WHY THE THAI VERSION ;)
Starting on a casual note, I've never had a good experience with Thai dramas, idk why but never did any drama hit THE SPOT until F4 Thailand. I'm seriously a drama activist and enjoy watching dramas but my eye always goes towards the technicalities. Putting the issue forward, for me Thai dramas always meant boring and cringey, with bad cinematography (maybe I came across bad dramas only) but F4T changed it.At first I was a little hesitant towards watching F4T since I am in love with Boys Over Flowers saga. I've literally seen every version from the old ones and the manga to now watching F4T. But when I was watching Meteor Garden (Chinese Adaptation), I felt it lost all the feels and tried to add innovation but took away the essence of the original story. Obviously, when it is an adaptation it doesn't necessarily have to be the exact copy but if you are taking away the originality of the actual story than do not call it an adaptation - which is why I was hesitant towards watching the Thai adaptation.
Now when I watched the Thai version, I was stunned. LIKE LITERALLY! BOOM!
I can't believe I'm saying this, but I found it better than all the versions. Some people close to me are saying that I think this way because the Korean Boys Over Flowers was old and this is new. NO!
The way I can relate with the characters is unbelievable. For a person like me, who can't watch a thing that she just watched again, I've completed the ongoing drama 3 times now.
Q: Why do I feel like this?
Answer: Unlike many other Thai dramas, and watching the interviews of the cast and director of F4T as well as watching the drama I come to a conclusion that everyone has done their homework on the drama, not only did they bring innovation to it while keeping the originality of Boys Over Flowers, watching the drama feels like I won't know what's gonna happen next when I already know. NEVER FELT THAT BEFORE.
The casting, the setting, the characterization is spot on.
Thyme's Character:
This character is the main attraction for me, and not as Bright but as Thyme.
Originally, I found Junpyo best in this character. Imagine you have a danger meter, Lee Minho hit the red line but Bright, he hit the bright red (get it 'bright' red ;p), the fiercest line. While keeping the essence of the character, Bright played Thyme excellently; Thyme is childish and cute to the extreme level but he is also vulnerable, possessive and aggressive to the other extreme end and at the same time, he is mature unlike other first male lead characters in the other version. Can you believe having all these traits in one character in such a way that these traits don't overpower or overshadow the others? There's a perfect balance and this balance added icing to the cake and plus Bright's looks were just finishing the touches but here, I would like to appreciate him so much more than just looks. I came to this drama, thinking he doesn't suit the character, let alone look handsome, and now I'm leaving saying that this person is complete from every sphere and no one else could have played this role better than him.
Plus hat's off to the rest of the cast and the director as well as GMMTV for putting variety of issues in this drama that happen in real life. GMMTV, I'll be checking more of your dramas that will air in the future, I've seen the trailers and seem very interesting, though I won't be watching the older ones since I researched and they don't fit my taste but the upcoming ones are surely my treat. Please give me good recommendations though :).

Without posting spoilers it's difficult to explain why I liked this drama so much. First, the story was interesting from beginning to end. I didn't feel like there was any lag as it got close to the end.
Second, I easily related to the male lead because I have some of the same issues he does.
Third, despite all the ups and downs I enjoyed the family dynamic.
Fourth, good combination of romance, comedy, and friendship
Last, excellent chemistry between all the actors.

If you search for the drama's plot, you'll find that "it's about the delicate relationship between a female university student Hong Seol and her senior Yoo Jung." But it's actually more than that.
This drama is about life. It's about my life, your life... It's more than a drama or webtoon. It's realistic and really makes you think about everything.
It's about friendship, classmates, lovers. I'm happy that we could see different types of problematic relationships in families.
It teaches you that communication is the most important thing in one relationship.
It teaches that you can't always be good to people because they're going to use you.
It teaches you that revenge isn't always the right answer.
It teaches not to give up on your dreams or laugh at someone else's dream.
It teaches so many things and I'm sure that everyone will find an answer of personal questions because I found so many answers in this drama.
The cast was perfect for this drama, every actor had their own way to represent their character and they did a good job. The chemistry between Park Hae Jin and Kim Go Eun was just right but everyone was talking about the second lead Seo Kang Joon... and I can't judge! You'll fall in his trap so fast and you'll feel the pain.
The OST is really beautiful, fits perfectly. If I could choose a foreign song to describe this drama or Seol and Jung's relationship I would pick - A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera - Say Something.
What I like about this drama:
- the second lead - Good job, Seo Kang Joon! You stole my heart!
- mystery - I liked all the mystery around the main characters, it keeps you awake.
- the chemistry between Park Hae Jin and Kim Go Eun
- rich guy - poor girl - I really liked that they didn't even focus on this or make it a main problem of the drama.
- university environment
What I don't like about this drama:
- love triangle
I don't know why many people didn't like the ending, it was a very beautiful way to say "I still love you."
PS: I know 9/10 is really high but the drama was just what I wanted to see and feel the past months.

This was another great Korean movie. It was packed with action and comedy. This movie really kept you on edge on your seat and glued your eyes to the screen. I love how Jo Jung Suk always keep his quirky side whenever he played a character. He never disappoint me in comedy area. Really love him in dramas and movies. Yoonah was great as well... she was quite comedic here. Overall, I love their chemistry, although there is not much romance in this movie but how the two characters help each other was really great. Wish there is more story of their future together in the movie but well maybe the writers leave it to our own imagination. I like the way the story goes as the poisonous gas did not turn anyone into zombie or dead or any other. It was simply a poisonous gas. Guess the focus of this movie was how the 2 main characters survived.
The rest of the characters had their own unique way to make the whole movie fun to watch.
Oh.. love how they tell us in the end how the 2 main characters were saved from their fall (almost towards the credit scene if you see carefully *spoiler*, after Yoonah's character cut the rope, the both of them fell as the rope slipped away from the pipe but the end up on a blue-like tarp on the building and bounced back into the building being constructed).
Overall.. it was a fun and great movie to watch. I found myself cringe many times when the 2 main characters climb or jump from building to building.
Although I didn't get to watch it in cinema.. it was great to be able to stream it online. If you guys wanna watch.. here's the link :

