On the exterior, 200 Pounds Beauty seems to have a great story. The movie is great, the way the scenes fit together, and there's comedy, and and a heart warming story, but what really matters is the underlying meaning. The whole premise of the movie was to say that confidence is key, which is a good lesson to hold to, but the movie says that you can only have confidence when you're read more beautiful. The main character goes though a life changing operation to become beautiful for a guy basically. Over and over again throughout the movie they talk about how being confident is the thing, but while the movie says one thing, they show another. The lead character constantly praises the work she got done, saying how pretty she is, and how happy she is, because she got plastic surgery. This movie does not promote natural beauty, although it may seem like it does. What this movie promotes is doing whatever you can to get what you want, and how you can't be confident if you aren't pretty. The main actress had a beautiful voice, but her character seemed to be drunk all the time. The way she flung her arms everywhere or maybe the way she talked, but she didn't seem to have a stable character. The male lead was a jerk. He was saying horrible things about the lead female one moment, and the next he likes her, for her looks. The music, on the other hand, was great. The main song played, Ave Maria, was really beautiful, and a song that will be clicked on repeat on my ipod. Overall, this movie had decent cinematography, but the underlying meaning was too superficial to make this movie worth anything. I won't be rewatching this movie, because I prefer watching movies that promote natural and inner beauty, instead of saying you can only get somewhere by being pretty.

I know this is one of the most popular korean movies out there and I watched because a friend of mine recommend it to me. But I must say it's not by far the best I've seen. It's actually a little Hollywood'ish in my opinion.

It's a cute and fun love story about a girl who is very fat but has a beautiful voice. The first thing I didn't like about it read more was that she was not ugly, she was just fat (which a diet could 'cure') but no; to make the 'renovation' to her new self she (like most of koreans) decided to make a thousand plastics, changing completely who she was (to the point of taking a new identity).

After altering her physical looks she had to change her mentality and way of thinking that she was no longer the ugly (only in her head) and fat girl but the hot woman.
I must say I actually I like her way more before the transformation because (in my point of view) she became like everyone else (even the girls she hated before the transformation) and was not her unique self anymore.

For this movie I suggest you watch it and make your own opinion.

The movies have obese characters and it is funny.

Similar Stories. One story involves the female lead gaining weight; the other does the opposite. Both female leads fall in love with the male lead first. Both are committed to work on their weight in order to be with the male lead.

Well, I think that the movie was made to be different from everything else. Instead of focusing on the "natural beauty gets the guy" thing, which has been over done, they made it so that it was the artificial chick that succeeded in something. *shrug* It is certainly different, and I enjoyed it.

Am I the only one a little disgusted with this movie? Its kind've an insult to overweight people. Is she suppose to weigh 200 pounds? Sorry but in the picture she looks much bigger than that. I weigh about 175 and I have no problem with my body and I guarantee I don't look that big! I'm proud of my figure, I don't need plastic surgery to get the love of my life! I haven't seen the movie in a long time so maybe its not as bad as I think but seriously, I love their dramas but i'd hate living in korea!

No you're not the only one.
Like you said I felt like they made fun of people who are overweight.
To me it felt like they said "the only way you can get pretty and get the boy you want is by undergoing plastic surgery"

Some people cry because it's their nature and they experience this feeling called empathy meaning they feel for the other person as if the pain was theirs... :)

@Super_Junior_Lover_xx It sounds like you're saying that people who doesn't cry to movies and dramas have no empathy.
      Just saying.

Lol @DramaLama I think she inserted the word "some". Like at the fact that "some" people have more empathy than others. There's way different kinds of empathy
