"Like as the waves make towards the pebbled shore, so do our minutes hasten to their end." -- Shakespeare

"How life is strange and changeful, and the crystal is in the steel at the point of fracture, and the toad bears a jewel in its forehead, and the meaning of moments passes like the breeze that scarcely ruffles the leaf of the willow."

ROBERT PENN WARREN, All the King's Men

I have no idea what to rate Nine: Nine Times Travel. It was an amazing experience to watch this drama. I loved it. But...the last episode I thought was a filler, of all darn good fillers. The only important part to me was the very last minutes. But all that they show in the beginning and middle was a bit too much for my taste.
So do I rate a 9 or an 8? T.T I'll be debating until next year. Meanwhile it's a 9.

I started a drama challenge! I will be watching dramas on my friend's top 5 list. Considering how very different our taste in drama is this will be a true challenge for me. Hope it all ends well!

Obviously the list could go on forever. I haven't added any Asian films to it because it seems redundant here, but Zhang Yimou could be listed too among my favourite directors for his amazing use of colours and Wong Kar Wai for his terrific attention to tiny details.
Just as I LOVE Baz Luhrmann, Luc Besson, Roberto Benigni and Kieslowski.

As you can see, there is no straight line bonding them all. I just love them because... I love them. LOL

I finally come round to answer your question. A hard one, at that. I'm not sure I'll be up to it.
The reasons why some films enchant me is still unkown even to me. What I know for sure is that what I enjoy in a drama I seldom like in a movie and viceversa. For instance, I hate period dramas but I have a true passion for period films and novels. On the other hand, while I ask a drama to entertain my brain, from a movie I expect to enchant my senses. This means a movie is allowed to have no real plot if images give me the necessary emotions.
Among my favourite movies of all times, I'd list:
- Baghdad Café (Percy Adlon 1987)
- The Killing Fields (Roland Joffé 1984)
- The Last Emperor (Bertolucci 1987), known by heart
- The Legend of 1900 (Tornatore 1998). Amazing
- The Ignorant Fairies (2001 Ozpetek)
- Casablanca (no need for details, lol)
- The crying game (Neil Jordan 1992)

I'm not really a fan of the gorilla like hairy men, but I was pleasantly suprised when I saw a pic of my lovely Won Bin in shorts and his legs weren't shaved. What a good sight.
The past month I realized that its good that I yet have to get married. Why you ask? Cause I would have married some sissy like guy some years ago. Now, I can't take the sissy guy, but love the manly type with broad shoulders and so on...
As for Takeshi Kaneshiro I can't shake my head, cause I really respect his gorgeousness.
Few weeks ago I watched Maison de Himiko and was blown away by Joe Odagiri, though I hated the movie itself.

2. Perhaps you think I should like Tarantino and K.K.Duk because they are essay directors. In fact, I hate gratuitous violence and am convinced these two are both higly overrated, which increases my dislike.
Tarantino has some of the most stupid scripts and dialogues I know of and Ki Duk has some nauseating scene in almost every movie. Nor have I ever been impressed by their use of the camera, which would make them gain points. In short, why are they so famous? :P

LOL, Twinnie, do I have to answer all your whys?
I can try:
1. you marked spoiler everything you wrote because you didn't want the whole world to know you loved the cinematography in That Winter. LOL
I loved it too, that was the saving grace of the drama, for me. Such beautiful, sedate colours and shots which truly gave the feel of Winter.
This said, you must watch the last episodes, you'll understand where does my discontent come from. It's not only the ending, it's the inconsistency of the characters' behaviour, mainly the heroine, the way they make the whole criminal plot and money lending unfold and end, and then the last 5 minutes which are lame.
But you'll see for yourself and please let me know what you think.
:)

I did add Nine to my list, but I fear it may take some time before I get to actually watch it. I'm very much in Korean off mode and Japanese mood right now. But I see you've given it a 9 (or an 8? LOL), so I suppose it must be really good and you know that mentioning LLL will be the end of my resolve, LOL. :D

I just have to be careful to choose the right moment to watch things: if I don't, I usually end up hating the drama. It's what happened to me with That Winter The Wind Blows: I should know to stay away from Korean melo, the genre usually gets on my nerves and so it did.

Sorry, I know you liked it - as a matter of fact, I picked it up for what you wrote in your profile page - but as I said I chose the very wrong moment to watch it and didn't appreciated it the way it probably deserved. :)

OMO, I just quit LLL! It didn't get into me. Mian. But I know it's not a typical Jdrama. I thought letting them be in an unknown world was like boring? Haha. I may have to pick it up someday. It's not on my dropped list.

Oh thanks for the compliment^^ Highly appreciated. *hugs with a kiss on the right cheek* Hey, let's watch a drama together! You'll be the one to decide since you're my Unnie. LOL!

LOL. That was pretty fast. You know the copy and paste, then erase, write a new one. Haha.

Oh well, I hate the girl's acting. But she was good in Rooted Tree. But in WaML? Gawd. She isn't convincing as well. I see the same expression all the time. Whether she's shocked, says "let's break up" or whatever.

You mean Song Seung Hoon? Where did you watch him? As for me, I first saw him in Autumn Tale. Well, AT was one of my firsts. Hehe. So, that leaves the explanation. lol But I'm not really into him. You know the fangirling thing, no. Just the abs.

Yeah. You're right. I know it will never happen. I won't watch time-travel dramas anymore :( lol

Don't watch it. I'm telling you. DON'T.WATCH.IT. It's horrible, bad, no progress on the story(repetitive I mean), the girl is SELFISH and so is the GUY. I just pitied the 2nd lead guy. I was so brokenhearted. The villain... Oh the villain is yeah, he's a villain. lol

The 2nd lead girl has an unconvincing acting. She's a flirt. I don't like her.

But, it's still up to you. You know what shocks me? It's b/c this drama is currently on the first spot ratings in Seoul. Oh, now I know Koreans' taste in dramas.
