Two Souls Connected: Intriguing & Emotional

Wow. I absolutely loved this and would wholeheartedly recommend it to everyone.

The drama centers on two leads whose lives become mysteriously intertwined during a critical mission. As the story unfolds, unexpected twists reveal that nothing is quite what it seems. It reminded me of Cang Lan Jue (the novel behind Love Between Fairy and Devil), where the leads share a unique spiritual bond that deepens their connection over time. That same soulful connection here adds layers of identity and moral complexity, enriching both the characters and the overall narrative.

I do not understand the hate this show has gotten in the reviews both here and on Viki. There really was not any plot point that wasn't addressed later on in the show. I found it to be great drama and want to address some reoccuring comments.

Phone not being found at a crime scene? It wasn't a crime scene, it was an accident based on the video so they would not have searched for evidence...

Not kicking the guy out after turning the lights off when she fired her house keeper? She didn't share with the guy that he shouldn't turn the lights out, when she explicitly told her housekeeper not to. People give grace to their friends but not to those they employ like that. Also, he assumed they were all asleep and not hanging out in a secret room....

Missing romance? I didn't feel like they could have any romance until the ML learned the truth about the FL, even the ML commented on it before he left. They showed and had great chemistry instead and I'd equate this to a very slow burn thriller romance.

Dumb male lead? I don't think you paid enough attention to his character then. He showed his true colors numerous times up until you learn everything.

The acting was amazing and they were fantastic at mimicking each other. They swapped pretty fluidly. Personally, I think this is absolutely worth watching even with the over the top play on stereotypes.

Level Up.....Your Entertainment

If you survive the epic number of plot holes and truly outlandish situations the characters find themselves in, this is by far one of the best and most ridiculous comedies I have seen in forever. Don't expect an ounce of accuracy in its portrayal of the gaming world, but you can clearly feel how great the actors are and how they make you feel engaged. They definitely knew how to dramatize and play up all the craziness.

You absolutely experience high levels of ridiculousness, but it's pure entertainment gold.

unexpected turn of events! cover is misleading

When you look at the cover of the series, you think it’s cute and fluffy but it’s honestly more emotional than you think. The plot is interesting and there are elements people can relate to such as; family issues, couple dynamics, and even friendship tests. All that plus the age regression, it can honestly feel overwhelming but the director kept the series flowing where each episode built on the other. As for the actors, they did a phenomenal job. I have to give to Santa for playing two characters and still being clear which one is which based on his acting. Bravo! Give it try if you haven’t watch it yet! :) two more episodes to go!

Whew!

It took me over a year to finish this series. I would start watching it, then get bored, and then pick it up again. The whole of the series literally felt like it just dragged on. The theme was sad, miserable, lonely and it really put you in that mood. Not to take anything away from the acting of the leads, they were great. It just felt like such a chore to get through such heavy storytelling. It was like wading through murky waters and you just keep getting pulled under. It is understandable that the concept was dark and depressing. There were some scenes and episodes that I felt were unnecessary. 32 episodes of this felt too long. The sweet moments weren't nearly enough to compensate. But it was still a good series. I just don't think I would rewatch it again.

Tries to do too much and fails, although somewhat entertaining

This was interesting like as of writing this the rating is 8.8 and I'm not donkey enough to believe 8.8 on MDL means good because MDL often has ridiculous ratings for some of the worse things I've seen.

Now I won't spoil anything like most my reviews have no spoilers.

The synopsis was interesting but the story they had just did not work for me.

The issue is this series ...

- Has elements of comedy but not to the level of Shaun of the Dead or Zombieland
- Has elements of survival but not to the level of the move The Night Eats the World
- Has elements of investigation and discovery but not to the level of even The Last of Us or World War Z
- Has element of action but not the main focus like Train to Busan, All of Us Are Dead, World War Z etc...
- Feels like a light heart story so you don't get that gritty or dark vibe

What this means is it gets pulled into different directions and doesn't work.

