Disney Casts Liu Crystal as Mulan in the Upcoming Film Adaptation

Liu Yi Fei also known as Crystal Liu has just been cast in the role of Hua Mulan, the brave young Chinese woman who gender-bends her way into the Chinese army to protect her father so he does not have to go to war again. 

The 2019 film will be directed by Niki Caro, famous for directing films such as The Zookeeper's Wife and Whale Rider.

While she does not have any recent drama credits, she has steadily been cast as the main female lead in several Chinese films.  Her beautiful striking look delivers a really strong presence on screen not to mention she does have some legit martial art skills! Reportedly a  thousand vied for this much sought after role.

Fans are very relieved to now know that the main lead for Mulan will not be whitewashed as with other films that specifically were story based on Asian characters like Ghost in the Shell. 

It's a good thing the filmmakers listened otherwise!!
