This had been on my plan to watch list for a year and I final watched it because of the high ratings and rave reviews here on MDL. Let me just say WOW, it did not disappoint. This was a drama shown on a cable channel so it never had a chance at high viewer ratings, however since it wasn't on a main channel it got to push the envelope. Korean censors did push back by censoring the main actors back tattoo and this knives. (Ironically not the guns.)

The story is well written with so many twist and turns that you just never see it coming episode after episode. This is not one of those dramas that drags in the middle and leaves the action to the end. You are left on the edge of your seat every episode. The story is best described as as onion. Layer upon layers. Every actor has a story and everyone matters. It also challenges to like the characters where all the lines are blurred. If you are looking for some cute, clean, romantic comedy, this one would not be for you. This is dark, gritty, and puts the drama in melodrama.

It's rare for me to give a 10 rating anymore. Especially for a melodrama when I'm more of a romantic comedy viewer. I also try to stay away from 30 episode dramas because that is a lot of dedicated time. However, I can see why this dramas final episode viewership rating was 50.8% becoming the 25th highest rated drama of all time. It is such a well written story and so well acted. It jump started the careers of Yoon Si Yoon and Joo Won. I admit Kim Takgu's outlook on life bugged me as being clueless however as I watched through I got it. The idea that good can triumph over evil. You can't help cheering for the underdog. Such a good life story. It took me 2 years to finally get around to watching it and glad I finally did. I recommend it to other watchers.

I put this one off because just didn't seem to be my normal cup of tea but after the first episode I was hooked. Lee Joon-Gi sells this one and you can't help cheering him on once you understand his past. A well written story that could have been a shoot-um-up cold adventure but instead it has some heart as the main lead is not a bad ass fighter but I guy trying to survive for his daughter. I like how the reference to old US Films that he copies. This one was seriously underrated. After a little research, I think this one was over looked in the ratings because it was just up again some tough to beat competition when it aired. (The other channel just finished 'I Hear Your Voice' & its direct competition was 'Master's Sun') This is one to not miss.
