For some actors, the photo shown for them differs depending on which MDL page you're viewing.  Here are some examples:

Jin Ki Joo:

https://mydramalist.com/28963-hitting-on-the-blind-boss

(The cast photo on the above show page differs from...)

https://mydramalist.com/people/10520-jin-ki-joo

(...the photo on her actual profile page.)

Kim Ji Suk:

(The cast photo on the above show page differs from...)

https://mydramalist.com/people/343-kim-ji-suk

(...the photo on his actual profile page.)

https://mydramalist.com/59909-monthly-house

(But the photo on the above show page matches the photo on his profile page.)

Thus there's no consistency.  Is this a bug of some sort with the MDL database?

it must be sth with database I suppose
some Chinese actors whose profile pictures got changed in the last couple of months have the same issue
which means for some dramas the thumbnail images got updated along with the profile page, but for some other dramas still the thumbnail images of the previous pictures are shown in the cast list

examples of Chinese actors:

what's interesting the older drama (2019) got updated but the newer drama (2020) has the old photo

My guess is that it only changes the picture on a page when there's an edit made to it that triggers the change... if a page goes untouched, the server probably doesn't update the pictures very often since those old photos don't get REPLACED but added to on the servers (because it all goes through approval, you obviously don't want the exact same image URL or people could screw with it too easily). It's possible someone updated one page but not the other whether they changed something obvious like cast members/changing the synopsis or just added IMDB/TMDB/website links we don't yet put on the main page for a show. With a database this big, you don't want your servers refreshing every single page every day or even month-it kind of makes more sense (to me) to only update anything for a page when someone goes in and MAKES a change to it-otherwise, they'd be updating every page of a person every single time the profile picture was changed, and that can make server costs exponentially higher. That may not be so feasible for MDL depending on their revenue and expenses.

FYI I submitted an edit to the Another Miss Oh page; not sure when it'll go through but see if that (adding a streaming service) triggers the picture to change. If it does, you'll have some clue that maybe that's what does it... still, an older photo is infinitely better than the old one being deleted and the pages breaking or the servers getting slowed down by every page being edited with each change (multiplied by all the changes across the site, of course-it'd be no big deal if it was just a few here and there but this site has tons of data tossed into it every day, anywhere from 2k-6.5k/day). Give it a day or two and see if it changes or not.

It seems the problem is fixed for a lot of the examples we gave (Jin Ki Joo, Kim Ji Suk, Sabrina Zhuang).  I didn't check everyone, but I checked those 3, and they were fixed.  I don't know if it was because all those pages were edited, they fixed something in the database, or they did some system-wide refresh.

ElBee, do you see the streaming service that you added to the Another Miss Oh page?  Just wondering if your edit went through.

Yes, my edit went through and his photo was likewise updated. . :)  Just an FYI: to see -every- added service (streaming site) for a page, not what it triggers based on your IP address,go to edit->streaming services and you will oftentimes see more ie Viu is limited to a handful of Asian nations so they won't show up unless you live in those and for whatever reason iqiyi isn't put on the main page of dramas as of yet-not sure why or when they'll change that-maybe they don't have clear restrictions/lack thereof communicated by iqiyi or the company/site hasn't agreed to be on the pages of what they stream, no idea.  If something's a bit older/has not been updated in quite some time, you can almost definitely add something to it if you've seen it or are watching it, whether it's filling in support cast, putting in episode dates (since it's a relatively new-ish feature), streaming if you are watching somewhere it isn't listed as (streaming is probably the newest hence going to that first to test it) or adding relevant tags if it doesn't have them, etc. Granted, the edits needed most are missing info that will make it searchable/get missing cast members' pages filled out fully, etc. :)

Thanks for the tip on how to see all the streaming services. I didn't know you could do that!

i understand ElBee's explanation but i don't think it was intended like that
the admins must have fixed sth because now the new profile photos are shown also on these pages that haven't been edited lately

Mine was just a possibility for why a lot of pages weren't updated-if they weren't doing a site-wide refresh often (which always poses a risk of things breaking/not linking up properly), updating pages is one way to trigger it for a given page if there's anything TO update. If they have fixed it (for now-they may have decided to quietly make the frequency of full-site refreshes more often on the back end or it may have been a 1x thing-we'll never know), this topic can be closed.
