It's not perfect but has it's good points

It's not perfect but has it's good points. I just read a few other reviews and oh my God some are just unforgiving. Sometimes things that appear wrong are really art and expressionism. It's probably not the case here but it does help make the experience more enjoyable... and that's what it's all about. Right? My unsung hero from this series is OLAN. I almost wanted Ben to wind up with Olan. I also felt that Jim wanted more lines and more of a script to show his talents. The Ben character, well he certainly did a good job showing his feelings for Jim. The biggest plus was the ending and how they used Truth to settle all of the Drama was great. It's a very good ending message too, especially for young viewers. Theme song was very good but a bit overused. They could have made variations and expanded the life of the theme. It was a good tune though.

Not romantic at all, not even 1%

This was one of the most ridiculous lackhorns I have ever seen and I’ve seen a lot. There was no real plot. The main lead (couple) Boulder get along for 99.8% of the series. The hated each other, then he stopped hating her but she kept hating/bickering with him/saying hateful things to him until the very last episode. I’m not saying she didn’t have a reason to dislike him but to watch the hateful/spitefulness from ep 1-34 (entire series) is a bit too much.

Let’s talk about how things played out in terms of the unification. It’s somewhat believable from a dramaland standpoint it when you look at the overall scene, it’s quite degrading.

If your looking for something romantic keep going, it ain’t here at all. Not an ounce, not even 1%. I gave it a 5 star for the music and acting but the story/script/plot was honestly just trashy.

Spoiler below

Our ML essentially marries someone while maintaining his girlfriend. She was always around even for dinner and occasional pop ins. Even if it’s marriage in name only, the events are not only unbelievable but ridiculous. It’s laughable but can’t even be looked at as a comedy. It’s like watching a person driving the wrong way on the road with a smile on their face. You in turn raise your eyebrows and twist your lip, like what the heck is going on.

Something Missing

Like most people, I'm here cause Thai BL actors Tommy and Jimmy lol I also couldn't pass up the rare international coupling. Anyway, so the story was all the way there! Definitely not cliché or tacky. It actually had a story I hadn't seen before and even though it had an inevitable ending, I can't help but feel something's missing... Not sure what though. Longer eps probably would've helped a bit. lol Overall it was really sweet and heartfelt. Lessons can be learned from this and that's the best part of drama's like this.
I'd recommend to anyone who wants some light BL.
Enjoy...

I don't really think I can write something about it. It was really, really intense, but I will try to write as much passive as I can.
The story is nothing new, is a type of Hunger Games more or less, the plot even the whole building of the characters and their relationships. But actually it is a analogy to our world, where a lot of people believe that they can step in the bodies of others to succeed and they do it. But in the end, if you are poor, you have to stay like that and the rich dectate your life... Maybe this is my own interpretation. This analogy, this absolutely crazy story is trying, with the most horific way, to tell that this isn't the solution. Even if you step on everyone, this system is designed for you to fail or to became on of them.

Ok, in the more prominent staff. Exceptional shots, photography, scenery (the colourful stairs, oh my god). And also amazing music and acting. At last, I really don't think it needs a season 2 (nothing official, just the way it ends it surely gives that vide). Some stories need a final end. And it is enough. But, with all this success (do you know how huge is for a k-drama be no1 in Greece? Here, they don't even acknowledge BTS' success), I'm almost sure they will continue. And I really, really don't want that.

Since release I've watched it 208 times!

Update as of today 10/9/22 - I have watched this 208 times since release! Since Viki put the show on I have watched it so many times. Previously I watched it on blitzfansub.com

Original Review: 9/2/2021

I can’t even begin to tell you how much I love this little drama. I found it the day the first episode came out on January 14, 2020. I have watched this more times than any other show or movie in my 46 years of life! For me It’s definitely obsessive!

I bought the DVD box set back last year. I’ve have purchased and read the manga so to be able to see the drama adaptation makes it that much sweeter! I actually have a Satoh/Tendo Tattoo.