I just have watched the 5th episode (for me, the best one so far) and I am sad that there is only one episode left. I could watch this all day and night because THIS is true. It is not one more of an unrealistic BL-story.Do not get me wrong, I like a good romantic BL. But this show is so much closer to the real life of a gay couple! This is a fact that often bothers me, that 99% of the BL series our there are not about gay relationships but only exist to please a certain kind of viewers: women who ship the actors even in their private life, regardless if they are real or not.
This show really "get's to the point": the stuggle about having a child as a gay couple, the acceptance of the queer friend group, but not the family (although episode 5 made me burst in applause for the dad, BEST DAD EVER!), the "need" to hide in front of the mom's at kindergarden - and the actors are absolutely believable, they work amazing with each other.
I would love to see more of these series, where it is not about "Am I gay? No, I only love this paritcular boy *blabla*" or engineering students falling in love with each other while women are hysterically screaming in the background. Show us how it is to live in a gay / lesbian / queer relationship, only "true" shows like this will lead to a bigger acceptance in real life! THIS creates real support, not stupid character / actor - shipping.

Im Soo Jung is really great as Su mi, and I loved the tension between her and Yeom Jeong-ah, and her sweet relationship with Moon Geun Young.
The cinematography is absolutely beautiful.
The music by Lee Byung Woo has become of one of my all time favorite musical pieces from a film. I just had to have the soundtrack, and it didn't matter that it was mostly different variations of the same awesome song.
Acting-Story-Music-Visually... This movie impressed me all around.
There was a remake made of this film called "The Uninvited", but the story was completely revamped. Though the remake was entertaining, it doesn't come close to this version.
I absolutely recommend this movie! I bought it, and have rewatched it many times.

A line from Paulo Coelho's "The Alchemist" goes like, "There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure." The future is indeed yours if you know how to appreciate and believe in thr beauty of your dreams. So it's important you're always led by your dreams. Also, your struggle is something that sharpens you into a fine person. There is scarcely any passion without struggle. "Idol: The Coup" is a story of big dreams and the struggle on the way.IDOL: THE COUP (아이돌: 더 쿠데타) is the very last story of "Cotton Candy", a failed kpop group, idols of which are determined to prevent the disbandment of their group by any means despite the amount of misfortune befall on them. At the center is Kim Jenna, the leader of the group, who's desperate to grab even the smallest opportunity to save the group. With six months on their hand, the group goes against the newly appointed CEO of their company and prepares themselves to leave the industry with dignity and grace.
To a great deal, the drama portrays the real underlying issues in the Kpop industry as well as the companies and their policies for people under them. The harsh attitude of the public torwards the rookie as well as failed artists is also accurately showcased. The companies going after money over the talent of artists abd then ditching the idols once they loose their popularity is another major problem placed in the show.
Kim Je Na (Ahn Hee Yun) is the thread that holds all the members of Cotton Candy together. Aware or their devastated reality, she still wants to hold onto the group given their past involving their journey tilll their debut. Seo Ji Han (Kim Min Kyu) is the leader of the a rapidly rising boy group "Mars" who has this soft side to people with talent and immensely favors Jenna and her group. Cha Jae Hyuk (Kwak Shi Yang) is the newly appointed CEO of Starpeace Ent. the company that started with Cotton Candy and is on rise bcs of Mars. These 3 are the main characters and Min Kyu is in fact the least experienced among them. Kwak Shi Yang is undoubtedly a very good actor whereas Ahn Hee Yun has improved over years.
There are many characters given the drama is about the Kpop industry involving Kpop groups and companies. There are less familiar as actors casted for the young characters though you might know some of them if you thoroughly follow Kpop. Honestly, their acting wasn't much impressive rather some of them failed to deliver appropriate emotions and lacked coordination. But I guess overally they were able to perform as much it was demanded from them basing upon their skills. Some characters were likable where some made me hate them to a great deal.
Among some good actors casted in minor roles are Ahn Se Ha and Jung Woong In.
Plot development is quite fine with several peaks throughout. Misery just keep embracing the girls from Cotton Candy one after another; a little moment of joy is followed by series of tragedy. The events are mostly saddening so it can make you cry constantly if you're very sensitive. The progression is good and steady. The drama starts with a seemingly funny yet sob-story and ends with a goor impression.
Noh Jung Chan PD-nim has been there in the industry for over a decade but his previous dramas are pretty average. Given that fact, he seems to have improved here, providing the drama all his determination. The screenplay is pretty good, in fact amazing in few instances. I am also okay with the pacing the dramas was run with. The screen-editing, syncs, organization and coordination... all these were well handled.
Jung Yoon Jung jakka-nim is known for dramas like "Misaeng" and "The Bride of Habaek"; the former is a quality hit whereas the latter is a quality flop. I love this script,b despite few potholes (let's call it missed plots). The introduction, the development and the ending, everything is well presented. So happy she has incorporated most of the possible issues with the industries in a "slice of life" way for the idols' lives, portraying a real image and the dark and known, yet ignored scenarios associate to it.
The songs!? Oh my goodness! They're so dope TT. If you're into Kpop then you won't be able to help but love them so much. There is no OST in the drama, rather only one opening theme, which is also used as a bg plus theme in the drama. All other songs are in fact sung by many artists along with the imaginary idol groups: Mars & Cotton Candy, featured in the drama.
The makers have also added 2-3 mins interviews at the beginning of each episode, from several rookie artists and trainees as well as some failed artists. This segment is something that breaks your heart more than the drama bcs it's the real story.
Overally, "Idol: The Coup" is an above average drama with a decent plotline, par acting with several major issues to learn about and a good outcome. Judging from production value and every other aspects this is an uo to scratch piece and worth the one time watch, especially for the multistan Kpop fans. I would not say it's a much watch but I surely enjoyed it and recommend others as well.

