My May Recommendation movie

Watch this because of recommendation from ๐‘จ๐’’๐’–๐’‚. Letโ€™s discuss movieโ€ฆ

The story begins during a scorching summer in rural Yamagata Prefecture, where Tomoko and her classmates are stuck in a remedial math class. Desperate to escape the dull lectures, the girls volunteer to deliver lunch boxes to the schoolโ€™s brass band, who are away at a baseball game supporting the team. But due to a train delay and the sweltering heat, the food spoils by the time they arrive. The entire band comes down with food poisoningโ€”except for Takuya, the quiet reserve cymbal player who didnโ€™t eat his box.

With an upcoming game that requires a pep band, Takuya realizes he needs musicians fast. With no other options, he blackmails Tomoko and her friends into joiningโ€”forcing them to fill in as replacements.

At first, the girls have no musical talent nor discipline. They canโ€™t read music properly, struggle with their instruments, and treat the whole thing as a jokeโ€”or just another way to avoid remedial class. Since a full brass band needs dozens of players, Takuya decides to scale things down and turns the group into a jazz big band, assigning the girls to saxophones, trumpets, and trombones.

As rehearsals continue, the girls slowly become fascinated by jazz music. Their clumsy practices lead to many chaotic and hilarious momentsโ€”broken instruments, wrong notes, constant arguments, and embarrassing mistakes. Yet despite all the chaos, they truly enjoy it.

Just when they finally begin improving, working together and playing in harmony, the original brass band members recover and return to reclaim both their positions and instruments, leaving Tomoko and her group out in the cold.

But instead of giving up, the girls decide to form their own independent jazz band. Thereโ€™s just one problem: they have no instruments. The story follows their hilarious and determined attempts to raise money, until they finally manage to buy cheap, dented, secondhand ones. Still, they face more obstaclesโ€”no proper practice space, and no formal instructor to guide them.

Over time, the group transforms. From lazy students avoiding class, they become a real jazz band. Led by the energetic and impulsive Tomoko Suzuki, they begin practicing seriously. Through music, they build strong friendships, find confidence, and discover a sense of purpose they never had before. Jazz brings excitement into their ordinary school livesโ€”something raw, free, and entirely their own.

So, how will their journey end?
Will they manage to stay together and continue pursuing music, or will their passion eventually fade away?

That's pretty much the story without giving anymore spoilers.

What I like:
+ Tomokoโ€™s passion for jazz music is really infectious, we can feel her passion.
+ Love to see the girls transform from lazy students into talented music players.

What I donโ€™t like:
- What a BS to mastering all that instrument in that short of time.

Overall this really one interesting movie to watch

A Drama That Masterfully Crafts Ink, Betrayal, and the Weight of Legacy, What Finally Became a Shit

I just finished the drama, and honestlyโ€ฆ this drama's start surprised me in ways I never expected and i started to love it. But the second half was just a piece of shit with AI generated script๐Ÿ‚

I had no expectations going in. When I first saw the premiseโ€”a drama about the ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜ฌ ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜ฅ๐˜ถ๐˜ด๐˜ต๐˜ณ๐˜บ in Ming Dynasty Chinaโ€”my honest reaction was: "๐˜ž๐˜ฉ๐˜ข๐˜ต? I expected a dry, niche period piece about a craft I knew nothing about. But somewhere along the way, this story starts with something far more compelling.

Because beneath its beautiful cinematography, intricate ink-making sequences, and family clan politics, ๐˜›๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ ๐˜๐˜ฆ๐˜ช๐˜ณ is actually about ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐—ถ๐—น๐—ถ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฐ๐—ฒ, ๐—ฏ๐—ฒ๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜†๐—ฎ๐—น, ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐˜€๐˜ ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐—ฎ๐—บ๐—ฏ๐—ถ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป, ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐˜„๐—ฒ๐—ถ๐—ด๐—ต๐˜ ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐—ณ๐—ฎ๐—บ๐—ถ๐—น๐˜† ๐—น๐—ฒ๐—ด๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐˜†, ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—พ๐˜‚๐—ถ๐—ฒ๐˜ ๐˜„๐—ฎ๐—ฟ ๐˜„๐—ผ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ป ๐—ณ๐—ถ๐—ด๐—ต๐˜ ๐˜๐—ผ ๐—ฏ๐—ฒ ๐˜€๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐—ป ๐—ฎ๐˜€ ๐—ฒ๐—พ๐˜‚๐—ฎ๐—น๐˜€ ๐—ถ๐—ป ๐—ฎ ๐˜„๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—น๐—ฑ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฎ๐˜ ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—ป๐˜€๐˜๐—ฎ๐—ป๐˜๐—น๐˜† ๐—ฑ๐—ถ๐˜€๐—บ๐—ถ๐˜€๐˜€๐—ฒ๐˜€ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—บ. And what surprised me most is how emotionally invested I becameโ€”until the second half, when the writing began to unravel.

