The Story Pulls You In But...

The story of a boxer who's mom gets scammed by a big company and is left with a permeant scare ya know at first i was iffy but after the first or second episode i immediately got dragged in and absolute loved it if you are a fan of boxing or mma or even hand to hand combat this is definitely your show full of amazing story build and character development and anticipation that keeps you from leaving this show is really amazing!

Now let me get to one thing i didn't like about this show, The fact that all the killing happened on the good guys side i mean hell man they lost Tae Ho and Yang Jung who were definitely sad deaths for sure but with the death of Doo Young I Felt Utter Sadness and Disappointment the reason for my disappointment lies in the fact that Geon Woo and Yoo Jin dont kill anyone for example when they had in beom down in the bookstore they should have finished him off i know it was about keeping the boxers heart but by them leaving him alive gave to many opportunity for him to come back and there is no such thing is boxers heart when someone hurts your momma so ultimately the deaths were caused by the main charcters own self pride and sustainability but caused a father to die in front of his wife to me its just not logical to have had In Beom Get beaten than left then beaten then left then beaten again i mean really just not logical.

Other Than That It Was Defintly A Good Watch Not Gonna Rewatch But a Good Inital Watch!

Ending destroy the mood

A girl had fallen in love with a boy. She kept following him, and one day, she discovered something that hurt her badly. Consequently, she started distancing herself from him. However, they still got married. The boy, ML's character, struggled to express his feelings, leading to a misunderstanding and a breakup. After seven years, they reunited. Despite her initial attempts to ignore him, he persistently tried to reintegrate her into his life. The storyline included several unnecessary plots, such as his son's story and hiding her father's disease. The narrative also introduced a subplot about Africa, but it was briefly shown and didn't contribute significantly. The story concluded with the revelation of his amnesia. Unfortunately, these unnecessary plotlines diminished the overall interest in watching the narrative.

expectativa vs realidade SPOILER

Chris Wu make it worth watching…

First time I watch a serie with Chris Wu… he was most of the story.. awesome.
Finally I see some nice, Mature ML… with a bit of funny but quite charming and more importantly.. he makes sense in his attitude and behaviour…. Most of the time.
Mixed feelings about FL…. A lot of good reviews but I felt she had no charisma and almost no expressions. Besides.. the way she acted with the best friend Wei… well.. you dont need to be super experienced to see that something is going on there…. Also… she kept playing it dumb with ML… telling him to drive the 2FL around and to do other things… come on! As nice as you can be… that made her look clueless… not smart enough.

Kudos for best friend Xiaobin…. The funny heart of the show.. I loved him!

Indeed… the last episodes were a bit blah… and the ending came out of the blue… a bit rushed.
Overall, the series were ok…
Do I recommend it? Yes if you have nothing else to watch
Would I see it again? Only that damned kiss outside the karaoke… wow! Best kiss Ever!

only for comedy & romcom enthusiasts

i genuinely had a good time watching this. the first 3 episodes were HARD to watch, as you’re getting used to jade and his character. but as soon as you get used to him, this drama is pretty okay! it’s a very lighthearted, funny drama to watch. definitely for comedy lovers & hopeless romantics!!

the drama is well acted. yim can be seen overacting and giving VERY over-exaggerated reactions/facial expressions at times, but honestly, with how jade’s character is, i didn’t really mind it at times. jade’s character is a little insufferable. with him screaming all the time & having weird expressions & mannerisms throughout the entire series… was he like this on BedFriend? cause i genuinely don’t remember him being so… annoying. but again, i got used to him, and was able to finish the drama without any trouble.

tutor did amazing as always, even though his character was a bit too bland for my liking. he was just THERE. the plot is alright, nothing too crazy but again, it’s a lighthearted, romcom… didn’t expect any more nor any less.

it can be quite a hard watch for some. it was like that for me at the beginning, but i found myself enjoying the drama as it continued!

HOWEVER… what a waste on king and uea. truly so sad how they portrayed them in this drama. i can completely understand that they are side characters but my GOD, what a mess. useless & pointless “fights” to add onto the so called plot… they did them so wrong. i did find myself giggling at how lovely they are with one another but that’s just netjames BEING netjames.

the same goes for the other side couple… a MESS. not a plot in sight. just two boys in love not wanting to admit they’re in love, literally the same plot as jade & mai. nothing different. their pace was also kinda weird?? i have so many questions, but regardless, they have great chemistry and i enjoyed it everytime they were on screen. hope to see them again soon!!

it’s just okay. watchable if you enjoy romcoms & overacting.