One more thing, I would suggest watching this drama on Viki, and not Dramafever because Dramafever cut some scenes out of it. I checked the other day because I thought there wouldn't be a difference, but there is.

Hanzawa Naoki is the kind of dramas that bumps of the crowd to keep you at the edge of your seat through its astonishing screenwriting, gripping events and high-class acting. This drama didn’t get the highest rating in modern times for naught. It was well worth it from any angle you look at it. You may be wondering: what’s so special about this drama that made people go crazy over it in Japan while the international audience couldn’t care less about it? To find out the answer I had to start this adventure and jump into a world I am not very familiar with: The world of business, bankers and salary men.
Hanzawa Naoki deals with the world of banks which is a non-famous theme for Asian dramas. The story brings the harsh facts about that world to light while focusing on the intense fights that the male lead has to go through in order to survive in that field without abandoning his ideals. What this drama outshines at is the stunning screenwriting and the solid characterization; the storyline was so involving with many twists and turns that will make you eager for more. The smart writing managed to make the events flow by in a thrilling and gripping way without being heavily present or irrationally exaggerated. In terms of directing, I would say that this drama’s business theme was perfectly expressed whether though the well-made cinematography or the nicely chosen shooting angles.
The acting department in this drama was superb; every actor pulled his role in a great way. Extra credits to one of the most phenomenal actors in Japan: Sakai Masato. That man’s acting skills are no joke; he can pull off his roles in a brilliant way and his Hanzawa Naoki’s portrayal is the best proof; he’s a genius actor indeed. And since we’re talking about acting skills, I have to mention the second best actor in this drama: Kagawa Teruyuki who was super amazing as Owada.
Speaking about characters, Hanzawa Naoki owned the show and no one succeeded in stealing the spotlight from him. He’s an overwhelming smart character that will make you absorbed in his intelligent choices and actions. He counts every situation he comes across and he’s always one step ahead of his opponents. Whenever Hanzawa puts the fierce look on his face and starts the “Payback”, get ready to be blown away by his unique way of flipping tables around. As for other characters, each and every one of them was important for the storyline’s development and the characters’ interactions that were beautifully accomplished.
Taken as a whole, I am fully aware why would everyone avoid this type of drama; it has a non-enjoyable theme for most people, no romantic plot and no idol stars as main actors, that’s why I am pretty sure it’s not directed for everyone. However, that doesn’t deny the fact that this is one the best made dramas out there even if it doesn’t get the appropriate attention.

Story: A whole group of people pulled into a game where there is huge money at stake, surrounded with lies and manipulation - can the truth speak out? It really makes you think - and that's what I liked about it. When you are on a game where lying is key - should you be even more honest? or should you do your best to manipulate others? I myself am a very very bad liar - as soon as I even try and lie - I'll start laughing and end up giving myself away... I am however very suspicious of people and their intentions - I don't trust easily..."Trust is built up over time but it can break in a split second."
Cast: Ha Woo Jin (Lee Sang Yoon) He was one of the biggest reasons I started this drama. & He became my absolute favorite character. His character is insanely attractive and mysterious, and he holds that quality that you know you can trust him no matter what. As soon as he is released from jail he meets Nam Da Jung (Kim So Eun) who asks him to help her on 'Liar Game'. This is my first time seeing her but I absolutely loved her, she's a great actress & I'll be looking forward to more projects by her. She totally fit the part of a naïve honest person. Kang Do Young (Shin Sung Rok) The mastermind of Liar Game - I swear he is evil to his core... Jo Dal Goo (Jo Jae Yun) I loved his character lol - this actor can always make me laugh :P Jamie (Lee El) She was hateful at first but as the show progressed I started to like her (weird) lol
Music: It was intense but I can't say I remember any songs...
Re-watch Value: 9.5 - very high, I will definitely re-watch this someday.