The drama opens with a genuinely fascinating hook. The tribute ink competition between the Li, Luo, Chen, and Pan families establishes a world where ink-making is not a humble craft but a The detail is immersive: pine soot vs. lacquer soot, the "Five Hues of Ink" test, the difference between "bone" and "soul" in a single ink stick. I learned more about traditional ink-making than I ever expected to care aboutโ€”and I ๐˜ฅ๐˜ช๐˜ฅ care.

Young Li Zhen's childhood introductionโ€”boldly stepping forward at the competition, befriending the rival Luo Wenqian, identifying ink sticks by scent aloneโ€”immediately establishes her as someone special. The tragedy that follows (the tribute boat fire, her father's death, the Eighth Branch's exile) sets up genuine emotional stakes.

The first half of this drama is The pacing is tight, the conflicts feel earned, and Li Zhen's journey from exiled outcast to independent ink-maker is beautifully constructed. Her blindfolded lampblack demonstration remains one of the most thrilling sequences I've watched in any period drama. ๐Ÿ‘

Li Zhen became one of the more compelling female leads I have watched this year. Yang Zi's acting is ๐˜‚๐—ป๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ถ๐—ฎ๐—ฏ๐—น๐—ฒโ€”no matter how frustrating the writing became later, she never stopped delivering.

What makes Li Zhen special is that her intelligence is ๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐—ฑ, not announced. She observes, learns, adapts, and survives. She fails repeatedlyโ€”her early attempts at recreating the ancient lacquer-soot ink are described as "mediocre" and "fragile." She doesn't magically succeed; she works, fails, and works again.

๐—›๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐—ณ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐—บ๐—ผ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜ comes not when she succeeds, but when she ๐˜ค๐˜ฉ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฐ๐˜ด๐˜ฆ๐˜ด to leave. After being framed for leaking the ink recipe, publicly humiliated, and watching her own family turn against her, she walks away. She refuses to sign the contract. She opens Xiao Li Ink Workshop on her own terms. That sceneโ€”her turning her back on the toxic Li householdโ€”is quiet but devastating. ๐Ÿ’ช

Howeverโ€”and this is a significant ๐˜ฉ๐˜ฐ๐˜ธ๐˜ฆ๐˜ท๐˜ฆ๐˜ณโ€”the writing does her a disservice in the second half. She transforms from a vulnerable, learning protagonist into something approaching a Problems that once took episodes to solve are resolved in single scenes. Obstacles appear and disappear with mechanical regularity. The emotional nuance of her early journey gets buried under repetitive "family schemes โ†’ Li Zhen saves the day" cycles. Yang Zi deserves better than what the script gave her ๐Ÿฅ€

I'm going to say something controversial: And I don't think the writers intended that. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

He starts as a somewhat sympathetic figure โ€” ๐˜ข ๐˜บ๐˜ฐ๐˜ถ๐˜ฏ๐˜จ ๐˜ฎ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ ๐˜ง๐˜ณ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฎ ๐˜ข ๐˜ง๐˜ข๐˜ฎ๐˜ช๐˜ญ๐˜บ ๐˜ฐ๐˜ง ๐˜ง๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ ๐˜ด๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜ท๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ต๐˜ด, desperate to prove himself, genuinely in love with Li Zhen. But his desperation curdles into obsession. The drama shows his transformation: from the man who publicly humiliated Li Zhen by conspiring to steal her family's recipe, to the ๐˜ณ๐˜ถ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ญ๐˜ฆ๐˜ด๐˜ด ๐˜ฃ๐˜ถ๐˜ด๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜ฆ๐˜ด๐˜ด๐˜ฎ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ, who burns Luo Wensong alive, to the calculating villain who sells his own sister for political connections and eventually turns to illegal foreign trade.

