i thought i would share a unique perspective. my wife is a korean drama addict. she watches 12 to 15 hours a week…
Personally I think it's really cool you took time to come here and talk about something that matters to you. It's great your wife managed to draw you into the K-drama world to some extend, because it's simply human nature wanting to share things we love with people who matter to us. Either way, I also think that Korea has a very high-end entertainment industry, and especially in terms of production quality, it can hold up with American tv-shows any day, especially if we're talking about the ones with low-budget. I am talking about visuals and audio, also about acting, often directing. Unfortunately, that cannot always be said about scriptwriting, and here lies the major problem with K-dramas, that are often not pre-produced but written along the way and under time pressure. If you want to get a glimpse into that crazy drama-producing world, you could watch 'The King of Dramas'. I am not saying that pre-produced dramas are always better than ones that don't have a pre-written script, but unfortunately many times the writers get stuck along the way, or are influenced by the public opinion, or-- well, actually I don't know why but very often the first4 or 5 episodes of a show are the bomb, and then suddenly it goes downhill from there, until often it becomes nonsense, cliché, everyone acts out of character and by the end you're wondering what you've wasted your time on. So, seeing the potential of the set-up, the cast, the director and everyone involved in the production go down the drain, is simply upsetting for drama-fans like us. While I don't think I constantly complain, I am sure I've at some point vented my frustrations because of a similar matter. Of course, there is a difference between constructive criticism and mean comments out of malice. Anyway, maybe it would be better for you to stay away from the comment section of MDL, I can totally understand that it can be upsetting. I often wonder myself how there can be so much bickering and shaming over something that should just bring joy and excitement. On a final note I would like to recommend you the drama 'It's okay that's love', my favorite drama up to date, and one where you can happily read all the comments because it is just too amazing to deserve anything but praise :) I hope you'll enjoy it with your wife and forget about the bad blood circulating around here!
What I know, when it was still airing, it was "Hello Monster" but they changed it to "I Remember You" in the early…
I agree, 'Hello monster' makes it somehow sound like a romantic comedy or parody, which by no means it is. 'I remember You' is a beautiful and very fitting title that links with the drama. I wish they would change it back on MDL :(
Dang, your comment made me doubt a little. I dropped this as early as episode 8 because I thought it was becoming…
Thanks a lot for your detailed comment, it makes perfectly sense and you convey your thoughts well, no worries :) I might pick it up again after some time when I'm in the right mood.
I finished this a couple days ago... kinda. I skimmed a lot. It is a great coming of age movie for those that…
I don't think it's a coming of age movie, and I also think it's not possible to grasp the contents and lessons within it if you skip some parts. Rather than coming of age, I think it's a movie about feelings between people and how even little, seemingly insignificant wrongs to others can cause a catastrophe when accumulated. Actually, nobody in this movie committed any big sins or crimes, everyone just lived their lives to their best ability, but those fragile words of hurt or selfishness eventually destroyed someone's hope. I think it is beautifully done in that sense. Unfortunately the version I watched had very bad subtitles, so most of the beauty within the dialogue got lost along the way...
Ah, I'm conflicted. There were both amazing and really shitty aspects in this drama. I can't really bring myself…
Dang, your comment made me doubt a little. I dropped this as early as episode 8 because I thought it was becoming boring and I really disliked some of the characters. But now you throw in 'It's Okay, That's love', and that's just about the most beautiful drama EVER, and now I am thinking I should give this another chance. So many people say it's boring and dull, though. Ahhhhh....
I hope this writer never writes a drama again. That's how much I dislike this writer lol. I feel bad for the cast,…
She also wrote 'Doctors' and 'High Society'. The latter was acceptable but somewhat dull, I had to drop the first one due to varying reasons, one would be the writing. It's too bad... :(
I do not like this guy acting.he messed up trott lovers drama with weird mentally retarded comedy. he should quit…
I know this comment is old but I just stumbled over it. His best drama up to date in my opinion is Queen In Hyun's man, and the romance and chemistry are just off the charts. So much kissing! So much cuteness! No wonder they dated after the drama for some time, honestly. One of my favorite dramas :)
Also, I wonder if I am the only one that didn't really dig SPLASH SPLASH LOVE. I mean, it was cute and the quality of production is quite high , but the drama and romance are average at best.
Never felt the urge to rewatch any of those except for Marriage Not Dating, which is the bomb. Love that drama! My favorite re-watch dramas are 'It's Okay, That's Love', 'Oh my Venus' and 'Queen In Hyun's man'. Watched each of those plenty of times and could not love them more.
OMO what happen to " Tomorrow With You " , how can they miss such an important one !!
I think it's because even though it's a time travel drama, it's not... uh... like a character goes from the past to the far future or a different decade of from future to goryeo or something like that. But I agree, it's a great drama.
My favorite Time Travel drama is still 'Queen In Hyun's man', nothing beats that! I also enjoyed 'Tunnel' a lot, but Time Travel doesn't play such an important role for the plot.
'Live up to your name, Dr. Heo' takes spot Nr. 3.
Couldn't get into 'Hit the Top', and 'My only love song' was just plain bad. I guess it's cute if you accept it's not to be taken seriously.
