1001 Reincarnations

This was put on my list because of Hani Kezi as I had seen her in Ultimate Note and she impressed me. I wanted to see what she'd be like in other genres. I was unfamiliar with the rest of the cast. This was a different type of reincarnation story than what I have seen and it didn't have a "Final Destination" vibe which I don't like. It was 1001 Reincarnations and in each episode to boot.

Pros: I enjoyed HK's appearance here as Ashina Yueling or YL. The ML or SY who is quite new as he just graduated from the Beijing Drama Academy a few days ago, but he was able to handle both the soft and hard aspects of his character. The martial arts were on point and that was probably my favorite portion. How many times one died or they both did started from episode one but it evolved with not just them returning to life thwarting any assassination attempts but also gave them the ability to see the future. In the end though YL I think sacrificed her life unnecessarily when the emperor was in danger as there were a zillion soldiers standing around essentially forgetting there was still an enemy in the room, the no longer supposedly working jade pendant that had brought them to life with their life blood, now needed a tear from SY for its last act that brought her back to life. I really liked the tacit understanding between the two main brothers (SY and the emperor); stupid second brother finally understood family was more important than pride in the very end. The story developed nicely; he caught feelings first but she wasn't far behind. I also like how they incorporated HK's actual national heritage into the show. HE for 3 possibly 4 couples; one with kids and one pregnant. Though I liked YL's brother and SN; I felt he was too stupid for too long and she was the brains and pants in that relationship. The costumes and the few sets were nice as was the music.

Cons: Ultimately there were really two antagonists but they weren't really giving me the vibe of pure evil. The uncle cackled and of course you know how I feel about that. I rolled my eyes and waited for his death. The general who "killed" YL was an afterthought loser and I wish they hadn't brought him in. There of course had to be a gorilla glue character (whom I ffw'd as much as possible) that was obsessed over ML but ultimately because she was poisoned, when she recovered, she forgot who he was altogether. This script had a lot of cringey aspects and the ending felt kinda rushed and all over the place. They really didn't share much about the close relationship between the emperor and SY which would have been great but I understand they had to focus on the leads and their 1001 reincarnations thanks to fate bringing them together and their pendants that were always meant to be together. I do wish YL didn't misunderstand and pout as much, that's my only gripe with her.

Would I recommend it? This is a low budget, new faces drama but it's good for when you have nothing to watch. I'm perfectly ok with it; give it a chance.

it's definitely for the one's with high attention span.

I'm a kind of person who observes a lot and never involves myself with anything, but certain POV of the shows in different social media internationally made me write my first ever review. here's my take.

I was sick of the usual maiden falls for devil, they kill each other, become victims of misunderstandings etc... stuff. finally I saw something different, their is no gods and demons...but instead it's spirits and humans, and the prejudice within themselves and between spirits and humans...a dominant female lead who knows she is powerful, and has nothing hidden to discover about herself...very refreshing.

I get that many were extremely hyped up for this show and expected something you already knew to happen but in a more extravagant, more cluttered way, but this is not your ideal xian xia, it is adaptation of a existing animation.

this show completely depicts a new side of xian xia, their is spirits, and their is humans, and they resolve their conflicts, while falling in love along the way. it's that simple.

acting wise, excellent. production wise, immaculate. story wise, very depressive, and every episode has one or the other angasty situation, which is right up my alley, personally I love tragedy in dramas. and I love to torture myself with it. among many such works you can definitely add this your list.

for those who want plot after plot, fight after fight, and want that constant rush of things happening in drama, it might not be your cup of tea.
I find this drama very precise with it's storyline and at the end all the objectives it began with was met.

coming to romance, it's heart breaking like it rips your heart slowly...
*SPOILERS....their romance begins slowly and gradually they fall deep in it. but due to Hong hong's huge responsibility she comes to a point where she has to forget her years of love. you might be thinking it's a same plot as other xian xia, but here in this drama she NEVER remembers them again...and why she chose to forget was NEVER known to yuechu...till the end he thought she gave more priority to tushan and he was insignificant to her. she NEVER said she likes him... but at last she chose to ask grief tree to bind them, and then they realise just how deep their love was...because for them both, humanity comes first than love, at the end it was their TRUE love that helped them to fight against evil.

*I'm moved by my writing again...lol.