Yes, eventually. His schemes become repetitive. His motives become cartoonish. But at least he has motives. At least the drama tries to explain why he becomes what he becomes โ€” the humiliation of being a servant's son, the rejection by Li Zhen, the pressure from his father, the corrupting influence of power.

By contrast, Luo Wenqian is I know more about why Tian Benchang hates than why Luo Wenqian loves. I've seen this exact villain before. The "frustrated ex-lover with an inferiority complex and psychotic obsession" is not originalโ€”it is a ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—บ๐—ฝ๐—น๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฒ. And ๐˜›๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ ๐˜๐˜ฆ๐˜ช๐˜ณ never breaks that template. ๐Ÿ˜”

Let me be blunt:

His entire existence serves one purpose: to be a romantic interest for Li Zhen and to check that box for the target audience. His backstory โ€” the surviving son of the destroyed Luo family, hiding under an alias, seeking revenge against the Tian family โ€” should be ๐˜ฅ๐˜ณ๐˜ข๐˜ฎ๐˜ข๐˜ต๐˜ช๐˜ค ๐˜จ๐˜ฐ๐˜ญ๐˜ฅ. Instead, it's barely developed.

He spends most of the second half standing in the ๐˜ฃ๐˜ข๐˜ค๐˜ฌ๐˜จ๐˜ณ๐˜ฐ๐˜ถ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฅ, offering occasional support, and then suddenly disappearing for episodes at a time. His "๐˜ฎ๐˜ข๐˜ด๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ ๐˜ฑ๐˜ญ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ" to bring down the Tian family? I genuinely cannot tell you what it was beyond vague gestures and off-screen investigations. When he's finally arrested, I felt... Because the drama never made me care about his revenge. It never showed me his pain beyond a few flashbacks. ๐Ÿฅฑ

Compare him to Tian Benchang โ€” the ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฃ๐˜ด๐˜ฆ๐˜ด๐˜ด๐˜ช๐˜ท๐˜ฆ, ๐˜ญ๐˜ฐ๐˜ท๐˜ฆ-๐˜ด๐˜ค๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฅ ๐˜ท๐˜ช๐˜ญ๐˜ญ๐˜ข๐˜ช๐˜ฏ with an inferiority complex โ€” and it's genuinely difficult to tell who the drama considers more important. Tian Benchang gets emotional breakdowns. He gets scenes with his sister, his father, and his brother. He has motivations, contradictions, and an increasingly unhinged psychology.

Luo Wenqian gets... pining looks at Li Zhen. That's it. This is not a male lead. This is a ๐˜ณ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฎ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ต๐˜ช๐˜ค ๐˜ข๐˜ค๐˜ค๐˜ฆ๐˜ด๐˜ด๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ๐˜บ. And that is a waste of a potentially compelling character.

Here is where I need to be direct.
The first half of ๐˜›๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ ๐˜๐˜ฆ๐˜ช๐˜ณ are ๐—ด๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜‚๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐—น๐˜† ๐—ด๐—ผ๐—ผ๐—ฑ. The ink-making sequences are fascinating. The family dynamics feel real. Li Zhen's struggles are compelling. The pacing is tight. Sometime around Episode 20, the writing falls off a cliff. ๐Ÿ“‰

The pattern becomes: Tian family schemes โ†’ Li family faces crisis โ†’ Li Zhen solves it โ†’ small victory โ†’ repeat. There are ๐˜ข๐˜ต ๐˜ญ๐˜ฆ๐˜ข๐˜ด๐˜ต five variations of the "fish gelatin sabotage" storyline. The pine timber seizure. The isinglass crisis. The strike instigation. The false imprisonment. Each plays out almost identically.

In the second half, the drama stops being about ink and becomes about The Nanjing arc is especially guilty of thisโ€”the "Twelve-Season Inksticks" solution is clever, but the journey to get there is endless scenes of Tian Benchang bribing officials.

