If you're new to K-dramas and enjoy other popular dramas from the late 00's and early 2010's then you'll probably like if not love this drama. It's also A LOT of peoples first or one of their first K-dramas.

However, if you started watching more modern K-dramas and or movies and you value good acting, storyline, writing, and plot then this drama is NOT for you. Now don't get me wrong, I love a good rom-com, if that rom-com is actually funny. This is very basic kind of "dumbed-down" humor where all the actors kind of act like children throwing fits and that about sums up the whole show. If you're into that then give it to try, if you're not though, spare yourself. I tried my best to keep watching this and I am not one to drop a drama but I just couldn't force myself into watching any more episodes of this. The acting is not serious at all, but I don't think it was intended to be if that helps. The plot could have been good if the acting and the writing was more intelligent. The music was very repetitive and a little cringey but a lot of people like it so there you go. Now, the thing is, I love a lot of these actors. I love, love LOVE Gu Hye-sun, but I hated her character (and almost every character in this drama). This was truly a drama of its time.

The 2nd lead syndrome got to stupid levels. The main lead stinks and the 2nd lead is an angel and I have NO idea how anyone wouldn't dump main guy like a hot potato and fall in love with 2nd lead immediately. I had to stop watching because it physically pained me. I've never had to STOP watching a show like that before.

Spoilers for why 2nd lead is better below:

....
you've been warned...
...
spoilers..
...
okay...
..

Main lead originally bullies her, basically straight up "tells" her they are dating cus he falls for her, then runs off to another country without telling her why, then gets engaged to someone else, all while stringing her along cus he still likes her. FOR MONTHS (close to a year i think). while all this is happening... 2nd lead is looking after her, driving her places, spoiling her, and even trying to help her get the main lead back (even tho he loves her... he loves her so much he is willing to do that). also she is loved by 2nd lead's family and helps them to reunite and his family helps her find a new passion after she looses her other one. also he knows shed rather have beef than a trip without asking cus he just KNOWS her.

The so called legendry Kdrama

Boys over Flowers introduced many international fans to kpop/drama culture and ‘ Almost Paradise’ ( the opening song ) will forever be nostalgic to many kdrama fans.
Coming to show, it is problematic in many ways plus over the top acting. I still can't believe it's one among the drama which started the hallyu/Korean wave.
The one thing worth mentionable from boys over flowers are :
- Lee Min Hoo's screen presence
- OST !!! ( Shinee did a great job )
I couldn't watch more than 10 episodes. I was trying hard not to cringe at the acting.
The plot was dragged unnecessary with stupid causes and love triangles

Anyway THE MANGA WAS BETTER - HANA YORI DANGO. Try reading it, cause the live action absolutely sucked

I cant get myself to continue

The music is BOMB and it makes me wanna restart watching it everytime but the story is somewhat cringy to me, I also get so mad at some of the characters. I dont get how people can appreciate Gu Jun Pyo, he's such a bad person while the second male lead is way more respectable.

The storyline is really basic but its the second drama I tried, it gives me some nostalgia I guess even if it wasnt that much long time ago that I watched it (a couple of years maybe)

Its a big classic, even if you dont really like romance try it out at least for the musics. Its the best part of the show in my opinion.

Tragic brain trauma story

This is really a sad series about a girl with untreated brain damage which affects the way she eats and talks (poor thing!). When the series starts, viewers are clued into her condition when she totally disregards the fact that someone who is bleeding from multiple head wounds is about to commit suicide. She shows some semblance of normalcy when she steps in to grab the kid as he jumps. This act gives her a one way ticket into Upskirttown Academy where girls prep themselves for a lacey-panties-and-high-stiletto-heel future of hybrid French-maid and Japanese-child-porn-school-girl courtesans. What an awesome life for young ladies of the 21st century! As incredible as that might sound I just couldn't get over how bad GJD's grasp on reality was as the series progressed. There was a bullying scene to begin with that our protagonist didn't witness so I guess that's not her fault but then more bullying ensues until we get a setup that suggested an upcoming gang rape. Of course, we can't expect our poor brain-compromised protag to fully comprehend the seriousness of the situation enough to avoid the mofo who set her up in the first place. Instead, she confronts him and tells him an irrelevant fact that she was an unkissed virgin. Yes, GJD, that's exactly what I would tell the forker who nearly got me gang-raped (newsflash: no, no it's not). Moving right along, we get the hapless heroine getting herself into a sexual assault situation where the aforementioned mofo tries to force a kiss on her. No red flags there for GJD apparently as she continues on with life as usual, her neurological condition shielding her from the trauma; lucky girl. Blah blah blah, then some insta-romance BS plot where the rich mofo falls for her without logic or reason at all and tries to woo her, yadda yadda yadda, some intervening storyline with a Fabio wannabe kid who has the hots for a model who likes to toy with his feelings, oh boo hoo hoo for him, then the point at which I decided I wasn't the target audience for this... GDJ gets roofied and gets photographed in a compromising position... and it flies over her cranium chamber. Rather than reacting to the fact she had been potentially raped she was more focused on convincing the mofo, whom she supposedly doesn't have feelings for, that she didn't have a relationship with the roofie guy. At this point, it just became really, really tragic to watch.

