The relationship of childhood sweethearts Cha Song Joo and Hang Jung Suh becomes complicated when Jung Suh's father remarries. Along with a new stepmother, Jung Suh also has a new introverted stepbrother, Han Tae Hwa and a scheming stepsister, Han Yuri. Gradually, Tae Hwa falls in love with kind-hearted Jung Suh and Yuri decides to pursue Song Joo. Nothing can shake the bond between Jung Suh and Song Joo, however, not even Song Joo's departure to study abroad in America. On the night of his return, however, Jung Suh is mysteriously hit by a car and believed dead. Having lost her memory in the crash, she is taken in by Tae Hwa, who relocates and gives her another name. Five years later, on the eve of his engagement to Yuri, Song Joo sees someone who looks exactly like his lost love Jung Suh.

Let me first explain how I got to watching this drama. I was going on a trip so I filled up on random dramas in case I got bored on the trip, among those dramas was this drama Stairway to Heaven, which I had heard so much about. So the trip comes and goes and one night I end up without internet, unable to sleep, and so I start watching this. In hindsight, I'm both glad and sad to have made that choice. Now onto the review:

Story: 11/10 (because 10/10 is just not enough!): The story is very unique for me (maybe because this was my first drama of this genre). You end up hating the stepmother/stepsister so much that you want to jump into

THE ultimate emotional "trial-by-fire" drama of all time(also my 1st melodrama). Watching STH you find yourself being enchanted/heartbroken by the young Park Shin Hye and Baek Sung Hyun, you find yourself screaming and wanting to b*tch-slap Kim Tahee and the evil step-mom and you find your tears flowing at Kwon Sang Woo’s soul piercing, heart-shattering sobs. The result being your fully vested in this hauntingly unforgettable drama. Added bonus is the beautiful/memorable OST.

7 years ago STH was my first journey into dramaland and even now when I hear "Bogoshipda" their's a quick bittersweet tinge of feeling. A must watch....just make sure to select lighter fare after STH.

  • Both stories deal with childhood sweethearts who are separated due to various circumstances then brought back together only to have to deal with all those around them trying to keep them apart and things like illnesses and such. They have a lot of similar scenes, themes, and tone. If you like one you're bound to like the other.

That's really not nice specially for us who loves this drama very much... You could state you opinion without insulting the drama because the way you said it is an insult to those who loved it too...
I don't think melodramas is your "thing" (you didn't like Innocent Man either)... I think you should search the word "melodrama" (it has to have an exaggerated characters, scenes and situations) melodramas are never realistic so they're not anyone's cup of tea.

I agree with you. We have the freedom to express what we think, but saying offensive things & harsh words without even thinking what others may feel about it, that's kinda cruel. Everyone can share how they feel without using sarcasm or insulting statement. :)

    AHAHAHAHA
This drama is an insult to human intelligence. Pathetic and ridiculous! Well, at least I had a few laughs. :D
No one is in their right mind here. She runs away from him and he runs after her through the WHOLE drama. Running, crying, screaming, and running again, what an intense plot! lol
I watched it until the end because I like the way Kwon Sang Woo walks/runs LOL :D

Don't waste your time and brain cells on it

I've only expressed my opinion, maybe not in a 'soft-spoken' way, but I didn't insult nobody. If what I wrote is an insult to people who loved the drama, then calling it 'masterpiece' is an insult to people who didn't like it?
I watch all types of genres, one of my favourite drama is a melodrama, I'm sorry I love you. If a drama is done well,I believe it, no matter what genre it is. If something is unbelievable then the screenwriter's skills are quite poor. I have no trouble with believability if the story is consistent. Even in fantasy the world and its rules have to make sense. The unrealistic aspects of a melodrama aren?t exaggerated characters, scenes and situations. What makes a story feel unrealistic is the lack of sufficient character motivation to move the plot forward and unlikely coincidences that exist just so the drama can go on.

In this drama there?s just not enough motivation to justify character's actions in a believable way.
If the characters have no motivations, their actions will seem like contrivances for the plot?s sake and this drama proves the point.
You answered my comment on Innocent man page saying: ''Stop calculating [..] Don't act smart and try to analyze and so on''
I don't act smart, I just use my brain while watching a drama/movie. If you want to turn off your brain while watching a drama, you're free to do whatever you want. The same goes for me.

It's like you're saying that all these years (since this drama was released back in 2003) ppl were stupid to rave about it and the reputation that this drama has is nothing... Do you even know how many remakes of this drama other countries have done?? why would all these ppl love this drama if it was ridiculous as you say it is?? There is a reason why this drama is considered one of the top classics and I don't think you should be calling it ridiculous... This drama was the door to fame for those who were part of it... You're absolutely entitled to your own opinion but I'm just saying this isn't just any drama and all these facts can't be taken lightly now can they? (^_^)

PS. Calling it a "masterpiece" isn't an insult to those who didn't like it because it does not mean you have no brain but saying it's an "insult to human intelligence" means those who loved it have no brains

Popularity does not always reflect quality.
I already explained why I consider this drama ridiculous from a rational standpoint. I'm not saying that people are stupid or have no brains. Most people probably prefer enjoy a drama without wondering how and why certain things happen or why the characters act the way they do. Just a different way to enjoy/evaluate a drama.

This is the first kdrama I watched, and got me hooked. The actors are great...The leads make you wanna experience this type of love...He has loved this woman since he was a boy and will forever...You laugh and cry with them in this drama.I'm viewing it for the 3rd or 4th time. The villans are really vicious and social climbing and will not stop at anything to get what they want!
      It's a must see!!!
      It's a GREAT DRAMA!!!
