What a cast! This is by far one of the cutest dramas I have seen, and my first KDrama. It's not the absolute best, but it has a very special place in my heart.

Park Shin Hye was great as both the fake and real Go Mi Nam. Her expressions were on point and she's great at emotional scenes as well.
I, like many, fell in love with adorkable Jeremy.
As much as I love Jung Yonghwa, his role felt a bit too lifeless. I think the fact that he was new to acting showed a bit. However, I liked Shin Woo over Hwang Tae Kyung. Although Jang Keun Suk's acting was perfect, the character was far from it. I felt that he was too harsh and I didn't like him a lot as a person.
However, all of the characters did have their moments.
I was also a little unsatisfied with the ending. I feel that if they had cut it off a few scenes earlier, it would have been perfect.

The music was another highlight, and the only thing that got a perfect score from me. It's been years, but I still sing some of the music from this drama - something very rare for me.

As much as I have criticized... The funny parts were hilarious. The melodrama wasn't too lengthy. The romance was cute. If only we could have seen more of the "real" Go Mi Nam.
I definitely recommend it if you want a lighthearted and sweet drama.

So, I've been really holding off writing reviews for my favorite dramas, but I felt that it was time to let the MDL community know what I thought about this drama ;) I love the story of this drama, because it gives normal people a chance to see what the life of an idol really is like, well, as alike as a drama would show. The story is cute, but the writing is a little "Hm." There are many times throughout this drama that the character has to verbally say what they are thinking, usually things that didn't need to be verbally told when the audience just could have guessed or figured out naturally. I loved the chemistry between the two leads. They're the sort of couple you would never imagine to fall for each other; a wannabe bad boy, and a nun...hm. I thought that the cast did great. It was cool to see some FT Island and CNBlue, and I liked how the idols in this drama weren't particularly the main leads, but still had an important role in this drama. I loved the characters in this drama. Each one was unique in their own way. I've already rewatched this drama more than once, so I really loved it, but on a non biased level, I would rate the rewatch value at 6. It was a cute drama, which I loved, but I thought it was lacking a bit in the writing department. By the end of the drama I was literally plugging my ears when the dialogue turned to the characters voicing out their thoughts. Overall, adorable drama. I highly recommend seeing it. Don't let the weird character lines bug you one bit. I loved this drama. It was cute, and lighthearted, and one of the most innocent romances I have ever seen.

As everyone knows today is valentines day, so i though that re-watching this drama for this day won't be time wasting at all. This was my first step to korean world and it had gotten me so crazed up that I've even faced a time when i faked being sick just for the sake of bunking school to watch this :P. For any one who has not yet watched it, it is my advice to stop yourself from doing everything right now and watch it! It had the most perfect taste of romance in it and also not to forget had an amazing chemistry between the lead, such that which made me almost think all of this was real. Jung YongHwa had the most saddest role through out the drama, which made me move to tears each time. Lee Hong Ki was a perfect definition you give to a lolita type boy ^_^! He individually made me laugh through out the whole drama but in the end his scene was a bit too miserable to handle. Jang Keun Suk portrayed his character in a complete flawless manner. His smile actually made my heart pound like go mi nam's :P Reading the posted comments in the You're Beautiful page I've seen people posting a lot about how much they hated Park Shin Hye's character. Personally i do not think any one other than her could have made a better role for this character. Her character was meant to be a bit dumb and oblivious to the world, and confused about almost anything and everything. She definitely played her parts in a perfect manner. This drama is more of like a fantasy rather than reality based. It made me feel like i was watching a movie about this poor girl who had three princes falling head over heals for her and treating her like a princess, and she ends up with prince arrogant leaving behing prince charming and prince adorable :D So story amazing, cast out standing , music....i still have them in my music listening device , re-watch value....well i dont even have track of how many times i've already re- watched this :P Over all definite 10!! It is my earnest request to you to give this drama try if you yet haven't. You can watch this is dramacrazy.net for those who can't vie it in viki.con due to regional problem. Thank you! I hope my review has encouraged you to watch this magnificent Oscar deserving drama :D

Yet again another gender bender romance, and yet again i fell in love with this drama. How does this happen? I read the plot, roll my eyes, give it a go and end up loving the cliche'd dramas. I guess they know what they're doing.

Strangely I really liked the cliche'd story, the nun pretending to be her twin brother to play in a boy band. Haha even that sounds weird. I marathoned the first half of this but then it started to lose it's plot a little and the end was very rushed. I felt a bit dissatisfied coming away from this drama, there's no follow up and I just didn't get the happy ending I wanted.

Cast-wise they were all great, although they looked really young for the age i presume they were playing (18-20) though this could be a cultural difference. This sounds like a minor thing but I just couldn't take them all seriously and I couldn't connect with it very well. Also I had second lead syndrome, Shinwoo (Jung Yong-hwa) and Jeremy seem better characters than the lead, who predictably is an arrogant jerk.