Either you lean into a gritty-dark investigation type of series or you go comedy-survival for a light series. In the context of this series where it's about a fake marriage to get an apartment in a complex I feel the they should have leaned into the comedy side without investigating or military.

The story would have been better for me if it was like focused on a couple the male and female leads who aren't friends but mutuals because of other friends and they decided to fake a marriage. The comedy aspect is them hiding their fake marriage from nose-y residents in the complex.

Then you explore the residents and their mysteries/secrets while overtime they get outed. Then you have love develop between the leads because the whole fake to real love is something people like.

Thing is comedy doesn't rate well and has to be perfected but at the same time I got no clue who the heck is putting 8.8 on MDL for this series like that's just crazy to me.

A Love Written Across Generations

This Drama Deserved So Much More Recognition ✨

I honestly don’t understand why this drama has such low ratings because, for me, it became one of the most unforgettable cdramas I’ve ever watched. Yes, the storyline can feel confusing at times, and no, it is not a romance-heavy drama — but somehow that’s exactly what made it so special to me 🤍 It’s the kind of story that quietly pulls you in until you suddenly realize you’re completely obsessed with it.

This drama is truly made for people who love obsessive male leads, forbidden love, morally grey characters, demonic sects, and that “red flag for everyone else but a green flag for his girl” type of devotion. The story may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it was absolutely mine.

One of the biggest reasons I started this drama was Zhou Yiran, and he completely exceeded my expectations. Since this was his first historical wuxia role, I was honestly shocked by how perfectly he embodied Mu Qingyan. He didn’t just play the character — he became him. The coldness, possessiveness, jealousy, tenderness, and emotional vulnerability were portrayed so naturally that I genuinely think he should do more roles like this because he suits this genre incredibly well ✨

And Mu Qingyan himself… what a character. Beneath the terrifying demonic leader image, he was actually such husband material for Cai Zhao. He cooks for her, protects her, takes care of her, and loves her so deeply that it hurts to watch sometimes. One of my favorite scenes was when he cooked wontons for Zhao Zhao — such a simple moment, yet it perfectly showed how soft he becomes only for her 🥹

At the same time, his jealousy was absolutely insane in the best way possible. The moment he learned about Zhao Zhao’s marriage proposal, he immediately rushed to the valley to propose himself. That scene had me screaming 😭 And let’s be honest: rich, powerful, obsessed demonic leader energy? He carried it perfectly.

What made the story even more emotional for me was the generational love cycle within the Mu Clan. The title “Generation to Generation” suddenly feels so meaningful once you realize that every generation of the Mu Clan ends up hopelessly obsessed with a girl from Luoying Valley.

First it was Mu Donglie and Luo Shiyun.
Then Mu Zhengyang and Cai Pingshu.
And finally, Mu Qingyan and Cai Zhao.

The first two love stories ended tragically, which made Mu Qingyan and Cai Zhao’s relationship feel even more emotional — almost like they were finally breaking a curse that had existed for generations.

And that near-death scene with Mu Qingyan absolutely destroyed me. I genuinely thought he died. I was crying so much during those moments that I could barely continue watching 💔 This drama gave me emotional damage and then healed me two minutes later.

What makes this even more special to me is that I loved the story so much that I actually read the novel afterward — which almost never happens for me because I usually struggle to stay interested in novels. But this one completely consumed me. Knowing that Mu Qingyan and Zhao Zhao eventually had a son, Mu Yan, made me emotional all over again. The fact that he inherited Mu Qingyan’s cold attitude, obsession with Zhao Zhao, and even his signature side-eye moments was honestly adorable 😭

This drama may not be perfect to everyone, but to me, it became something unforgettable. The characters, the tragic generational love, the obsessive devotion, the emotional pain, and the quiet tenderness between Mu Qingyan and Cai Zhao created a story I genuinely cannot move on from.

I think a part of me will stay in this drama forever 🤍

And yes… now I want my own demonic leader too.