This was not what I thought it was gonna be. Has some cute and funny parts but most of the time I was confused…
I can see how this is confusing to you. From the looks of fashion and industry, I thought this should be set around 1930s, after the annexation of Korea to the Japanese Empire and just around World War II. However, there is mention of the sino-japanese war, which was actually around the end of the 19th century (1894 if I remember well), before the Japanese gained military power over Korea. But I guess, it could also be implied World War II, which had a series of conflicts in East Asia known as the Second Sino-Japanese war. I think there was also a time the Japanese conquered Manchuria, which would explain why they tried to send young women there (if you're unfamiliar with the history, women were fooled into believing they could learn and study there, but in reality they were sent as prostitutes ('comfort women') for the soldiers in Manchuria at that time. Anyway, this is mostly what I remember from watching 'Bridal Mask', which is a really good drama explaining that time. A little can also be seen in 'Chicago Typewriter'. It is definitely a very interesting yet sad part of Korean history. Since this special was a romantic comedy, they didn't paint it too dark this time around, but it was a very harsh time for 'Joseon'/Korean natives compared to Japanese or those with money and power who supported the Japanese Empire. I really recommend both of the dramas to you!
@klmnumbers hahahaha I laughed. I agree that aside from Sun Jae, most characters barely showed reaction. I mean…
Well, I think it would have made more sense if they had shown at least one more time traveller or something, to show us it's not just that one guy that managed to do it. The way I see it, it's not precisely the 'Tunnel' that made time travel possible, but something like Kwang Ho's desperation. If he didn't travel in time, he would have never managed to find the culprit, his daughter might have died as well. So it was something like... a miracle granted to him so he could make things right? So, of course for him, the Tunnel was the starting point while chasing the culprit, so all the time travels could only happen there, but if there are other time travelers, it could be different reasons and different places, too. At least that's what I would like to believe, because other wise it wouldn't really make sense. I also was sure he would not be able to return because I thought it had to be the two of them there for it to work. Since that wasn't the case, it's the only possible explanation, a 'miracle' xD Oh well, time travel is always a sensitive matter...
i think the saddest scene was when that lady named her son Park Kwang ho... i don't want to think about what…
If the future is the future and not a parallel universe (which we can assume, as the fountain pen was there because he left it behind in the past), the future will change as long as he manages to find the culprit sooner. I think they left it open ended so that everyone would be satisfied. There are always people who don't want the ending to be so spelled out for them, so I think it was a good way to do it: We know he went back to the past but we don't know if he caught the culprit, so the future is unknown. I personally hope for the happiest change. And off Seon Jae and Jae Ji should still end up together, no matter which future :D It would just make me a bit sad because realistically speaking their characters would be quite changed, because they went through such different experiences. Oh well...
Alright, so I finished and I am totally conflicted about the score I ought to give this drama. I absolutely loved all the fantastic actors, the character dynamics, even the villain to some extent, the music and most of the writing, that was very smooth, except for some shortcomings here and there. I must say that it lost a bit of steam as it went along, some scenes felt repetitive and the way the police worked made me want to tear my hair out at times. Even so, the first two thirds or so of the drama were brilliantly executed and I cannot recall a boring second in those moments. I loved the switches between future and present. Thus I will settle on a score of 8.5/10 despite the obvious flaws. I might change my mind once I rewatch this and find more to nitpick, but for now the enjoyment of the show still wins. The characters will be missed dearly!
I just watched ep 15, and I am so so so so so annoyed. I mean, the police wasn't the brightest in the first place and Shin Jae Yi did all the work, mostly, but they are reaching new levels of stupidity. 1. If a culprit took a hostage and is hiding out somewhere, you do NOT waltz in with your police sirens on full blast just to make sure the culprit knows exactly when you're coming. Also, how about properly GUARDING the fucking streets next to the hideout, especially if he has managed to weasel out several times. 2. If a certain person has been threatened, abducted and nearly killed not only once but FOUR times, the police should maybe think about giving her some kind of protection or surveillance until the culprit is caught, right? 3. ... Seon Jae, I love you to pieces, but don't take anything a murderer gives you and place it right at your desk. Just don't. But okay, let's say the bug attack couldn't be avoided, I was proud of him when he was like 'shhhh' to everyone when he discovered it, and like: 'yesss, finally a good move, they can set up a trap to catch him!!! Jackpot!', but NO, Kwang Ho takes the fucking bug and DESTROYS IT, and I am speechless, because HOW STUPID CAN HE BE???
That's just a faction of the things that made me doubt the police is good enough for anything, really, but the writing leaves more to be desired: If the killer is really such a brilliant master mind who leaves no traces, how can he - NEVER wear gloves or change his clothes, there must be some traces of DNA be left on the victim or his own clothing; the victims always have blood under their fingernails, but ofc. no skin or blood of the murderer is ever found - kill his victims where people could walk or drive by anytime without anyone ever seeing or hearing something (like, dude, I am pretty sure taking off the stockings and using them to wrap the victim up would take quite some time...) - when he abducts SJY for the second time, there is a CCTV right there, and they conveniently only show the part where he leans in her car --> how could they not show how she was drugged and then carried out, wrapped up and placed into his trunk when the CCTV was RIGHT fucking there?? It was in front of the university building, HOW are there no witnesses?? I could go on and on and on, I loved the show so far, but I feel like nothing in this concerning the 'great' killer makes any sense. Deep sigh and on to the final episode, which hopefully will be the saving grace.

The poster is really bad, though, it should get a new picture!
