As for Ye-eun, I've never really warmed up to her, mostly because of all the girls, she seemed to be the one who had the least self-awareness, but I think a positive character development for her is not impossible.

Crunchyroll and Viu sometimes provide Japanese dramas in English subs. Hulu, Amazon, and Netflix have also done the same in recent years, even creating their own original programming (e.g. Higana, Atelier, Uchuu no Shigoto). But most of the subbing are done by fans, who work for free and share them in sites like d-addicts or Livejournal.

And since most newer Jdrama fans don't seem to realize this, I feel that I should point out that Kissasian, Dramacool, Gooddrama and the like are basically illegal. They don't pay for license, and they take the subs either from legal sites or from subbers providing them for free. I understand that some--if not most--of us, don't have access to legal channels, but at the very least, please refrain from sharing illegal links in open forum. If you really have to, maybe it would be better to share them in private messages.

I'm sorry if I sound like a spoilsport, but considering how aggresive the authorities are in cracking down piracy in recent years, I don't want MDL to get the short end of the stick because we're seen as promoting piracy.

Thank you for the article! Zenkai Girl is my go-to drama whenever I feel like watching something cute and sweet. (It does help that I adore Aragaki Yui.)

And like several people here, I'd like to give a shout out to Love Shuffle. And don't forget Date: Koi to wa Donna Mono Kashira, which was absolutely, amazingly hilarious.

Except for WOWOW dramas, Japanese dramas obviously look low budget compared to, say, Korean dramas. As for them having no depth, it really depends on the genre. When it comes to showing poignancy in little moments, nothing beats Japanese slice-of-life dramas, IMO.