Satoh and Mone have so much chemistry. I watched them together in a previous comedy but this drama was written for them. I know Satoh is known for his action films which I love but for me romantic drama and comedies hit the mark! No one else could play Tendo and Mone is Nanase 100%. Due to Mone's age they changed some of it from the manga and normally I don't like when a book, manga, novel is changed but they did it right.

The supporting cast is awesome as well! The clothing and sets were great! The theme song is my ringtone!

Please Don't Let The Negative Comments Sway You!

Honestly, I'm writing this review purely to encourage others to give this show a go! I really thought I wasn't going to enjoy it because of all the negative comments and reviews I read beforehand (plus, I can be a harsh and picky critic). But, I was pleasantly surprised.

Story: Obviously, this drama isn't flawless - it would have gotten a higher rating if it wasn't for my own nitpicking. However, it really isn't as bad as everyone says. At all. I would only say stay away from this drama if you're only interested in light, cute, fluffiness. It has these moments, but it also has quite a bit of angst. Which would be expected from the premise alone. I cried a lot and I was extremely invested in the lead characters.

Acting: I sincerely thought the acting was pretty good! I hate how there are people who automatically assume idols can't act or judge them unfairly. I like some Red Velvet songs but I've never been a stan. So I didn't have any biased opinions on her or see her as an 'idol' while watching. I love how she portrayed her character and I didn't find her acting awkward at all. The ML and FL had amazing chemistry also, I'm going to miss them as a couple.

Music: Great soundtrack - I don't have much to say on this except that it was a little repetitive.

Rewatch Value: Usually, I will rate this part low if there was a lot of angst but I loved the couple so much that I probably will rewatch it just for them in the future!

Waste Of Time

I found this drama a waste of my time. We get put thru the high school years and college years of these characters. The lead female can only act as a spoil child with hot temper. At first I thought her character would be strong minded but her temper and tantrums were discouraging. Her liking and obsession with the second lead male was ridicules and un-realistic. The second lead falls for a different girl and she put up with it for years in college and determine to be their friend while she still likes him. No Way!!!!! The lead male as much as he does not understand girls especially the lead female who is a friend from his neighborhood and he is in love with her. He treats her abusive and sarcastic. It's his way of showing his love. As much he helped her and was there for her because he loved her she could only see the second male lead "Cheng Lang". Until the last episode were all of the suddenly they are in love and he proposes to her on her friends wedding. Taking away her friends special day. This was not my kind of drama. Not Romantic. Strange love couples, I hate when they leave everything to the last Episode and 10 minutes before it ends everything becomes perfect. The writers of this drama did not do research to give these characters a better story.

It takes a village to raise a kid!!

I really think “It takes a village to raise a kid!!” should be the proper title of this series because this is what it is all about.

All of the characters revolve around the lead HZY and invest their tears and blood into him in hope of making him grow up and take responsibility eventually. For the first few episodes the story seemed to be interesting, reflecting the harsh reality of becoming a popular actor. However, as the story dragged on, it’s all about the repeated theme of bad things happened to HZY, he reacted badly out of immaturity and egoistic personality, people around him tried their best to resolve his problems then back to step one, repeating all over again. Yes, the character needs some difficulties in order to overcome it, creating the sense of connection to the audience so we can invest emotionally into him and wish him to overcome all obstacles. But the lack of improvement - AKA character development is really irritating. HZY is nothing but a spoiled brat at his late 20s living amongst his caretakers which totally appears to be illogical.

On the other hand, the acting skill of all actors and actresses are natural and up to the point. The problem isn’t with the acting skill but with the plot. I was incredibly disappointed with this series even if I enjoyed the first few episodes. I’ve watched to ep 25 now and consider quitting it.

It Sucks But Has At Least One Redeeming Quality

Where to start? This show was a whole ass train wreck of nonsense to be quite honest. So many of the plots made no damn sense and were really rushed for some unknown reason. If there would have been like two or three introduction episodes than things would have made more sense but literally nothing made any sense at all. I will say though that episodes nine and ten were the entire reason I gave this series a 4/10 instead of a 0/10. The chemistry between the actors who played Kaeng and Puth was incredible. I would have liked for their relationship to have been developed more but it didn't feel too rushed. I would love to see both of these actors star in another drama together or a spinoff about Kaeng and Puth. Other than that, there's no reason to watch this show. Be mindful though that their episodes are a tiny bit more explicit with the whole 'friends-with-benefits' theme.

