Because of all the warnings about the last episode I checked it out. It was actually so absurd that watching it out-of-context was pretty funny. While it does kinda fit with the whole ''struggling comedians'' theme I feel like the writer of the novel (who is a comedian himself) may have included it just to mess with people. I haven't read the novel though so can't confirm if it's from his original work.
A really interesting look into the life of what I would assume to be 50s Japan in the less fortunate areas. Depicts the life of a boy born in a poor family, happy and sad moments. I would warn that the dad has pretty violent reactions and there are many family fights so if you're sensitive to that then it's best to avoid.
TvTokyo privated the first episode of Cherry Magic from their Youtube channel after many months. It got into their top 10 most popular videos on the channel before being privated though.
For those who hate seeing BL-novel tropes. I'd advice to avoid or keep watching to be able to rant about it I guess. It'll be much more fun to watch for those who don't mind tropes. I don't mind it and its been pretty cute. Looking forward to the next few episodes! It has a very wholesome vibe up till now and I like that.
This looks very interesting. Do you think it will be necessary to have seen previous movies/seasons in order to…
I don't think so. Even within the Ossan Love Japanese franchise theres a lot of stand-alone stories with the same premise. It will likely copy a lot of the Japanese version though so may be interested to watch it beforehand to spot the differences.
At this point Im at episode 4. I have adapted to the cringe, have been molded by this drama to be immune to some next level cringe. I had to pause so many times to cope with the older male lead acting childish purposely. But now I love the drama and its (very) quirky scenes! It just took a while.
Besides that, yeah theres also some wholesome scenes which were cute! Main leads have been through a lot together at this point. I'm not ready for episode 5 though. Chaos (but its fun)!

Yea drama tastes and rating styles change over time. Honestly don't pay attention to my ratings too much for actual quality of shows XD It can be pretty random.
I do generally know which shows to recommend pretty well though.
I've been rating stuff for a while and for longer drama watchers (yes, even in a year since I watched a lot) a rating system can become a bit unreliable.
I rate stricter than I used to and mostly based on rewatch value or if a story theme was completely new to me. But a lot of it is also personal enjoyment of course. If I get heavily into a show I will rate higher and if I don't I will rate lower.
Anything above 7 is rewatchable for me. So while the drama may not have been a big thing for me personally in my own drama journey it was still fun.
