BL Dramas/Movies With Happy Endings (Mostly)

This is a list of all the BL dramas and movies that I have found that both have a happy ending (or at least most of them...) and are to my personal liking. Anything written here is my personal opinion, and you are free to agree or disagree as you like. As a disclaimer, I do tend to view the glass as half empty, so some of my descriptions might seem more negative than positive, but you could end up seeing the dramas/movies as much better than I have.

The list is currently ordered by my ratings, with similar dramas grouped together. That is, multiple seasons of the same drama with different ratings will be grouped together, with the place on the list consistent with the higher rated season.

Some descriptions may have spoilers, but I will do my best to both warn about the spoilers and to make them as vague as possible.

    Thai Drama - 2019, 12 episodes

I waited a long time for this one, and I was so happy to finally see the development of both Pete and Kao's relationship as well as Sun and Mork's. My only complaints were that the issues with Pete and Kao's relationship were cliche and seemed to be just an extension of some of their issues in Kiss and Kiss Me Again. Honestly, though, I really just wanted to see Sun and Mork, so maybe I'm just being overcritical of Pete and Kao. Overall, it was entertaining to watch, and I definitely recommend it, especially if you enjoyed Kiss Me Again.

This drama was really unique. It took the characters that are often kept to the side or used for comedic effect in other dramas and gave them their own show. It was really refreshing to see a drama that gives the characters that are more effeminate or that show their affection in different ways a chance to find their happiness. I really appreciated that about this drama. I honestly wanted to score it higher, but I took off a few stars, because it was a bit over the top for me, it felt a bit dragged out towards the end, and the story felt piecewise in such a way that many of the episodes had a loop of the story completed within just one episode, whereas I would have liked to see a more cohesive storyline.

  • Advance Bravely

    110. Advance Bravely

    Chinese Drama - 2017, 30 episodes

    7.5

I honestly don't know why it took me so long to get around to watching this one. The story line is decent (although not always the clearest to follow), the actors are gorgeous, and the episodes are only about 20 minutes long each, so it's a quick watch. The best part is that they really toe the line of Chinese censorship, meaning this is probably the closest to true BL you can get in China without getting cancelled. My biggest complaint is the last episode and a half. Reviews of this drama said similar things: the last episode doesn't fit, and the last five minutes are truly strange. I wish I had taken others' advice and finished watching after the dinner scene in episode 29.

  • Dark Blue and Moonlight

    116. Dark Blue and Moonlight

    Taiwanese Drama - 2017, 12 episodes

I think this had a happy ending? At least I like to interpret it as such. The special episodes that they released seemed to suggest it all ended well...

  • Two Weddings and a Funeral

    117. Two Weddings and a Funeral

    Korean Movie - 2012

    7.5

This one was cute, but played with my emotions a little (even though I think it's considered a comedy), because I just get too invested in the characters' lives. I would still recommend it, though.

  • Junjou

    118. Junjou

    Japanese Movie - 2010

    7.5

I probably would have rated this higher if they had different lead actors. I've seen both in different movies, and I'm just never convinced by the characters that they play. Other than that, I liked the storyline well enough, and it was a pretty entertaining movie, albeit slow like many other Japanese BL movies.

  • Silhouette of Your Voice

    119. Silhouette of Your Voice

    Japanese Movie - 2017

    7.5

This movie was quite cute with attractive actors and an interesting concept. It was a pretty calm movie, with really no big upsets or upheavals, but it was still entertaining to watch. It was a little hard to find a place to watch it, though, and I was unable to watch it with subtitles, which was frustrating so I'm not 100% sure I understood everything correctly.

This one is not BL, but it is based off of a BL novel. Instead, they turned it into a bromance. I thought the storyline was pretty interesting, and the lead characters had good chemistry, so it was still worth the watch in my opinion.

*SPOILER* (Not for the drama, but for the movie version)

Although this drama caught quite a bit of flack for being different from the movie, I really prefer a happy ending so there was no chance that I would like the movie better. I'm not going to lie, the acting was not the best, and the story was a little all over the place, but it wasn't that bad. I enjoyed it well enough, and everything seemed to get better the more I watched- including the acting and the story. I would like to see a second season for this.

  • Why R U?

    138. Why R U?

    Thai Drama - 2020, 13 episodes

    7.0

This is a pretty funny and entertaining drama. The characters are cute, and the story is pretty unique. Unfortunately, it was negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, so it doesn't flow as nicely as it would have if the virus didn't affect everything. It definitely had the potential to be really good, though, and it was still decent despite the struggles the creators had to overcome.