Confusing ending

I'm the only one who was expecting an explanation about the FL and SF and the pearl at the end? SF was wounded, the princess come after saying that she fixed the pearl, she pass out next to her. And....? Thats all... It clearly didn't work, ok. But there is no talk about it. Like nothing happened. Few scenes were rushed but this one is the worst.
The whole drama was soso, entertaining in many scenes but so many were just not useful. Kind of boring at some point. Very light drama. I watched it because of this, but at some point they just mix up things too much. I wouldn't say "don't watch it" but I wouldn't recommend it either. Just watch it if you want smt light, don't try to give a meaning to everything.

"girl in debt" trope adapted to BL

In all earnestness, i have to say that this drama is a total fiasco - read embarassment. Besides the ML - nothing to see here, not even hot scenes.
By ep 4 or so, it's just recollection of the past... By ep 8, it's same story with - supposedly - different ML. It becomes absurdly repetitive: the ML died because of the villain and crazy jealousy of partner, he wakes up in a different body to share same jealous partner and same villain and same name and same life story... The time loop is motivated by the "debt" trope, like - the ML cannot escape the circumstances because he is trying to raise money for his sick mom.
I personally dont like most of the cast. Everything looks forced and rushed and unprofessional.
Very predictable too... The ML is to be appreciated post-mortem and coming back from the dead to his repenting lover and friends.
Body-swap trope is supposed to add to the wow factor, but it's not... It also becomes really soon Polichinelle's secret to its dumbest.
The trend of the year seems to be "movie in a movie" trope. I find it annoying and an attempt to ruin the little credibility these dramas already have.
There is some unwilling humour to it, like Joe being recognized because he sneezes during orgasm - LOL is this a new unconfirmed study? Also, his BF always takes him from behind because - we assume - he doesnt want to see his face, though s*x is good and packed with feelings!? I seriously want to know who wrote this stuff!!
I'd say, this lakorn is targeted to housewives while looking down on their intellectual abilities.
Waste of time.

Cinderella love - my cute sweet catchup weekly.

Light hearted and sweet story! A little short and I hope it would be longer because I wanna enjoy the sweetness more.

Production wise, love the sets even though most of the story happened in the same few sets. Shin Jae Rim's outfit towards the end was nice! Not to mention, I kinda like the butler's dress sense after work. It gave a little character to the butlers working in the Cheongdam Heaven.

Acting - there were a few stiff acting by the sides but overall the leads carried it quite well. There was a slight sense of awkwardness between the leads but I think it does add to the story quite well.

Overall, I love them!!

tropes all around

Screenwriter: How many tropes would you like?
Producer: YES.

This is a fun, tropey little love story, which has fast become one of my to-go-series if I need a pick-me-up.

What I liked:

* This drama makes heavy use of the one trope I can never get enough of: mutual pining with a side of miscommunication; while still keeping just to this side of frustrating.
* I loved watching the facial expressions of Kaneda -- he's so repressed, and when things overwhelm him, his emotions either explode out of him or he completely shuts down, which the actor portrays really well.
* Both Kaneda and Yanase try to respect the other's boundaries (or what they think the other's boundaries are). This is on one hand really nice to see: I really hate this trope of the pushy "top", who pressures his partner into things (and this is one of the things the drama does better than the oringinal manga). Yanase pulls back after that kiss in the first episode since he thinks "It's not like that", that probably Kaneda is straight and is not interested in anything sexual, he also pulls back any other kind of physical touch, since Kaneda very clearly said he does not want it.
* On the other hand, in later episodes, both believe that there are boundaries where there are none, adding to the miscommunication.
* The first half of the drama makes time for Kaneda's feelings to evolve from professional admiration to hero worship to something more balanced. At times it's a bit too subtle, but if you look at Kaneda's facial expressions and the way he talks to his Senpai, I think you can see it clearly.
* I also like these two last episodes (did I mention that I am a sucker for mutual pining?), I feel they make the relationship more balanced. Both have "leveled up" in their profession, and Kaneda does not only need any help anymore, he even has his own Kouhai! We finally get to see more of Yanase's feelings, and how he also has a hard time to express himself. Now it's him who speaks first, if a bit obliquely, of his feelings.

There are only two things that could have been better:

* Kaneda's hair really does not fit his face, a bit shorter or at least a bit darker woulg have been better.
* I would have loved to see more of how Yanase's feelings evolved, we only get to see glimpses, which is a bit unfortuante.

All in all, I love this drama, and can wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who likes a bit of mutual pining!

It Triggers Most And Emphasizes Emotions

The only reason why I signed up for this drama was because of Jin Young. I went into it with zero expectations and was pleasantly surprised.