Tian Benchang frames his brother as the scapegoat for the contraband ink scheme. The prefect accepts this. This would ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฆ๐˜ท๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ happen under ancient Chinese lawโ€”the entire family would be implicated. The writers ๐˜ฌ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฆ๐˜ธ this (they used the same principle earlier in the drama) but ignored it for convenience. ๐Ÿ“œ

Tian Jiangyue schemes for 30 episodes with zero consequences. She finally faces accountability in Episode 28โ€”and Li Zhen ๐˜ญ๐˜ฆ๐˜ต๐˜ด ๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ ๐˜จ๐˜ฐ ๐˜ต๐˜ฐ ๐˜ข ๐˜ท๐˜ช๐˜ญ๐˜ญ๐˜ข. This is not mercy; it is the writers refusing to let a character face meaningful consequences.

Li Zhen faces crisis after crisis, but she never ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ๐˜ข๐˜ญ๐˜ญ๐˜บ loses. She never suffers a setback that costs her something permanent. Her brother stole the recipe? She tears it up and walks away. The isinglass is sabotaged? She magically has a reprocessed ink solution ready. She is arrested? Fifteen days to prove innocenceโ€”and she does. Each "crisis" follows the same arc: problem appears โ†’ Li Zhen is worried โ†’ Li Zhen solves it effortlessly โ†’ celebration โ†’ repeat.

Despite my frustrations, I cannot pretend ๐˜›๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ ๐˜๐˜ฆ๐˜ช๐˜ณ has no merits. It has several.

The ink-making sequences are not window dressingโ€”they are the soul of the drama. The burning of lampblack, the blindfold test, the glue-mixing, the hammering, the gold tracing... all of it is rendered with obvious care and research. The production clearly consulted actual ink-making masters. The cinematography is gorgeousโ€”the colour palette (blacks, deep blues, muted golds, ink wash greys) perfectly matches the ink theme.

Zhao Jin (Li Zhen's mother) is one of the most underrated characters. She is a hunter's daughter who married into a scholarly ink family, faced expulsion, lost her husband, and never stopped fighting for her children. Her backstoryโ€”meeting Li Jingfu when he fell into one of her traps, treating his wounds with Scarlet Phoenix Grass, earning Seventh Grandmother's acceptanceโ€”is quietly romantic. Her refusal to let Li Zhen carry hatred is the emotional anchor of the entire drama.

This is ironic, because he dies in Episode 7. But Luo Wensongโ€”the older brother, the ink obsessive, the man who burns his formulas rather than let enemies have themโ€”is the most *alive* character in the drama. His scene with Li Zhen before the fire ("urge him to persevere and remain unmoved by personal loss") is genuinely moving. He chooses death on his own terms. Every time the drama struggled in later episodes, I found myself missing him.

When Li Zhen shares her reprocessed ink recipe with competing workshops in exchange for their laborโ€”that is not just strategy. It is the drama's best articulation of its themes. The Huizhou ink industry survives because they help each other. The Tian family falls because they exploit everyone. This lesson feels earned after 20+ episodes of watching Li Zhen build relationships.

I need to dedicate a section to Wang Rujun, the Seventh Grandmother. She is, without question, the ๐—ฏ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜-๐˜„๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐˜๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ป ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ in the entire drama. Every scene she appears in elevates the material around her.

She is the matriarch who expelled the Eighth Branch to save the familyโ€”and never stopped quietly supporting them. She is the one who forces Li Jingdong to accept Li Zhen's talent. She is the one who sees beyond tradition and recognises that the family's future lies with a young woman the clan has rejected.

Her death in Episode 32 is the emotional peak of the entire series. Li Zhen was buying corn pastries, returning to find her grandmother had passed away peacefullyโ€”no dramatics, no last words, just the quiet end of an era. And then Li Zhen, who has held herself together through everything, finally breaks down *only in Qi Jiu's company*. That restraint is beautiful writing. The drama was never the same after she left.

I cannot ignore this. Ancient Chinese law is not complicated on this point: This principle is used multiple times in the dramaโ€”the Eighth Branch is expelled to shield the rest of the Li family from the tribute ink disaster. The Luo family is destroyed because of Luo Hanzhang's political crimes.

