A Sweet Journey with Flaws

My Journey to You is a 2023 Chinese wuxia drama that tells the story of Li Weishan (Esther Yu), a spy who is sent to infiltrate the enemy kingdom. There, she meets Gong Ziyu (Zhang Linghe), a young prince who is also a skilled martial artist. The two of them fall in love, but their relationship is forbidden due to their different allegiances.

The drama is set in a world of martial arts and intrigue, and it features stunning visuals, an intricate plot, and well-developed characters. Esther Yu and Zhang Linghe give excellent performances, and their chemistry together is undeniable.

The Good:

One of the best things about My Journey to You is its sweet and heartwarming love story. Li Weishan and Gong Ziyu are both strong and independent characters, but they are also deeply in love with each other. Their relationship is forbidden, but they are determined to be together.

The drama also features a number of other interesting and memorable characters, including Li Weishan's best friend, Xiao Qing (Li Yubing), and Gong Ziyu's loyal bodyguard, Zhao Yi (Liu Yuning).

The acting in My Journey to You is excellent. Esther Yu and Zhang Linghe both give nuanced and believable performances. Yu captures Li Weishan's strength and determination, while Zhang Linghe captures Gong Ziyu's intelligence and kindness. The supporting cast is also very good, with Li Yubing and Liu Yuning delivering particularly memorable performances.

The drama's visuals are also stunning. The sets and costumes are elaborate and beautiful, and the cinematography is breathtaking. The fight scenes are also well-choreographed and exciting to watch.

The Bad:

My Journey to You is not without its flaws. The pacing can be slow at times, and the plot can be confusing at times. There are also some clichés, and the ending could have been better.

One of the biggest problems with the drama is the pacing. The first few episodes are very slow, and it takes a while for the story to get going. Once the story does get going, it becomes more interesting and engaging, but the slow pacing can be frustrating at times.

Another problem with the drama is that the plot can be confusing at times. There are a lot of different characters and storylines, and it can be difficult to keep track of everything. The drama also does not always do a good job of explaining its plot twists.

Finally, the drama features some clichés. For example, the love triangle between Li Weishan, Gong Ziyu, and Xiao Qing is a bit of a cliché. The ending of the drama is also a bit of a cliché.

Conclusion:

Overall, My Journey to You is a good drama, but it's not perfect. It has stunning visuals, an intricate plot, well-developed characters, and a sweet and heartwarming love story. Esther Yu and Zhang Linghe give excellent performances, and their chemistry together is undeniable.

However, the drama is not without its flaws. There are some pacing issues, some plot holes, and some clichés. The ending could also have been better.

Despite its flaws, I still enjoyed My Journey to You. I found the love story to be very sweet and heartwarming, and I really liked the characters. The drama is also visually stunning, and the fight scenes are well-choreographed.

If you're looking for a drama with stunning visuals, a complex plot, and a sweet love story, then I recommend giving My Journey to You a try.

My personal feelings;

I really enjoyed My Journey to You. I found the love story to be very sweet and heartwarming, and I really liked the characters. The drama is also visually stunning, and the fight scenes are well-choreographed.

However, I did find that the pacing was slow at times, and the plot could be confusing at times. I also found that there were some clichés in the drama.

Overall, I think My Journey to You is a good drama, but it's not perfect. I would recommend it to people who are looking for a drama with stunning visuals, a complex plot, and a sweet love story. Just be aware of its flaws before you start watching.

THE POWER OF A STORY

This is my own interpretation of this wonderful story. If yin and yang decided to stroll the human realm as a couple their adventures would be similar. I never had the religion chip, I was born without, but I wholeheartedly think that there’s a natural balance and karma. The story itself, magnificently acted by ALL characters, would be perfect if not for some silly (or maybe intentional) editing mistakes that gave us doubts on actors dubbing and some redundant episodes. It’s also worth mentioning Sun Zhenni an unexpected solid secondary actress. I’m still very much perplex about Deng Wei….I just don’t get if he’s dull because is suppose to be or else. Special effect are good, ending ……magnificent.

Made me feel like dancing

This is such an incredibly sweet film it almost sent me into a diabetic coma.
The production quality is truly excellent, the editing is perfectly suited to the story, and the acting is absolutely fantastic.
And, most importantly, in just barely thirty minutes this movie manages to perfectly capture the feeling of being a young queer kid in dance class, dancing with your best friend. Yes, that's a way more common experience than you think.
I also really love how the movie manages to portray the feelings and attitudes of young people living in a relatively conservative environment and being subjects to its rules. It never explicitly goes into detail on this, but all the subtle little nods towards the topic, like the girls talking about queer relationships openly while the teachers are lecturing them about topics such as conforming to the virtuous culture of Thai society, paint a very clear picture.
In short, I highly recommend watching this film. It's a simple, hopeful story which provides a brief window into the day-to-day of two queer girls simply living their lives. It's tender, it's charming, and it is absolutely worth your time.

If you're looking for a nice Gun Attaphan treat, this isn't it

But if you're looking for a beautiful arthouse film about the intermingling of sweetness and bitterness in life, you just might have found a good one. It's definitely not for everyone, it's definitely for me. 9/10. The cinematography is gorgeous and the layers of the story unfold in a way that mesmerised me, but I dock a couple of points because bittersweet cake and other foods have honestly been used better as metaphors in other films. Still, it works fine, the acting is great and the soundtrack adds to the storytelling. There's a decline that seems a bit rushed, but overall the pacing has a languid yet tight and slightly claustrophobic feeling that really appeals to me.

