One of the most awful dystopian movies I have ever watched (and I am a huge fan of dystopian genre)

Do you remember those dumb kids in your school that were outcasts and wanted to fit in so badly that they overtried to do ''cool'' things to impress, but because they had no actual concept of what cool is, they ended up embarrassing themselves and becoming cringe instead?

Well, this is what this fourth rate movie in a nutshell. The concept of death/survival games can easily be impressive and captivating, but because whoever directed this wanted to be cool, it ended up falling flat and insanely over the top. There is an attractive Asian female lead (Irene) who has sex with random people of both genders without being a prostitute, without an agenda and without having feelings for any of them. The whole purpose of those sex scenes is to distract from plot holes so big that would make the movie unwatchable otherwise. The characters are not convincing, their motives make no sense, the ''rich'' that supposedly organize the games are not to be found anywhere.

You would expect since this is a death game for money to have scenes with some kind of ''Elites'' (like in Squid game), but no, we see the same poorly made surroundings and overall ''coolness'' that makes the whole thing unwatchable.

I could write more but I don't want to waste my time or yours, this is a trashy movie and I don't use the word trash easily.

100% WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.

The focus on the absolutist self-image of the Jaeboel changes towards their very human weaknesses

"The Taste of Money" from 2012 bombards the audience with aestheticized images, a strangely bizarre stirring mixture of cynical decadence, insatiable greed and human weaknesses that even the richest of the rich don't stop at. Let's start with the moral of the story: money doesn't buy happiness. On the contrary. The more there is, the unhappier their owners get. They may be wealthy bank-wise, but humanly they are bankrupt. Maybe they can buy anything, but in fact they are (and remain) alone. Their relationships tend to be abusive, mostly cold, and rather an empty, highly polished shell.

The KMovie focuses on a Jaebeol clan with a CEO, his wife, daughter and son, as well as the CEO's assistant and a filipino housekeeper.

----------- SIDE NOTE: --- Jaebeol, the secretive modern royalty of South Korea ---
The rich and powerful of South Korea emerged as a distinct variety in the post-war years. As a motor of progress and prosperity, they still influence social life as a matter of course - hidden, unofficially, from the background. In their hands gigantic possessions are concentrated. These are consistently maintained within the founding families. The Jaebeol clans were created as part of the autocratic governance of the early decades of the Republic and were further strengthened during the military dictatorship. The founders set the course for the economic upswing. In the meantime however they behave like the country's new nobility. They shamelessly and ruthlessly buy and bribe people at will. The remaining 99 percent of society are practically 'learned helpless' at their mercy. You have nothing to oppose to this power, which simply interferes with the legislature, judiciary and executive if necessary.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The protagonist's family is one of the first percent of the social class, which behaves as a matter of course as royal families. Here pomp, decadence, coolness, distance, and even obscenity dominate. The highly polished, stylized aesthetic stands in deliberate contrast to a rather gloomy lighting mood. The opulent wealth almost builds an aesthetic wall that cannot be penetrated. The family members are trapped inside. Nothing can or event likes to really approach that, let alone penetrate it. It is (and remains) a strangely strange world.

The idiosyncratic cinematic narrative style contributes to this. It doesn't even try to collect all the threads at the end and close them neatly. It's as if the camera jumped in on the family story at one random point and got off at another. At the beginning, the focus is on the corrupt machinations and the almost absolutist self-image, but that changes on the track after the very human weaknesses of the individual clan members open up. Although they pretend to be untouchable, they are still vulnerable and actually want to be touched. From there it becomes a more or less satisfactory settlement with their own heart balance. 'Love' is a concept in this world that doesn't really want to fit in.

One of the key scenes: Youn Yuh-jung is shown a 64-year-old woman in an unusual candid sex scene. A disturbing effect is deliberately wanted. In a way, this encounter between young and old, between boss and employee, points out the dilemma of the story, so to speak. In this short, impressive scene, the venal world of dependencies and emotional states is turned upside down. The rich have everything and yet they don't - there is something they don't have: the feeling of being wanted, desired or even loved for their own sake.

"The Taste of Money" is a somber social study about the 1 percent that sits at the top of South Korea's social pyramid. Once again. There is an astonishing number of such startling studies in the world of film and series. But it seems even more astonishing to me that there are obviously still far from enough of them. Because nonetheless, this 1 percent still sits dazzlingly on its throne and it is still considered highly desirable within South Korean society to get as far up the pyramid as possible...