The story was told wonderfully, in my opinion. There were bits here and there that I thought were extreme stretches and bits of fluff. I think it really captivated the evolution of most relationships, especially when it's a couple that aren't exactly compatible, but want to settle for fear of being alone or yearning for attention. I appreciate that there isn't a heavy focus on a love triangle and the story weighing heavily on who the female lead will choose.

I enjoyed the acting for what it was. I have not seen any other dramas with Bo Hyun, but for his character predominantly standing there looking confused, he played great. Go Eun seems like the perfect fit for her character, despite the lackluster nature of the Yumi.

No complaints with the soundtrack. They had a catchy song for each pivotal moment and it worked great.

Honestly, I'd watch this again. I enjoyed it upon the first watch and I wouldn't mind seeing it again to see if that opinion would change now that the awe factor has passed.

Overall, I enjoyed this drama. I think, in contrast to what a lot of the reviews touch upon, Yumi is an insecure human when it comes to relationships, and this drama justifies every aspect of that. I do agree, there was zero growth of her as a character. She doesn't acknowledge her insecurity, and expects Woong to apologize and change every little thing, but they are more common traits than most lead onto. It touches on some pretty real relationship issues with a light-hearted touch of the animated cells.

Great drama until they destroyed it with their chopped up ending

Great drama
Great actors
The drama was a great watch but the FL is all too perfectly smart it’s unrealistic.
I don’t know why Chinese writers like these choppy endings… it just spoils all the great work because it looks like they had ran out of time and money. The ending is rushed, incomplete and threw in a double tragedy for no good reasons. Kind of spoiled the drama and makes you want to watch it ever again. It’s poorly planned

SO SO GOOD, I WANTED MORE DRAMAS LIKE THIS!?! PLEASEEE

SO GOOD OMG, a classic, dramas like this never go out of style. The cast, video, songs, the ending, I would like more releases like this. They are magnificent, I spend hours watching them without even seeing the time pass. The characterization of the first-rate ghosts, very advanced for the year they were released. Super current, a classic, watch it!

Heartwarming and calming (with a well driven plot)

this show was just the most touching and elegant thing I had watched in a hot minute.

it has all of the components that make a great drama: good characters (made possible by great actors and actresses), the main plot, the backstories, romance, some drama, sadness, immense joy, and what I consider to be a great portrayal of human connection. one doesn't need to speak or hear to be able to communicate and build relationships with either people. it was such a calming and heartwarming watch that I watched it all in one day. of course, there was that moment in episode 17 that made me go "what. the. hell. now?! with only 1 more episode remaining?!" but that was that and it was fine after that.

but seriously, i loved this from beginning to end and the way it's directed and edit it just enhances the whole experience. my favorite thing about the directing is how sometimes it feels like you didn't get the full conversation between characters but it's because they build on the conversation later in the episode so they reveal more of the scenes later on and i might not have explained it all that well just now but i think it would make sense once you watch it yourself. needless to say, i loved that decision to do that.

So far so good ... entertaining and good acting

Worth watching ... I normally don't like these two leads. But in this story they have chemistry and make the story entertaining and compelling to watch. I usually watch dramas based on their merits, not idols and actors dependent.

This is a solid story. Yes, it's confusing at first ... but if you are patient to wait for the development and growth of the characters, by ep 11, you will start to understand and feel less frustrated.

Special effects in fighting scenes are not as good as The Double ... in general, the filming is just normal C Drama. However, the story makes the drama.
I feel that in these types of stories, acting and plot make a huge difference, not the fighting or special effects.

There are lots of twists and funny lines in the story, which is full of redemptions ... I love that the relationships of the characters are better in the 2nd life. When given a chance to communicate in the 2nd life, the leads do ! And that is what makes this story interesting to watch. They know what happened in the last life. They communicate their needs and they worked things out.

People ask is this story a tragedy, comedy ? I think it's a story about redemption. It's complicated but it's unfolding slowly through communication.
It's a comedy of errors because the FL is too strong-will and controlling. She turns all her relationships into tragedy. She wants to fix things for others without asking their permission or even understanding the reasons behind their actions. She is essentially a good person. But she's too controlling.

In her second life, she is willing to listen fix her flaws. I think it takes a humble person to do this ... to make things right the second time.

Ep12/13 : I am revising my rating of this story as it's repetitive. Episode 11, I thought there's finally some progress. She shows remorse for what she did to her ex-husband. In the next episode, she contradicts herself. They are just going back and forth ... for now I am going to drop it because I don't have time to watch these back-and-forth plot fillers.