And yet, in Episode 36, Tian Benchang's plan to make his brother the scapegoat works. The prefect accepts it. The father colludes in it. The writers knew betterโ€”they used the correct principle earlier. They simply chose to ignore it for convenience.

This matters because ๐˜›๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ ๐˜๐˜ฆ๐˜ช๐˜ณ positions itself as a drama about historical authenticity. The ink-making sequences are meticulously researched. The costumes, the architecture, the social hierarchiesโ€”all of it is careful. But legal accuracy is abandoned whenever it becomes inconvenient. ๐Ÿ”

๐ŸŽฌ ๐—™๐—œ๐—ก๐—”๐—Ÿ ๐—ฉ๐—˜๐—ฅ๐——๐—œ๐—–๐—ง after completing the drama.

The drama has finally ended, and honestly, I did not feel much after the finale. I still think Episode 38 would have been the perfect ending point for the story. Everything after that felt somewhat unnecessary. The ink competition against the Japanese was interesting to watch, but it did not make much sense within the overall narrative.

In the end, this drama was both good and bad. It had strengths that made it memorable, but it also suffered from numerous flaws. The writing contained many inconsistencies, illogical developments, and weak plot decisions. Despite these shortcomings, the drama excelled in portraying the dynasty, the ink industry, and the cultural heritage surrounding it.

Li Zhen was undoubtedly the dark horse of the Ming ink industry. Throughout her life, she loved two men yet never married either of them. Instead, she devoted herself entirely to her art and craft.

What impressed me most was how deeply the drama explored ink-making. Ink is perhaps one of the most overlooked yet essential elements in Chinese historical dramas. Through this story, we were shown not only the importance of ink in historical China but also the spirit behind itโ€”a spirit considered more valuable than gold itself.

Even though the plot, storytelling, and some character performances were not always convincing, the drama succeeded in presenting a fascinating world centered on ink, which remained the true heart and soul of the story.

A feast for male centered people

That's it. That's the show. I admit it doesn't have an excessively shy, quivering bottom like most BL of its time, but I fear even that was a byproduct of the producers' agenda to make this as 'macho' as possible. There is only one female character in a sea of men, and she doesn't even appear that often. A lot of the men are gay, but they are all very masc. Kinn's brother is constantly put down and laughed at just because he wears flashy clothes and does his hair. And of course, there's rape, torture and manipulation that's all just sexy and fun.

Recommended if you wanna watch slowburn folklore horror.

I honestly didn't have too big expectations from this movie when I started watching it. I decided to give it a try because I was craving to see Lee Dohyun's acting, and he didn't disappoint even for a second with his acting in this movie. Compared to the other three main characters, his role might seem a little less pivotal but the way he portrayed the character of Bong-gil was really admirable. Even the hospital scene of his gave me goosebumps. I really love his versatility and how well he adapted to this role as Bong-gil. Kim Go-eun's acting was obviously great as well! I loved the aura she was giving off as Hwa-rim. Made me tear up when she was crying for Bong-gil. The acting of the main characters is the reason why I decided to rate this 7/10 overall. The story wasn't honestly that strong and some things at certain points felt lacking. The first part was really boring to watch for me but the second part? I loved every moment of it. It wasn't scary to me but a bit creepy yes... If you are into folklore horrors, this one would be good to watch!

Never give up on the one you love

I loved this drama, you saw the development to love. And then the fight to never give up upon the one you love.
The name of the drama was chosen well, they had plenty of thunderclouds above them and rainstorms to overcome.
The visuals were great and the music very good.

The mains had great chemistry and kisses.

I highly recommend this drama.

I agree with the criticism about the wasted potential.

My jaw kept dropping while reading Maleesha Madubhashini's review because I understood exactly what she meant. I've been watching Korean dramas since I was ten, and honestly, a storyline like the one she described would have been incredibly unique. The premise had the potential to become one of those unforgettable dramas people talk about for years, even decades. I've been longing for a story like that too.

That said, this is where I disagree with her. While I also wish the drama had gone in a more ambitious and powerful direction, I still think the series itself is genuinely enjoyable. It's warm, charming, and entertaining in its own way. I completely understand the frustration because we could have witnessed something far more original and compelling, but I don't think that automatically makes the drama a disappointment.