  • SaifahZon Story

    139. SaifahZon Story

    Thai Special - 2020, 3 episodes

    6.0

I think the purpose of this was to fill in some of the missing parts that got pushed out of Why R U? due to Covid, but they also tried to make it a standalone in a way. The end product involved a lot of fluff and very little happened in the duration of the special.

  • En of Love: Love Mechanics

    140. En of Love: Love Mechanics

    Thai Drama - 2020, 4 episodes

    7.0

This couple I thought was more dynamic than the couple in the in the first portion of the En of Love series (Tossara), but they cut the last episode short with behind the scenes and interviews when they could have used that time to explain the story more. That's really why I ended up rating both parts the same (7 stars). (Well, because of that and also what I say below.)

Potential TRIGGER warning/SPOILER: The story starts out with Mark being drunk, and Vee convincing him to have sex with him. Some people have debated over whether this is rape, so this might not be for everyone.

  • En of Love: TOSSARA

    141. En of Love: TOSSARA

    Thai Drama - 2020, 4 episodes

Short and sweet albeit somewhat cheesy and unrealistic story. It's an easy watch when you just want to see a feel-good storyline.

  • Gen Y Season 2

    150. Gen Y Season 2

    Thai Drama - 2021, 12 episodes

    7.0

I liked this season better than the first, but I wish they focused more on different story lines. Mark and Kit's was just tired, and I found their whole conflict simply annoying (not to mention dragged out for far too many episodes). Thanu, Wayu, andPa's storyline also got old really fast. Towards the middle I was really only watching for Pok and Tong and for Jack and Koh but both couples got such little airtime. That being said, it was still cute, and there wasn't that weird fairytale aspect they tried to do in the first season, so that was good.

  • Gen Y

    151. Gen Y

    Thai Drama - 2020, 12 episodes

    6.0

I don't know how I feel about this one. It wasn't awful, but there were parts that I watched where I was just so unhappy with what was happening. I felt they added in unnecessary storylines just to make the story more dramatic. (SPOILER: Like what even was that weird seeing visions of the future/past thing that all of a sudden started happening in like episode 10? So unnecessary.) That being said, there were also some cute parts, so I'm adding it.

*SPOILERS AHEAD* So this one doesn't have an unhappy ending, but while Mark and Kit seem to be overall settled and happy, Wayu's ending is a bit more unclear between his status with Thanu and Pha.

  • Enchanté

    152. Enchanté

    Thai Drama - 2022, 10 episodes

    7.0

The story for Enchante was silly and cute. Personally, I felt like the premise wasn't super interesting,  and so I had a hard time getting into the story. It only seemed to pick up at around episode 5 or so. After that, it did get a bit better. Overall, I'd still recommend.

    7.0
  • My Gear and Your Gown

    157. My Gear and Your Gown

    Thai Drama - 2020, 12 episodes

    7.0

*SPOILERS AHEAD* There are many cute moments in this, but in the end I was quite disappointed. The main couple spent the majority of the show in fight mode and really only got together as a couple in the last like 20 minutes of the last episode. I just wish there had been one more episode or something where they could have actually been a couple. Either that, or the creators could have reduced some of the screen time for one of the other two couples just a bit so the main couple's storyline could have developed more. Overall, I would still recommend the drama, but because of this glaring issue, I'm not as enthusiastic about it as I otherwise probably would have been.

    Thai Drama - 2020, 10 episodes

  • Athlete

    159. Athlete

    Japanese Movie - 2019

    7.0

I'm not going to lie, this wasn't one of my favorites. It was a little boring, and I wasn't incredibly impressed with the acting, but the ending wasn't super sad (although it was up to one's interpretation), so I decided to add it to this list.

  • Behind Cut

    162. Behind Cut

    Korean Drama - 2021, 8 episodes

    6.5

I liked this drama, but the editing was choppy, and the story had too many gaps. Maybe it would have been better if it had been just a bit longer.

  • Bite Me

    163. Bite Me

    Thai Drama - 2021, 11 episodes

    6.5

This one wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. The story was slow-moving, which isn't necessarily bad, and overall cute. However, the editing was a little weird with random shots of objects and whatnot that I think were supposed to be aesthetic but just didn't work. Also, the acting was a little stiff at times. Overall, not bad. It was a good drama to watch while waiting for others I want to watch more to come out.

  • Ingredients

    164. Ingredients

    Thai Special - 2020, 21 episodes

    6.5

This one has short episodes, but is somehow still really slow moving. I wasn't super excited while waiting for new episodes to come out, but it certainly wasn't the worst I've ever seen.

*SPOILER* Ending is more bittersweet than outright happy.