It's a Super Good Show But It Has It's Issues

The overall plot is actually really interesting in terms of Type's trauma and his developing relationship with Tharn. The chemistry between Tharn and Type is also very much so immaculate. My main problem with this show and something that you should be aware of before watching it is the extreme sexual assault. Tharn sexually assaults Type numerous times during the series.

*Spoilers Ahead*
In the first episode where Type is unconscious and Tharn is kissing his body or the shower scene in episode two or three in which Tharn forces himself upon Type. All of it is really creepy and it never get's talked about. Tharn also has some super toxic and manipulative character traits.
*End Spoilers*

If you take every action and interaction with a grain of salt, than I think you can really enjoy it but beware of some themes that are rather undesirable. Again, the acting is great and parts of the story are really compelling; the sexual assault is just a non-starter for some people and before you get too deep into the show, you should be mindful of it.

A touching story!

A hidden gem: great acting by all actors especially child the actor of Geum Bi. If you want to watch a masterpiece, sad, family drama with characters development, this is the show for you. Every line and every scene is beautifully crafted, i could really feel the emotions of the characters and their situation. As much sad it is, its even more hearting warming and endearing. Truly a beautiful articulated drama.

Geum Bi character showed that having willingness to help other will change them in a better way. I love how she changed everyone around slowly. It was great to see that.

Fake Sports Drama

If you're watching for the Go part of this drama, you will most likely be disappointed. It's really just a fluffy romance drama targeting a middle schooler's romantic fantasy (or at least what the writer thinks is one anyway). The only difference is they use Go as a backdrop to make the story unique. 75% of the matches were depicted as CGI action fighting scenes. It really felt like an insult cuz they were like "no one is going to be watching for the actual Go stuff so let's just dumb it down and show fighting scenes instead." One or two animated battles would have been nice to add humor or be dramatic, but they overdid it. Most of these fight scenes were lame and absolutely unnecessary.

This drama is extremely cliché. Of course there are some cute moments, but a lot of times I was cringing cuz of the corniness. Let's just say it felt like it was artificially sweetened. The Female Lead is also kind of dumb and ditzy so that was a disappointment for me. I didn't really care about the main couple. My favorite character was the 4th Dan girl. Most of her scenes were amusing. As for the pacing of the drama, the 2nd half is very draggy, especially the last quarter of the drama. It really was a struggle to finish. Overall, this lands under so bad it's good territory. I would recommend it as a good hate watch or something to watch with friends so you can make fun of it. Maybe skip the last 10 episodes though.

THE SHOW THAT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE-My first ever review

This is my first ever review on this website, because I just can't help how much in love I am with this drama.
I have already left essay worthy comments on this drama, but I feel it also deserves a stellar review, so here goes:

Acting 10/10: This is only the second Song Joong Ki drama I've seen. But Song Joong Ki's character is so beautifully still in this show, he never fidgets, never gets startled, never loses control of his body movements, and it's a very strong character mentally as well. It's an absolute delight to watch all the episodes again and notice minute changes in his expression to the events around him, and he really manages to exude a natural intelligence and air of authority. His character gradually learns to love, and also accept that he is worthy of receiving love, and his actions show that clearly towards the end. In the beginning he is arrogant and distant without being mean in any way, and towards the end he is loving and caring without being suffocating in every way. The perfect character development. Also his deep voice is so hypnotic at many points of time, I'm convinced that's the main reason I unexpectedly loved his character from start to finish. I have become a fan of Song Joong Ki's acting after this show.

Jeon Yeo Been, MY QUEEN, is the BEST female character ever written, ever performed, ever shown on screen. She is fiery, sassy, bright, sexy, logical, brave, quick-witted, savage, sharp tongued, and beautiful beyond compare. She matches wit with everyone around her, is funny as all hell, her voice is SO hot. She never hesitates to express what she's feeling, and loves her dad despite what happened in her past. She is protective of those around her, and willing to go to any length to achieve her goals. I am IN LOVE with Hong Cha Young and Jeon Yeo Been and this is the main reason I gave the show a 10/10.