Don't hate me for being critical & cynical and not giving this a 10
Completed - 8/29/2022 - 8.25 ratingI enjoyed “Love Between Fairy and Devil” but maybe not as much as most of the audience. I’ve watched my fair share of xianxia dramas and usually I am not a big fan of the cute and bubbly lead. I don't dislike the Little Orchid and am OK with her voice. I am just indifferent. It's Esther Yu's real voice so I am fine with it, as I am a strong proponent of actors using their real voices. The heart-breaking romance did not move me as much as I wanted. The lighthearted tone of the first 18-20 episodes took me a while to get used it. I might just be a cynical old lady that takes a little more effort to move me., especially after finishing "Love Like the Galaxy" not too long ago. Please do not hate me for not giving a perfect rating. There are plenty of things I like about this drama as well.
What I Like:
1. Anti-Hero Male Lead - Just like many others, I am a fan of our anti-hero, Dong Fang Qing Cang (DFQC). Most xianxia heroes are either gods or princes, and rarely do we have someone from the devil side as a male lead. Dylan Wang did a fantastic job in portraying the ruthless and heartless devil, and was able to switch gears during the body swap. You can see from his big eyes how his emotions change from ruthless to adorably pouty. Most anti-hero and gray characters in C-dramas are second male leads, so it’s nice to see a change here. I’ve also enjoyed his transformation from beginning to the end. I do have a minor criticism about our male lead below.
2. Lack of these xianxia tropes + fun new things:
♦︎ No annoying female characters who were obsessed with their unrequited love and became scheming bitches. I am so glad Dan Yin remains a good person from start to finish.
♦︎ No misunderstandings/scheming - xianxia dramas frequently have annoying plot lines created just to break the leads apart. And these misunderstandings are usually caused by jealous men and women. I am glad we don’t really have that here.
♦︎ Hanging out inside a painting is fun and creative.
♦︎ For once our main leads are not going through trials in the mortal realm themselves.
3. Costumes and Accessories - Beautiful costumes for both male and female characters. I really like the hairstyles of the male leads, with simple hair accessories (except those flimsy looking war gears which really don’t seem to be made for battles). Our Little Orchid looks beautiful in all of her dresses no matter where she is. I was particularly interested in the wedding fans. I've rarely seen such beautiful and intricate ones with golden accessories adorned on them. Most of the time, they are just beautiful patterns or colors.
4. Overall Acting - I’ve already mentioned that I really enjoy Dylan Wang’s acting. I didn’t watch “Miss the Dragon” so I don’t know how bad he was, but I’ve seen “The Rational Life” and he did fine. But in this drama, his character allows him to showcase his acting skills. I’ve seen a few Esther Yu’s dramas in the past and she is also playing the cute and bubbly roles. I think she met my expectations but not amazing. With the body swap, you could clearly see Dylan Wang did a much better job. Esther’s gazes were not sharp and stern enough. She tried to look serious but it’s not coming off right. Zhang Ling He has come a long way since his first drama, “Maiden Holmes”. This is my fourth drama of his and it’s his best acting yet. Playing two very different characters in this drama provided him the best opportunity to show us how much he has grown. He’s not amazing yet, but he’s going in the right direction. I've been a fan of Xu Hai Qiao since I first saw him in “Lost Love in Times” and he played Rong Hao admirably, especially his sad and emotional scenes. At least I pity him here instead of hating him in “A Dream of Splendor”. The rest of the supporting cast did a decent job. I would not say the veterans outshine the younger generation in this drama. I think Dylan Wang is the brightest star in the drama.
5. OST - I like the songs in this drama and also the background music. 诀爱 by 詹雯婷 is my favorite song.
What I have mixed feelings or don’t like:
1. Male Leads in Love - As much as I love DFQC, I miss his ruthlessness in the later episodes. I have a similar criticism in other dramas. Once you are in love, you seem to lose yourself and become a lovesick puppy and forget who you were in the past. I believe you could be totally in love, yet still don’t lose your former self. Unfortunately, I think both DFQC and Chang Heng fell short in this area.
2. CGI - There are many praises about how beautiful this drama is and we can see the numerous screenshots on the Feeds during the airing of this drama. And I agree that there are many scenery shots that are beautiful and very fairytale-like. However, I also feel that these shots are overused and after a while, the whole drama seems so ‘fake’ because it’s full of green screen scenes. I also find the final battle has the weakest CGI of the whole drama. On the other hand, I really enjoy the CGI in individual fight scenes, e.g. DFQC vs Chang Heng and DFQC saving the Little Orchid and battling the gods. Those were some of the best special effects I've seen used in battle scenes. It rivals my love of the purple CGI in “Ancient Love Poetry”.
3. Cannot avoid some common xianxia tropes - love obsession that started all evil deeds, the story is always about the aftermath of a war thousands of years ago, noble idiocy and sacrifices, Gods always seem to be more evil than the Devils, Love triangles/squares/pentagons, etc.
4. Secondary characters and plots are underdeveloped - Possibly because this is a shorter drama, I feel that the secondary romance between Shang Que and Jie Li is under-developed and quite boring. They could have been an interesting opposites-attract duo, but unfortunately I find Jie Li to be the most annoying character in this drama. Similarly, the truth and reunion between Jie Li and her family are very anti-climatic. Reuniting with her family was so brief that it only serves to move along Rong Hao’s story. I also want to know more of Rong Hao's story with the Goddess of War aside from the same few flashback scenes.
5. Pacing - As a short xianxia drama, the pace is fast. I don’t think you will hear complaints about a slow start. However, I still think the drama focuses too long in the initial 18-20 episodes in the Heavenly Realm and ran out of time in the last few episodes. Those early episodes were not my personal favorites. I didn’t start really liking the drama until they started the mortal realm, and then the story moves along more interestingly for me. However, the ending felt rushed and…predictable?
Other Random Observations:
♦︎ When you are so powerful, I think you could have saved your girl from drowning just by a snap of your fingers, without kissing. Fan service!
♦︎ Had to fast forward the scene when the Little Orchid was crawling in the sand. It took too long. LOL
♦︎ Why do these gods and devils need to give piggy back rides when they can teleport?
♦︎ I need better kisses. They are really not as passionate as I want them to be, especially the ones in the last couple episodes. Some kisses felt like they are just there to please fans of these idol actors. *I’m going to hide now*