Let me be real It was messy and the reviews here DID NOT HELP

I love the characters and the actors did a wonderful job and the concept was genius even though all I got was a basic understanding of it. It was really good in the beginning but it just got messy at the end relying on shock value too much to continue the storyline. It got really confusing some parts of the plot didn't make sense I had to replace them with my own ideas just to fill the void of why somethings happened. I think they forgot the main plot for a while there because he was supposed to be protecting someone but they forgot and when they FINALLY got back to that plot at the end they had to add a bunch of random characters that didn't show up in the series until the finale. WHO THE HEACK WAS CHET AND the characters that died had unexplained deaths too like ALL OF THEM WAS RUSHED. At the end that series explained absolutely nothing and when they did explain something it sounded like a 5 year olds excuse.

So when you have a 40+ episode xianxia romance built across multiple timelines and parallel lives, you know that the plot will be stretched and manipulated to fill the runtime.
Deaths, coughing blood, transmigration, years of separation — it's all here. Too many timelines, too many complications and along the way the characters get lost in the mechanics of it. So i stopped caring about them.

The ML's actor is genuinely impressive. He plays four different versions of the same character across timelines and you can actually tell them apart. Great acting. The FL's actress is equally skilled — but the writers gave her almost nothing to work with. To make the ML more sympathetic - even though he is supposedly the most evil man on Earth or in the Three Realms (or however Xianxia logic works 😐) - they sacrificed the FL's character, leaving her inconsistent and too passive for someone sent back in time on a world-saving mission.

Which brings me to the "great love story": both actors are skilled and they clearly have a dynamic together (as we see in Love is sweet also), but for me it felt performative rather than real. And that's because the characters were sacrificed along the way: the ML's supposed evilness is reduced just to trauma and the FL's empathy reads more like pity. So their story didn't convince me. A depressed traumatized man slowly being humanized by his caregiver. Romantic? Not for me. ☹️

And this is another pattern that frustrates me in asian dramas.
If the ML is evil, keep him evil. If he's strong, keep him strong. Don't sand down every interesting edge he has just to make a point about the "power of love"! Because they usually go from cold/guarded men to shy puppies after falling in love and act so childish that it makes me cringe. Or worse - they build an ultra strong female character by tearing the poor man down (best example - Pursuit of Jade 💀).
Evolution ≠ erasure. The best characters change what they do, how they think, not who they fundamentally are.

The most evil being in the Three Realms? Just a bullied kid nobody loved 😞 — and for half the episodes the writers wanted us to root for him. Scariest villain ever!

But the "real" villains?
His father, his wife, his abusers, the 'righteous' sects. So almost everyone who breathed while he existed.

The "villain is just traumatized", the system that created the monster - these are everywhere, not just in xianxia (with those corrupt elders and hypocritical sects). It's almost a genre staple at this point. They make the bad guy soft, make the institutions monstrous, and call it complexity. It's not. 😐

So indeed this Mary Sue is a rebel one — but not in a good way. Shameless might be the right word.

The ML's gaze alone could carry a drama — tender, composed, completely smitten from the moment he sees her, while still giving her space and respect. Xiao Qi is genuinely one of the best written MLs in C-drama — not cold, not irritable, not the typical idol type. Just a man who isn't afraid to love.
But that gaze is also about all the romance has. It moves fast, stays shallow, and never quite feels real — no real depth added, no evolution across 68 episodes. It's not a slow burn. It's just... stagnant.

And then there's the FL. She's capable, beautiful, beloved by literally every man around her — her childhood sweetheart, the crown prince, the villain, even Xiao Qi's most loyal general. The Mary Sue type rarely bothers me if the character earns it — but here she peaks around the halfway point and then slowly becomes exactly what the drama claims she isn't: aloof, self-righteous, and oddly warm to everyone except the man who deserves it most.

The production is stunning — costumes, cinematography, battle scenes. Just a shame it's wrapped around a story that kept frustrating me.

