Kawahara Sabu is a Japanese actor and talent, born in Kure, Hiroshima, Japan. His original stage name was Kawahara Hiromasa (河原裕昌), which he changed to Kawahara Sabu in 1982. He is currently affiliated with Horipro Booking Agency (ホリプロ・ブッキング・エージェンシー).

After attending Gobancho Elementary School (呉市立五番町小学校) in Kure, he moved to Tokyo due to his father's job transfer. He continued his education at Kamitabashi Dai-ni Elementary School (板橋区立上板橋第二小学校) and Kamitabashi Dai-ni Junior High School (板橋区立上板橋第二中学校) in Itabashi, Tokyo, before moving back to Hiroshima, where he graduated from Kokutai-ji Junior High School (広島市立国泰寺中学校) and Hiroshima Kokutai-ji High School (広島県広島国泰寺高等学校). His older brother, Kawahara Shigeki (河原茂樹), was a member of the male chorus group The Four Mates (フォー・メイツ), which was active in the 1960s, inspiring Sabu to pursue a career in the arts.

In 1965, he enrolled in the Toei Acting Training Institute (東映演技研修所) and worked as a background actor for two years. After requesting to be made a star, he was dismissed by Toei. He later made his debut in 1970 in the film "Koko Sasuraiha" (高校さすらい派), directed by Morisaki Azuma (森崎東), who encouraged him to join the Gekidan Kumo (劇団雲) acting troupe. He also became a member of the Gekidan Keyaki (劇団欅) theater company. In 1975, he left Gekidan Keyaki to help found the En Gekidan (演劇集団 円) theater group, where he remained for nearly a decade before leaving due to financial difficulties. He subsequently transitioned to television and film, stepping away from stage acting.
