Hi Jay, thanks! I agree with you, it would be amazing! Unfortunately many dramas/movies aren't subbed and many…
I agree. From my observations on this site and other "hallyu" related sites, a lot of people got into KDramas and the Korean entertainment industry as a whole because of their interest in Kpop. So I think it's a smart idea for China to develop their own idol industry like what they're doing with this show and the female produce 101 show.

I've been noticing a lot of subbers taking the initiative to provide subs for shows because of increased interest. For example, look at A Love So Beautiful. That was originally subbed by a group of independent subbers. In particular, Shen Yue and Hu Yi Tian gained a lot of new fans who will likely check out their next projects. Also, as a result of that, the actors in those respective projects will get noticed too.

China just needs to focus on producing unique and quality content.

Even though i'm a hetero male, I would not turn down Lin Yanjun if he asked me to go to a deserted island with him. >_>

True, the entertainment industry might not need international fans/support to do well but it would be great if the Chinese entertainment industry could get the recognition it deserves worldwide.

Great article, Patricia!

This is available on Netflix to watch. I think Netflix is the only place you'll be able watch this with English subtitles too. Highly recommended!

No, he doesn't. It's clarified later in the drama.

Qianren helps her get into bed, she grabs him but says that she likes Pei Shang Xuan so he leaves.

Review With You
You're welcome!

I definitely understand the feeling of suffering from withdrawal after finishing a good drama and wanting to find another engaging drama to get sucked into. I made that comment because I noticed some people placing unfair expectations on this drama, expecting it to give them the same feeling as ALSB did. Still, I definitely think it's a drama worth watching on its own terms. If you're looking for a feel-good drama, may I suggest My Mr. Mermaid? It's a pretty light watch for the most part. Anyways, hope you find something that is to your liking!

I agree with all your reasons :D I simply loved this drama from start to finish. I completely understand why it…
Well said as always, Fran!

Sorry to piggyback off your great response but I wanted to address the ending in further detail.
It's no surprise why they chose for Geng Geng and Yu Huai to meet at the tree they planted together at the end of the drama, especially since they both etched their names on it too!
Trees can represent growth, strength and rebirth. Yu Huai and Geng Geng both individually and in their relationship together, have gone through a lot. But its these experiences that shape who we are and what helps us change for the better and strive to grow and improve. These experiences and challenges will test but also have the ability to strengthen their relationship because in spite of all the hardships/obstacles they faced in the past, their friendship/relationship is strong enough to withstand them because of the foundation they built together. Lastly, trees can also represent rebirth, Yu Huai had hit a rough patch in his life and although Geng Geng had more things figured out to that point in her life, she seemed to miss his presence. Yu Huai putting his pride aside and accepting her help, gives them a chance at a new beginning/fresh start and also for Yu Huai himself, a chance to free himself of the burden of expectations that he placed on himself to always be perfect in Geng Geng's eyes since she wants to be with him even at his lowest.

I also like that the "ending" isn't a definitive end to their story because it's not. They still have the rest of their lives in front of them which means more challenges/problems/obstacles to face but this time, they'll be able to face them together and to be there for another just like in their high school days.

Another thing I wanted to mention was about the expression of love in this drama. It seems a good number of dramawatchers tend to respond more positively towards love when physical touch is shown. But as Dr. Gary Chapman says, there are other forms of love as well. In this drama, there is a greater focus on "quality time" and "acts of service" between Yu Huai and Geng Geng. It's clear that they enjoy spending time together and helping each other.

Thanks for this wonderful piece on one of my favorite dramas and highlighting one of its key strengths: the relationships and friendships between the characters.

In regards to the ending, this isn't one of those that is wrapped up perfectly with a bow but I found the ending fitting with a hopeful/optimistic tone to it.

Actually, my problem with the ending is that it was unrealistic, just because it wasn't a fairy tale ending doesn't…
I have nothing to add because you already covered everything so well...great post!

Really great comprehensive guide covering the entire (extraordinary) career of one of my favorite actors. I would only mention some of his early comedic roles in: Tom, Dick and Hairy, He Ain't Heavy, He's My Father, Chinese Odyssey 2002 and Dr. Mack and his great early supporting role in My Heart Is That Eternal Rose.
Either way, great job once again and thank you for giving recognition to him so that more people can discover his work!

Yes, I am aware of that. I see a few dramas that I would like to get subbed, just need to save up a bit. Hopefully everyone chips in a bit so that we can get most of them subbed!

Really good first episode. Nice seeing the sisterhood on display here between the central trio. They are all successful in their own right and although they may have differences in opinion/disagreements, they are supportive of one another. I also like the dynamic between the male lead and female lead. I wasn't a fan of Ben Wu in his previous dramas that I have watched of him but I might have to chalk that up to the characterization/writing in the previous ones because he has been much better here. (only judging from 1 episode tho)
