If you don't mind Japanese dramas, I highly recommend Tokusatsu Gagaga. It's also about a woman who's a closet fan of something, that "something" being tokusatsu shows (stuff like Mighty Morphin Power Rangers). It doesn't seem to have romance, though.

Nah, gonna pass. Asadora is an easy watch, but they're so long. The only thing I managed to finish was Amachan (which was fantastic). And Mare is still there somewhere on my low-priority to-watch list :p

Gonna check out the two sageuk dramas from MBC and SBS (please be good). And the new version of Strawberry Night is a must-watch for me, because these days not everyday you got to see Eguchi Yosuke with long-ish hair.

I'm pretty sure some of these movies were on my local terrestrial TV when I grew up, but for some reason I never got to watch any of them? I was more into martial arts flicks in period setting, I guess.

The guys are all pretty, none of which are my type. As for the girls, well, Satomi Ishihara is undoubtedly hot, no question.

Wow, Takuya Kimura was . . . everywhere. I've watched seven out of ten, and of the three dramas that I have yet to watch, two featured him.

It is surprising that Hanzawa Naoki, the most recent drama on this list, got the highest rating, when prime-time drama viewership in Japan has steadily decreased over the years.

Thank you for compiling this. I hope people would be tempted to watch at least some of them. I think the only drama that might be difficult to find on the internet is Ie Nari Ko, which is a shame, because it's excellent (I was lucky since I got to watch it on TV back in the day).

Junko's reaction when Masashi kissed him probably reflected what some (most?) of you guys are thinking: "Ewww, you're my cousin, gross." :D

On another note, I might be the only person who ships Miwa and Masasahi, and yeah it's not going to happen, but headcanon!

I've only watched five Kdramas last year:
-My Mister (a personal fave, deserving of all the praises it received)
- Life (the hospital drama, not the cop drama; really solid, but I'm sorry to say that Lee Dong-wook looked so out of place among those top-notch character actors)
- Matrimonial Chaos (a very credible adaptation of a very good Jdrama; another personal favorite)
- Mistress (it was okay, nothing to write home about; at least it's short!)
- What's Wrong Secretary Kim (I cheated and pretty much fast-forwarded most of the later episodes, the more Kim Mi-so fell in love with her boss the more boring it became)

It seems that the only legal streaming site that has licensing right to this drama is Viu Hong Kong, and they only subbed it to Chinese. I have access to Viu (in Southeast Asia), but they don't have it here.

You really should. If the fansubbers subbed show directly from Korean to their language, it's usually good. Certainly better than English subs made from, say, Chinese or Vietnamese.

Thanks for writing this article! You've pretty much hit the nail on the head with this sentence: "[Love triangle is] the most complicated non-existent problem for nearly every drama". I neither like nor dislike love triangle itself, it's just that some dramas use it as a convenient plot device in lieu of proper story or character development. I had the impression that it's THE go-to plot device whenever the showrunners had run out of ideas.

TL;DR It's the particular use of love triangle (to extend conflict for the sake of it) rather than love triangle itself that I don't like.