The music was also really good, it really fit the whole drama.

I'd recommend this drama to anyone who wants a sweet funny romance, just be prepared for the loose ends at the ending and the cliches.

The show hasn't aged well

You're beautiful is from 2009. I might have thought it was okay if I'd watched at that time, but watching it in 2021 made me see that it didn't age well. The clothes, the hairstyles, the filming - they all left a lot to be desired.

The story was okay, but the execution was lacking. There was so much repetitiveness in this show, at times I wondered if I'd accidentally not forwarded to the next episode.

As for the acting - jang Geun Suk at Tae Kyung was one-dimensional. He just looked angry throughout the whole show. There was no growth in his character. I loved him in Love Rain, so I know he can act, but it wasn't happening in this show.

By far the worst part of this whole mess was Park Shin Hye as Mi Nam and Mi Nyeo. She was extremely irritating throughout. Her character was a mess. They had her do things that I'm thinking they were hoping would come across as cute, but they didn't. From the way she walked to the way she talked, everything irked me. Shin Hye overacted her way through this - either wide-eyed, downcast, or bawling her eyes out, everything was just too over the top. I've seen her in more recent works and she's pretty good, so she has improved over the years.

I had a good time watching this, but it was honestly something that really had to grow on me. At the start, it was chock full of cliches, over-acting, and really ridiculous plot points — which is a huge thing that annoys me about old dramas, because it just makes the main character seem like a complete idiot.

Watching this drama and comparing it to her later dramas...you can also really see how much Park Shin Hye has improved over the years. Part of why I disliked the main character so much at the start was because her voice was in constant aegyo and there were weird, unnatural facial expressions that might've been an attempt at humor.

But the plot actually got better, and I really enjoyed the development of the characters. Even the main lead, who started off really mean, turned out to be quite lovable and understandable. I was fully prepared to be suffering through SLS the entire drama but that did not happen.

A lot of the issues were very cliche, especially since cross-dressing identity secret plot comes with a lot of cliches of its own. But the humor made it a lot better, and none of the plot points were dragged out for too long.

Didn’t age well

This drama def didn't age well. After finishing this all I can say is SLS is strong. Why on earth would Mi Nam continue to fall for the Tae Kyung and his prickly, rude and often downright childish behavior! Yes Tae Kyung helped her oftentimes but his ego and pride really was awful. Shin Woo was so caring and helped Mi Nam without the drama. Shin Woo deserved better!
The FL's behavior also got very annoying after awhile. It's understandable that bc she only grew up in the nunnery orphanage (and as a result wanted to become a nun) the character would be very mousy. But after the umpteenth time of "sorry" and meek behavior bc she lead a cloistered life i just had it with her.

I was fairly surprised by how good this drama is. I am not a very big fan of gender bender roles, but I decided to give this a chance after watching 'Sungkyunkwan Scandal' and 'Hana Kimi'. It was not at all disappointing.

Although the plot is guillable, the cast isn't. If it hadn't been a good cast I would have given up on this show in the first episode itself. It was funny right from the funny episode so I decided to continue it.

I really, really liked it. All the characters grew on me slowly and now it is definitely one of my favorite dramas. The only character I didn't like was Go Mi Nam. I wasn't a fan of hers. I get that she was about to be a nun and all, but that doesn't mean she has to be all that clueless about things. Also, I didn't like the way she was with the other nicer guys who genuinely loved her compared to Tae Kyung. He was overly domineering, harassing and downright offensive. I didn't like the fact that the girl was a total pushover. She seemed to lack self-respect and pride but she had plenty of selfishness. I didn't buy her angel-like innocent side.

Jeremy was probably the best character by the end of the show. He had more sides and depth to him than others had. He was kind, loving, caring and equally funny and entertaining. I would have probably chosen him over the other two. Shin Woo was alright but he had no personality other than his overly cheesy romantic side. It just didn't touch me. And I did like Tae Kyung- he did some pretty great things for Go Min Nam/Nyu but I think had it been Jeremy or Shin Woo, they would have probably done the same for her. So I kind of question this "one and only one" when it comes to his case.

The writing of the show is just alright. It lacked originality. All the sub-plots and ideas have been overly used. The direction of the show was also pretty alright. So because of a lack of original story line, it is not going to be the best drama I have seen so for.

It did get pretty lackluster in the last few episodes, but it was still a better show than so many others I have been recently watching.

'You're Beautiful' has everything a first-time drama watcher should see. Interesting characters and an interesting story.

The relationship between Shin Woo, Go Mi Nam (Nyu) and Tae Kyung is perfectly depicted. The actors are outstanding, though Go Mi Nam's character is too cliché, sometimes.

So the only thing missing in the story, with the excellent mixture of subplots and overall synopsis, is that it sometimes gets too... obvious. Because Go Mi Nam's character is so very basic, you can tell what she's going to do.

