they brought out in each other.

May: I liked May and thought she was one of the most interesting characters. She was one of the more complex I feel out of everyone. I knew her crush on Kong wouldn't go anywhere because man never seemed interested at all. I loved her friendship with Tam as well as her relationship with Pheem. She always just brought something interesting to the show which I liked.

the show that got me into thai bl this year. AND ITS SO PEAK !!!!

yeah so this was my first thai bl, my friend recommended me only friends and gmmtv as a whole to get into, so i decided to watch it when i came home from school. i’ve already been a fan of BL and LGBTQ media in general but most of the stuff i consumed was from east asia or the west. i’ve heard of gmmtv before but i never had the chance to watch it till may of this year

and tbh and im so sad ive been sleeping on thai bl and gmmtv over the years, THIS SHOW IS SO PEAK.

i love the characters so so much, everyone is so interesting and also fun to analyze if that makes any sense? whether it’s with the production choices or the fashion sense of all of the characters. the actors do an amazing job with their characters (my fav character is hands down sand, nick is also amazing too!)

visual and aesthetic choices are top tier. the bar tender aesthetic (?) fits this show so much, and the visuals are great, especially the lighting (i’m a sucker for good lighting you’ll probably notice that in my reviews)

the nc scenes are so so peak, my favorite is definitely sandray’s smoke kiss that was so beautiful and hot at the same time :3

although this doesn’t ruin the show for me, i will say that i’m not too crazy over the music choice in the background of nc scenes, idk its not horrible but its not amazing either, it kinda there for me but it doesn’t ruin this peak show :D

but yeah this is just me glazing only friends, i love this show so so much :D

A Refreshing Slice of Rural Life with a Modern Twist

The drama balances comedy with genuine emotional weight. One minute you're laughing at the absurdity of the family feud, the next you're reflecting on what it means to make your own choices in life. It's that rare kind of drama that doesn't take itself too seriously but still leaves you thinking. If you're into slow-burn family dramas with breathtaking scenery and a modern feminist undercurrent, Xiao Fang is worth your time. It's only 18 episodes, so it won't drag on forever. Perfect summer watch — especially if you want to mentally escape to the mountains of Guizhou. I'm definitely adding this one to my "dramas that make me want to book a flight" list.

Delightfully Unhinged

I loved this off beat, unhinged, refreshing original movie. It's funny, playful and quirky but underneath it all, the movie actually addresses the question that many of us has at least once asked in our life time. namely...what is the meaning of life? Are we just all blindly following a scripted destiny pathway or can one really change ones life and destiny? Brilliantly, this serious question was asked in the silliest, craziest way by the ML "fighting" the aliens for the remote control ( aka to take over his life's control) on the mother ship. And yet. in the end he did stop fighting and let destiny take it's course.. . meaning, sometimes in life, no matter how hard one fights for something. it will never happen if it wasn't meant to be. Plenty of examples in my and many friends' real life story.
Bravo! Truly brilliant!! Loved it! Highly recommend it for people with imagination and for those who/whom are able to focus on and understand the actual meaning beneath the silliness.

?

I honestly don't get why people are being so harsh on this drama. Personally, I really liked their chemistry, and I loved Sogo's visuals.

It started off really strong, but somewhere along the way Sakae-san lost that longing, yearning look he had at the beginning. I also wasn't a fan of how close he stayed to his ex. The scene where he went off with his ex while Sogo was right there genuinely annoyed me. They really dragged that whole thing out.

That said, I still had a great time watching it. I think Sogo's visuals definitely played a big part in why I enjoyed it so much.

A solid series for my first review!

Reset is one of the most binge-worthy C-dramas if you love a good thriller.
What’s good? It completely avoids relying on cheesy special effects. Instead, it focuses on the passengers, and honestly, the side characters' backstories hit hardest. The altercations between the main duo and the cops are brilliant.
The ML and FL’a relationship is way more "partners in crime trying not to die" than actual lovers, which honestly makes the partnership feel way more realistic.
What’s bad? It’s not flawless—some of the middle loops drag a bit, and the ending is a little too perfectly wrapped up in a bow but at only 15 episodes, it’s a good, solid watch.

The MOST interesting C-drama this year

When I was little, I always loved watching family dramas. Even though that kind of experience felt far removed from my own life, it always gave me a sense of family warmth. Xiao Fang completely brought back those feelings I had as a child. The overall color palette of this show is very clean, and it presents us with beautiful rural scenery. After watching the first two episodes, I really want to visit the area—it’s the kind of scenery you rarely see in the city. The story itself is quite forward-thinking. I can already sense that many people will be upset by the premise of an unwed pregnancy, but the female lead, Xiao Fang, has a brave personality that puts my mind at ease. Even if she decides to have the baby on her own, it’s no big deal. I’m also looking forward to seeing how the male lead, Xiao Wei, changes.
Another appealing aspect is the show’s cast. Aside from the young leads, the rest of the cast consists of well-known actors and comedians—I couldn’t stop laughing right from the very beginning.

Night has come tinha muito mais potencial.
