I came back from vacation and this special edition is what is waiting for me? I must've been good this year!

Oooh Thank you! The stuff I have from 2000 to 2010 have been the popular classics. More people have access to Kdramas now than during that era, so the most popular and recommended ones tend to be newer. I literally just went a created a private custom list with all of these in it. Since I watch a variety of dramas at the same time, I'm starting to categorize them instead of using the PTW list. It'll hopefully make it easier for me to choose. I also hope these aren't too hard to find.

My expectations are adjusted, but not necessarily lowered - though there is a sort of spectrum between The Heirs and The Untamed for me, it's not as simple as The Heirs being awful and The Untamed being awesome. It's more about being able to have an appreciation for different flavors again.

I think tried watching a couple episodes, but couldn't quite get into it because I had a bunch of other things going on at the time. It's still in my watchlist, though, and I plan on finishing it at some point.

LOL Yeah... it kinda made me feel a teensy bit rabid so I went on a little posting spree. I usually just poke at people like this with a bit of sharp and (hopefully) witty banter, but I might have gotten a smidge stabby this time.

My drama slump lasted for months because I wanted more of something like The Untamed, but there really isn't anything like it out there. I read fanfic and other novels for a while after I had already done the standard watch/read/listen to all things CQL/MDZS related.

The thing that eventually brought me back to dramaland was watching The Heirs. I know that sounds kind of crazy, but I was entertained by it because I rambled nonsense about different episodes on the MDL global feed while also rewarding myself with rewatching episodes of The Untamed for each episode of The Heirs that I managed to get through.

This worked because it reset my drama expectations to appropriate levels so that I could once again enjoy something. While I knew whatever I watched wouldn't be as good as The Untamed, I also knew that it was probably going to be better than The Heirs (which I enjoyed, but not for its story or acting or anything like that, really lol).

I know exactly what you mean. There are actual studies that have been done about people like that and the general result is that the more sure a person is that they are smarter than everyone else, the more likely they are to have significantly overestimated their intelligence level. Some people really are beyond help. lol

Right!? Thank goodness for the wisdom of such a person. If only we had known sooner about how shallow we were being by daring to enjoy The Untamed! And now we have to face the atrocity of it being the current top rated drama on the site! This catastrophe could have been prevented!

It's always been a lovely surprise to see how many others love this drama as much as I do. I don't mind when other people dislike it or point out whatever flaws they believe they see in it since none of that really matters to me. Live and let live is a good motto, but when someone decides to be ridiculous to this level over a drama, I can't resist the urge respond in kind since I get entertainment out of it.

Maybe Pinco gets entertainment out of it too, but the insistence that people only love it because it's BL defies logic in a way that makes me kinda cringe. Not sure that person is playing with a full deck of cards. lol

Shush now. We clearly NEED a BL expert to tell us the truth about what REALLY caused such a sensation with this drama. We have all been so. very. blind. All the effort in creating The Untamed was a waste since they could have just filmed 30 seconds of XZ and WYB staring at each other and put it on a repeating loop for 50 episodes and the resulting popularity, ratings, and awards would have all been the same. And now you know it, I know it, P̶i̶n̶o̶c̶c̶h̶i̶o̶ Pincolino knows it, and everyone else does too!

I think I strained a muscle during my 20 minutes of giggling over this.

It's ok. Reading comprehension is a skill that not everyone is able to master. The only thing you can do is shake your head sadly and hope that someday a person with this difficulty will be able to overcome such a mental challenge.

But what if I want someone to try to change my opinion? My mind is so boggled by the incredible logic that has been used to convince me that the ONLY reason I liked The Untamed was because it's ONLY about the two dudes starring in it that I've just about decided to never watch another episode of The Untamed ever again.

I know I'm delusional and all, but hear me out on this one: May I suggest using some other means of determining your trust levels of humanity? I mean, you'll probably be disappointed no matter what, but MDL ratings seems like a weird meter to measure with.

Absolutely true.

Other BL dramas don't have drunken chicken thievery, Paperman, and demonic turtles. I feel these are important distinguishing factors.