BEST THING ABOUT THIS SHOW IS THAT IT'S OVER
This show is the worst thing i've ever done to myself and if that's the case with you too, congratulations. You've come to the right place. I have extreme hatred towards everything that happened, specially Tharn. Let's get further into it, you and me. Join me in this journey and scream into a void with me.Starting with the fact how the title is fooling us. It's been 7 minutes since Type and Tharn started dating and not 7 years bec that's how they act. Their relationship has always been toxic but I never expected that they'll have no trust in each other whatsoever. They act like babies and it's frustrating to watch. Definitely not a like couple who has been together for 7 years and that's how you know that the show is already bad.
Moving on, THARN IS HUMANITY'S WORST ENEMY! he is really the worst character. He is obsessed with one thing and one thing only. and that is getting into Type's pants. It's like he can't seem to think of anything else at all. He said he likes type in tank tops and that Type is trying to seduce him by wearing them around the house. ????? What does this even mean? So Type can't even wear comfortable clothing in his own house bec apparently he's "seducing" his sex crazed partner? What an amazing message to convey to the viewers. *SLOW CLAPSSS*. Secondly, his whiny face. He is constantly complaining or crying about something or the other each and every episode. It's really unpleasant, and most importantly, it doesn't make me feel bad for him at all because he's a full grown man. It's just repetitive and shows that Tharn has no other personality trait.
I can never wrap my head around the fact that Tharn saw Fiat kissing Type but not when Type pushed him away and yelled at him? How is that even possible? Anyway, that whole plot was garbage.
Let's talk about Type a bit now, he was genuinely doing so well. The only character who grew up and was acting like an adult. His character development was interesting to watch and it made the show a little bearable. BUT NO, they had to go ahead and ruin that by showing ugh the whole Fiat kidnapping and assault plan. YES, YOU HEARD ME RIGHT. IT WAS ASSAULT AND IT IS NOT ROMANTIC AT ALL. What Fiat did was wrong but this was not the way to deal with it all!! Because assault is never the answer to anything! whether it's physical or mental. It traumatised Fiat and will probably affect him for the rest of his life. There were 847567475 ways to deal with this but the writer of the novel has always been obsessed with assault and non consensual scenes so I wasn't surprised. Disappointed , YES FOR SURE but not surprised. Considering the fact that Type is a victim of assault himself, he should've known what it can do to a person and would not have done what he did. Now that's what Type after 7 years of graduation would've done because that's how a rational grown up will react. But it's been 7 minutes and not 7 years so what can we do. Also, why was Type interested in Fiat's love life more than clearing things out with Tharn or making sure that he's doing alright?? I would never understand.
Type's dad is another garbage character. He's been complaining about the same thing since 7 years. Homophobia was never funny to me and never will be. He is extremely annoying and overbearing and he makes me wanna punch a wall. He didn't resist telling his committed son (repeatedly) that he should find a "beautiful" girl and get married to her. The worst part of it all is that he's been against the relationship for 7 years but immediately agrees to it once Tharn's sister Thanya comes to visit? WHY? Because she's his favorite actress? I can't get over this shit. Speaking of unbearable characters, Techno. I actually liked him in the first season. But again, they had one good thing but they tried soo hard that they ended up ruining that too. He doesn't stop talking and is clowning ALL. THE. DAMN. TIME.
The last episode was extremely boring and dragged. I really didn't understand why we got to see Thorn's wedding for 20 mins since I never connected with the couple, they had a total 15 mins of screen time in the whole season but we're somehow supposed to feel heartfelt and enjoy their wedding for the majority of the season finale? Shit is not adding up for me.
Saving the best for last, DocChamp. Except for type's bald egg, they were the cutest, most unproblematic couple. But we hardly got to see them because of course, they weren't toxic so why would we? Right? But I loved them regardless because they denoted hope in a way and I always looked forward to their scenes.
Leo and Fiat were cute too but only when they were on their own. The constantly crying Fiat hurt my eyes and honestly, I was least interested but I wouldn't have minded more LeoFiat. They had endless oppurtunities with the side couples but ended up taking advantage of none. All we saw was the same toxicity again and again on a loop.
For me personally, this show was worse than the first season. It was a complete disaster. Every week I watched because I was one episode closer to the end. MewGulf are extremely talented actors and I would really like to see them in another series again and hopefully something good. They did a great job but the storyline was just not it for me. I'm glad this show is over because we really don't need any more of it to be honest.

Also, tell me why the moment JJ showed up, I went ‘Wait, isn’t that the boot licker from Pitbabe? yo Kenta, what your arse doing here?’ LMAO.No really, the moment Kluer said, ’Stir fried with long beans’ I went ‘Damnnnn Susan, yous is petty!’ Not gonna lie, I clapped a bit, be petty Susan, be petty. Up until the finale, I thought he was gonna be the only petty character, but seeing Chef open a restaurant right around the corner was a whole new level of pettiness, damn what's in the water in that restaurant?
Chef Oab: You are Eliminated! As a chef, always be aware of the cleanliness of the kitchen.

Chef Oab’s naked butt on the kitchen counter, doing the devils tango with Plawan.