The cast is doing an excellent job with the script they were given. The female lead may not have become the ruthless, politically savvy character some viewers hoped for, but she's far from boring. She approaches life with her own carefree spirit, and she's genuinely funny and endearing. The male lead is also refreshing because he's calm, straightforward, and unafraid to express what he thinks, which I appreciate.

The music is another highlight for me. It's heartwarming and fits the emotional tone of the drama beautifully. I also believe one of the singers is Filipina, which made the soundtrack even more special to me.

Ultimately, I agree that the drama missed the opportunity to become something truly extraordinary. The premise could have supported a much deeper and more memorable story. However, I still find it a lovely and enjoyable watch for what it is, and it's one of the few recent dramas I would happily rewatch.

What a waste of potential

You cannot tell me that a professional production company was not able to find a small piece of private beach somewhere to get the scenes filmed. Even in Pattaya or Phuket there are places you can film without having white old Russian tourists in speedos walk through the frame or gawk at them.
(On the other handโ€ฆ with two God-like pale Asian males making out on a beach chair in the middle of day, they might have thought theyโ€™re shooting porn for all that they saw!)
And if so, then go have the set up at 5 am when noone can disturb or arrange a barricade of some sort. In one scene you can literally see one staff still with a script in her hand, run towards some tourists who were just minding their business walking along the beach, and frantically wave them into a different direction.
Such a waste of YunQi and HaoYirans talent, time and effort! They deserved so much more than a last minute sloppy homevideo production.
(If you tell me that this was not an actual Special Episode, but rather a video focusing on the sunscreen sponsor, Iโ€˜ll just sigh and take this back ๐Ÿ˜”)

Bizarrely addictive

First: it's not a great drama. Let's be honest. But what is a great drama? I watched it. I liked it. I even wrote a review about it. This is a total guilty pleasure show. Don't expect an Oscar level screen play. If you want smexy kisses, obsessed male lead, and can overlook weird cgi and plot holes, this is the drama for you. I can honestly say: I've never seen anything like it - and I've been looking ๐Ÿ˜‚

I really wanted to like this drama

I really wanted to like this drama because the reuters were genuinely impressive, and the two leads deliver solid performances. The core story is also passable enough to keep things moving. Unfortunately, the overall execution completely pulled me out of the experience.

The post-production is incredibly distracting. The jump cuts feel random, the framing choices are awkward, and the color grading often looks off. Instead of enhancing emotional moments, the editing constantly breaks immersion.

The writing also struggles to build a believable world. The dialogue rarely feels natural, and thereโ€™s very little character setup to help viewers understand motivations or emotional stakes. I kept asking myself why the characters were making certain decisions because the drama never properly establishes their goals or internal conflicts.

One of the biggest issues is how plot developments seem to come out of nowhere. The sudden obsession with the throne and the FLโ€™s abrupt desire for absolute power feel underdeveloped rather than earned. Important story beats are introduced without enough buildup, making the narrative feel disjointed and emotionally unconvincing.

Overall, while the cast does their best with the material, the weak storytelling and distracting production choices made this a difficult watch for me, and ultimately why I decided to drop it.

start is good goes downhill

start I liked everything rating 10 but after 7 something story wasn't satisfying from Romance to main plot to villian

start - I liked the start really I thought it would a good one but no

mid- characters are good so decided to continue even though alot keeps happening every new ep there's new victims who come for consultation then there's a villian plotting against them then there's a romance? and accidents......

romance - I thought it's gonna be slow burn start was good I thought they were ex's but they were friends , ml has crush fml doesn't, but when they meet again FML falls too fast I think? and ml rejects her because a it's related to her father death and ml father covering it and mom's side company,
only push and pull till 11? because ml can't date because of what happened to her dad he hides and rejects her ? the kiss at random moment and before confession I dislike I lost interest in them romance was the most boring in this actually, it's fast and they don't date atleast till 11 but kiss many times

FML fashion is really good in this she looks pretty but it disappears in middle I like when FML don't dress up too plain ,or poor or only formal clothing but feminine, I really liked her in the start but poorly written in sense of romance

i really liked the comedy in the start it also disappears later

what I dislike
they show in detail all the victims that come for consultation these take half of the eps , then there's crime alot, and villian side always doing something I got bored story could've been better
romance is fast, push pull I know they're in that situation but still

the ml father and the mom company involved wasn't enough? their fight continues with the mom's brother? so much happening at one time ? this all comes in between the romance and the reason of push and pull I thought it will end didn't expected another villian to pop up

Important noted for this drama

Please watch at least 2โ€“3 episodes before judging this drama. Don't pay attention to the hate comments, as some of them come from people who dislike the actor and don't want the drama to succeed.