Cute couple, silly humor and lots of fun

I was probably one of the few who loved this drama so much. It's really silly, shallow and even childish, but it's a lot of fun. It's a light-hearted drama with slapstick humor that's good for distracting yourself without thinking too much.
ML and FL are very cute together, both have shortcomings and aren't the most intelligent people, so to speak hahahaha
In my humble opinion, this is probably the FL most wronged by the public on this site that I've seen so far. A lot of people hating on her for whatever she did but I realize that no one ever tries to see her side. She's a teenager (it's not said how old she is, but I don't think she's older than 15 or 16) who's been pampered and protected by her family all her life, she acts very much like a teenager: she doesn't want to be bossed around, she doesn't care much about anything that doesn't revolve around her, she's inconsequential, impulsive and thinks she can do whatever she wants. If you see her for what she is, a teenager who wants to avoid an arranged marriage at all costs, you won't find the things she does so absurd or evil.
And unlike what many people thought, it's clear to me how much she's grown over the course of the drama.
The pace of the story is really strange, there are many episodes with FL still infatuated with SML, from the rhythm it seems that it would be a drama with about 50 episodes. The revelations and solutions to the problems were accumulated for the last 6 episodes, which ended up being a bit rushed.
In short, a cute main couple with a lot of chemistry, especially when it comes to comedy. By the way, the actor who plays ML is extremely charismatic. I also liked the friendship between FL and SFL. It's just SML who's so dull, always looking constipated and gloomy.
Finally, I suggest you ignore the low ratings and harsh comments and try to watch it and come to your own conclusions.

"life itself is an opportunity. it's okay to fail as long as you keep going"

Death's game for sure has one of the most creative storyline out of all kdrama I've ever watched.

At first I wasn't really sure what to expect. I was kinda skeptical about the idea of having to follow 12 different people throughout the whole show. I wasn't really sure how they could even make a good story out of it. Despite that I was very pleasantly surprised by how good everything was about this show.

Not only is it a very well written and original story, the show has very good acting of all 12 characters that the mc got to live, very stunning, beautiful and realistic visuals, and surprisingly interesting side characters that make the story so much more appealing. What shocked me the most about the story tho wasn't even the revenge plot (even tho it was a very nice addition to the main plot), but the death's themselves. In his 11th death we find out that the mc is actually the person that killed himself in front of his past self, resulting In him killing himself years later what lead to the same events (a paradoxical loop). The connections between the death's u see throughout the story were very fascinating to me and made the story even better than it already was.

This show was very meaningful in the sense that it's not only fun to watch but teaches you something. This really changed my view on suicide and death in general. It made me realise how less life is being appreciated nowadyas and how much we shouldn't take it for granted (as cheesy as that sounds). Death is a very good character imo. Despite her cruel actions, is death a very smart character who mostly tried to teach the stubborn mv how wrong he was for ending his life. Litterly almost every line of Death has some real life meaning behind it. Its only after dying 11 times that he's aware of his mistake, but by that time it's already too late.

This kdrama is overall very unique and interesting. I'll definitely be recommending this to others?

I was initially skeptical but the payoff is great

This didn't grab me right away and I was feeling a little nervous about whether or not I'd like it but thankfully once the story is set up this short special did a good job of hooking me emotionally and keeping me guessing as to what the fate of our star crossed lovers would be. Both these actors are so strong, and play off each other so well, that they're able to do a lot with a little. Really strong final scene. Mostly somber with flashes of sweetness, this effectively tugged at my heartstrings and left me wanting more.

Excellent thriller but needed more time travel

This show certainly keeps you on your toes. It's fast paced, unpredictable, and exciting. Very bingeable. Some of the 10 "resetters," who start getting killed off after they travel back in time one year to fix their lives, are just cannon fodder, but the majority of characters still manage to make an impression even when the busy plot doesn't leave a ton of time for character development. Deceptively crazy Se Rin was my favorite, loved her. The actual time travel element of the plot was underwhelming though. 90% of this just feels like a regular murder mystery, the time travel shaped the plot less than I expected and we spend too little time learning about how time travel works in this universe.