    169. Friend Zone

    Thai Drama - 2018, 12 episodes

    6.5

Ok, so this one is not technically BL, but there is a gay couple as one of the main couples. As many Thai dramas tend to be, the drama was overall dramatic (I know, shocker, right?) and not really what I would call "cute," but Singto (if you don't know, one of the leads from SOTUS) was in it, and I was interested in how it would end, so I kept watching it.

*Spoiler* The ending isn't exactly happy-go-lucky, but it's not sad or upsetting. I would say it's happy enough.

  • 'Cause You're My Boy

    170. 'Cause You're My Boy

    Thai Drama - 2018, 12 episodes

    6.5

This one was not the best in terms of storyline or acting, but it was still cute.

  • The Cornered Mouse Dreams of Cheese

    171. The Cornered Mouse Dreams of Cheese

    Japanese Movie - 2020

    6.5

I have many opinions about this one, but I will try to keep it brief. I have not read the manga (which I have heard is better than the movie), so my opinions are based solely on the movie. My feelings mainly revolve around the two leads. The main relationship is unhealthy and neither of the lead characters are particularly likable, each in his own special way. In particular, Koichi has no respect for anyone, including himself, nor does he seem to be able to think in a coherent way that does not revolve around himself. And then there's Imagase who coerces Koichi into a relationship and then spends the entire movie irrationally jealous over a known cheater. It was frustrating to watch. Also, be warned, this drama has explicit nudity and adult relationships.

SPOILER: The ending seems like it's trying to be hopeful, but it comes off as more sad.

  • Capture Lover

    172. Capture Lover

    Chinese Drama - 2020, 10 episodes

    6.5

My recommendation for this one is to not go into it with high hopes. The quality is not great, and the storyline is choppy. However, it's so rare that we get a BL drama out of China, and I'm sure the cast and crew had to make do with what they had, so all I can feel is appreciation that we got this drama and that the  ending was actually happy.

  • Secret Spectacles

    173. Secret Spectacles

    Korean Movie - 2017

    6.5
  • Roommate

    174. Roommate

    Thai Drama - 2020, 4 episodes

    6.5

(SPOILERS AHEAD) I'm hesitantly recommending this one. Although this series says it's 4 episodes long, really it should be 5, because the actual ending is in the special episode. That being said, if you only watch the four episodes without the special, it ends on sort of a creepy, rapey note, which I really didn't appreciate or approve of. It's largely explained away in the special episode, but the fact that it's in there at all made my rating drop down quite a bit.

  • The Lover

    178. The Lover

    Korean Drama - 2015, 12 episodes

    6.0

This isn't technically BL as it's only hinted at that the one couple is gay, but I kind of love their interactions with each other, so I'm putting this in here for my own satisfaction.

  • Until We Meet Again

    179. Until We Meet Again

    Thai Drama - 2019, 17 episodes

    6.0

Not going to lie, this wasn't my favorite. The story line was a little all over the place, and there was so much extraneous fluff that I feel like the whole thing could have been at least one episode shorter if not two or three episodes. Also, (this isn't necessarily bad) this was a tear-jerker, so if you do watch it, have your tissues ready. The ending is happy, though.

    Trigger warning: Suicide

  • In Your Heart

    180. In Your Heart

    Chinese Drama - 2022, 8 episodes

    6.0

This drama I'm a bit upset with. Quality wise, it wasn't the best, but the story was generally okay, until the last episode. Moreover, since it was from China with all kinds of restrictions, I actually wasn't even bothered by quality. *SPOILERS AHEAD* However, the choices the writers made in the last episode were inappropriate and didn't even follow the rest of story. After all the love and kindness between the two leads, it didn't make sense that Cheng Yi would treat Ling Ziming like that. So while I'm giving it a relatively high rating, the rating is largely for the first seven episodes, and most of the points came off because of the last one.

This was probably the cheesiest BL I've ever watched. The production quality wasn't great, the storyline was almost entirely unrealistic, and the acting was subpar. That being said, it was still cute, and it's nice and short, so it's good for the times when you just want to see something simple that'll make you feel good.

  • My Boy

    189. My Boy

    Thai Drama - 2021, 12 episodes

    6.0

This one was okay at best. It was a good time filler for other dramas that I wanted to watch more, but that's really all I could say about it. The acting wasn't great, the chemistry between the actors was lacking, and there were too many story lines started and then never addressed again. It certainly wasn't the worst thing ever, but I probably wouldn't watch it again.

  • Kissable Lips

    190. Kissable Lips

    5.0

SPOILER This one doesn't have a happy ending, but it's not overdramatized like some sadder endings, so it doesn't feel as sad as it could have been, so I put it on this list. That being said, it isn't happy, so be warned if you decide to watch.
