Jeon Jong Seo receives offer to star in the upcoming K-drama "Genie House"
Han Hyo Joo expressed her position regarding the tax evasion allegations.
On June 13, several media outlets reported that Han Hyo Joo is said to have filed underreported taxes and the Seoul Regional Tax Office asked her to pay an additional fee of around 60 to 70 million Korean won (approximately $47,000 to $55,000).
Han Hyo Joo's agency BH Entertainment then clarified the issue and released their official statement regarding the suspicions. According to the agency, the actress received a general regular tax audit and not a special one. There was no real problem or suspicion of tax evasion."
The agency continued, "In the process of investigation, it was discovered that there was an accounting error due to differences in interpretation of whether it was taxable, and some of the recognized costs led to the payment of additional charges.
BH Entertainment added, "Han Hyo Joo and our agency have been paying our taxes dutifully until now. Actress Han Hyo Joo in particular became an ambassador for the National Tax Service in 2011. She also got a commendation from the president back in 2014 for being an exemplary taxpayer. There has never been anything unpleasant incident about taxes with our actors, including Han Hyo Joo.
Lastly, they stated, "Han Hyo Joo together with our artists from the agency will continue to pay the rightful taxes."
Meanwhile, Han Hyo Joo is set to return to the K-drama world with two upcoming projects. She will lead the upcoming Disney+ K-drama Moving with Ryu Seung Ryong, Zo In Sung, Lee Jung Ha, Go Youn Jung, and Kim Do Hoon.
Han Hyo Joo will also star in the upcoming K-drama Dominant Species together with Joo Ji Hoon, Lee Hee Joon, Lee Moo Saeng, Park Ji Yeon, and Jo Bok Rae.
The actress was last seen in the Netflix original film 20th Century Girl wherein she made a special appearance as the adult version of Na Bo Ra.