Peoples, we are eating stuff…if this is what happens behind the scenes of these restaurants, imma learn to make my own tiramisu. Also, what's with Chef and doing it in the kitchen? Every chance he get he's breaking plates and spilling product placement noddles.
Anywho, RIP to those of us who watched this without food, and almost ended up licking our screens. The food looked sooo appetising! And, am I the only one who even blew on invisible food every time the characters did? Damn I’m hungry.
CHARACTERS
I think everyone did what they were supposed to, which was refreshing. SailubPon were good in their roles, had great chemistry and managed to keep my interest. Most of the times, I intend to get pulled in by the second leads, but here, although I was enjoying the dynamic of the second couples, my focus was on the main leads.
Or course, Plawan chopping the chef while working for Methas was a big-no-no, but hey, I’m here for the drama, so I kept cheering on him to not tell Oab until it was too late. I like that they weren't overbearing, even when that female showed up and there was misunderstanding, they didn't break up. It was a good change, seeing adults act like adults. I really liked it.
The will they won’t they relationship of the second couple was good. You could cut the tension between them with a bread knife. Which was why, I was a bit disappointed with the finale. I didn't want KinnPorsche level of swimming pool end, but like, this was them throughout the series:
Intense stares. Helping you pee. Falling on your naked body. His face really close to his face. Cinema dates. Buying the hospital you work at. Near kisses with so much tension. Slow burn. If you want me, earn me speeches. More intense stares. THEN, in the finally, JJ shows up in a towel, and it's like:
JJ: I'm half naked, boobs on display, please, go home, I want to sleep. Hehe, don't look at me, hehe stop it.
METHAS: *In love noises* Come here. You're in trouble today.
ME: Girl, it's about to go down. They about to break Methas other leg and the bed.
WRITERS *Missionary kisses. Next scene. They engage.*
ME: Engaged? Dafug y'all rushing for??
Like, that's not what was advertised? Sirs, we did not order this? Where the food at? What happened to the promised good eating? I mean, I'm satisfied with what they gave me, but I'm not full. That's that make sense? It wasn't bad, but it just felt flat after all that tension. That being said, they were cute in that scene.
Anyway, my only problem in the beginning was that JJ was asking too much of Methas. Sure, all he wanted him to do is to be more human, instead of an evil business man, and good on him, Methas needed to know that JJ will only date someone he felt was a good person. But at the same time, JJ forcing Methas to be ‘a good human’ defeated the purpose of growth. But I think this was redeem in the finale, cuz even though he had the ultimatum, he was still popping champagne, and it took him losing JJ and taking his advice for him to come to the good side. So, a bit of grown on his own, which was good. And frankly, I think he's the only who had any major sort of growth, everyone else was pretty much the same with little changes.
But like Methas' whole personality was like: money, money, annoying, money, annoying, money. Then when he fell in love he was like a child at a candy store. It was funny to see him out there giving out free rent instead of increasing the prices. Also, that wedding ring. Damn, that rock shined brighter than the sun. But tell me why homeboy told JJ he'd teach him how to love? Child, you just learned it like two seconds ago, and your definition of it still so-so, so what you gonna teach him?
Listen, KLUER is a loser. And not the graceful kind, but the kind you wanna leave at disneyland on his birthday. He sucks. Characters like him are the reason why I sometimes thinks second leads deserves no right.
This dude was doing too much, all because he had a crush. First, calling Khao Suay to come back home and disturb our peace, then trying to state some claim when he saw Chef and Plawan might have something on the side, then literally trying to kiss him while he was 'asleep', then immediately hating him cuz he was a spy.
I laughed. The deep kind that makes you choke, when Chef and Plawan were eating each other and Kluer was alone on his bed sobbing. The editing was chefs kiss, best scene sequence ever. Good job editors. Yes, Kluer looked so sad and pathetic, and I was supposed to feel bad for him, but at that time, I was so done with him, his lonely arse weeping with in a pain with heartbreak made me laugh happy tears. Then when he got rejected, he was remembering when he almost kissed Plawan in his sleep. Son of Adam, how is that what you choose to remember, was that a happy memory for you? cuz…
I'm glad his pathetic arse finally grew up and came back to work with the team. I did understand him in the end, first Chef could have left the restaurant to him since they worked together for so long, but he decided to hold a competition. Then, Chef again stole/fell in love with his crush. That must have hurt, in the finale when he was chanting 'get marry' I was like, damn, 'you gonna cry into your pillow tonight, ain't you Susan?' but he seemed generally happy... sooo...
PLOT:
Listen, I think This Love Doesn’t Have Long Beans was wrongfully named. Sure, that female character who doesn't like long beans showed up to annoy us for like two episodes, then got dump while trying to eat her sandwich. (Side note: Chef, really, did you have to bring her the sandwich? It made me laugh. And gawd, he was so brutal when he dumped her. Yikes. ‘I don’t think I ever loved you’ damn, #sad) But still, it should have been called This Love Has A Boatload of Basil. Cuz really, that’s all they talked and smelled about. Plawan spent more than half the series sniffing Chef cuz he smelled of basil.
I have dried basil at home, but I’m tempted to go to the grocery store and sniff a fresh one to see what all the fuss is about. That would be weird, right. Yeah, that’s weird… don’t wanna be labelled the ‘basil sniffer,’ people know me in this town.
And, sure, I’d like for female characters to stop popping up like rent is due to cause unnecessary drama, but they add to the good drama when done right, and this one made me dislike Kluer more, and brought out Plawan’s sassy side, so we good. Plus, her arse got dumped while eating a sandwish and made me laugh, so thanks for your service female ex-girlfriend.
Anywho, there wasn't anything big, or special about the plotline. The story has been done before. It's always a nasty job when you date someone you work with, and that too the boss, but I like that it wasn't just a workplace romance, and it started out as a con. Sure we all knew he was gonna fall in love in the end, and they gonna have a happy ending, but the execution of it, was done well with a good cast, which made it interesting to watch.
The plot gave me exactly when it promised, and for that I enjoyed it. It was a simply story about food that managed to entertain me every week. A lot of dramas have been trying to fit so many themes and genres into them, that I’m all too happy when I stumble upon a simply slice of life like this one.
FINALE
I went into the finale ready for drama in the first few minutes cuz now Chef knew Plawan has been deceiving him, instead, he just chopped him well-well. And the whole time I was like… hmm, sirs, where is my drama?
ME: Enough eating each other to robotic background music, give me drama!! I want drama. I want yelling, throwing stuff. Drama. Drama. Drama.
*Writers give me drama. Tears, yelling, shoving, rain, outside, fatal position.*
ME: Nooo *in the corner crying* that’s too much drama. Take it back. Take it back.
Which of course immediately turned into laughter, cuz damn Chef did Plawan dirty opening that restaurant. So petty, and for what? Then he went and ordered food from him, so he'd come and see his new place. That was Foul!! Though, I like how when Plawan finally came to say sorry, he accepted, warned him to never break his heart again, and immediately violated all the health codes. Loved that Plawan was the one to propose, I was like awww, that too surrounded by basils.
Overall, the finale felt a bit rush towards the end, but it didn't leave any major loose ends, and I was satisfied with it, so we all good. All in all, a good show, that I’ll highly recommend to anyone looking for something unheavy to watch. I enjoyed it. Looking forward to more work from the cast.

