I'm not sure I hate them, there was definitely some dislike, but both had reasons for the way they acted towards…
I totally agree with this. This is the kind of thing that makes CQL/MDZS so good. JC is a complex character and so is his mother. Their motivations to act the way they do make complete sense. JC's mom is harsh and unforgiving, but it is very clear that she had immense love for the people she loved which makes her memorable. Her treatment of WWX adds another layer of heartbreak to his first life, but WWX's insistence on having respect for her anyway adds another layer of admiration one would have about WWX's character.
JC is pitiable, for sure. I completely understand his anger toward WWX - in his eyes, WWX didn't prioritize his family and the Jiang Sect. During a time when he was trying to prove his worth as a sect leader, WWX was doing all the wrong things. If JC was just a little bit more open minded or confident in his abilities or willing to rock the boat and stand up for WWX to the other sect leaders, then things might have been different. JC is understandably cautious, though. Most people should actually be able to relate to JC, because most people DON'T want to overstep and would rather fall in line than stick out like a sore thumb and disrupt the order of things. However, just like in real life, falling into line like everyone else doesn't exactly make you a hero. Also, like in real life, experiencing a lot of tragedy and not being able to properly process it will give you a warped personality in the future. If JC had a proper friend or psychiatrist, his tendency to whip anyone who angered him would probably not have become such a problem.
Such a great show! Of course it is much more enjoyable to watch with the subs, but since I am impatient, I watch…
I am loving this show soooo much! WYB is so cool, calm, and collected about everything so when they made him go talk to the dancers and say weird things, I laughed waaaaay too hard watching how flustered he got.
Currently watching him in Street Dance of China 3 and loving him in that show. Between his awesome dancing, his impressive critiques, and the silly games, I am addicted to the show. WYB's talent is amazing.
im only on ep 4 and im loving it so far! their interactions are so cute. xuanji doesn't even know what she's doing…
So true! But even though XJ doesn't understand the whole concept of love, her inner war god tends to get a little homicidal whenever SF is in danger...

That bathroom scene was hilarious! She's so clueless, but she is always trying to understand the world around her better. SF is absolute adorabiliy. He is so helplessly in love but knows she's so oblivious to these things.

I love oblivious characters, but sometimes the way they are portrayed in dramas can be a little grating - especially in female leads. In L&R, XJ is exactly the type of clueless that I like - childlike, but not childish. I love the character growth and I adore the absolute patience and understanding that SF has with her along with the ways he tries to help her understand the world.
Ok, this show is my new second favorite thing. Love the leads, love the characters, love the story. There are so many sweet moments that are just perfection! Looking forward to the rest of this drama!
is this BL? if yes then imma stay the fuk away from this
This is total BL: Bouncing Lapins, Bastard Lunatics, Brutal Losses, Bashful Looks, Bizarre Lies, Bunny Lobbing, Blade Lunges, Bloody Limbs, Bondage Lessons, Bunny Lanterns, Bitter Laughter, Baby Lans, Breakfast Lotuses, and Banded Lagomorphs. Obviously, these are things that Bigoted Lollipops should avoid at all costs since these are things that might cause strange dreams about Bananas Laughing or Blissful Longing or Buried Lust which could make you question your entire existence - you might discover that you are a Broken Lute locked inside a closet, desperate to be plucked by someone.
If you think you might be a Bigoted Lollipop, DO NOT WATCH.
Especially the scenes where there's two dudes in a cold spring standing five feet apart who are not not gay.
And that other scene with, like, three guys all grabbing at each other on top of the bed.
And that part with the drunk guy grabbing two cocks... Okay, those coulda been hens, but either way it was probably a betrothal gift.
Don't even get me started on those scenes where clothes get taken off - do you know how often the main guy ends up walking around in his underwear?
Plus there's a lot of sword fights and tootin' on a flute which could totally be uncomfortable for some people, particularly if innuendos are your thing.
Anyway, Mr. Virus, I totally understand why you would be fearful of such a drama. It might make you think too hard. You wouldn't even be able to comprehend the best BL part of it all - Beautiful Love. I'm glad you are mature enough to admit you have mental limitations that would prevent you from watching this.
I have a huge fear of jumping into this particular drama because I am scared that I am going to be let down by…
I'm 99.9999999% certain you won't be disappointed. If you are unsatisfied after watching the show just send me a message and I will apologize profusely with links to a sundry of MDZS/CQL related materials that will fulfill your BL requirements.
There is a reason that people have lost their collective minds after watching this and a very large portion of it revolves around the relationship between the two main characters that obviously transcends friendship. There may not be an actual kiss in the drama, but there are plenty of romantic gestures and not so subtle insinuations with regards to their relationship. I'd even argue that the fact that there is no overt physicality between the leads creates an even more deep and satisfying romance than you might get otherwise.
Trust me, you're more likely to regret waiting so long to watch it than anything. Wait... I take that back. You may also regret that you've watched it and can't find a follow up drama that compares.

