You're right that this drama has the perfect blend of darkness and humor. Not so much so that the viewers forgot how grave the situation that the characters were in, but enough to lighten the mood a bit.

You've pretty much covered everything's that amazing about this drama. I'd also like to point out that following the time-honored tradition of zombie flicks, "Kingdom" is a social critique as much as a straightforward tale about monsters. That people turned into zombies after (unknowingly) cannibalized an infected corpse, that the ministers still upheld the authority of the king even though he's become a literal monster and pretty much lost his power of reasoning--if those weren't metaphors, I don't know what they are.

That's nice. I kinda suspect Roma would win, though.

Yesss! In fact, the whole scene in the prison was hilarious. I had to press pause because I was laughing so much :D

I'm not a fan of facial hair in general, but beard does look good on those two.

I've started Nusumareta Kao, Class 3A, The Crowned Clown, and that Fukuda Kyoko's drama with the long title, and they've all been exceeding my expectations so far. Looking forward to Kingdom, Romance is a Bonus Book, and Idaten. I would probably check out other Jdramas too if someone sub them :)

I sort of want to root her with the cousin simply because Nagayama Kento is cute (kill me please), but it's impossible since his character has the quiet, long-suffering second lead written all over him. Anyway, I think as long as Junko gets good character development, I wouldn't mind whomever she ends up with.

Well, not the writer, more like the TV channel and/or the production company. For a screenwriter, I bet an extension is a bother. With Korean TV live-shoot system, maybe they didn't have a complete script for all the episodes, but at least they had had an the storyline for, say, 16 or 20 or 24 episodes. If the drama got extended into more episodes, they had to think about how to change the storyline to fit the new episode count. And doing it under a really tight schedule, too. You can't really blame the writer if the story became very melodramatic and non-sensical all of a sudden.

Really? I thought it was originally to be 16 episodes, based on MDL stat.

I'm pretty sure that thing that happened in episode 15 wouldn't happen if they didn't extend this drama from 16 to 20 episodes *sigh*

Just wait until you start watching taiga dramas or asadora. Then, same problem ;)

It's fun but slapsticky. If you can appreciate that kind of humor, you would like it. But if you don't slapsticks, maybe you won't.