Beautiful Heartwarming Xianxia! BFTB saved me from its Youku Predecessor!
TTEOTM and BFTB is completely unrelated in story, just to be clear... It's just that the comparison for me is... One is heaven (Back from the Brink ; Huxin), the other is Hell (Till the end of the Moon). How can two dramas by Youku gave me two polar opposite feelings? But this is exactly how I feel.Honestly, I want to take this time, to express my gratitude to this drama: Back from the Brink (Hu Xin): Thank you for giving me this Drama, where I can heal my heart/pain from its predecessor Youku Drama: Till the end of the Moon (TTEOTM). One of the many things I'm grateful for is that BFTB was aired after TTEOTM because after the traumatized experience, came the healing process for me in BFTB, and this is all I ever could have asked for, in a story and pairing that I came to really love.
This isn't my first time I have seen Xianxia Genres, as a matter of fact, I really love Xianxia genres and have seen a lot on them. I have to express that while I have seen a lot of xianxia dramas, not many can make it into my top favourite, but this drama definitely take a top spot in my favourite Chinese drama. It is also the first time where it makes me want to add this drama CP: Tian Yao and Yan Hui as my no.1 Favourite Xianxia Drama CP, because before all this, while I do love the other Xianxia Drama CP, I love them all equally as much, in different dramas, never I actually thought of putting them as no.1, but for TianHui (Tian Yao x Yan Hui), it's the first time I want to put them as my no.1, and I am officially putting them as my no.1 Favourite Chinese Xianxia Drama CP!
In terms of pairing chemistry, and this pairing as the overall, you just got to love them! They are naturally so compatible with each other. They visually look great when they are together (even the people on set has said that too), and in terms of the pairing story, it is a gradual process where their feelings for each other grown through their travels and Journeys together. But honestly, what I love about the pairing Tian Yao and Yan Hui is that, their love for each other is EQUAL. Normally in other Xianxia Drama's there will always be a side that has a deeper love for the other in comparison, but for these two, I love how the writers have written them like this, because it really made me enjoyed their relationship. Equal Love, Equal Sacrifice, Tacit Understanding, their love for each other is really strong, and it is definitely a HEALTHY relationship.
For me personally, there are definitely scenes I really love, e.g. the scene when Tian Yao sacrificed himself to save Yan Hui, it was so heart wrenching and sad, but yet it was really touching for me, I remember that night I cried so much that my eyes hurts.... But I don't regret watching that scene because it gave me the feels that I really love.
Tian Yao is really a loveable character in my eyes, his past and what happened to him and how he came to have relationship PTSD was understandable how he can't open his heart to Yan Hui at the beginning, Tong Luo Village is also the starting point to their relationship, but I really love how Yan Hui warm herself into his heart, because she showed him that how she feels about him is nothing in comparison to how Su Ying feels about him, and that Yan Hui is someone who sincerely loves him with her whole heart. Tian Yao is someone who really uses words in a very poetic way/in a more deeper meaning to convey his love across, and he's definitely better at writing it out than actually saying it, and I was honestly really touched with what he wrote in his nuptial agreement to Yan Hui. The fact that he was the one who requested that to be written on an ink that last forever just makes me love him even more for that! I also love it when he came to really accept his feelings, and chase after Yan Hui to earn back her forgiveness, I really love him during those moments, to see how much he's come and grown in terms of character developments. Tian Yao is also someone who will silently sacrifice and give things to Yan Hui without her needing to know it, that's actually one of the points I actually love about him, since he's not looking at getting anything in return, or for Yan Hui to repay him, he just wants Yan Hui to be safe and happy. He's truly a selfless person when he came to love Yan Hui on his end. He's definitely among my favourite character in this drama, not to mention the time when he's Long BaoBao is really adorable!! Before seeing those scenes, I didn't think I will come to love him as Long Baobao, but Neo(HMH) has convinced me and I love the way how he's more upfront and open with his feelings for her, which is nice to see some acting capabilities from Hou Ming Hao in playing the different characters there.
Yan Hui IMO, is one of the best Female Lead we don't get in Xianxia Drama often, she is actually not those typical Female Lead that we see often. So it is really refreshing to see. I am glad her character is written like this. At least she is Infinite times better than Li Su Su (Till the End of the Moon). For Yan Hui, I love her character growth from the beginning to the end, and when she's come to love Tian Yao, she really shows it in a very sincere way. Although she misunderstood Tian Yao for not valuing her life when he took back the HPS, so during that time, I honestly, like how her character was handled. She can't forgive Tian Yao easily despite she understood why Tian Yao have to do it, but she is actually quite reasonable with how she handled the situation. It is also thanks to this, I get to see Tian Yao putting in the effort to chase after her. I felt like this drama is really magical in a way that, we are going through the process like Yan Hui where it's a gradual process, where the writer made it believable when she opens her heart to Tian Yao to love him again. Although for me, I have forgiven Tian Yao way back then, because I understood why he did it, and I know he wouldn't have done it if there's another choice. The main thing was for Tian Yao, he really ensured that Yan Hui will not die if he take back the HPS, that's what I love about him, and why I can forgive him on my end. But ofcourse Yan Hui doesn't know what Tian Yao sacrificed, so we can't blame her.
People didn't like the Stab scene when Tian Yao took back the HPS, but for me, in terms of writing perspectives, I understood why it needed to go down that route, and why Tian Yao couldn't reveal the truth to her, not because he didn't want to, but because the writers have no intention to let him tell her the truth. If he did told her the truth, than we wouldn't have those developments we came to love in the later part of the story, so for me, I honestly did love how it was handled by the writers there.
The only thing I didn't like was how the writers not have Yan Hui said "Wo Ai Ni"(I love you) instead the writers have her saying "Wo Xihuan Ni" (I like you). If it's the beginning I can understand why she would use Xihuan, but the her in the later stages(after everything), I felt it is more meaningful if the writers should have her use 愛(ai) instead.