Lighthearted ROM-COM with a bit of life lessons

Very well done! Started watching cuz i thought it was only gonna be funny. First two ep were kindaa cringe xD but i loved it, after that you get the feel how it's going to be and it gets better and better. Great actors great story. Everything you want and need in a kdrama in one place in 10 episodes. Probably will watch it again, now that all episodes are out. Had me all giddy and in my feels, haven't felt that for a while, whilst watching a kdrama. When you like certain type of kdramas it's easy to run out on good ones. So def RECOMMEND. You will not waste your time.

In my top 10 fav BL Dramas!

Now everyone is free to have their own opinion but something about this drama just hit me hard! To the point i woke up saying "Ah dang ah dang ah dang......" Lol if you know you know but i have always been a fan of waking up in another world dramas, books, manga, and webtoon so when i heard we where getting a BL i was excited but also unsure if they would do it well so i kept my expectations low due to some BL letdown we have all had before. 2gether cough cough. Anyways It is a cute love story, i laughed, i cried, and i was moved. Was it a masterpiece with no imperfections? Of course not but i find myself watching it over and over as if seeing an old friend or looking at a childhood photo. Now i liked the start of it but honestly the middle felt a little slow but i loved it seeing them both struggle as one wants to go home to his loving family while the other has nothing waiting for him leave a world where he has a family and a lover but in the end the one who didn't want to go home ends up being the first to leave but i love how he never stopped waiting for him. My all time favorite scene is when they are in the coffee shop and and he says "Dang" and they hug both letting out all the longing and sadness and happiness. Or when Puen relises it is Talay because of the alpaca hat. Or when Puen sings. Not to mention the special was way to cute!!!!!! I normally hate it when the couple is in a bad spot when you come back to them but the colander was so cute and the surprise kiss or hug was so squeal worthy for sure!! So the show starts out with Talay a colonist(dose the coloring for movies) is dragged along with his best friend to see her fav actor at the airport. She goes off to see him while Talay heads to the bathroom where he meets said actor Puen and gives him a gift, a cute hat with an alpaca and he explains why he chose it for him and they have a very cute moment. Back to reality Talay gets an interview for his dream job and gets it but when he goes night swimming drunk he wakes up to discover himself in another world as a boy named Tess. Heartbroken and confused he finds he is not the only one, in fact there is a whole underground filled with people from his OG world and now he must find his other half to find their way back to his world. Thinking he found someone in Tess life that fits this he starts fallowing Tun around to try and make up but one day he comes back and is like a different person and even sings a song from their OG universe. In a cool scene we see Tun is actually Puen Tess confirms and the pair team up to find a way back to their world. I wont go into to much because you should just watch it because it is worth it if you are looking for a sweet and wholesome romance with charters who leave you feeling like you made life long friends and picking up there weird lingo or the BL Trivia!!!! Kills me every time as i say the quotes along with them!!!

THE MAY WHERE IT ALL BEGAN....

******contains some spoilers******

An absolutely beautiful story filled with love, family, protests, identity and self-discovery. This moved me to tears in profound ways.

While I was aware of how it was going to end, never did I think that myung hee and hee tae's love story would move me so deeply. A love story that transcends time and space. A relentless and persevering love. A love that births self-discovery. A love that withstands the test of life. Wow!!

Knowing that the political side of this story was based on real-life events was absolutely gut-wrenching. The decisions humans make when given power (a gun) reveals what truly lies within. Kudos to the humans who didn't allow this power to turn them into blood-thirsty and power driven monsters. Reminds me of a powerful scripture in Jeremiah 17:9 - "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick, who can understand it?"

The recognition that the decision between who gets to live and who gets to die being in the hands of God takes the pressure and guilt off of humans and allows us to move on because in reality...there's only so much we can do to keep a person alive. Bad things happen, and when they do, its important to acknowledge how you feel, grieve, and then move on because time will keep flowing and life will carry on as usual without waiting for anyone. This my friend, is part of the package that comes with being human but God (the source of all comfort) is able to comfort us and help us move on while making the tragedies that have occurred work together in a meaningful way that can impact the lives of those around us. Once Hee Tae recognized this, he was able to overcome his anxiety and continue living...long enough to retrieve Myung hee's body and read the vows she never got to read to him on their wedding day

Overall, this drama is a beautifully written story with compelling characters, fantastic OST, beautiful acting and a well-written story! Please give this a watch! You wont regret it...get your teachers ready...you're in for a wild ride!
