Was not expecting to love this so much

(HALFWAY POINT REVIEW FURTHER DOWN)
Upon watching the first 6 episodes, I am absolutely hooked!!
Genius girl with no friends x smart boy who becomes her only friend?? Youth drama??? Tian Xi Wei??? Sign me UP!
Tian Xi Wei's acting is peak as always. The way she conveyed that empty heart feeling, the I-don't-know-why sadness/frustration was so relatable I cried. She always picks the best scripts, so I trust this one will be really good.
This being a modern CDrama, and a youth one at that, is such a breath of fresh air; idk why, but for a while it was only historical dramas, and I was getting sick of them.
I am so excited to follow along. Totally recommend!!

HALFWAY THROUGH THE DRAMA:
14 episodes in, and I have to say, I don't think it deserves the lower ratings it's getting.
Regarding the male lead wanting to compete with the FL, I truly don't see the problem. He wanted to find out his own worth, separate from the genius who doesn't have to try. Also, knowing your opponent to win is not a bad thing; he used all the tools available, and he didn't cheat. He is also... a teenager. Why are we expecting the emotional intelligence of an adult (which most adults also don't have) from a teenager?
At this point, the best part of this show has got to be the sibling relationship between the FL and her brother. They are so funny, wholesome, and cute. Honestly speaking, I am way more invested in their relationship than the main romantic relationship.
I just can't find the chemistry between the main couple (I love Tian Xi Wei's acting tho). It's not bad in any sense, but their storyline isn't very compelling.
The second lead couple's storyline is a tale as old as time; bickering best friends who don't know they like each other, and fortunately, I love this trope.
The drama itself is like every youth drama, but I truly appreciate the acting of the whole cast.
(update & thoughts when I'm done watching the drama)

The first 26 episodes of this drama are just so good. It falls short a little bit later on, especially regarding the male character and the romance, but the development of the female characters makes up for it. After the success of this drama, a wave of female-business-focused dramas started being produced. That's how much of a phenomenon this drama was in the Chinese market. It even reopened fast-track and express promotions after a long hiatus.

If you want romance, the first half is for you.
If you want a female career focus, the second half is what you should watch.

Acting: All the actors did justice to their roles. There are a few scenes where I think the acting could have been better, but those are just small details. Overall, the chemistry between the main leads is very good, especially in the first half. It has a very classic feel to it.

Plot: A bit lacking toward the end, but overall, I think the writer knows how to write heart-fluttering moments.

Directing and music: This is the strongest point of the drama. We really need more female directors to convey the subtle details of romance. The classic atmosphere and the beauty of ancient China can truly be felt through the camera work and music direction. The scenes in episodes 8 and 9 are especially beautiful, thanks to the director's skill.

The true score should be around 8.5–9, but this pairing is special to me, so I gave it a 9.5 in my review and rated it a 10

The plot

Soon as the first episode came up that was the moment I knew that the series was going to be a minus B. Who would kneel for 5 years in front of a PO and be humiliated every day unless they are seriously suffering some
sort of brain condition. The PO expecting this behavior is also deranged. Some of these Bls
scrape the barrel and its a shame that actors after working their butts off have to end up in a series that has loads of negative reviews.I do feel for them. We the viewers expect good bl series at least but there are so many now that
are second rate because of to many being produced with the same tropes its boring.
Crime..mafia..villians..angt..live and death situations are seriously in short supply..

very cute, but no kiss

it’s a very cute series, the characters are likable, and the acting is not bad. I don’t usually like love triangles but this one wasn’t bad at all!!

The only thing missing was a kiss, they didn’t even peck :(

overall worth watching since it’s so short
would’ve rated it higher if they kissed

Love letter to haute cuisine and to the emotions that truly exceptional food can evoke.

The main story follows the rise of a new, ambitious restaurant, exploring how the team comes together and the challenges they have to overcome along the way.

The restaurant business is portrayed with a certain amount of glamour and romanticism, but at its core it feels remarkably authentic. What makes this drama especially refreshing is that, unlike most stories about fine dining, it doesn't place the head chef at the center of everything. Instead, it highlights the importance of service, the art of wine pairing, and even offers a glimpse into the business side of the industry, building its conflicts around securing funding, cutting costs, and maintaining relationships with suppliers.

This drama is, above all, a love letter to haute cuisine and to the emotions that truly exceptional food can evoke.