A drunken sword master stole the real plot

I love martial arts movies! I did not like this one. The story is so stupid, with Seol Rang being a complete nonsense. I even prefer simple revenge, or an assassin that flies into the clouds, or killing sprees of hundreds than this.
Moreover, the reviews! When I read some of the reviews I was amazed how someone with a bad written opinion could rate this with 8 or more!!!!!!
I will not give spoilers, so I stop here.

STORY – completely stupid, 3 friends fighting the injustice: Seol Rang, Deok Ki and Poong Chun. Then, Deok Ki betrayed the other 2 and kills the mother and child of Poong Chun and the betrayed Seol Rang kills Poong Chun! Amazing! Then, after this script arrive to this amazing plot!, the story goes in a way where Seol Rang destroys her daughter life (Sul Hee)! In the process, there is a martial art master, an assassin that likes Sul Hee, etc

ACTING – not bad, but with a plot like this, the characters could not do better. I feel bad because they do not deserve a story like this.

MUSIC – bad

REWATCH – only if Seol Rang or her daughter put a sword in my neck!

OVERALL – I did not like it at all. Yes, some scenes pretend to be beautiful. However, with nonsense like this, even flying through the fields was not pleasant to see.

To those PEOPLE commenting not to watch this movie

You are making tremendous efforts to conceal the truth. The reality is that this is precisely what those self-serving and incompetent politicians did to the Filipino people in order to further their own interests.
The truth has been seen and heard by us. It may be too late for the late P. Marcos to clear his name, but the history of the Filipino people will do that and more.
The finest thing about them was that they were concerned about the Filipino people and not just their personal interests.

But now that we have learned from history, we are creating a new one. It would be interesting to see how the opposition reacts to this film, and whether they are still living in the past or are actually focused on the present.

what a pity. Stop doing so and let's continue.

You had your opportunity voting for all those yelowtards and puppet presidents; now, however, change has come. No, the Philippines will not be fixed in six years, but we have made progress since PRRD-. God bless the Philippines for that, truly.

Anyway, let's just watch this film and see how hard people fought to conceal the truth, but how time is now revealing everything. :) haha

No, no, no

It was the worst action film ever.
My feelings after watching it: frustration, anger, depression and foolish laugh.

Reliable and solid story? - forget it
Interesting characters? - forget it
Decent director’s job? - forget it

It was awful, ridiculous and the level of stupidity was really high. The game style of filming does not help. Who was the main lead? I don’t care and obviously, the writer does not care either. It’s all about killing and vehicle catastrophe.
And the actors' faces were yellow. Why? Why?

Why I did watch this masterpiece - I do not know. I have no idea why anyone would watch it.
To kill time?

Terrifyingly boring

After the open ending and the massive success of its predecessor, «Ringu 2» is presented as a movie that intends to continue the saga while maintaining the critical and commercial success of the first film. However, the outcome is far from achieving that. I have to say I am a little bit clueless when it comes to horror movies, but I do not think this movie has any horror component.

Firstly, to point out what the film is about, it is the sequel to «Ringu». However, the movie does not start continuing the events until after the first half. This sequel takes about 30 minutes to remind the audience in a very explicit way what happened in the previous film. I say explicit, not because it is "graphic", but because it literally takes exact moments from the first movie.

Secondly, to mark some serious flaws, I cannot even say that the idea for the film was good because I do not think there was even an idea to begin with. The plot, even though it is taken from a novel, seems totally improvised (and despite that, absolutely predictable). I also do not understand why, if the original protagonist is still in the movie, it is another woman who takes the leading role. And finally, I also do not understand how we got from a folklore tale to having people with superpowers, it is not like the script doesn't explain it either.

Not only that, there is a remarkable downgrade when it came to acting skills (maybe they relied a bit too much on the kid's acting) and directing overall. The only memorable scenes are the ones that made the movie looks like it was a joke. So, all in all, do not waste your time; the decent score comes because I love some members of the cast, but that is all about it. I'm curious about what people thought while leaving the theaters after watching this... Let's remember the «Ringu» saga for its first movie only!!

I was a nervous wreck watching this!

I came for Gong Yoo, I'll be honest. I do have to say that this movie was very well done. I hated the ending, but, for me, if it's not a totally happy ending, I'm never satisfied. I do understand why it ended the way it did, and it was effective, but it was disappointing for me.

We got to see just enough of everyone's back story to develop opinions and/or feelings about each character. You have the heroes that step up in a pinch, as well as those that, in a life-threatening situation, become even more selfish, caring only about their own safety. You also get to see some people come to the realization about that is important in life, albeit too late.