What kept me watching these series is the three original members of their fictional band, A.N.Jell. I am probably not the only one who developed a motherly feeling towards them all.

Jang Geun Suk who plays Tae Kyung really doubled the score, though. To see him actually smile, was a golden moment. That is what you should look for in this. Tae Kyung's marvelous transformation from a cold bad-asser to a... cute, hurt boy. Him growing up alongside more and more information that gets revealed about his past, the viewer will from the very start feel for him.

You're Beautiful is something you should really watch if you'd like to see a top notch actor in action. Jang Geun Suk is magical.

This is a hugely popular cross-dressing rom-com about a sheltered nun who fills in for her twin brother as a member of a popular boy band. Outrageous, addictive, quick paced and wildly romantic, this tops the lists as a must watch.

You're Beautiful is stuffed with outrageous situations and intense love triangles. It covers most of the cliches in the book and altogether stands as one of the least realistic romances I've seen. If you reflect on just what happened in any particular episode, you'll realize "Wow, what the heck did I just watch?" However, it all adds up to be one of the most engaging, infatuating, enjoyable dramas in recent years. It wholly deserves it popularity and can easily be rewatched multiple times (because you will want to share this series with friends).

The casting was spot-on, the use of music was incredibly, emotionally effective, and the storyline gleefully oversteps the line of "cautious" to throw everything and anything at the leads. It's great as a first drama to introduce to newbies or as a pick me up after a tough day.

I've recently rewatched this drama, and I still admit that it's the best one out of the most popular Korean dramas (Boys Over Flowers, The Heirs, Playful Kiss etc.)

Go Mi Nam is very oblivious, kind of childish, pure and innocent (well the girl was going to become a nun after all so no surprise here). At times she can irritate you with her dumbness, but even I liked her, even though I usually hate female leads in dramas. This one is pretty bearable. I honestly think Go Mi Nam's character loses much charm because of Park Sin Hye's bad acting skills.

Hwang Tae Gyeong is an aßhole. But he's a likeable aßhole. Or maybe it's just me with a weird taste in main male leads. Anyway, Tae Gyeong is basically a tsundere with many emotional roller coasters. And he has some serious issues with expressing his feelings right. And oh my God, am I the only one who gets creeped out by Jang Geun Seok's pedo smile? Oh, and by his acting. Because it's not very good in this drama.

Now, let's move on to my favourite character, Gang Sin Woo. Ah, my dear oh-so-lonely-and-miserable Sin Woo. Seriously, besides Yun Ji Hu in "Boys Over Flowers", I don't think I've ever seen such an emo character in a drama. The guys has clearly some problems with himself. He should get his shiet together as soon as possible, otherwise he may end up in a mental hospital. Well, at least he'll be able to make friends with Yun Ji Hu there. And holy shiet, Jeong Yong Hwa's acting is the worst thing I've ever seen in my life. My eyes bleed every time I look at his failed attempts to act. He's acting is horrible. Please, just get him out of my sight. Please.

Jeremy. Well, first of all, he should stop being such a pußy. Just because someone doesn't feel the same way you do doesn't mean they betrayed you. Oh, boy. You need some serious help. Righ now.

I hate it when this drama gets to around episode 13, because then the real shiet-angst goes down, and
Go Mi Nam and Hwang Tae Gyeong cry in every episode till the very end of the series. Really now? Really?

Overall, I think it's a pretty good drama. If you won't like the plot, then I promise you'll at least enjoy laughing at the bad acting. And also you're enjoy the OST for sure, because this drama has some really good songs.

Although it's been years since I originally watched this, as I was browsing through my list I came across it once again and felt it was about time I write a review. I'm not one to normally write reviews for anything I've watched (probably more due to laziness than anything else) but this show truly deserves to be honoured for being one of the first Korean dramas I watched that continued my addiction to KDrama.

One of the main things that drew me in about this drama is most likely the cast, who although at the time I hadn't heard or seen in anything else, immediately drew me in with their fantastic acting and brilliant cast chemistry. This would be the drama that produced my love for the bands CN Blue and F.T Island, as well as a new found interest in Jang Geun Suk.

The story, although highly unrealistic, was funny in all the right places and easy to appreciate and really get attached to. The relationships between all the characters were adorably cute, including that of Jeremy (Hong Ki) and Shin-woo (Yong Hwa). Park Shin Hye, although an actress that is to this day much discussed, played the role of Gom Min Nam fantastically, and I applaud her for her performance in this drama.

Though I'd not heard much Korean music besides that of Boys over Flowers, I loved hearing performances from all of the cast members, especially the classically cute solo performance from Shin-woo.

If you have yet to dive into the world of You're Beautiful, don't hesitate as this may just be the next drama you fall in love with! It still to this day has an incredibly special place in my heart :)