Their relationship is EXACTLY what I want in my life. They are best friends, so honest with each other, soft around each other, support each other, communicate so damn well, they TRUST each other, believe in each other, take care of each other without it being toxic in any way, and there is NO malice, NO games, NO hidden agendas anywhere between them. They also tease each other, and never fail to bicker endlessly.
In the simplest sense, it's the PINNACLE of romance, because every single glance and touch and dialogue leaves you to BEG for more. It's pining but also SO satisfying because I cherish every smile, every action that tells everyone around them that they are a unit, a team, a couple. It's realistic because they are both logical and understanding of their circumstances, and you can clearly see the struggle they both have with their feelings, one wants to love but is afraid that the other person has to leave, the other wants to love but is afraid he will have to leave.
The ending was quite satisfactory according to me.

Other factors I want to note:
Cinematography 10/10 Just WOW. The fashion, the shots, the bars/cafes they meet in, all beautiful.
OST 10/10 I have been listening to the ost on repeat even while working, just IN LOVE with it.
Story 9/10 The zig-zag storyline was great to watch, but could've been slightly better if less background character involvement was there.
Cast 10/10 Each and every single actor did their best, and their chemistry was off the charts, insanely good.
Background characters 10/10 Most of the side-characters are interesting and fun to watch. Villains did an awesome job.
Neo-Noir vibe was on POINT. Loved the ode to black and white gangster films, I think SJK nailed that part too.

OVERALL 10/10. I have already seen this show two times.

great cast, eerie story

As someone who's a big fan of Alice in Borderland, this genre suite my taste perfectly. It's so eerie in a nonchalant way, how each individual factor of the cinematography contributes to the unsettling mood. The music fit in so perfectly, I'm honestly such a big fan.
As mentioned in some other reviews, it started off strong and caught my attention however the ending and last few games felt too fast. The ending becomes more and more expected after the halfway mark--which makes it less climatic as it could be. (which doesn't really do some of the characters justice)
On the bright side, the casting is absolutely amazing; I was highkey cringing at the VIPs' acting,,,that english and the things they said were so cringey I would rather have them be Asian people or just Korean. The main casting was really great, I'm glad they didn't decide to cast anyone who was super well known or the go-to norm popular actors/actresses. Seeing new faces (some of them were, at least) was really refreshing :) Also i love how we're seeing more of Wi Hajun these days;; he's very eye candy and gives such manly vibes; i support LOL
This series really makes you question your morals and how you would react if you placed yourself in their shoes... the human instinct and selfishness is very complicated; so I couldn't exactly say I hated any of the characters for acting the way they did (ahem sangwoo smh).
All in all, Squid Game was incredibly good, I'd certainly like to see more of it. The cinematography is beautiful (they understood the assignment alright), the music was such a great contribution, and the casting was the icing on the cake. Great film overall, I highly recommend watching!

fluff!! perfect for a one time watch

Chinese dramas always have the weirdest plots especially around animals and I'm really not complaining! This is one of the good ones.
The show description looks like it's gonna be childish but they really made it work, somehow this show was pretty interesting and full of fluff. It's nothing too life-changing but perfect for a one-watch. The story has a few flaws here and there. But overall it makes it fun and cute throughout.
The relationship of the leads is so cute! I love how the female lead learned things quickly. The male lead was also kinda different from what is usually seen, his character development was nice to see.
There are no parts where I was bored or felt annoyed per se, which is great. But the fact that the drama is kinda hollow and doesn't do justice for some parts of the storyline is what leads me to reduce points. There are also some tropes thrown in when the writer got nothing else to write about.
Inconsistency in the storytelling was so evident which made me a bit confused about the story.
I love the actors! They all did so well especially the female lead. She's extremely pretty and a human "cat" character suited her very well! The casting is very well done.
The osts are all pretty and relaxing! I enjoyed hearing them.
Overall a good watch. Would recommend.