That is a fascinating comparison. LOL Someone needs to makes some LOTR/CQL crossover memes, stat!
Seriously, though, there is a dynamic between the two leads in future episodes that I can see as being kind of parallel to the Frodo Sam relationship in certain ways. I'll be kinda curious to see what you think after you get through more episodes, so I do hope you pop back in with your thoughts on it.
I really want to love this, but I'm 10 episodes in and struggling not to drop it. I'm not really into all the…
You should finish it. Why? Because statistically speaking, if you stick with the drama it is highly likely you'll have thought it was worth it. Literally, the odds are ever in your favor for this one. *Insert Hunger Games Salute*
Let me elaborate:
The rating is ridiculously high, which is why it continues to draw people to at least checking it out. But I know that isn't quite enough for you since you're ten episodes in and you're not seeing it yet. You're not alone - not everyone loves it at this point and that's okay. I know some people who only started really loving it when they got to episode 30 because they needed to see how everything came together before they had a full appreciation of what this drama has to offer.
Anyway, on with the statisticals.
Digging deeper in the data, you'll also see that 61% of those who rated this drama gave it 10 stars. You may not realize how how much of an anomaly that is, but other highly rated dramas will have a 35% to 45% ten star rating ratio. To clarify, that's 6 out of 10 people who LOVED The Untamed vs 3 to 4 out of 10 who loved other dramas. That alone puts greater odds that you'll love it upon completion than not.
Carrying that further, 9 out of 10 people thought The Untamed was worthy of a rating of an 8 or higher. I'm fairly certain that ratings of 8 and higher are generally considered entertainment that was worth the time invested.
Like I said, the odds are in your favor that you won't regret finishing it.
Another thing I'd like to point out: When the drama first aired, the rating was pretty good, but then continued to get higher and has stayed that high even as more people rate it. If you compare the currently watching rating to the completed rating (9 vs 9.54) that's a pretty similar trajectory for the standard watching experience. Even if you're not super into it now, it gets better. The kind of better that leaves most of us in tears and incapable of moving on even though it's been a whole year....

Anyway. Apologies for the long essay, but serious questions require serious answers.
See a beautiful & very informative meta analysis of the term 知己 [zhiji] in The Untamed here: https://hunxi-guilai.tumblr.com/post/612161034673946624/all-right-guys-lets-have-a-conversation-about/amp
I love having a deeper understanding of these terms and this particular one is something I have puzzled a bit over since it's one that is kind of a big deal, but figured that there was some nuance that just couldn't be translated quite right. This analysis provides exactly what I have been looking for! I've read that zhiji meant something between confidante and soulmate, but now I feel like it really means something beyond that, which is so much more of an appropriate description of the relationship between our two heroes.
This was exactly the sort of reading material I needed today. Thank you so much for sharing that.