Firstly, there's a difference between a relationship and rape; a whole consentful of difference which the directors and writers just overlooked as conveniently as the protagonist GDJ did. As a pre-MeToo production this series didn't age well, but I don't believe it needs a MeToo movement to have corrected this story, it just needs a functional brain to realise what's wrong and right, but BOF never seemed to have meant to be anything other than a blatantly misogynistic production anyway with the gratuitous upskirting angles and forked up "school" uniforms for the girls.

Secondly, there's nothing to recommend this series as none of the chars are remotely good looking. I checked it out for Kim Bum at first but his character here was such a slut that it made him ugly to watch. The only char that was likeable was Bom Chun Sik coz he was interesting with his psychic guesses however, he's a minor char.

I mean if you're a neuroscience student then by all means check this series out to study how sick the production team's brains are to have created this crap and how accurate GDJ's portrayal of a brain damaged person is. Aside from that, it could be a good series for people who need eye exercises as you end up rolling your eyes and scrunching them tight a lot wondering WTF did u just witness. Oh, and if you're a zombie then go for it, you'll totally enjoy the irony of the show. Apart from that, I wouldn't recommend it to viewers who do not fit into any of the above categories as it might cause brain damage from your neurons spontaneously combusting from trying to make sense of the sheer ludicrousness of the protagonist's behaviour and decision making processes. This show feels less like a serious series attempt and more like an erotic soft porn fantasy of a bunch of middle-aged, male Korean film execs.

Interesting beginning, horrible evolution

As I found this drama on quite a lot of "must watch K-Dramas" - lists and it being extremely popular, I went in to except a, maybe a bit cliché-heavy but light and enjoyable watch. And while it is in the beginning very interesting and simply cool to see a "simple" girl stand up to the school bullies, this takes the absolutely wrong turn when the main male lead is the leader of the group of bullies, who literally had a guy almost committing suicide due to them, if Gandi didn't stand up for him. ML's ways of making Gandi fall in love of him are extremely worrying as well and then, instead of first explaining why he acts that way or at least letting Gandi deal with it, the show suddenly portrays him as hero and romantic, only meaning well.

Furthermore, it gets quite boring and dragged out, and horrible story + bad pacing + annoying music just doesn't make for an enjoyable watch.

Cringy AF. Don’t waste your time. ??‍

After everyone’s recommendations saying that this drama is one of the best drama... I was pleasantly surprised with how much shyt they were chatting.

No offense but

This drama is so cringy for my liking. I usually can put up with cringe dramas but the storyline is cliche and so damn boring. And The characters are annoying.

I honestly tried my best to stick through with this drama to the end but I ended up getting more and more dissatisfied. Personally I love watching dramas that are not predictable and this drama was the total opposite.

1/10 the 1 for the actors/actresses hard work.

It's not a good drama, it's overrated (believe me), it doesn't have bad acting but no the best, storyline is bad, it could have been better. I love the cast (actors) ... it could have been better. The first episodes are good, but then it gets SO BORING that you just want to stop watching. This is not a really bad drama but it's not the best as most people say.

This had been one of the first K dramas that I started watching. I've seen the Japanese and the Chinese version of the same story and had loved both, so I was familiar with the natural storyline. But I was hoping that they would have added their own little twist to the story. It was a little disappointing to see that they hadn't really made the effort. Which moved them from being fabulous to just being Meh in my books.
The actors and actresses were great and I felt that they made a great decision on the casting but I felt that the story was just missing something throughout the series. I would watch it again but mostly to fill time though.

So good!!! I understand what all the hype is about. It made me laugh, cry, happy, sad, joyful, melancholy. Overall the story is so good. I can't give it a 10 just due to the fact that it felt like some of the scenes were out of order, or some plot lines kind of seemed unfinished. I would definitely recommend for a starter drama.

Boys Before Flowers was my first Korean drama. I'd been watching Japanese drama until then and when I found this drama I became fan of Korean dramas too. Although Lee Min Ho is the main actor of the story I fell in love at first sight with Kim Hyun Joon. I normally don't put much attention to female roles, but actress Ku Hye Sun made a wonderful interpretation here. She is so funny and sweet. I also watched the Japanese version but I prefer this one. I bought the original DVD and has a special place in my collection.
