& do they have sad or happy endings?

Historical dramas is really broad. Are you looking for any point in history? Comedies or straight dramas. Primarily romance or action. Time travel, Women dressed as men. Court intrigue.

Era doesn't really matter as along as it is not too draggy, with (focused/slight) romance.

I really liked story of mingling & rebel who stoled the people (:

"Historical" encompasses a lot, and I'll include fantasy/deity/magic and those kinda dramas because they are all in a sense in a "historical" setting/environment.

Deity/magical/fantasy:

Ancient Love Poetry

Ashes of Love

Douluo Continent

Eternal Love

Eternal Love of Dream

Ever Night

Ever Night: Season 2

Legend of Fu Yao

Love and Destiny

Love and Redemption

Princess Agents    (just slight magic)

The Legends

The Romance of Tiger and Rose    (only slight fantasy)

Who Rules The World   (some magic)

With no fantasy element, just pure historical cdrama, but maybe with fighting:

Fake Princess

Nirvana in Fire

Story of Yanxi Palace

The Long Ballad

The Princess Wei Young

The Rise of Phoenixes

Maiden Holmes

One and Only

I haven't watched many historical C-dramas, but the ones I have seen:

The Long Ballad (very good in my opinion)

Who Rules The World (very good and really pleasing)

Delicacies Destiny (light drama with comedic elements)

General's Lady

Legend of Fei (martial arts world)

or the classic Princess Pearl / Princess Huan Zhu

Hello

Sorry for entering your thread and asking for recommendations.

I would like to watch a drama where the female lead makes villains taste their own medicine. Villains scheme behind people’s back and does not fight on front foot. They are cautious and meticulous. They think they can easily manipulate anyone. Female lead sees through their schemes. She plans and makes them fall flat on their faces.

here are dramas I've seen and liked-really liked

The Long Ballad (my favourite historical cdrama, dubbed)

Fake Princess (happy ending, probably dubbed)

I've Fallen For You (happy ending, live recording/little to no dubbing)

Legend Of Yunxi (open/happy ending, dubbed)

Mulan 2009  (sad ending aka they don't end up together)

A Dream Of Splendour (happy ending, it might be actor's real voice)

The Romance Of Tiger and Rose (happy ending in modern times, FL actress used her own voice)

Truth or Dare (fluffy romance drama, but doesn't even have a real kiss between main couple (unless you count falling on top of each other and under water kiss scene) , but second couple has more romance. most likely dubbed)

Your Sensibility My Destiny (I watched while it was airing. I liked all three couples. Lighter fluffier romance with maybe a bit of fantasy. Some scenes are worth re watching.)

cry me a river of stars

in fake princess I liked the second couple more but they got a sad ending on their wedding T_T