I'm genuinely impressed by how skillfully the creators held my attention, making me binge one episode after another without relying on manipulation, excessive melodrama, elaborate plot twists, or any of the usual devices used to keep viewers hooked.

The storytelling is refreshingly straightforward. There's almost no ruthless rivalry with competitors, hardly any betrayals, and even a tender romance is notably absent.

Instead, you simply watch the characters learn, search for suppliers, build healthier relationships, and discover new sides of themselves.

The central conflict—the one that sets countless problems in motion—stems from an allergic reaction suffered by a customer at the protagonist's former restaurant. In my opinion, the industry's response is exaggerated and somewhat contrived. Still, I accepted it as part of the premise. It doesn't dominate the narrative throughout, but it does serve as the catalyst for the team's growth and growing sense of unity.

It's honestly difficult to single out what this drama does well, because nearly everything about it works. And all of those strengths are amplified by the simplicity of its story, the clarity of its message, and the depth with which it explores its subject.

Flawless from Start to Finish

I really loved the cinematography, the direction, and the actors' performances. Man, this drama was so well written. It was truly top-notch, and I would definitely watch it again in the future.

This drama made me feel so many things. Both actors did such an amazing job portraying their characters, and the way both storylines transitioned was so well done. I honestly don't have enough words to express how good it was.

I can't wait to watch the upcoming dramas of all the actors who worked on this project because they were all incredible. Not only did the main actors shine, but the supporting cast also gave amazing performances.

Usually, in BL genre, something always feels lacking, whether it's the story, the acting, the production, or something else. But this drama got everything right. The acting, the production, the cinematography, the direction, every aspect was outstanding. I honestly didn't expect it to be this good.

For me, this drama is easily one of the best in the BL genre. It's definitely in my top three, and honestly, I think it's my number one. I don't think any of the existing dramas in this genre can compare to it right now.

I was also really happy that each episode was around 40 minutes long because we don't usually get episodes that long in this genre. Having 12 episodes was another huge plus.

Overall, this drama was just so good. I would definitely rewatch it in the future, and I'm really looking forward to the upcoming projects of everyone who was part of it.

This drama has a 7.6 rating on this site, but 9.3 on Douban while low-rated dramas on Douban often get high ratings here, as long as they have good romantic chemistry. This drama is a masterpiece from director Zhang Yong Xin, who is also an A+ Chinese director.

The overall plot revolves around China's cultural movements leading to the establishment of the Chinese Communist Party. It's not a theme I would typically enjoy (I don't even like my own country's dramas on this subject), but this one is genuinely entertaining. The cinematography, music direction, and storytelling are all top-notch. The cast consists of seasoned veterans and talented young actors, so the acting is nothing to worry about.

This period is dark and frustrating, yet the way the drama portrays it always offers a sense of hope. I think that's because it focuses more on cultural movements than on politics, which makes it feel lighter.

One thing to note: the characters are all real historical figures, so some rose-tinted idealism may have been applied to certain portrayals. For a more accurate evaluation of those figures, I recommend doing your own research.

Agent Kim Reactivated – Strong Start, Repetitive Finish

Agent Kim Reactivated begins on a very strong note. The opening episodes are genuinely engaging, especially the child kidnapping storyline. Watching a desperate father do everything in his power to rescue his child creates real tension and emotional investment, making it easy to get hooked.

Unfortunately, the drama loses its momentum as it progresses. Once the initial plot is resolved, the story starts to feel directionless. Instead of introducing meaningful developments, it repeatedly uses the daughter's safety as an excuse to create more action sequences. While the action itself remains well choreographed, it gradually feels forced because the situations leading to those fights lack substance.

One of the biggest frustrations is the chairman's character. He continuously creates chaos, yet the protagonists repeatedly let him escape or avoid dealing with him decisively, seemingly only so he can return and cause another conflict. This repetitive cycle becomes predictable and makes the plot feel artificially stretched.

Overall, the drama relies far too heavily on action while offering very little narrative depth. After an exciting and emotionally driven beginning, it settles into a monotonous pattern of fight after fight with minimal story progression. If you're looking for nonstop action, it may still be entertaining, but if you expect a compelling plot to match the action, it ultimately falls short.

the main lead was the money

This show made me feel as though I was watching a farce. With all the running around and trying to hide the money for everyone and in the end everyone was aware of the money. There were some hilarious bits here and there, such as in episode 22. But why did it need so many episodes? Every now and then I fast-forwarded through it and watched it at a faster speed.