Capture Captain Han's Lost Love would have been a better title.

This miniseries was cute. It gave a 'Mysterious Love' vibe. However. there were parts that felt repetitive, choppy and fell short. The overall scope of the storyline was pretty solid. Yet, the reason for the main villain's angst again Captain Han was still a bit unclear even at the end. The romance and chemistry between the leads was nice and sexy at times. The push and pull physical element with the leads sometimes conflicted with the dialog within the script. OST was a bit distracting. Yet, it's a solid mini to watch.

Story Doesn’t Flow Well

This movie had potential to be a great story as the setup of the plot was decent. The story quickly went downhill early on.

Story

As my review title mentioned, it does not flow well. The story is sort of all over the place and is confusing at times. It was hard to gage what they wanted the story to focus on or what they wanted the main plot to be. There were also parts of the story that weren’t very logical and they seemed to force some of the disputes that were unnecessary.

Acting

Acting was over exaggerated at times and fell very flat. No one person stood out or did an amazing job. It was just okay.

I can see why this movie received lower ratings but thought I would give it a shot anyways. As I always suggest, watch and make your own judgement because some will like it and some won’t. This one wasn’t for me.

finale confuso poco soddisfacente

A show I never knew I needed...

I haven't watched a lot of Kdramas maybe about 10-15 and I thought that I knew a lot about them. This show surprised me with its amazing story and wonderful acting. The FL seo ji is at the top of her game and I enjoyed her acting a lot. overall the story was full of emotions and the stories within the stories were also meaningful. It made me feel all kind of emotions which is very rare nowadays. This show kind of sapped me out of my emotions, I will have to give myself some free time after watching this masterpiece.

If only....

I really appreciate its style but the plot was sacrificing way too much in favor of its supposed black comedy. Sure the drama had its high moments where the comedy really shined but the endless 12 episodes chase was exhausting and poorly executed. At least there's more to like about it, the drama had a good selection of soundtracks that amplified its stylistic moments. I wish this drama was a movie, it would have been a lot more fitting for what it had to offer. Anyway, the drama seems to be an accurate representation of Lee Young Ae's long hiatuses.

It almost worked.

Why, oh why are Korean writers so obsessed with overcomplicating everything. Not all romantic comedies need a slapstick over the top side characters, not one, but two obsessive exs with various levels of traumatic past, and 978674 random plot lines. Remove 70% of plot lines and elaborate on the remaining 30%, give characters more depth and time to develop and you would have a truly amazing healing rom-com. Sadly, we still had to deal with the unnecessary 70%, because the Korean writers believe in a simple rule of “more means better”.

I loved the relationship between Hae Kyung and Woo Do Hee. Even though at first it might have seemed like a one way street, by the end of the show it was clear that they both helped each other a lot. Jung Jae Hyuk truly stole the show in the second half and Lee Ji Hoon easily delivered the best performance. The connection between Jae Hyun and Keanu was one of the best side plots of the drama and I would have loved to watch a show focused on them more. On the other hand Jin Noh Eul was one of the most boring and cliche second female leads ever. Even though she was nowhere near as toxic as the second male lead, I somehow hated her more, simply because she was so poorly written.

Dinner Mate had some great messages and the overall plot, but too much was going on for anything to be truly developed in a meaningful way. One thing I did appreciate though is how it clearly showed that dealing with mental issues is a long process that at times takes many attempts and different approaches - sometimes it takes years to face what you fear and what holds you back, sometimes you will never be ready to fully accept it.

Overall, everything was good, but almost nothing was truly great. The few plots that stood out the most could not save the drama, when there were most scenes and plots that felt completely useless and empty. Maybe it should have been a 8 to 12 episode drama with none of the filler?

Warm and fuzzy with good mix of comedy and emotional moments

This was one of my favourite Jdrama so far. I did not watch the manga and anime, so I don't have a point of reference to compare. But this drama was really good in making me laugh a lot with the comedic and cute moments. This is really difficult considering I am not a big fan of comedy as a lot of time, they aren't done properly. Besides the comedic moments, there's also the part where it will make you tear a lot. I think the background music also adds a lot to the atmosphere of the drama and acts as a good supporting role especially for the emotional moments.

I really like the themes explored in the show such as adulting anxiety as it's really relatable to me since I am also at the stage of an early young adult navigating what I am going to be doing in the future. And Yosuke Sugino nailed the role as an unconfident and awkward but talented calligrapher. This was coming from the point where I have watched his earlier works and I can definitely attest to how much he have grown as an actor. Risa also nailed her role as Naru as she had many scenes that required her to cry on the spot and as a young actress, that was really commendable! And her chemistry with Sugino in a sensei-disciple relationship is really in another level. The other young actors and actresses were really good too! Especially for Hiroshi, whom I can totally feel his dilemma and hesitation of deciding if he wants to pursue a career in culinary.

Another highlight was the episode when granny Yasu passed away, it was done so beautifully and realistically and a much reminder of how we eventually have to face our certain future of dying. There were so many amazing stories in this drama and totally worth to rewatch especially if you are feeling down.
