"A love story between a professional hitman and his next target."??? Nope. The synopsis is just misleading and you will grow old and die before you get to see any romance in this movie.

The story is nothing fancy, nor original. In fact it can easily fall under the category "a dime a dozen". It's your typical action flick, with lots of bullets, knives and fists flying around, tons of red paint read more and zero emotions. If anything, both male and female leads' attempts to cry make for a good reason to laugh. Jang Dong Gun-shi, please don't cry! Ever again! You'll only ruin your image. Stick to what you do best, you were kind of cool in some of the fight scenes.
I can't say too much without spoilers, but the main characters are just not convincing enough. Their motivations, choices and reactions don't feel right.

The dialogues bounce between English and Korean, even though I can't see why that would be a plus for the movie. It felt more like showing off than a way to give authenticity to the characters. Heck, at some point they even throw in a bit of Spanish for the "Wow!" effect. Too bad it had the opposite impact, at least for me. On the bright side, if you understand English and basic Korean, you can give the movie a try even with no subs. You don't really need them, no food for though that you might miss here.

I guess guys could like "Crying Man". And girls, provided they are bored or have no choice (because of the guys LOL). Watch if you are a fan of action movies or of Jang Dong Gun (this being his comeback after 2 years).

Don't watch if you don't like violence and blood splashing on your screen! If you are looking for a profound, meaningful story, if you like complex characters or if you were just tempted by the synopsis, don't waste your time!

This film sporadically flips back and forth between glimpses of the lead character's pitiful childhood and the happier memories of the mother with her daughter. The contrast is heartbreaking.

Unfortunately, the film spent too much time focusing on the back story of these emotionally torn characters instead of hard core action. The hit man, Gon and the mother, Mo-Gyeong are in their own private anguish yet entwined because he decides to protect read more her. Defending her from his boss is when the action in the movie amps up. It just takes awhile to get there.

The depressed finality in Gon makes him more brutal. The fight sequences were graphic and the pools of blood extreme. Jang Dong-gun did a good job with Gon’s merciless demeanor while fighting. His resolve made him an invincible opponent. The director highlights this once when they cut away from an impending fight only to show the aftermath of his skills. I was impressed by the assumption that the result of the fight had a foregone conclusion.

There was a big array of gangsters in this film. I didn't particularly like the swearing tantrums of one of the bad guys because it seemed overly dramatic and silly. The menacing nature of another underling was better suited to the general tone of the gangsters. My favorite baddie was Choaz, an ex-associate of Gun's. They had the more entertaining interactions in the movie. It was a relationship I would have liked to have seen more of.

It was interesting to see the dialogue switch between Korean, English and some casual Spanish. However, the characters overall conversations were lacking. This film focused more on telling the story through facial expressions and actions than by using words. I couldn't help but think the director was trying to make it like his other film, The Man from Nowhere. It didn't play as well though.

There were some fast paced action scenes when they did play out. There was an impressive shootout scene, a slice and dice knife fight and a great cat and mouse sequence that reminded me of the Hollywood Die Hard films. Above all else, I would watch this movie for Jang Dong-gun’s action scenes. They were pretty amazing.

This movie was not that bad. Can feel the pain from the main characters mistake throughout the whole movie. Actually sat through the credit song I love it.

I've seen a lot of korean dramas and movies where they spoke english and to be honest their english was pretty decent. At least I could understand them without subs xD And about the movie itself .... It was meh. It felt like the plot wasn't fully developed and sometimes it was really predictable, that's why I was really bored after half of the movie. I expected more since the synopsis seemed really interesting and cool. Guess I was fooled.

I was hoping this movie would have been better given the synopsis - I like the "bad guys gone "good" theme" BUT... this one honestly was a disappointment - I stuck around for Jang Dong Gun as I am a fan ;) but if this were an American film or didn't have any actors I fancied then I would have dropped it early on - I didn't like all the cussing in this one - it was Over-used a great deal (made me wonder if they had any other words in their heads - like couldn't they have come up with more clever lines if they were going to "cuss someone out"?? Do they have to use the same 2 words over and over? and the cursing goes from Korean to TONS of English - which annoyed me even more. :/ *However Jang Dong Gun's English is decent - it's understandable anyways even if he does have an accent.* I really hated that Corporation guy - he was the worst actor in this and it sounded so fake when he swore -_- *someone should have taped his mouth shut*. Some of the fight scenes were well done and nice - including the gunfights - but at times it did get a little "bloody" and "gross" but that could be looked past if the story had more depth or insight - but it was way too surface. and I didn't like the ending - at all. I did like the credits song though lol ~ Decided to give it the same rating as Geanina ~ 5.0
Jang Dong Gun's "cry scenes" were ok, but the woman's "cry scene" was unbearable to watch & they drug it out way too long.

Action scenes great (some). All the English and stuff very weird. Disappointing ending and weak story. Did not enjoy it.

A+ for the action scenes and JDG's acting. The foreigners and Kor-American actors...not so much. It is pretty obvious Lee Jeong Beom tried to pull off another Man from Nowhere, but eh it was good for what it was. Not perfect. The backstories need a lot of work...but the fighting scenes were excellent. If thats mainly what you're in the mood for then this is a solid 8/10.

It was just okay. Beautiful camera work, terrific actions scenes, plenty of fighting, shooting, blood, violence and mayhem. All done excellently...for those of us who like that kind of thing. The story was good also. But, something was missing. Not sure why I did not connect with this film. The back stories of our tormented characters were there, the brothers having to turn against one another was there...and maybe that was it. It was all there, just like it has been in lots of other movies we've seen. I wanted to like it more than I did I guess. 7.5...maybe an 8

A bit dumb, no? Action in a gory manner was a clean check but the rest is kind of ridiculous, I didn't see anything that can make this film special. It's very forgettable. Moreover, switching between Korean and English was annoying as heck.
Jang Dong Gun chose the wrong film this time.
I am disappointed in director Lee Jung Bum, he didn't have to be this obvious about trying to reincarnate his smashing success The Man from Nowhere.

This movie was extremely lame. I spent the first half of the movie wondering if the cast and director are ashamed of this performance, and then somewhere in the middle I discovered a deck of cards and proceeded to play solitaire for the rest of the movie.

It was an original movie in korea. But I didn't say it wasn't a copy of some American movie. Like the movie by Tom Cruise perhaps. If u look at my review u will see I have already mentioned that.

ok, so for example "A Bittersweet Life" is very similar to "The Man From Nowhere", both of those movies are noir-influenced movies and portray strong masculine lead (who is also ascetic). You just have to look at other revenge-noir-inspired "jopok" movies, then you will see how many motives and schemes from "The Man From Nowhere" appeared on screen before