The zombies were different than in other shows/movies I've seen about zombies. In the first place, these things were freaking fast! That dialed up the tension level considerably, then you'd see a zombie running along with his body all out of alignment, with his arm broken behind his head or something, and you just have to laugh - good way to release some of that pent up tension.

The special effects were very good. I'm not expert, but there weren't any times that something was completely fake looking (okay, zombies, I know, aren't real - but they COULD be!)

Music - to be honest, I don't remember hearing any music, just lots of grunting and screaming.

Rewatch value - I don't think I'd need to watch this again, it wouldn't have the same shock/fear factor. One time was enough, but it was a heck of a ride!

Is a little chemistry too much to ask?

I found it difficult to suspend disbelief enough to believe that her parents would let her stay by herself to go to school, with Kugayama Shusei living right next door. THEN, there wasn't any build up to their relationship, it was suddenly just there. The main couple was cute together, but I didn't feel any chemistry between them. Poor excuses for kisses, they just looked so fake and awkward. The yelling of the male actors was irritating, it just looks like overacting. Sexism is alive and well in Japanese dramas - the male rating the female on a scale of 1-100, talking to everyone about her looks and lack of boobs - not cool.

Yosuke Sugino as Kugayama Shusei was good. He's got that quiet, deep-thinking thing going on. He was the high point of this movie for me.

Entertaining, lighthearted short

The premise doesn't sound all that original at first: a gay couple pretend to be roommates when one of their brothers visits. But if you are expecting the short film to be about the couple trying all sorts of ways to hide their relationship until they give up and come out, you would be wrong.

The couple is loving and cute throughout, and their relationship isn't strained by one getting upset with the other because they have to hide the relationship. This makes them really sweet and lovable. In a way, the joke is on them (not in a cruel or nasty way) because, ultimately, they don't realize that they really do no need to hide their relationship. This is also a way of making the statement that a gay couple can be a perfectly normal, loving couple, and the stigmatization of gay relationships is really unfortunate.

A good, lighthearted short film that doesn't pretend to be deep or anything. It's simply entertaining and cute.

Great family movie

This is a great movie that shows the love a parent has for their child, and the love a child has for their parent. The acting from all parties is super! The story is entertaining and VERY ! emotional. Parts of the story make the viewer laugh out loud, parts will make the viewer mad, and then there are the parts that the viewer will want to make sure that they have a box of tissues handy. The story transcends all barriers as anyone who is a parent can relate to the father of the story and people can relate to the love the child has for their father. Great family movie! Loved it.

PSYCHO

Effectively a crazy movie, ending with a smile on your face. The film reflects reality in its entirety and shows you that you should not judge people by their looks or their problems. The ending was excellent, wonderful, everything you want. Now I understand much better people with hearing problems and what they go through or could go through. Although he was killed, I would have liked to have another ending, but this is a very good one, which I did not expect at all. (An example of an ending would be one where he is in prison, to start a treatment, and years later she would see him again, him apologizing for what he had done, begging for her forgiveness, and her hearing him, because she had an operation to be able to hear. She forgives him, but says that they could not remain friends, not even more than that, but only to greet each other when they meet again. Let him agree, and the film ends with her walking out the door. ) In short, the film is worth seeing, but not in the late hours, especially if you get scared quickly, and not in the dark, if you want to sleep that night. The film, in addition to showing you a story of a girl and her mother, gives you a life lesson, from which you have a lot to learn.

If oscar had a nomination for "most ridiculous drama", this will win be a mile

This movie is SO crappy, SO bad, and SO ridiculous that it is actually hella good. This is not a seriously done movie, and you should avoid expectations for a good story. It is just a random compilation of stupid things, filled with casual fuckery of real life, overall overacting taken to next level. The movie-makers knew the shit they made and oh god, I loved it. If you have an extra 1 hour to waste, go for this movie. It is a stress reliever if you enjoy this type of humor. The violin playing was so bad, and the only negative thing lol. (tmi, this was the only positive thing during my exams, so this movie means a lot to me.)

Cute, but nothing special

The male lead was a complete jerk, and I didn't like him talking about sex all the time. It made him seem like too much of a scumbag.

Female lead was written in such a way that she wasn't a doormat, which was refreshing.

The timing of the story was uneven. Not enough for us to see why they liked each other and then the obligatory breakup. I did like her standing up for herself.

I was disappointed in the ending. I felt that she gave up something that was important to her, to be with him. She says at the end that they are high school sophomores?!?! Too much going on for them to be that young. His confession was sweet, and long overdue.