Well-presented hackneyed stories

I really liked the beginning and was already hoping it might turn out to be another "Prisoner of Beauty" or "Melody of Golden Age", but unfortunately, it turned out to be a complete disappointment.

The script feels like it was slapped together in a rush—the plot structure and the female lead were lifted straight from *The Glory* (why? it was that the weakest part of that drama), and to this pathological female lead—who borders on psychopathy and sadism—they added a family of handsome princes with masochistic tendencies. The beginning was unconventional, but unfortunately, that was the extent of the characterization; the writers didn't even attempt to develop the characters. They stayed exactly the same from start to finish. Such cardboard characters get boring very quickly.
Essentially, there were no surprises in this drama. It relies entirely on tropes that have been used for years, and every viewer is familiar with them.

The only things moving forward were some shallow little stories—briefly attention-grabbing, yet devoid of any emotional resonance or deeper concept. It was as if the screenwriter were simply ticking off boxes—rushing through the process without truly engaging with the characters or the story's logic. Competent, but lackluster.
In my opinion, if you want to portray characters as intelligent through their actions, you have to write those actions intelligently, too. Unfortunately, that didn't happen here—things that should have emerged naturally from the sequence of events are instead pulled out like a rabbit from a hat.

The director seemed to do the plot more harm than good; many of the shots completely lack flair. I understand that many visuals exist simply to give the viewer a lovely view of the actors -and I’m all for that; I enjoy looking at beautiful people in nice settings with good lighting—but such shots really ought to have some relevance to the action, which isn't necessarily the case here.

It’s a real shame that Meng ZiYi was done such a disservice by such a flat role; I really like her as an actress and appreciate her restrained acting style, but here she simply didn't stand a chance. They turned her into a mannequin for pretty outfits—a character who cares only about her own interests and takes pleasure in saying things that hurt others.
I kept waiting for her inner shell to crack so we could see her soul, but I’ve reached episode 23, and unfortunately, it turns out it wasn’t armor after all - just an empty cardboard box. It could have been such a fascinating story, bordering on something like "The Double", but it seems to have been beyond the capabilities of the screenwriters and the director.

This is the first role of He Yu’s that I’ve seen, and you can really sense him trying to make something of the part. I even feel a certain sympathy for him, as he likely wants to play a fully fleshed-out character and is doing his best to breathe some life into such a poorly written role. It probably isn't particularly satisfying to play a masochistic maniac in love - why in love reasons that aren't even entirely clear.

As for the rest of the actors—many of whom I really like and respect—it is truly a shame to even speak of them. I understand that people have to make a living and pay the electricity bills, but they shouldn't be subjected to such a disservice.

I don’t know why so much money was poured into such a weak script. Perhaps there was just enough propaganda thrown in to convince the approving official—who doesn't strike me as a particularly sophisticated connoisseur of literature or film—to greenlight the production.

All in all, it’s an aesthetically pleasing but unoriginal drama that lacks real characters; it’s an okay watch, but not one that leaves a lasting impression. It’s perfect for girls who have just broken up with their boyfriends and are, firstly, furious at the world, and secondly, dreaming of a Prince Charming who will love them regardless of logic or psychological realism. A tub of ice cream and this drama, should lift their spirits. In other situations, however, it might be worth considering something with more substance; many short dramas offer greater psychological depth.

Totalmente recomendable ☝?PEEEERO...

Great Start That Lost Its Way

I started watching this series earlier than planned because of all the hype — I was curious to see what everyone was talking about. The show started really well, super fun and genuinely funny, which made it very entertaining from the early episodes. However, this series should have ended at episode 7. The last three episodes felt completely unnecessary.

The plot hooked me right from the beginning. I really enjoyed the story of Agent Kim, a man whose true background remains a mystery to everyone. He’s desperately searching for the truth behind his daughter’s disappearance, while his enemies gradually uncover more about his past. The reunion of the three former agents teaming up for missions together was extremely entertaining and full of great humor. However, the middle part of the series dragged on too much, and the last three episodes were noticeably weaker. I ended up watching them just to finish the show.

Overall, Agent Kim Reactivated started very strongly and had so much potential. Unfortunately, the later episodes couldn’t maintain the quality, which lowered my interest. Still, the three lead actors delivered solid performances that kept it fun, funny, and engaging enough for me to watch until the end.