Typical C-Drama Slop

This is my first time writing a review and it's because this drama genuinely pissed me off. Seeing people rating this a 9 or 10 and the avg rating is an 8.4 on here genuinely baffles me.
TLDR; don't waste your time with this, don't watch it, you will be stressed, annoyed, and upset

I'll start with the very few good things about this drama. Acting was pretty standard, decent chemistry, and I liked how Jiang Jun handled certain situations. I don't really like writing paragraphs (writing was never my forte) so I'll condense it into point form to explain better.
1. The acting was actually pretty good from majority of the cast so kudos to the actresses and actors in this
2. The chemistry was there. I liked FL and ML's relationship and interactions but that alone was not good enough to save this hot mess of a drama
3. Jiang Jun as a character is likeable for the most part and I do like how she stood up to the ML when he insisted on choosing what was best for her when it's been like what, 10 years since they last met

Now, for the many horrible things. Insensitive handling of serious topics, misogynistic undertones, incest, characters forgiven over sexual assault and physical and mental harm to the FL, god awful ML, illogical, stupid, and braindead plot points and scenes, accidental kiss scenes, unrealistic behaviour and situations, romanticization of selfish and weird behaviour from Xu Li, inconsistent characters, and unnecessarily drags out so many scenes. Obviously, there were a lot more but these are the ones that irked me the most.
1. Insensitive handling of serious topics - the way the drama just brushed over the fact FL got sexually assaulted was so disturbing and it wasn't even treated seriously. Then, minutes later, silly music plays as FL asks ML to not be mad at her anymore. Also, the way that FL just believes it was her fault is just so sad with no one by her side to support and comfort her
2. Misogynistic undertones - "a woman will wither without love", said by FL and FL always forgiving everyone when they have caused her mental distress and harm.
3. Incest - SML's sister is in love with him :| sure, they're not blood related but they're still siblings? It was literally so unnecessary to include that when it added pretty much nothing to the story
4. Characters are easily forgiven - Shen Xin led FL to a faulty elevator and had her stuck genuinely could have cost her life if she started crying or some other malfunction ocurred. She was easily forgiven by FL and even became a manager later on. Du Lei sexually assaulted FL and spread scandalous articles about her. What happened to him? Literally nothing
5. ML is a huge red flag - He literally BULLIED her in high school and traumatized her. Okay, fine, let's argue he was just a kid at the time. As an adult, he tries to kick FL out of his company because HE thinks it won't be good for HER and he makes her work life so much more difficult to try and kick her out. Also, when FL gets sexually assaulted by her friend, he's mad at her and she's the one who has to beg for his forgiveness?? And when FL says she feels like it's a pity she lost a great friend, the ML says "guess I shouldn't have saved you then" LIKE WHAT??? Then, when FL blames herself for not noticing SML's feelings earlier and should've been more "sensitive", ML agrees and goes like "yeah now you know you're not perceptive" when he should have been comforting her and telling her it wasn't her fault! After, he says "what did you do for him to act like that (sexually assault her)" like excuse me??? how was any of that her fault???
6. Plot points and scenes are illogical, stupid, and braindead. For example, FL is said to have a tear allergy. I searched this up and it is a real condition but it means they are allergic to the contact of water on their skin, which FL clearly did not have, just the tears.
7. Accidental kiss scenes - This almost never happens and especially not in the way they are shown that leads up to the "kiss" in this drama. Someone trips and falls into the other's arms and their lips touch. Ridiculous (sorry i know im a negative nancy and major hater)
8. So many situations and behaviours of the characters are unrealistic. For example, FL is constantly trying to get herself out of embarrassing situations with ML by running away (she literally runs) and the way every single character sucks at lying is insane
9. Xu Li and Xiao Chuan sucks - She gets a job at a cvs just so she could try to approach this cute guy (genuinely who does that). She's also selfish and inconsiderate of Xiao Chuan. Xiao Chuan also pisses me off because wdym you dont wanna be with her because you believe your app has 100% accuracy and no errors? If he were truly smart and a genius that the show depicts him to be he would know a software having ZERO errors and 100% accuracy is impossible. Also why are you even relying on this software when you KNOW you like her?? Their relationship is overall bland and boring
10. Inconsistent characters - Du Lei, the SML was originally seen as a nice, considerate, and helpful friend to FL, albeit his original intentions were to use her. But in the end, he fully loses it and sexually assaults FL and tries to take her down and ruin her life. Prior to this, he was literally helping the ML from a scandal, even knowing they were already dating. It just seems so out of character for him to do what he did when he was literally portrayed as an incredibly caring, sweet, and respectful guy. It honestly feels like they changed his character because ML was already a huge asshole so when comparing ML and SML, ML is obviously seen as the better one
11. This drama is incredibly slow with so many romantic scenes being dragged out to like a minute long