You might think it's a little silly at first, but trust me, it's incredibly good and addictive. I've watched each episode more than five times already because I can't get enough of it! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Loved it more than Weak Hero Class

Normally, I don't write reviews at all. But I'm so surprised that Weak Hero class 1 is rated 9+ while this series is rated below 9. So unfair. It's so better than Weak Hero Class 1 & 2 combined.
What a beautiful revenge story. Performance of bullies was so good that you actually hate them. Bravo!!

The Road to Mortality

Lu Qianqiao is the last surviving war demon. His race was punished by the gods for disrespecting heaven's laws. Thus, the man is cursed to an existence deprived of taste, color, pain, and rest, and is subject to periodic spells of hot-blooded mania. He helps Xin Mei, a low-level cultivator from Tianyuan Sect, break a widow's curse, but forms a longer entanglement with her than he initially intended. She becomes invested in his cause and helps him face the agonizing five transformations he must undergo to break the war demon's curse.

Fate Chooses You is a xianxia with a surprisingly interesting premise: instead of seeking immortality, the hero's journey follows the road to mortality. Across many plot arcs, the narrative explores what it means to be human and how, in the process of seeking immortality, cultivators lose their humanity along the way. Because the ladder to heaven has been closed since the death of the Jianmu tree, the power level of even the most advanced cultivators in this story has not yet reached deity level. This makes the stakes in any battle higher; no outcome is a foregone conclusion simply because of skill level. Good battle tactics can even out an imbalance in cultivation levels.

While Lu Qianqiao and Xin Mei do fall deeply in love from a marriage of convenience, their romance does not drive the plot. In some ways, this is to be expected of a Ren Jialun drama! But both lead character stories are well written. Even though Xin Mei aids Lu Qianqiao on his journey, she also has her own path that often takes her on separate missions. I really enjoy her independence, agency, and free will. Every time she returns to his side, it is because she chooses to, and they protect each other from the hypocrisy and judgment of the cultivation sects. While this isn't that heavy on romance, I did enjoy Ren Jialun and Wang Herun's chemistry. This is my first Wang Herun dramaโ€”she is a very engaging and natural young actress.

While the narrative is strong through most of the drama, it doesn't finish as well as I would have liked. I expected this to be a journey to mortality, not perfection. Lu Qianqiao made a very consequential, life-changing sacrifice too casually, without any explanation or closure for Xin Mei. I was super angry on her behalf; that she wasn't asked or even told and he didn't seem to feel sad enough. Maybe that is on Ren Jialun's acting but that final decision is my main beef with the story - that he shortchanged her when it mattered. It felt like a betrayal to me. I was also expecting an epic final battle, but it turned into a walkover, leaving a sense of anticlimax. I know I am in the minority, but to me, the ending was profoundly sad and not deserved.

Still, this is a very solid dramaโ€”one that could have been a lot better had the storytelling held up into the finale. It is a recommended watch that I rate 7.5/10.

Oh, please...

This is the second time I've tried to watch this. The basic premise is that an average woman is somehow so irresistible. Who are they trying to kid? Neither of the leads is attractive, let alone someone that stops traffic.

I can't comment on the acting ability of the leads. Frankly, I found the FL unbelievable and extremely insufferable. The male lead, I just can't say.

I don't think I can get through another episode let alone the entire show. Can't say that too often.

Waste Of Time & FL Abuse

One of those horrible stories that used to be popular for whatever reason where the FL is just a doormat to the ML & constantly choked and/or abused somehow.... 0/10 if I could post that as a rating itself. Seriously, don't waste your time on this one if you're looking for a good story. I hated it and I usually love these leads, especially together.