For me honestly when Yan Hui said 喜歡(xi huan), I take it as love already I just wish the writers would use 愛(ai) instead since when 喜歡(xi huan) is used and said it does felt like it's downgrading her feelings and that's probably why I don't like it. But to me , her feelings for Tian Yao is 愛(ai) strong enough to be put into the level of love. So in context of when Yan Hui said 喜歡(xi huan), for me I will just interpret it as 愛(ai) instead. Since we know how much she loves him.
Now with all that being said, Tian Yao and Yan Hui are the epitome of true love. Their love for each other is really admirable, how they are both devoted, loyal and will protect each other in those times, how they really portray their love and their relationship to be very equal to me. There is no Tian Yao loving Yan Hui more, or Yan Hui loving Tian Yao more in my eyes, since I see their love is EQUAL. This is what I love about them on my end. They also have a very strong bond that I come to love, and another one of my favourite moments was when they did the CP Test together, since it shows how compatible they are with each other.
The story has a theme that I really love as well:
"Will you choose to save one person" OR
"Sacrifice one person to save the world"?
The Correct Answer has been highlighted: "To save the person you love over saving the world". The key theme behind this is... If you can't save the one person you love, how can you think about saving the world? It's only when you can save that one person, then you two can work together to save the world (kinda theme). So the first and foremost is to save the one you love. It's really refreshing, and I love this revelation being the correct answer, because I am tired of characters choosing to save the world, and sacrifice the one they love...
Both Tian Yao and Yan Hui, respectively in the CP Test, they chose to save each other. This CP Test not only showed how compatible they are with each other, but how they feel about each other is the same, so I really love how that was brought forward for the viewers to see.
In terms of the story pacing, for me, it's not draggy at all, I felt like each episode really went by so fast, and I actually subscribed to Youku and watch it on Youku App on my phone (joined VIP) so I can support this drama view-counts, and also because I always look forward to a new episode. I always look forward to 8PM every weekday nights to watch this drama, and I am going to miss those times. Weekend seems so long for me, because Youku don't air it on the weekend. It's also the first time a drama will make me not like Friday because the next two days will be a weekend for me, and not new episodes, so this drama is really an eye opener to show how much I came to really love it!
For Ending side of things, I am Happy with the Ending, I got something more than what I could have asked for, since it is better than some drama's that ends with a "Last Minute Happy Ending", but for Hu Xin (Back from the Brink), they have more interactions, they actually talk, and we get a final kiss between them! So I am eternally grateful that they gave me this happy ending! Finally a happy ending between the relationship of a Dragon and a Human lover.
I personally also really love how the Final Battle is handled with the whole Yin and Yang concept, and how it shows Tian Yao and Yan Hui working together as one to defeat the final villain once and for all, there's a lot of parallel and highlight that I love, which I have talked about in this thread here: https://mydramalist.com/discussions/hu-xin/106609-ending-explanation?pid=2611095&page=1#p2611095
Zhou Ye and Hou Ming Hao, you two truly have chemistry! I really hope you can film another (and many more) modern day romance drama where you are the Main CP, and have many sweet and romantic moments, and I definitely will look forward to some (umm > w < ) Passionate Kiss scenes between you two! That's one thing Hu Xin lack for me, but if I am going to blame anyone, I will blame the directors for not knowing how to give advice for kissing scenes >.< LOL. But anyways, not saying I don't love the kiss scenes in Hu Xin, I will take what I can get, and when they did kiss, I can still fangirl on it, and when they hug each other, how can just a simple hug make me fangirl on them? This is when I know I have come to love this CP so much, and I am glad they can get their happy ending in the end.
I love the many OST's in this Drama! Definitely on my Album to listen to over and over again!
Rewatch Value: Definitely going to rewatch again!!!! <3 I can go through the journey again from the beginning to the end, and while I am not a fan of amnesia plots to be honest, because I tend to not like seeing the development starting over again and them getting to know each other again.... And the whole losing one identity that I don't like, but I got to say that Hu Xin (Back from the Brink) handled it really well. I am sure a lot of people agree to this, since I have seen it in the comments <3
I am going to miss Tian Yao and Yan Hui!! T__T I think I might just go and check out the novel on my end, because I want to see what the novel is like, I have started a few chapters in, but didn't finish it, I guess it's a good time to resume on my end.
I also want to add my note by saying, Bai Xiao Sheng, I was skeptical to like him at first, then I came to did like him since he's the matchmaker for my OTP (Tian Yao x Yan Hui) then I came to really dislike him to the point I feel like punching him because..... *well won't spoil that for you, you will see for yourself when you watch it * but by the end, he got his character development, so he's back to the character I like LOL.
With that all said, this comes the end of my review now.... So what are you waiting for?! Go watch this drama if you have not already!!! I definitely recommend this drama to everyone especially xianxia lovers!!! It is a drama you should NOT miss out!! At the end of the day, I will do my best to recommend this to you, however, whether you watch it or not, it's up to you. In my eyes if you don't watch it, you'll just miss out!!

The story itself is an okay one, but one that most of us who have watched dramas surrounding corruption and prosecution should expect with a few twists and turns that give City of Evil it's heart. As it gets towards the end it loses some of the plot and some plots holes (to me) never really get resolved or in the midst of so many plot devices, get lost in the overall story. However, the gem in this drama isn't the story line, but the heart of the cast who did a beyond amazing job with their characters. There isn't one character you won't be rooting for, you won't cry for, from main cast to supporting—and if you watch close enough, you may recognize a familiar face or two from Bad Guys. Above all, Bad Guys and City of Evil are the exact same in one area—the teamwork and camaraderie between the characters is really admirable and what I really watch for.
It's packed with great action scenes, and the music score and OSTs from the drama help set a really great mood for such a dark drama. I don't think I'll really ever rewatch this drama much as I did Bad Guys, but I overall really enjoyed watching it and suggest it for somebody who wants an action packed drama with really great acting. It dives right into the chaos and you just get to go along for the ride.