Death's Game toys with some very sensitive topics

Hm. Huh. Much to think about.
I feel like this critique is less of an examination of whether I enjoyed Death’s Game because I did, I had a lot of fun with it in fact. No this is more of a critical analysis of how K-Dramas continue to mishandle the issue of suicide.

As far as my actual review goes, I think this is a more than competent show. The premise is fresh and out there, the acting is overall very solid. It’s a visually stimulating and flashy drama. At times actually too flashy. Sometimes more is less, I feel, especially when it comes to sub-par CGI. I’m not going to fault the series for looking a tad cheap at times because I find that somewhat endearing, but occasionally it felt like they were throwing every visual effect in the book at me for no particular reason. So, there’s that. Other than that I really like the look of Death’s Game, I felt the gore especially, which shocked me every single time, was somehow still really tastefully done, if you can call dismembered bodies tasteful, that is.
The plot structure might have been a tad wonky. I kind of felt myself preferring the first few episodes for their pace, that being one person’s life being dedicated to roughly one episode. And the revenge subplot kicked in a bit late and then ended a little early, in my opinion. But I mean, I wasn’t bored or anything like that. Death Game was an overall thrilling drama and it most definitely made me think. But my thoughts might not have been entirely in line with what this drama was trying to convey.

This was a show which clearly considered itself to be very witty but more often than not, that attempted wittiness felt more smug than actually intelligent. Considering what prevalent and pressing subject matter suicide is in Korea, it’s rather strange that I can’t think of a single piece of Korean media that I think handled the topic well. Maybe it is the fact that that would warrant a more nuanced discussion about systemic issues. About stigma around mental health, the insane pressure Korea puts on its students and workers, outdated structures etc. Maybe that would not necessarily make good television. But for a story that I assume is supposed to function as some type of suicide prevention, Death's Game felt incredibly judgmental.
Our protagonist is literally sent through hell and back for struggling with his mental health. He is punished with physical and mental pain for feeling alone. How dare you feel this way? See the anguish your feelings have caused? You’re selfish. You’re cowardly. Cho Yi-Jae wants to die, and the best alternative this story seemingly had to offer was: Noooo don’t do that. Which, fair enough, I agree, you shouldn’t kill yourself. Suicide is bad for a variety of reasons, shocker. But what Yi-Jae needed, what this show needed was compassion. Someone killing themselves might seem like a choice. But the human mind is deceptive. What appears to be a choice often is not truly a choice. This story frames it as if our protagonist willingly abandoned his mother and girlfriend. And he selfishly decided that their love wasn’t good enough to stick around because he had failed in his career. But to presume and then perpetuate that those who fall victim to suicide did not have concern for others is wrong and harmful.

I don’t think that every story needs to be an after-school special. I don’t think every narrative has to be centered around what would be the morally correct answer. How dreadfully boring would that be? But suicide is a topic so incredibly delicate and if you get it wrong, there are actual repercussions. Imagine someone having those thoughts that Yi-Jae is having, watching this show, and the answer that they get is that they’re arrogant and that hell is waiting for them. Granted, if that deters them from taking their life, that’s good. There are no bad reasons NOT to kill yourself. But I don’t think that this was a super productive approach. Choi YI-Jae spends this show ironically enough literally living for other people. And sometimes that’s enough for a while. But that conclusion can also feel like a heavy burden to carry. I feel like Yi-Jae deserved the conclusion that he should stay alive regardless. Not only because you don’t want people to be left with the grief, you’re going to inflict, but because life is simply always worth living. Stay alive because your mom is making your favorite food next week. Stay alive because you’re not caught up with your favorite TV show. Stay alive to finish the book you’re reading. Stay alive because you’re not out of shampoo yet. Stay alive because honestly, most problems in life are temporary.

By the end of the drama, nothing has changed for Yi-Jae except for the fact that he has been through additional trauma he didn’t need. He had all these different lives to try and live out and nearly every single one was more terrible than the last. How much more powerful would it have been to reclaim life because he genuinely wanted to? Because he was reminded that no matter how hard it gets, on some days you get to see people you love and sit in the sun or see the city lights? Yi-Jae stayed alive because the alternative was hell, but what we needed to see, was that life on earth can be heaven sometimes.

Will You Be a Dog or a Pig?