OKAY review/rant over

Acting, cinematography - both exceptional. No complaints there. Mostly for Part 1 of this drama.

But the writing plays you. The FL's resistance starts feeling less like a flawed human and more like a tool to keep you sad for as long as possible. And the memory loss trope at the end, however beautifully shot, is still the memory loss trope. When a drama this ambitious reaches for that device, it frustrates you. So close to being the perfect k-drama...

But...yeah, worth watching. Go in knowing the writers will squeeze you — not always for the right reasons, not because they want to say something true about life or war/hardships of a woman, but because the plot needs you to suffer a little longer.

THIS DRAMA HAS MY WHOLE HEART

I genuinely don’t even know how to move on from this drama because EVERYTHING about it was perfect to me. The OST??? Absolutely insane. Every single song hit so hard emotionally and made every scene feel even more magical. I’m still not over it.

And the chemistry between the leads??? OH MY GOD. The tension, the emotions, the soft moments — they looked so natural together that I forgot I was even watching a drama. They literally made me smile at my screen like an idiot 😭

BUT THE LUCID DREAM PART??? THAT WAS EVERYTHING TO ME. Those scenes were so beautiful, emotional, and unforgettable. The entire vibe felt dreamy and heartbreaking in the best possible way. I was completely obsessed.

And don’t even get me started on their little family 😭🤍 The domestic scenes were so warm and comforting that I never wanted those moments to end. They were just SO precious together.

This drama made me laugh, cry, scream, and emotionally attach myself to fictional characters again. Easily one of my favorite cdramas ever and I already know I’ll keep thinking about it for a very long time.

A Yokai Drama for Tweens

Set in the Edo Period, this series tells the story of a young samurai, Kazuma (played by Mizukami Koshi) who is teaching young students at a small temple. Kazuma is the oldest of two sons, but has little interest in bushido, and secretly learns everything he can about youkai while hiding his interest from his very traditional father. He hiccups whenever youkai are around, but does not understand that that is the case until he finds a small jade amulet that allows him to see the folkloric monsters even when they do not wish to be seen by humans.

It's a short, youkai-of-the-week series in which Kazuma befriends three youkai in an abandoned storage building where one of the youkai, Amanojaku, is trapped at the start of the series. The other two youkai are a kappa (a turtle-like creature) played by Yamada Anna and a cat-like youkai named Nekomata played by Morikawa Aoi. Rounding out the principal cast is one of Kazuma's students, Ohina, who helps out Kazuma and provides the POV character for the intended audience.

It's a light, fun series that does not really go anywhere. The there's a mild romance arc for Kazuma, and an ultimate big bad who must be defeated at the end. It's a mildly enjoyable diversion overall.

Too hyped?

Its a good drama but not worth all that hype I've seen, in my opinion. At first It offers a fresh and thrilling plot with intense chemistry, and I loved It! But It gets lost toward the end, full of already seen things and It becomes a little boring. I wish we could've seen a bit more about his demon side but in a serious way. Do not get your espectation too high, and If you're in the Mood for something fun and thrilling but nothing too serious with soo much chemistry, this is a good recomnendationl.