An intense, gut wrenching look at what trauma does to a person and how some wounds are just too severe to ever heal. All the childhood flashback scenes are harrowing, every scene is thick with dread and suffering and the violence has such an unsettling visceral power. As dark as this gets the brutality never feels forced or like gratuitous misery porn, we get a good sense of the how and why the bullies are allowed to run rampant. I also appreciated this show's nuanced take on justice and revenge. Kim Dong Wook and Kim Sung Gyu both gave excellent performances playing compelling characters, though I was frustrated by Dong Wook's lack of screen time. He absolutely killed it (pun intended?) in every single scene so I wanted more time with him. I think the show should have spent more time following him and less time following the cops investigating him.

Unique and totally unpredictable, but slow-paced

For me, this drama wasn't anywhere nearly as bad as some of the other reviewers made it out to be. In fact, despite some of its obvious flaws, I quite enjoyed it. The flow of the plot could have been better executed and the dialogues better scripted. It was just slow-paced throughout, the dialogues not just slow but even a little redundant at times. I can see how the pacing might affect the drama's rewatch value, making it difficult for some viewers to sit through the drama again and again in its entirety, even if they were able to watch every single minute through the very first time. It also took its time revealing the main plot of the drama. That's not to say that nothing was happening. There were a lot of things going on from the get-go(a war between two nations, inner political turmoil/scheming, family/romance /relationship complications, even non-human characters scheming off and on in the background because it is a fantasy drama), but you'll come to the realization a whole 30-some episodes later that there's actually something much more important going on in terms of plot. It is definitely a drama that requires its audience to have a lot of patience. I also wish that Guardians of the Ancient Oath had been given a bigger budget to work with because it really showed in its CGI moments. Those moments looked kind of poor. Although, if it's true that this drama was mostly a school project by the students from Beijing Film Academy, then I guess that would explain my complaints about budget. The last note of warning is that while the ending made sense, it isn't your happily-ever-after ending, so if that bothers you a lot, you might want to steer clear of this drama.

Those things aside, I found the story to be quite unique and unpredictable. It felt rather refreshing when there are just so many dramas out there always doing the same story...and the twist that revealed the main plot later on towards the end of the drama will probably come as something of a little shock because, most likely, it won't be something you'll have been expecting. At least, that was the case for me. I also enjoyed the cast of actors and actresses here, many of them quite young: Leo Wu Lei and Song Zuer(our two leads), as well as as others like Wang Junkai and Fiction Guo. They each played their roles quite well despite having been so young. I came into this drama specifically for Leo Wu Lei so, naturally, I enjoyed his acting, but I appreciated that so many of the characters here weren't entirely black and white or without moral/character flaws. I was rather invested in the relationships of the various characters, and enjoyed the love story between the two leads as well as their relationship dynamics. Some other wonderful things about this drama were some of its cinematography(settings and shots of landscapes) and its music/soundtracks. Loved all the pieces of music that were used throughout, especially the gorgeous opening and pretty ending theme songs. I actually like the more gritty color palette that they used here too. If you're looking for something a little different, and have the time and patience, I would say to go ahead and give "Guardians of the Ancient Oath" a try.

great cast but bad script..and bad cgi

I had no idea what i was going into with this drama. I liked Zhao a lot in love like the galaxy. This drama wasn't awful but not worth completing either LOL. I actually shipped FL more with the saucy nether king and his masquerade mask XD. He just seemed like a more interesting character than the clumsy ML.

PREMISE: Basically the female lead is the phoenix demigod, and the male lead is the son of "true gods", not just immortal cultivators. He gets sent to a banished land for dispersing her spirit earlier and accidentally killing her. She died and then became a water beast egg in this banished forest land. He finds her and helps her cultivate throughout the drama.

Male lead is the sweet/but clueless guy. There's a lot of bickering as if they were siblings. I didn't feel like there was much chemistry.
Some of the side leads are more interesting.(like the nether king & his brother)
There is some super annoying tropes here; like when she is revived finally as phoenix in episode 28, he doesn't recognize her. Yet she literally has the same face. I don't get why xianxia writers do this XD.

The villains are a bit flat since they're evil just to be evil.
The world-building could've been better explained but i guess the writers assume you saw "Ancient love poetry" prequel.
CGI-the magic effects were fine but the water beast form, it looks like a cheap mobile game cartoon... oof
Overall 6.5, it's ok but not worth a higher rating due to the iffy plot and the ML isn't the kind of saucy ML i'm into.
